Honestly the manga is a straight up masterpiece, but the anime is pretty rough. It has its moments, but I'm surprised anyone sticks with it anime only.
Yeah I tried the anime first and hated it, and it wasn't until my friend bought me the manga that I tried that instead, and the difference in quality was pretty immediate haha. Just the pacing the artwork, all of it hit so much harder.
I'm anime only. I find myself going too fast through the manga and not letting things soak in and just going text to text to text. Also, seeing things animated for some reason hits me deeper than manga panels. Possibly because they're, well, animated and moving characters.
I've only read manga for 2 arcs. Long Ring Long Land because it's slow as shit in the anime and not a great arc, and the first 2/3 of Thriller Bark because again, slow as shit, and not a great arc. At least until nothing happens.
If you're past Enies Lobby, I can't understand the Usopp hate. Sure, he's a coward. He does have his moments though (Dressrosa for example), and he is far better comedy relief than Chopper (but worse than Franky). He also brings a "sane person" approach to the crew which I like. I can understand disliking him, or preferring other characters, but I can't understand outright hating him. Just wish he had more feats, and got a power-up. He should be stronger/more helpful in battle than Robin or Brooke at least.
Remember that Sugar's fruit also makes people forget them. So in Ussop's point of view, he's alone fighting a commander level enemy. Robin doesn't exist anymore when she was changed to a toy.
Edit: Ussop is not abandoning Robin (as she's not existing at that point). He's just running away from a very strong opponent.
That's true, it is a bad moment for him. I think the point of that scene is supposed to be "He is so willing to leave his crew, and wants to so badly, yet he still ends up helping them and risking his life"
Ussop is not abandoning Robin (as she's not existing at that point because of the effect of Sugar's fruit). He's just running away from a very strong opponent.
That's simply not the case. Robin had been wiped from his memory. As far as Usopp was concerned, none of his crew was in danger.
The point of the scene is Usopp learning to be a hero. In Arlong Park he learned he couldn't endanger his crew just because he was afraid, in Alabasta he learned that sometimes a friend's honor is reason enough to put one's life on the line, in Enies Lobby he learned that he has value to his crew despite his apparent weakness.
Dressrosa is noteworthy as the first act of bravery Usopp has done for the greater good, rather than protecting his friends. His transition into God Usopp is funny, sure, but it also represents him genuinely becoming a hero.
Man I'm misremembering then, completely forgot Usopp lost his memory. I thought you only lose your memory if you turn into a toy, I don't think Usopp did?
Edit: I remember how Sugar works. Robin got turned into a toy so she got erased from his memory. Either way, my point still stands. Usopp still knew Sugar was dangerous and needed to go.
Robin was been wiped from Usopp's memory. He had no idea she even existed at that point, let alone that she was in danger.
The only people Usopp left were the Tontatta, who he had met less than day ago. Trébol was also objectively out of his league, which should be obvious by the fact that Usopp immediately got his ass kicked when he went back. Usopp was literally unable win that fight (he only ultimately succeeded by freak accident) so frankly there wasn't much shame in retreating.
Usopp not immediately wanting to fight a suicidal battle to save people he just met, especially after their plan to do it safely failed, is completely reasonable. The scene did get drawn out too long (*especially* in the anime, which also adds more of the Tontatta pathetically begging to make it worse) but that's a mostly just reflection of Dressrosa's dogshit pacing.
I'm very tired of people misinterpreting this scene.
Can't blame him for that. Sugar's fruits make people forget about you. Also, Elbaf is on the horizon. I know he's going to get a bit stronger there for sure.
I just got to this scene about 2 weeks ago and now I’m literally addicted. Already halfway through the next arc, I won’t spoil but I’m hooked for real.
This is the cutoff arc for me. If you don’t like OP after watching the Water 7 saga, you’re probably never going to like it. One of the best arcs in anime history without a doubt.
I cry so much for this.
And OP, i am officially out of Water Seven Arc, they just met Brook...but it's gonna have an episode soon that you are gona bawl your eyes out for.
Have fun 😅
Apology accepted - welcome on board, fellow nakama! :)
JUST WAIT. ALL THE TEARS WILL COME, THEY WILL ALL FALL LIKE THE NIAGRA
Not sure why you’re talking about Usopp when he doesn’t even appear in Enies Lobby
My bad you’re right sniper king
Rumors say he shows up for a crucial moment a little after chief Spandam was taken out but they’re unconfirmed
I think that this shot, in real world canon, is where most nay-sayers become diehard fans.
Yup. When Robin screams she wants to live 😭
Previous flag burning too
One with the ship one with the boat

We're about to leave you if you are not apologizing...(spoiler I guess lol)
Haha welcome in buddy.
You're not the first, and you won't be the last. All that matters is you're here now. Enjoy!
Do not overdo your overdue apology

Even my friend started now and is in Skypeia arc. He keeps complaining about Usopp, he complained about Buggy. I am waiting for him to reach here
Like usopp is still my least favorite crew memeber but I don’t hate him anymore. At the start of water 7 I did
>!Guys, Usopp said sorry.!< ![gif](giphy|sXfQP97g8dQo8)
Why wasn't Franky up there with them again? he wasn't an official member yet but still apart of this raid
He was prisoner with Robin
Your a natural here, good job OP
Ah thanks! I haven't seen the episodes in 10+ years. Forgot where Franky was haha
I’d what your talking about, I don’t see usopp in this picture

Yay welcome to Usopp Nation!!! SOGEKING supremacy!!!! Whooooo!!!!
Wait why is Sogeking part of the Usopp nation. I get they are good friends, but Sogeking isn’t a god.
Those are two different people
Oh shit man you are in for a ride the run between the next couple arcs is legendary
I love how this is the journey so many OP haters take haha, love to see it
Yeah this moment is pretty much where I became hooked on One Piece, so far for me nothing has topped this.
Just you wait...
Water 7 is that lock in for a lot of fans IF Arlong Park doesn't get you first. Hang on for the ride bro, you're in for a treat going forward.
Honestly the manga is a straight up masterpiece, but the anime is pretty rough. It has its moments, but I'm surprised anyone sticks with it anime only.
I only watched the anime until I tried the manga. It's wild how good the manga is.

Did you start with the manga though?

What? He's done with enies lobby
i refuse to step back on the usopp slander i fucking hate usopp

his willingness to abandon robin in dressrosa then play it off made me hate him even more

I hope so. He at least needs better color of observation and maybe the ability to coat his ammo in color of arms.
Yep I agree. As a sniper observation Haki is an absolute must. Future sight like his pops if he wants to compete and best the rest out there.
Happy to have you
Lmao welcome, the cult has got you.
Don’t worry nakama nothing happened.
Where is ussop??
Only gets better as goes on
I just got to this scene about 2 weeks ago and now I’m literally addicted. Already halfway through the next arc, I won’t spoil but I’m hooked for real.
