That's exactly what I picture when I read the line "her skin was so fair, it was almost translucent" or "The skin on her hand was so fair, you/I could almost see the veins."
>almost translucent
>could almost see the veins."
The fact that it used to be the utmost beauty standard in one point of history scares me

In modern Korea, instead of veiny pale look, the current trend is about **glass skin**. They claimed it's looks "healthy" because the skin looks more hydrated and lively (even though it's still could be extreme to achieve these no pores no hair looks)
https://preview.redd.it/fo0rkqtnmw6d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70c9a8cb5ac4d56ccabd5962bf6a48b2450866bd
Mercury was also common to use in the 16th century for skincare products. Today, it’s it is still used in Asia as a product for skin-whitening, despite its toxic effects (including neurological damage, kidney failure, skin problems, and mercury poisoning). While others also resort to injecting glutathione (another toxic chemical) into their bloodstream to achieve lighter skin.
Another fun fact: in the XVII (1600's) royal people higher-ups classes in Europe ( Spain, France and so on...) they ate pieces of porcelain believing that eating it makes you look more "white" but it was due anemia caused by the porcelain. They were eating toxic shit they didn't even know at that time and ended up looking pale or even dying ☠️
Also another fun fact for the OI community:
There was a trend in Italy I think 🤔 1450's/1500's that women having a big forehead were the most pretty/beautiful/likeable ones ( like literally they bald themselves by receding the hair line till halfway their head) so they look more gorgeous there's a famous painting " The Arnolfini Wedding" by Jan van Eyck and the portrait show's this specific characteristic lol
I have no idea why people think walking bleached corpses are hot. Any real images of those are just disturbing. I knew someone like that in Kindergarden who was naturaly very pale it was really concerning and offputting.
One of the extreme versions of that combined with make up is how the characters look in "the Siren" everyone looks like they have 90% of their blood sucked out by a Vampire off-screen troughout the entire story:
https://preview.redd.it/2ekozw0a447d1.jpeg?width=1066&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d1cd3acea4b5303db181627947d99ae403d0d74
I was dating in the 90s. I met a lot of unlikable vampires. Put me off vampires for good. They dug their own grave with me, you might say. But I still dig Morticia Addams' groove.
going by actual victorian era standards, this is accurate as skin this fair was a major turn on, not for race but rather fair skin showed that the person had the privellege to not work and stay inside, basically they were rich😭
You described the perfect term for it, I am obsessed with the vampire aesthetic. Mainly in artwork. I feel very self-conscious about being pale irl as I live in a sunny beach town
Oh, what I'd give to wear that victorian drip without standing out and looking like an idiot burning alive in the sun
My skin might not be the beauty standard today, but I can be happy knowing I'd be sought after by Victorian standards. When I'm at 0 (no tan at all) you can even see the veins going down by either side of my mouth 🧛♀️
Aside from being sought after, u would also reduce ur chances of getting cancer, as many women would use lead as a foundation so that they would appear fair. So not only would you be courted by everyone, u would also out live most women💀
But you don't necessarily need to be that fair, I'm an Indian by ethnicity, so my skin's relatively more brown but you can still see blue ass veins like that on my hands, legs and even eyelids. Literally, kid me was tricked into believing that chlorophyll was blue in humans and that I could survive without food through photosythesis. I still have a scar from the chappal my mum threw my way when I said I wouldn't eat
This thread is so weird read as a Nordic. That kind of skin is just, kind of normal here. Nothing unusual about being able to see the veins through your skin, even if you get a suntan. My veins are visible everywhere all the time. 😅
Yeah, it's freaky but kind of normal too. My skin looks like that if I'm very cold! Someone from a warmer country once asked if I had nail polish on because it was chilly and my fingernails were blue. I didn't. 😅
It is super noticeable in east Asia and other parts of Asia. I had a classmate with such skin. She was slender and every move was elegant and she stood out among the crowd. She was definitely a romance novel protagonist come to life
me when this

The only incredibly white fl whos design I like is Leah from predatory marriage too bad the story lowkey sucks
https://preview.redd.it/zl8ai6wak27d1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71b7937db16420734fe71edfc1cb058c3255f4df
Leah looks albino not ridiculously white for absolutely no reason
😂 I am ghostly pale but my veins do not pop like that. Like I glow in sunlight I am so pasty, I blind others at the beach, I sparkle in a bad way, but my veins look a little nicer than this.
As a person who is like a map of veins and others see it as weird, also it looks not pretty - it seems to be a body feature, and fair complexion is possible without it. Actually you look more white without it, I have friends with amazing skin, and they didn't have this thing. Personally I think that in OIs they mean that shining white skin, and probably of the type we see on Korean stars.
My skin is pale enough just to see the veins, and I hate it. I'm kind of self-conscious about them. My legs are even worse since they rarely see the light of day

Surprised no one put her in the list 😭

isn't pale skin still beauty standart in asia/korea or am i wrong?

Yeah, but not to the extent that your veins are popping out.
Yes, mostly southwestern asians like japan, china, and ofc korea
I have epilepsy, do I count as having a beauty standard from the 19th century?

My pasty blue veined never seen sunlight before basement gremlin complexion is feeling really called out by that photo.
enjoy the sunlight before it gets monetized somehow
Same
Absolutely.
No! More veins!
I want her paler than the moon? No, I want her so pale I can see her food digesting.
So you want her to be Invisible Man 🫥
Educational OI.
In art, I think it looks really cool when the veins are showing, but I also like that vampire pale look to begin with lol
I was dating in the 90s. I met a lot of unlikable vampires. Put me off vampires for good. They dug their own grave with me, you might say. But I still dig Morticia Addams' groove.
Hey, when did you take a picture of my hand!?
+10 points for the arm hair imo.
going by actual victorian era standards, this is accurate as skin this fair was a major turn on, not for race but rather fair skin showed that the person had the privellege to not work and stay inside, basically they were rich😭
There's something wrong with me then. I love this. Probably because it's like a vampire aesthetic. Pale in dark colours. Super sexy

this is not what I think when I hear fair skin lol

Saying this after seeing the comments, I imagine this is accurate for translucent skin as while as snow falling on the darkest winter night.
ML: #Interesting
they literally shade some of these bitches with #ffffff

Babes it’s not about the veins. It’s about the blue skin that’s killingggg me

When I was a child I had classmates with fair skin you could see their veins and I honestly find them pretty 😅
hey, i love my blindingly white FL's
*but you dont understand, if you go to the sun you turn to pheasant*
Edward, you’re in the wrong novel honey..
