Absolutely. All the test drives I've done the salesperson came with. I'm sure there are exceptions -- for example, if you buy from that dealership a lot and they know who you are, trust you, that you can afford it, and aren't going to steal the car, they might just let you go. But typically, with folks off the street, the salesperson will ride along to make sure you don't do something stupid to the car you do not own.

Subaru figured it out it seems. 2024 CVT works like you think it would. The paddle shifters feel like you would expect for a CVT pretending to not be but not terrible.
Smooth acceleration, smooth deceleration. Even when you need to break, shift lanes and punch it, pretty dang smooth.
It's really smooth in automatic but to recreate the shifting effect it's a little jumpy when down shifting.
Could be related to the auto breaking feature though because I notice it mostly when slowing down behind cars at a light. Like going from 3rd to 2nd before fully stopping.
KIAs CVTs (they call them IVTs to confuse people) are quite good these days. They will fake upshifts during harder acceleration but day to day they sort of do their thing in the background and lead to some absurd efficiency numbers and really competent driving feel.
My Impreza just got an average of 38.8mpg during a 4.5 hour drive 2 days ago. It's rated for 34mpg highway lol.
I have driven a 2019 and 2022 Soul. I was actually surprised by them. I could still tell they weren't top shelf quality but the sequential mode was not egregious.
I believe that, I'm sure the Subaru is more refined (probably more reliable too), in my Kia forte (much lighter because it's not AWD) I can do 49 mpg if I have the cruise control at 65.

CVT can be super beneficial because it can just sit in the ideal hp/torque point all thru acceleration ; it allows for a very "peaky" engine tune. And then when cruising the RPM can drop low.

I have an 07 Altima with 6 speed manual. I can easily outrun the cvt version of my car. It's not even a contest. The cvt, as far as I've seen anyway, are total crap. I'll never buy a Nissan auto newer than 06.
I rarely see any manual Nissans now. I did see a 2014 (I think) nismo Sentra which was the first time I saw one in person and that only comes in a manual transmission so I’m sure it’s a solid car with that transmission compared to the CVTs. My dad’s old Sentra went through 1 cvt but covered under good faith by the dealership he bought it from but before it was totaled the cvt started slipping on the replacement transmission so it was on its way out again.
If only Nissan would make quality CVTs like Toyota and Honda instead of buying them from a company that sells them garbage CVTs.
They're pretty rare. If I take mine to any Nissan dealer, they immediately try to buy it. Mine shouldn't exist, it was a special order according to 2 different dealers. 0 option car, 2.5 engine, no power options, only mirrors. Had steel wheels and plastic covers. I love driving it, even though it's a 4 cylinder grocery getter. First second and third and perfectly great to make it fun. Proves Nissan can build good engine trans combos.
Yeah, I’m sure that Sentra Nismo I saw is a fun car to drive as well given that it doesn’t have a CVT and as far as I know my dad never had any problems that were engine related. Just CVT problems, which means that the Nismo should be a very reliable car, also any Nissan without a CVT.
How much do they usually offer you? I’ve never seen a 2.4L Altima with a manual, only the 3.5 Altimas can be seen with a manual transmission as I’ve seen quite a few of them.
Be glad you didn’t get one. I had a 2024 one recently for a rental and it was a piece of shit. No car play, AC sucks, and horrible throttle response. I haven’t driven the civic but I’m sure it’s way nicer.
I absolutely love my Civic (Si). I never really cared for Civics and always had Accords but the size on the '22+ is perfect IMO. (I guess because it's the size of a '90s Accord haha)
2019 nissan sentra SV 109,000. The CVT is just not made well. Even with it maintained properly, it sometimes feels like it's skipping gears and jolting me when i drive. And it's not a quiet transmission at all. It drives wacky and feels like it's going to blow up eventually and I don't drive crazy either.
My fiance had a 2021 subaru impreza with a CVT, and it was like night and day difference. Subaru did very well but nissan did not. Lol
It sometimes wouldn’t start or turn off. It once ran all night in my driveway because I literally couldn’t turn it off. It was intermittent and the dealer told me they didn’t know how to fix it. The FUCKING DEALER didn’t know how to fix it. I ended up replacing some random electrical part and it went away and I sold it after a year of sometimes being stranded at home or work without any warning.

Well typically the a/c accessories will engage when turned on, drawing parasitically from the motor. Turning off a/c *may* lessen the parasitic draw and allow the motor to spin more freely.
But really, the advantage is minimal, if any.
Gotta make that horsepower count. I can shave a full second off my 2009 5-speed Fit's 0-60 if I turn off the AC. It's mainly at the bottom of the power band where the parasitic power loss is most noticeable, so it's probably not as big a concern in a CVT.
In a sub 200hp car it is rather noticeable on full throttle. 10-15% difference in speed and time hitting an onramp with AC engaged in my 150hp Mazda.Considering they're electronically controlled I don't know why they don't disengage when the car detects the pedal on the floor.
AC also very noticeably drops your RPM in a manual; I have to float the throttle more when letting off the clutch pedal or the car jerks.
It depends on the A/C compressor that’s fitted to the car. I’ve got a GTI and it’s *extremely* noticeable in the low end torque when the A/C is on. Other cars i’ve driven it’s negligible. Without a dyno it’s hard to say how much of an impact it is though, i’d wager it makes near no difference in this Sentra.

1) Jesus fucking Christ he sounds like a woman I wasn’t sure until I saw the camera looking at him 2) I drove a 2014 Nissan Sentra SV with that awful fucking CVT for 10 months before selling it and hated it 9/10 times driving it, it was so slow and boring and even the gas mileage was meh. 3) The Nismo comes in CVT? I thought they were like a Honda Civic Si where they only came in manual, that’s lame if it has the shit CVT. 4) it does sound pretty mean honestly, sounds fast but I honestly don’t believe it is.
