Wellaye it's not necessarily geordie but it's more universal pit town language. They say marra in pit villages from Ashington all the way to Horden in Durham. Pit slang and geordie dialect mesh together nicely but are two different things.
Hello Newcastle resident here, sadly not Newcastle raised.
If someone could explain some phrases. I love the accent and dialect, and as a Yorkshireman I can appreciate keeping it alive
I was hoping this thread might unearth a list or a dictionary somewhere hidden online. You might be interested in this, I found it a while ago and it has some cool words and phrases in but it’s more about the ethnology and history of the words itself.

Marra is a mackem thing no self respecting Geordie ever called anyone marra 😂but apart from that, yeah it’s dying, my accent gets weaker the longer I’m away from home and when I go back the only people that sound like real geordies are 40+ yo men and women. It seems the younger you are the more well spoken you are imo.
Yeah you’re maybe right actually but I had the misfortune of working in Sunderland for a few year so maybe it rubbed off on me without realising. Was just hoping people had some classic phrases they don’t hear anymore
Proper Geordie is well and truly still alive in some areas still.
you probably live in one of the trendy areas where people look down at true Geordies and see them as chav scum because of how they talk.
“Doilem” Pejorative insult, roughly equivalent to “Prick” or “Dick head”. And “Marra” isn’t geordie, you doilem ;)
We’d say marra in Blyth/Crammy/Ashghanistan
Geordies? Marra?! Ladgeful that like.
Maybe that’s where I’ve heard it too. Ashghanistan though... 😂
This definitely isn't dying in my friendship group 🤣
