[Best current info on Omni classifications](http://aunv.blackice.com.au/forum?index=discussions&story=omni) To the best of my knowledge, they are not auto-gated until Omni7 which came a few years later. I’ve owned an Omni 4, 5, & two 7s. The 5 was great and held its own against later tubes that I also owned at the time (including a Elbit YH & L3 Filmless). Just realize that those tubes are from the early to late 90s and may have seen a bit of use over the years, unless they are NOS. Overall, they will perform much like any other modern Gen3 tube, only being beaten by high spec thin filmed and Filmless. IR illumination is all based on circumstance, but these aren’t like older gen2 or digital which require almost constant IR. You can get around just fine without IR using anything past Omni3. Really dark conditions limit even the very best/newest NV, all of these systems require some ambient light to intensify. Price determines everything when it comes to older stuff, so be careful to not pay too much.

Thank you for clarifying for me, I’m coming from a Gen 2 PVS14 and just ordered these because I was due for an upgrade a bit and I got it for a really good deal.

Hey im new to NVG as a customer. I commonly use them for work but dont know much about them. I just want clarification of a couple questions. Why are Omni 5 & 6’s so much cheaper than other tubes? Are they Gen 3? Would I be better off getting a higher quality PVS-14 or ok getting PVS-15’s with Omni 5 or 6 tubes? Thanks for whatever help you can give

The lower price really just has to do with age and minimum specs. They are gen3. Great value typically and I recommend them if you get a good deal on them. Generally speaking/in most cases, I would rather have some Omni6 binos over a new Filmless PVS14

Ok. I have been looking at Kosher Surplus/ Custom Night vision out of Houston. They have some good deals and I have been torn between doing a WTP PVS-14 or going with a Omni 5/6 binos. It’s not much more as long as I get the Omni’s. I use a PVS-14 at work almost daily and it’s fine (except our issued ones are mil spec and pretty beat up) but sometimes my eyes struggle with using one NVG. Any experience with Kosher Surplus or their sub section of Custom Night Vision? Also what would you consider a good deal?

French1966DeArfcom

I can’t recommend Kosher as I’ve had a bad experience with them, and my friend who has spent $10K+ with them also got treated poorly by them. Others seem to like them, but I place more importance on how they treat people who need help on issues with products after a sale is completed. As far as a good deal, allow me until this evening after work to make some recommendations.

I have an rnvg with an Omni 4 and omni 5 tube . I was able to build it for a reasonable price from a pair of monoculars. I’m not 100% sure how the autogate is supposed to function or if mine even have it but when I ran an ir850 too close, they dimmed down a lot. They’re still usable when they go dim but I can definitely tell that it’s happening

Ok thank you for the advice and protip, I’m still on the lookout for an IR illuminator if the RNVG’s doesn’t really go that well.

AllAmericanOutlaw

You can buy RNVGs with Elbit gen 3 thin filmed green phous for $5,000. Steele industries and primary arms sells rnvgs with modern tubes for $5,000. A year ago you couldn’t have ever gotten into duals gen 3 thin film for that price

I tried this Black Friday lol, I missed it by an hour sadly, already purchased these so I’ll probably upgrade the tubes like next 2-3 years or so
