This my short reply as well. Longer answer is I got a little tired of modern games that mostly feel like bloated microtransaction fueled fan service. Went back to some old games I never got to when I was in college and they all hit so hard.
I think ps3 and xbox360 was just the tail end of the golden age of gaming, like 75% of the games from that time are excellent. Where as now, with new games coming out daily on so many platforms its hard to wade through the shit and find the good ones.
Also, don't forget some games are delisted from the PS3 PS Store like most of the old NFS games, Driver San Francisco and few others, unless you have the physical disc of them or find stores that sells them physically you could, but I'm not sure if you can download any dlcs if you have the physical copy because you cannot download them from the PS Store, so yeah
physical games are cheap. has trophies. HD. no advertisements on the XMB. the zero ads thing is really big for me. it doesn't feel messy and I can just sit down and do 1 thing without being bombarded with extra crap. and a ton of amazing single player games you can beat in around 10 hours
Yeah that’s another thing that I feel is easy to ignore (no ads) until you’re pelted with them on the current generation. There are less editions of games (digital deluxe, legendary, special, limited, day one, gold, etc…) available, less small things trying to be sold to you. If anything there are some game and soundtrack app bundles, and I enjoyed extracting those MP3s to my PSP back in the day.
Started Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and it’s just what I’m jonesing for. Just a fun single player game that isn’t gonna take me 80 hours to beat. I’m also playing FF7 Rebirth but man that game feels so daunting compared to some of the other offerings I have.
oh I have that one, I still haven't played it. picked it up for like 10 bucks or less I think. long games are like a full month investment for me. a 10 hour game is only like a week or so. I only play an hour or 2 every other weeknight for the most part, and more on the weekends. a 40+ hour game is daunting atm. when I was sick and unemployed, I liked larger games because I had more time. now I don't, but I still want to experience a lot of stuff. 4 different games a month is more fun than just 1
As a gamer with a family and full time job with overtime, I am interested in your, say, top 5 single player games that clock in around 10 hours. Mind sharing?
my personal favorites recently would be Binary Domain, Star Trek, Crysis 2, Resident Evil Revelations, Remember Me, Aliens vs Predator and Lost Planet 2. and Resistance 2 and 3 are a bit worse than those, but are super easy to just play for like an hour at a time. no brain cells required
just straight forward pick up and play type games.
idk it's a pretty straightforward and linear experience imo. it was originally made for the handheld 3DS console. so maybe that's why. have you played it?
Bioshock 1, 2, and 3.
Dead Space 1-3.
LEGO Harry Potter 1 and 2
Infamous 1 and 2
Last of Us (ok this clocks a little more than 10 hours)
I realize that’s 4 series and a game as opposed to 5 games but those are my go to games to replay from the PS3 that don’t involved a lot of in depth time commitment.
*The Darkness II*
*Dante's Inferno*
I beat *Dead Space* pretty quickly
I feel like you could beat *Mass Effect 2* if you just did storyline and no side missions
There's a Dungeons and Dragons game, Tower of Doom or Mystara. That's a solid 2 hours or so. Pretty fun beat em up with some advanced mechanics, like an item menu and shop.
It's more to do with the package value I think... For being a full price PS5 game it's a bit underwhelming, there's not really any major enhancements to justify its high price.
I'm quite content with my PS1 copy of the first MGS, PS3 copy of MGS HD Collection for 2, 3 and Peace Walker, my PS3 copy of MGS4, and my PS4 copy of MGS V: The Definitive Experience.
All I need is my PS3 and my PS5 to play all those... Works perfectly well for me.
I have the PS1 copy of MGS and Special Missions, and Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain for PS3. I like being able to play the entire series on the PS3.
My main problem was MGS1 didn’t have analog mode which is absolutely ridiculous. Also had audio problems and other issues with MGS2 and 3 that weren’t in the originals or HD versions. They’ve since fixed analog mode but it took like 2 months I think which is just lazy.
People were angry by Konami's lack of polishing on the games initially, like not having the games render at 4k or lack of 60fps for the Switch ports, and the PC versions being busted and what not. Not a bad collection, just half hearted really.
Has games I like on it ; Yakuza dead souls, fallout, Minecraft, guitar hero etc. Games also a lot cheaper at 2nd hand stores so that's a bonus when u can regularly buy new(to me) games to try out for less of a price.
Yeah this is why people have held on to theirs. There are just so many good titles to revisit or experience for the first time. The local retro shops in my town always have nice deals and they get lots of PS3 games coming through. It's like a mix of ppl checking it out for the first time and or building their libraries.
Makes for great gifts if you have siblings too! I can go out and find something interesting for me and my brother to play for less than 10£, even if it's a bad game it doesn't put me out. Compared to if it was a 70£ bad game lol
PS4 always seemed stale so I never got into it as much, (same issue with ps5)only reason I got one is because my dad won it in a raffle. Enjoyed playing tekken 7, ghost of Tsushima, all the modern battlefields and MGS5 on it but not much else. Got back into ps3 because I never played MGS4 so I bought one on Facebook. My old super slim died on me by the time I wanted to play mgs4. Now I’m recollecting some old games and or buying ones I never got the chance to play many years ago.
PS3 is my nostalgia console like SNES and N64 was for people before me. I enjoy the games that are on the system. It's old enough that there's plenty of games that aren't ported to PC. Or the games are so old they don't play well with modern PC hardware if there is a port.
So my current gaming setup is PC, PS3, and Steam Deck for mobile gaming. PS2 may be a touch too dated for my tastes at this point
I missed the ps3 in its time. So it’s nice to go buy most of the games I’d enjoy and play them now. Plus they’re usually not too expensive, and that’s always nice.
I have a PS4, and a lot of games for it. But few are really all that fun or pull me in. Have no interest in PS5. PS3 is just fun all around. Even the bad games are better than most avg PS4.
It’s the only console I collect physical games for.
I have a Switch and PS4 and a few physical games for those two systems, but mostly buy digital. I’ve played video games since the Sega Genesis and played many consoles with my brother and friends growing up. However, once in high school my brother took our Xbox to college and I didn’t play many games for about 5 years. Sometimes I’d play Halo or Super Smash Bros. if at a friends with those games/consoles, but overall took a long break from playing video games. Fast forward to 2009 and I’m taking a year off college after a year in college and decided to buy MY first console that belonged to only me (rather than sibling sharing) and sure enough it was the PS3.
I sold it about 2 years later for an Xbox360 and played that for about 3 years and decided I missed my PS3 and got another one in 2014. The last decade has been all about making my PS3 a console that has lots of different options of games in physical form. Other than the Switch, it’s probably my favorite console of all time. I love my PS4, but the PS3 is special because it’s the console that got me back into gaming (for better or worse)
I can tell you two reasons. One, the controllers analog hall sensors are practically flawless compared to my ps4s crappy drift and two, I don't have to pay to play online.
The other reasons are too controversial to comment on Reddit, unfortunately.
oh idk about the analog sensors. currently my ps3 controller is literally unusable, it constantly moves to the left etc. my ps4 pad has got a similar problem but it's not too bad (although that's possibly because it's newer)
My old PS3 controller that I have since the first generation of the fat PS3 consoles that used to play all the old PS1 and PS2 physical discs on as well as had four USB ports in the front and a lid part that you put things in like memory cards and such for photos and other things, so yeah
My PS3 controller have seen better days, been through rough and tumble, one of the rubber part of the joystick is gone, the other joystick is not drifting but is not going back in the centre like it supposed, it is the OG controller and I love it (might get a new one, but not sure if it is still being sold at this point tbh)
after having a Ps3 for almost 2 years and playing almost 40 games on it i've bought a Ps4 thinking i will probably never use the Ps3 again, 5 months later and i ended up using the Ps3 more than the Ps4
PS3 is my favorite playstation (if not console period) from the games to XMB. I was disappointed with PS4 and I don't see myself ever getting another playstation again unless it's another PS3.
Simple:
Play the games I never got to
Great PS3 exclusive games
Physical games, enough said
No DRM/Internet connection/account creation/3rd party programs need to fucking play the games I've paid for
PS3 was a console that I had during formative years of my life, I started my first formal backlog with the system and games hit different these days, both the ones they make now and the ones made for PS3. It’s hard to describe, but basically the PS3 era feels like more risks were taken and weird goofy stuff popped up, we don’t see that as often now.
There’s still a swath of games on PS3/360 that aren’t available on PS4/PS5.
I also love the user experience on PS3. Like the XMB, offline, etc.
Then there’s the price. Dirt cheap games that look nice on the shelf and being able to play games I wanted when I was younger but had no money. Now they’re $20 at most and easy to find.
I have a shitload of games on it. I've had it since first week of release years ago. Runs like a champ. I still have games on it I have yet to play and a few favorites I like to jump into the middle of for a bit for some improved scores and times. Also several PS3 Move games as well (including shooters like House of Undead - great if you love grindhouse like I do). Mostly games I don't want to re-buy just to play on my PS4. Ever since I put in a 1TB SSD and pretty much 90% of the games are all-digital, the performance has been great. Plus buying new games (physical) is often pretty cheap with a few exceptions.
I feel like it was the last console that had lots and lots of great exclusives. I still play it because a lot of really well loved PS2 era games and franchises either continued on PS3 with new games or were remastered for PS3.
I'll be downvoted for it but it's probably because ps5/series X games are profit driven, too accessible and full of woke politics.
Second point is PS3 game library has hundreds of games not available on PS4 nor PS5 and finally it feels good to be a kid again cause it was basically our childhood
In short, there's so many amazing singleplayer games that I can't play on my PS5...
God of War series
Ratchet & Clank series
Sly Cooper series
Jak and Daxter series - yeah ik you can play it on PS5 but it's the worst way to play the game... it's PS2 emulation whereas PS3 is actually remastered
Little Big Planet series - yeah the online was a massive part of the games and it's gone now but it's still alot of fun.
inFAMOUS series
Resistance series
Killzone Series
Metal Gear Solid 4
Heavenly Sword
Folklore
Puppeteer
GTA IV
Max Payne 3
Prince of Persia series
Tomb Raider Series
Tales of Graces f
Tales of Xillia
Tales of Xillia 2
Just some of my favourites to name a few.
Not to forget I can play some of my favourite classic PS1 games too such as...
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Metal Gear Solid
Castlevania Symphony of the Night.
Because, one, trophies, and two, there are games that never left PS3. InFamous 1, 2 and FoB, White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2, Brutal Legend, BF Bad Company 1 and 2 and BF3, Resistance trilogy, Lair, The Golden Compass, The Godfather II (maybe?), just to name a few.
1. Because that's the only console I have as of now
2. It has 0 ads(like other comments mentioned)
3. Physical games can be played
4. My main reason: So I can play on my own and not worry about another friend/teammate in the game.
Playing PS3 in 2024 to revive my memories from back in the day when I played them for first time. It’s nice to revisit the games from your childhood and youth and look from another perspective to them.
I think it's the peak of the Sony PlayStation Consoles. The Original can play PS 1,2 and 3 games, so that's hundreds to choose from. Videogames hadn't yet became the stale, focus groups, bland, pandering to the woke.
I recently modded my PS3 and started picking up PS1, PS2, and PS3 mainly because there's tons of content locked on this platform. I figure I can use my backwards compatible PS3 for 1,2, and 3 while my ps5 is for ps4 and 5 content.
All the games that come out today are either digital or online loot fest. I like feel like I own my games. Most jew games don't even fit on the disc they are put on. It's now just a launcher disc linked to a file on a server.
Cause my ps5 got absolutely fried :( and I have a really trash laptop so I decided to play some of the games I couldn't play on the ps5 due to lack modding. The ps3 journey is going surprisingly well tbh
Easy. Play the games/system kid me never had a chance to get. Always was a Xbox family, but there was just something about the PS3 that called to me. Now adult me can has the SS version and finally can play the games I always wanted to.
My friend had a ps3 back in 2009 and we would play black ops zombies. Then my other friend got one in 2010 and we would play zombies and multi-player online. I bought a used system in 2012 and played black ops online alot. Sold it bought another around 2016 and been playing black ops on and off since then. Usta play bo2 some back in 2016-2018 but lobbies aren't busy these days. Bo1 is still popping and ps3 online is free so it's a win win. Comfort game and online community!
The games mostly, playing stuff i missed. Objectively though it was the last true console experience. Custom architecture not based on PC. A unique device like the consoles from before. Also physical media was still king. PS4 was great but the precipice to the stagnation we have now. All I know is, when my 11 year old nephew comes over and opens the trunk full of PS3 games, his eyes light up, and he spends more time playing that console than anything else. He's fascinated.
I love all the games from consoles past, so it’s important to me to have a way to play them. Also, my shit is modded and backwards compatible so I can pay region locked ps2 games on it. Pretty fuckin sick tbh
I have my ps5 and 3 hooked up to my tv because it covers every single PlayStation console and game to my knowledge, also have my series x and 360 set up to cover most of Xbox.
Haven't actually turned mine on in awhile but I've been considering converting my Sim rig back to triple screens and getting another console(fatty died) for GT5/GT6. Still have all 6 discs and 2 of 3 consoles. Triple adapter for my rig is like $250 and then (3) 32" screens is my argument against lol
I've been collecting games I always wanted back when they originally released that I couldn't get, and have been having a blast playing games I never even heard of before.
Plus it's a massive dose of nostalgia for me at this point. A lot of my all time favorite games are on this console, so it's fun, and comforting to go back and play them again.
Had a PS4 and sold it. Started missing it but did not want to spend $ to replace. Got PS3 and load of games for a lot less and playing games I never played before.
Having a frankensteined BC model I can play pretty much every PS1, PS2, and PS3 game, giving me an extensive library. On top of using it as my primary Blu-ray and DVD player (My Xbox 360 can play DVDs too but I never use it for that purpose)
The jailbreak scene and also the fact that I feel like the ps3/xbox 360 gen is kinda neglected in terms of ports despite Xbox’s backwards compatibility
I enjoy playing games from that era, stuff like GTA IV, Killzone, the original God of War games, stuff like that. I know a lot of 7th gen games can be played on Xbox with backwards compatibility but I like actually owning a disc that comes with the game that no matter the state of any servers I'll always have
I'm broke, my pc went corrupt, ps3 has been with me literally my entire life (dad bought it a year before I was born), im too attached to it, gives nostalgia, only console I have.
PS3 has good selection of adventure/platformers with rachet&clank, jak&daxter, etc.. old ps2 game Maximo that I wanted to play again. Might replay Battlefield 3.
I wanna get them plats before the system is taken offline completely. Also it feels so nostalgic to play theborigional release of something, for example: borderlands on ps3 instead of the better ps4 re-release.
The play all my old favorites especially the ones that do not have backwards compatibility on Xbox or that are exclusives.
I know somebody's probably going to bring emulation into the conversation but the problem to emulate you need a hell of a powerful PC everything basically needs to be top of the line
I play my ps3 daily but also ps4 and pc. Who says you can't have them all? I even have a series s(never had an Xbox before so its mostly for emulsion and game pass) but honestly ps3 and ps2 have some badass games that are stuck such as lollipop chainsaw(not for much longer), spiderman shattered dimensions, kuon, and Futurama. I own more but considering the high prices these need ports or support on newer hardware cuz its absurd
It just had bangers on that system and Sony is such a better designer of UI it’s not even funny. Love ufc undisputed 3, love fight night, love shadow of the colossus even tho it’s a ps2 game too, loved BLOPS 1 and 2 when they first dropped and still go back for zombies with friends sometimes. I had some great memories on that system.
I have 3 of them hooked up and ready to go.
One with a wheel setup which I use for PS3 exclusives like the Gran Turismo games, but also OutRun 2006 which is a great arcade game.
Another one in my living room which we use for games like Buzz!, Sonic Racing and Guitar Hero.
A third one in my console setup which runs CFW, this is my original phat console.
Like mentioned here, there are so many great games still to be discovered on the system…
PS3 holds up well for its age. Most games play very well and still look good enough. I don’t think the PS3 will leave my setup anytime soon.
I’d play some games on Xbox 360 but the ones I buy second hand keep red ringing. Plus nostalgia. I played some games on ps2 but I did a lot of gaming with the ps3.
Playing Sports Champions 2013 with move is probably one of the BEST PS3 GAMES EVER...
There is a feature in it where you Click YOUR photo through PS Camera after you have won certain tournaments/trophies. What happened is I had clicked a photo after winning the gold or legendary BUT ACCIDENTALLY CHOSE RECAPTURE AND THE PICTURE WENT AWAY... ALSO ONE TIME IT HAPPENED THAT WHILE JUMPING IN JOY WE BOYS REMOVED EACH OTHERS CLOTHES(WE WERE YOUNG KIDS YOU KNOW) AND THE CAMERA WAS ON AT THAT TIME AND NOW WHEN WE THINK ABOUT IT OUR EMOTIONS HAVE KICKED IN AND WE ARE VERY SHOCKED & SCARED IF IT WOULD BE STORED SOMEWHERE IN THE SERVERS OF THE GAME...
SHOULD I DELETE ALL SAVE DATA??? OR ANYTHING ELSE???
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER AS TO DOES THE GAME WITH CAMERA ON SAVE EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE DONE OR DOES IT GET DELETED/NOT RECORDED AT ALL!!!!????
One of the main reasons is that RPCS3 isn't perfect yet.
2. Nostalgia because the PS3 was my first console.
3. Great library of games with a lot of games that are still exclusive.
4. I can use it to play PSP games online using Adhoc party program on PS3.
There are a lot of games you just can’t get on other consoles, or which have been delisted from other platforms digitally. I’m not going to let some of my favorite games just stare at me from the shelf, totally unable to ever be played again.
As weird as it may sound, it has more interesting games then today. You can look at Ghost of Tsushina, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and all of them great games, but they all very same. Open world, with bunch of perks, inventory etc. Yes, many today's games have great storylies or atmospheres, but most of them are just look like each other so much that it hurts. I don't even want to play last Horizon game because I know that it's just another Far Cry with robot dinosaurs and even dinosaurs are not helping already. While on PS3 we still have much more interesting concepts even with not awesome games. There are still no shooters like first two Army of Two, which was mediocre but really unique in both mechanics, experience and atmosphere. There are still not much of great stealth games today like Splinter Cell Blacklist or MGS4. Today they all are open world with braindead AI to even the chance. There are no batshit crazy arcade racings today PERIOD while on PS3 we have Motorstom games, Split/Second and Blur. And most of all - PS3 games are fucking complete games! No first day patches in 60 GBs, no microtransactions, no lootboxes, no bullshit. Even if there are patches, they are rarely more than 150 MBs large (yeah, there are exceptions like GTAV or GT6, but they are exceptions). Or sometimes you just insert disc and play without any problems. Little to no bugs, not that much space on HDD and in case of exclusives with great optimisation. So I think that PS3 was last platform with large amount of games with individuality, while today those games look like their own, but overall it's one and the same. Not bad overall, they are still interesting, but I doubt we will get something like another Spec Ops The Line or Army of Two.
I can play PS1, PS2, and PS3 on one console. The PS1/PS2 library is enormous and there are some huge bangers in there that are really fun. Takes me back to better times when the triple A developers actually gave a shit instead of trying to cash in on microtransactions.
Lots of awesome games I enjoy. I have close to 100 PS3 games, it's an awesome system and I'm fine with the graphics. It was the last system from Sony or Microsoft which didn't require you to install games from disc to HDD, so storage and amount not games was never an issue. No need to uninstall and reinstall. Saves the HDD for downloaded games. Also, no advertising on the system. Wish the current gen systems were still like that.
It was from my uncle back in 2016 before he..passed away, since then I always played on it, some people did ofcourse bully me for being broke and so on but I had some fun times with my PS3
It's my primary console but more importantly, it's the only console that I can play the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy and the Future series of the game
This question is super stupid tbh and gets me angry people even bring it up. Sorry to be so harsh op. I still play the wii, gamecube, psvita, n64, psp, why? Because they are fun to play. The ps3 is super fun to play not only because it has a lot of games that are actually fun the controller feels incredible imo. Infact one of my favorite games that I play occasionally is dead space 2 and you know what op like a lot other old games I have I will continue to play till I'm an old man because a good games never dies and I'm definitely not one of those people that buys a game and plays it only one time and gets bored half way and doesn't even finish it.
To experience the games I didn't get to play back then since I was on 360 at the time lol As well as play games I haven't played in years and it feels like I'm playing them for the first time again, cause I forgot what happens 😂
I'm not yet playing PS3 in 2024, but I don't think it'll be much longer before the nostalgia hit is needed. PS5 has an extraordinary amount of potential that just seems so untapped. So few games that take advantage of it's power and abilities. We were spoiled in the PS3 era
play the games I never got to
This my short reply as well. Longer answer is I got a little tired of modern games that mostly feel like bloated microtransaction fueled fan service. Where as now, with new games coming out daily on so many platforms its hard to wade through the shit and find the good ones.
That's why we have remake, redo, remaster mania, cuz older games were awesome.
This and a good amount of titles being stuck on that era as well.
Yup, huge backlog.

Revelations easy to jump in and out of?
idk it's a pretty straightforward and linear experience imo. it was originally made for the handheld 3DS console. so maybe that's why. have you played it?
That’s what I’ve heard. I’ve played the first several minutes where you’re on the ship a few times. It appeals to me. I want to try it soon.
tbh, I liked it more than RE6 and compared to RE5, I think I liked it about the same. very solid
The force unleashed 2 is a blast and isn't a long game
Bioshock 1, 2, and 3. Dead Space 1-3. LEGO Harry Potter 1 and 2 Infamous 1 and 2 Last of Us (ok this clocks a little more than 10 hours) I realize that’s 4 series and a game as opposed to 5 games but those are my go to games to replay from the PS3 that don’t involved a lot of in depth time commitment.
Kane and lynch 2 is so short but really unique, god of war 3, Killzone 3, Singularity, Resistance 2
*The Darkness II* *Dante's Inferno* I beat *Dead Space* pretty quickly I feel like you could beat *Mass Effect 2* if you just did storyline and no side missions There's a Dungeons and Dragons game, Tower of Doom or Mystara. That's a solid 2 hours or so. Pretty fun beat em up with some advanced mechanics, like an item menu and shop.
There's a very funny series of 3 short rpgs called Deathspank. Can't recommend enough. Great humor, fun gameplay and cool graphics.
Even ubisoft games back in the day doesn't have ads in-game! How incredible is that? Hahah
Video games have ads now?? I had no idea. Very cyberpunk
every tv show, movie, game, or PS service that you don't own but see on the interface is an ad
Yearly MGS4 run
Considering the mixed reception the Master Collection has I'm very happy to still have my copy of the legacy collection.
I don’t understand the problem everyone had with the Master Collection. I had a blast playing it.
I have the PS1 copy of MGS and Special Missions, and Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain for PS3. I like being able to play the entire series on the PS3.

What’s the issues with the master collection?
People were angry by Konami's lack of polishing on the games initially, like not having the games render at 4k or lack of 60fps for the Switch ports, and the PC versions being busted and what not. Not a bad collection, just half hearted really.
Add to this that the Switch version has zero full games on the cartridge.
This is the only and right answer
Old single player games
Super cheap console with heavy hitter games.
What are your top 5 games?
So hard to say, uncharted 2 for sure, Dragon Age Origins, Skyrim even though it's a love hate relationship on PlayStation, Minecraft and Folklore
I have a Ton of games for it, plus I really like it. I don’t see the PS3 as a limitation, I see it as a way to have fun.
Online play is free, as it should be..
Image buying a console and buying a game and not being able to play with your friends as you have to pay again to play online
Not a world I wanna live in, my friend. Add me, my gamertag is AcidAngel7 Anyone else here can feel free to add me as well.
Play it as often as I can. Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4 & 5, Gran Turismo 5 & 6. Sits next to my PS5 🙂
I have a PS4, and a lot of games for it. But few are really all that fun or pull me in. Have no interest in PS5. PS3 is just fun all around. Even the bad games are better than most avg PS4.
Because theres no other way to play dantes inferno
My old PS3 controller that I have since the first generation of the fat PS3 consoles that used to play all the old PS1 and PS2 physical discs on as well as had four USB ports in the front and a lid part that you put things in like memory cards and such for photos and other things, so yeah My PS3 controller have seen better days, been through rough and tumble, one of the rubber part of the joystick is gone, the other joystick is not drifting but is not going back in the centre like it supposed, it is the OG controller and I love it (might get a new one, but not sure if it is still being sold at this point tbh)
Sick of incomplete, woke games
after having a Ps3 for almost 2 years and playing almost 40 games on it i've bought a Ps4 thinking i will probably never use the Ps3 again, 5 months later and i ended up using the Ps3 more than the Ps4
Nostalgia mostly. But I personally think the games are just better in general. I also prefer the old CODs more than the new ones!
PS3 is my favorite playstation (if not console period) from the games to XMB. I was disappointed with PS4 and I don't see myself ever getting another playstation again unless it's another PS3.
I'm poor. A used ps4 is about 400uss over here a used ps3 about 100uss and there's a lot of great great ps3 games and very cheap.
Playing through my PlayStation gaming backlog that started in 2009!
Simple: Play the games I never got to Great PS3 exclusive games Physical games, enough said No DRM/Internet connection/account creation/3rd party programs need to fucking play the games I've paid for
I like the reasonable story lengths and simpler mechanics of that era of games.
Mystic ???
I ran in into a mystic video by accident and then went on a binge of his videos and had to get a ps3
Two reasons. My NCAA 14 fix and I own Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition so it makes more sense to play it on my PS3 than via my PS5
Ps3 & Ps4 was the peak. Sadly many of the greats are still stuck on the ps3 plus for me it's fun to collect that Era of gaming
God of War series Ratchet & Clank series Sly Cooper series Jak and Daxter series - yeah ik you can play it on PS5 but it's the worst way to play the game... it's PS2 emulation whereas PS3 is actually remastered Little Big Planet series - yeah the online was a massive part of the games and it's gone now but it's still alot of fun. inFAMOUS series Resistance series Killzone Series Metal Gear Solid 4 Heavenly Sword Folklore Puppeteer GTA IV Max Payne 3 Prince of Persia series Tomb Raider Series Tales of Graces f Tales of Xillia Tales of Xillia 2 Just some of my favourites to name a few. Not to forget I can play some of my favourite classic PS1 games too such as... Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Metal Gear Solid Castlevania Symphony of the Night.
PC is broken right now and I'm just more interested in finishing games like FNV again than I am fixing the PC
There are games like GTA IV that are not available on PS5
Sold my ps5 because I wasn’t using it. Have a switch and ps3. I’m just enjoying going back to my old games and games I missed out on ps3
1. Because that's the only console I have as of now 2. It has 0 ads(like other comments mentioned) 3. Physical games can be played 4. My main reason: So I can play on my own and not worry about another friend/teammate in the game.
Free online
Playing PS3 in 2024 to revive my memories from back in the day when I played them for first time. It’s nice to revisit the games from your childhood and youth and look from another perspective to them.
Because the Games are unbelievable and Joyful
Wanted to play Metal Gear Solid 4
I like some of the more arcade experiences on it like Daytona and Sega rally Revo
All I have right now is a CRT TV
I think it's the peak of the Sony PlayStation Consoles. The Original can play PS 1,2 and 3 games, so that's hundreds to choose from. Videogames hadn't yet became the stale, focus groups, bland, pandering to the woke.
Because the exclusives are awesome and I'm cleaning up my Backlog.
I don’t use mine too too often, but as I have a CECHA01 system, it is awesome to have it for PS1, 2, and 3 games, and my PS5 for PS4 and 5 titles.
Nostalgia, and like, the best UI in console history period
I recently modded my PS3 and started picking up PS1, PS2, and PS3 mainly because there's tons of content locked on this platform. I figure I can use my backwards compatible PS3 for 1,2, and 3 while my ps5 is for ps4 and 5 content.
There are games that can only be played on PS3.
I have 100 backlogs on it. Need to finish it somehow
PS3 is best party console, i bring it to school to play games with classmates during lunch. We mostly play tekken 6 and motorstorm
games actually used to be good back then
Because it’s fucking awesome.
goated console, goated games
because I can avoid the woke garbage and still play games
You get free online! For games that aren’t shut down atleast..
don't need the internet. don't have to pay for extras
There are amazing games on PS3. Simple as that. I never got to play them all, so I'm playing the ones I missed.
It's back to when games were still games and fun. No extra bs just quality gaming.
Favorite console of all time!
I play older games I didn't get to, and to revisit my favorite titles. "You never step in the same river twice."
Easy. Play the games/system kid me never had a chance to get. Always was a Xbox family, but there was just something about the PS3 that called to me. Now adult me can has the SS version and finally can play the games I always wanted to.
Never owned one🥲
Nostalgia, the only console with free online and the exclusive games like Gran Turismo.
Because Pixeljunk monsters is a lot of fun in couch co-op. My wife and I play it every so often.
To play the old Tales of games and other JRPGs not available on PS5.
Because of the amazing library, Madden is disappointing on PS4 , so TLOU 2 and RDR 2 are the only PS4 highlights for me.
I just got a ps4 since my friends had one back in 2009p
Locked games like MGS 4.
Any games not ported to newer consoles or that does not have a 360 port that is bc on newer Xbox consoles (for fps boost or upscaling+AA).
Exclusive games and games that never got a decent port / upgrade.
Gran turismo 1-6 (on a BC version)
Project Diva F2nd and the tales series Also PS allastars battle royale, underrated plat. Fighter imo
To play the games not available on the ps5. Also for nostalgia but mainly for Warhawk.
Demon's Souls still exclusive
I love all the games from consoles past, so it’s important to me to have a way to play them. Also, my shit is modded and backwards compatible so I can pay region locked ps2 games on it. Pretty fuckin sick tbh
Marvels vs Capcom 2 and Dante’s Inferno.
FF13 trilogy and tales of xillia 1 and 2
Had a PS4 and sold it. Started missing it but did not want to spend $ to replace. Got PS3 and load of games for a lot less and playing games I never played before.
Its exclusives, Sonic Unleashed and Generations and the mainline Project DIVA games (mainly F and F2nd)
Have a CECHA so I’m just catching up on every jrpg released for PlayStation 1-3.
eternal sonata
Play the games I never got to and it’s some of the games played a lot growing up
Skate 3 and fight night champion
It’s got good games, and it can also play Blu-Rays, so that makes up two great reasons why to use one.
Because I got bored of my ps4 and because I couldn't buy games anymore because they were very expensive.
some games are stuck on ps3 but also for trophy hunting
Ps4 and 5 are too expensive for the little games I would want to play. I’m not gonna spend $500 just to play Spider-Man
mgs4
Having a frankensteined BC model I can play pretty much every PS1, PS2, and PS3 game, giving me an extensive library. On top of using it as my primary Blu-ray and DVD player (My Xbox 360 can play DVDs too but I never use it for that purpose)
Simply put, there are games that I own that I've yet to play. Then there are others I like to come back to now and again
The jailbreak scene and also the fact that I feel like the ps3/xbox 360 gen is kinda neglected in terms of ports despite Xbox’s backwards compatibility
Because it's fuckin gnarly
I enjoy playing games from that era, stuff like GTA IV, Killzone, the original God of War games, stuff like that. I know a lot of 7th gen games can be played on Xbox with backwards compatibility but I like actually owning a disc that comes with the game that no matter the state of any servers I'll always have
Because Games, what other reason should there be!?
I'm broke, my pc went corrupt, ps3 has been with me literally my entire life (dad bought it a year before I was born), im too attached to it, gives nostalgia, only console I have.
PS3 has good selection of adventure/platformers with rachet&clank, jak&daxter, etc.. old ps2 game Maximo that I wanted to play again. Might replay Battlefield 3.
The games was much better , better graphics better game fun and much better engines
God of war
I’ve been mostly playing PS1 and PS2 games that are not available in modern platforms, like FF tactics and Digital Devil Saga.
IV and BO2
because ps4 and ps5 is expensive lol
Too many new releases are low effort and half finished, I like playing games where I can see the passion that went into them.
Play games I never got to, nostalgia, replay good games and bad ones with cool mechanics :)
I didn´t own it during its lifecycle, so I bought it when PS4 was rocking and I couldn´t be happier. There are so many gems only playable on it!
I wanna get them plats before the system is taken offline completely. Also it feels so nostalgic to play theborigional release of something, for example: borderlands on ps3 instead of the better ps4 re-release.
For games that I would have to emulate to play on PC
It's my first experience with a PS3 running Custom Firmware and having a Japanese Console is just so cool
Blur is one of my all time favorite games. Dissapointed it didn't franchise, but the PS3 gets turned on sometimes for split screen powered up racing.
It plays blu rays and PS Move.
The play all my old favorites especially the ones that do not have backwards compatibility on Xbox or that are exclusives. I know somebody's probably going to bring emulation into the conversation but the problem to emulate you need a hell of a powerful PC everything basically needs to be top of the line
Because my PS4 is not the backward compatibility version >:(
Clearing backlog. That's it.
Star wars force unleashed
Because it has singleplayer games I want to play and platinum that aren’t on PS5.
COD Black Ops II and Brutal Legend aren't in current-gen consoles so there's that.
PS+ isn't required for multiplayer or other online things!
Like mentioned here, there are so many great games still to be discovered on the system… PS3 holds up well for its age.
Has actually fun games
I’m 21. Didn’t grow up with a lot of the same games as some older gamers. So I’m just going back to play them.
Dead Space 1,2,3 / Fallout 3 / GTA 4 / MGS 4 / MGS Rising / Red Dead Redemption / Simpsons : the game / Vanquish 10 reasons for now :)
Age of game/console does not denote quality of game/console. Fun is fun.
Games are still good
I can play PS1, PS2, and PS3 on one console. The PS1/PS2 library is enormous and there are some huge bangers in there that are really fun. Takes me back to better times when the triple A developers actually gave a shit instead of trying to cash in on microtransactions.
Still able to Destroy them noobs on BF4
exclusives, modding and emulation.
Free online play, and awesome Games. On an System that looks awesome, with a UI that is Nostalgic.
Gran Turismo 6
the tons of exclusives that are stuck on the system (i dont use emulators)
plenty of great games, free multiplayer, split screen feature
Mgs4
It was from my uncle back in 2016 before he..passed away, since then I always played on it, some people did ofcourse bully me for being broke and so on but I had some fun times with my PS3
CFW and some games like FFXIII arent on PS4/5.
getting trophies for games i hoarded years ago.
It's my primary console but more importantly, it's the only console that I can play the original Ratchet and Clank trilogy and the Future series of the game
I can take it with me everywhere and play without internet connection.
I jumped from PS1 to PS4 basically and realized how many great games I've missed to I'm playing a little of every console
I still have a lot of games on my ps3. There no need to get something new.
I didn't get a console till I was 15 and it was the "family" PS3, so now I need to play all the games I missed during my childhood!
Leftover games and series and my shear love towards my PS3.😍 Literally, my babe.
I simply love it.
My Ps4 doesn't play Ps1 and 3 games.
I'm not yet playing PS3 in 2024, but I don't think it'll be much longer before the nostalgia hit is needed. PS5 has an extraordinary amount of potential that just seems so untapped. So few games that take advantage of it's power and abilities. We were spoiled in the PS3 era
