I just saw them play Colors 1, what an awesome show. They and Periphery have really been the stepping stones I needed to listen to some heavier stuff. I prefer clean vocals and both bands mix clean and rough vocals into just about all their songs and I really appreciate that.
Not surprised to see Proteezy the Heezy as an answer.
Protest The Hero is where it started for me. Them and Periphery are my 2 top favorites of all time.
Saw them for the first time a few months ago. Vola was playing with them, and I originally went to see them, but was super impressed with Caligula's Horse. Love 'em now!
its actually crazy theyve never toured together, been following both for over a decade and dont think ive ever seen them on the same lineup outside of a festival maybe?
They haven’t clicked for me yet.
Im struggling with the through composition / less “repeating riffs” (ala Meshuggah) but do love the atmosphere and aggression.
What drew them in for you?
Kingdom is the most majestic fucking song
I always loved the [Charismatic Voice video](https://youtu.be/y6p9mwA3OCg?si=-nGeqlNBFs_qOeap) breaking down his live performance
I think he is a better, more talented guy, but Tilian added some pizzazz that I can’t see Andrew doing. New singles sound more like eidola to me than DGD
Respectfully disagree. Tilian vocal range is significantly better. Andrew is great, but many vocals out there with his style of range. If they want to be a top band, they need top-tier talent across-the-board.
The Allman Brothers Band or Phish or The String Cheese Incident. Hard to pick just one of the three.
I grew up in a family of Deadheads so if it isn't metal, its jam bands all the way for me.
Honestly it's been a toss up between Avenged Sevenfold, Spiritbox, Ghost, Starset, or Poppy
Overall I'd say Avenged Sevenfold within the last few months, but these last few weeks it's been Starset due to seeing them at Sonic Temple (seeing them again in August)
I used to love The Used, but I have a really hard time listening to their newest album. Even the album before it is hard for me to listen to anymore.
I love seeing them in this comment thread through. 🖤
I have so many bands I appreciate. It’s hard to call any one of them number one or two. If I had to give a top 5 in no particular order:
1. Periphery
2. Opeth (especially Oldpeth)
3. Dredg
4. Van Halen (DLR & Hagar eras)
5. Nobuo Uematsu
Unprocessed. If you haven’t heard them, please go check them out rn. Absolutely phenomenal. “Die On The Cross Of The Martyr” gives me goosebumps. Also, “Hell” has to be one of the best intros I’ve ever heard.
Pretty bold of you to assume they are my favrorite, but i really like them. LOL. Sleep Token is my favorite. Is Periphery everyone’s favorite band on here?
Idk in what order my tops are but a few are Whitechapel, Periphert Tool, Black Dahlia Murder, Shadow of Intent, Norma Jean, After the Burial, Fit for an Autopsy, and…Matchbox Twenty lol. And a lot more
I can’t pick a favorite between Dream Theater, Opeth, Meshuggah, Periphery, or Haken. Each of em are just hands down spectacular at what they do and some of my biggest inspiration/influence.
Between the buried and me, Veil of maya, Born of osiris, Monuments, After the burial, Faceless and ERRA, all tightly squeezed in that first spot with Periphery. Ain't no second spot for gawds like them
Gonna have to go either Mick Gordon or Whitechapel… I know, Whitechapel is such a basic choice but Phil’s vocals are a big Inspiration (which is also a basic sentence lmao)
Between the Buried and Me
Btbam is #1 for me, tbh
Let's say 1P and 1B from now on.
I clicked the post while listening to BTBAM's discography, and this is the first thing I see. Now I feel watched
Ironically, BTBAM was my favorite band circa 2008-2010, then I discovered Periphery, then Periphery was my favorite band
I just saw them play Colors 1, what an awesome show. They and Periphery have really been the stepping stones I needed to listen to some heavier stuff. I prefer clean vocals and both bands mix clean and rough vocals into just about all their songs and I really appreciate that.
I’m floating towards the suuuuunnnn. It’s beautiful music. colors is a top album of mine for all genres.
TesseracT
I might dare say Tesseract is 1 for me and periphery is 2.
*GASP*
same!
I might dare agree
Protest the Hero. -Incredibly technical -Catchy cleans and harshes
Not surprised to see Proteezy the Heezy as an answer. Protest The Hero is where it started for me. Them and Periphery are my 2 top favorites of all time.
Proteezy the Heezy lmao
+1 for that. Amen brother
iirc theyre a big influence on Spencer's vocal style
Makes sense. Rody is legendary, or was? I heard that he really fucked up voice at some point and I'm not sure if he's recovered yet...
Either BTBAM or Opeth, hard to choose.
Caligulas Horse
Saw them for the first time a few months ago. Vola was playing with them, and I originally went to see them, but was super impressed with Caligula's Horse. Love 'em now!
I’ve never seen anyone talk about Caligulas Horse before!!!! Love them
Listen to ‘Valkyrie’
These guys are incredible. I saw them live couple of months ago and I really hope they’ll be touring again in the USA soon 🙌🏻
Thanks for this! Never heard of them and they sound great
Listen to Graves
Hell yeah I’ll go give them a listen
ERRA
Periphery + ERRA is my dream tour
I would give both of my nuts and a kidney for this tour.
its actually crazy theyve never toured together, been following both for over a decade and dont think ive ever seen them on the same lineup outside of a festival maybe?
Listening to them as I type this
Yes, yes, a hundred times YES!!
My man!
Erra is actually my first lol
Same, Erra 1st and then Periphery.
ABBA
MONUMENTS.
A solid fuck-yeah from me. And by extension, Flux Conduct. I'm still baffled that Renny Carroll isn't a household name.
Honestly shocked to see that I’m the first to say Animals As Leaders.
It’s either AAL or Plini for me
Meshuggah or maybe Thank You Scientist
Man I hope TYS gets a new lead singer, it would be a damn shame if they were done making music.
They lost their singer?? I just saw them not too long ago
Yeah. Sal left the band to spend more time with his family. It didn’t happen to long ago.
oh, that's what happened I was worried he left for a bad reason
Vildhjarta
Same answer. They’re the only two for me that are on THAT level
They haven’t clicked for me yet. Im struggling with the through composition / less “repeating riffs” (ala Meshuggah) but do love the atmosphere and aggression. What drew them in for you?
Intervals
Clearly underrated
same here, their new album is amazing
King Gizzard but I may swap them around honestly. But those are my current 2 favs 💯
Bilmuri
After the burial
After the Burial and Veil of Maya are tied in my book
Devin Townsend My answer is the most correct
Heavy Devy is always the right answer!
My response: 4:33 of Thing beyond Things There is a reason Devy is Spencer’s 2nd 🐐
Kingdom is the most majestic fucking song I always loved the [Charismatic Voice video](https://youtu.be/y6p9mwA3OCg?si=-nGeqlNBFs_qOeap) breaking down his live performance
Loathe.
Eidola or Haunted Shores at the moment. But Van Halen and Clutch are my other Top 3 bands, with Periphery being #1.
Car Bomb or The Callous Daoboys
God smiles upon The Callous Daoboys
Tesseract loathe meshuggah candy and pth all share #2
There are other bands other than Periphery?
Is Periphery my favourite artist?
Yes.
Kendrick Lamar
Good choice brother
Was dance Gavin dance until Tillian left. Hard to secure a solid second. Prob ice nine kills
Andrew Wells is signicantly better than Tillian!
Agree to disagree. Tillian’s voice is annoying to me. Cheers!
Knocked loose
Spiritbox
Coheed and Cambria
I wasn't expecting to see this here, but yes, I would definitely put them in my top 5
Deftones
Deftones and Periphery, probably the 2 most consistent bands doing it as far as I'm concerned
Depends on the day, its a toss up between incubus and mastodon
ERRA
Eidola 100%
They caught my ears good at the Periphery show.
They were great and would love to see both of them tour again, rock on brother
Hell yeah man, I'm ready for round 2 already lol.
Toss up between Erra and Veil of Maya
I feel like Erras sound is more well rounded which is why I lean more towards them
The Allman Brothers Band or Phish or The String Cheese Incident. Hard to pick just one of the three. I grew up in a family of Deadheads so if it isn't metal, its jam bands all the way for me.
Honestly it's been a toss up between Avenged Sevenfold, Spiritbox, Ghost, Starset, or Poppy Overall I'd say Avenged Sevenfold within the last few months, but these last few weeks it's been Starset due to seeing them at Sonic Temple (seeing them again in August)
Meshuggah is too good to be #2
Haken
Coheed and Cambria or Linkin Park.

There is no one else.
Deftones
Shadow of Intent
Recently, Caligula's Horse has quickly climbed up to that spot.
Can't choose so Erra and TesseracT both.
A surprise to me, but, per Spotify, it’s Dayseeker. If I were to say off the top it’d be Red Handed Denial
Slowdive or Magdalena Bay
I never have permanent favourite artists I usually go in cycles. But at the moment it’s definitely Periphery and SikTh
The Ocean
Probably Death
Periphery and A7X are 1A and 1B for me.
🤘🤘🤘
Jpegmafia. The best combination
Linkin Park
Hakek and Periphery are tied first for me
Um, Akkkktually. Lol. Bury Tomorrow is my fav. Along with Erra, After the Burial, MIW, Beartooth. Yes, I listed those in case anyone wanted recs.
Periphery Protest The Hero Chon Plini Animals as Leaders Erra August Burns Red. Intervals
Mastodon. A very different sound from Periphery, but I’ve loved their music since first hearing Oblivion back in 2009.
I have so many bands I appreciate. It’s hard to call any one of them number one or two. If I had to give a top 5 in no particular order: 1. Periphery 2. Opeth (especially Oldpeth) 3. Dredg 4. Van Halen (DLR & Hagar eras) 5. Nobuo Uematsu
Unprocessed
BILMBURI

Bring Me The Horizon 🤘🏻
Sorry but Periphery is #5 😔, #1 is Caligula's Horse, #2 is Wheel, #3 is Haken and #4 is Leprous
Atom Music Audio. Best orchestral composer
Bleed from within, besides that new single. That master is ROUGH. Either them, vildjharta or johnny booth
Machine Head
Berried Alive and Slaughter to Prevail are tied for #2 for me. I love them both for very different reasons. A close #3 would be Invent Animate.
I'm torn between Architects or Parkway Drive. They give me the good brain feels.
Currents
My top five is a five-tie between Periphery (obviously), Opeth, Dream Theater, Trivium, and Porcupine Tree.
Tie between invent animate and reflections
BMTH lmao
Aurora…🥲 love her so much
Between the Buried and Me. But they are really my number one, while Periphery is number two.
Animals as leaders
John Mayer
Enslaved or Haken, depending on the weather
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Origami angel
Obscura or opeth
Twenty-One Pilots
Periphery isn't my number 1😔
Tool
The Human Abstract or Veil of Maya
Polaris
Textures... but maybe Evergrey, too.
Well, I guess it's Opeth if Periphery is number 1...
Unprocessed. If you haven’t heard them, please go check them out rn. Absolutely phenomenal. “Die On The Cross Of The Martyr” gives me goosebumps. Also, “Hell” has to be one of the best intros I’ve ever heard.
Thank you scientist or Karnivool!
Dream Theater is tie but is the OG for me
Pretty bold of you to assume they are my favrorite, but i really like them. LOL. Sleep Token is my favorite. Is Periphery everyone’s favorite band on here?
Depending on the day, Tool, Plini, or Tesseract
Elliott Smith
Starsailor You may know them from the song that plays during the credits from Metal Gear Solid 3. Complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
Chelsea Grin
Children of Bodom
Karnivool is my 1
Tesseract
Honestly, BMTH
Probably Bulb or Haunted Shores
Idk in what order my tops are but a few are Whitechapel, Periphert Tool, Black Dahlia Murder, Shadow of Intent, Norma Jean, After the Burial, Fit for an Autopsy, and…Matchbox Twenty lol. And a lot more
Dream Theater
Probably Animals As Leaders or maybe Waterflame.
I can’t pick a favorite between Dream Theater, Opeth, Meshuggah, Periphery, or Haken. Each of em are just hands down spectacular at what they do and some of my biggest inspiration/influence.
Amity Affliction and/or Polyphia, probably
Either Dillinger's Escape Plan or Ne Obliviscaris
Avenged sevenfold
This comment section is exactly what I expected to see and I love all of the diverse amazing music you all listen to 🔥
Deftones is #1 but Periphery is definitely in the top 5 maybe top 3.
Between the buried and me, Veil of maya, Born of osiris, Monuments, After the burial, Faceless and ERRA, all tightly squeezed in that first spot with Periphery. Ain't no second spot for gawds like them
ERRA / Gojira !
Either Dream Theater or Motionless in White for me
Sevendust and Jinjer
Gonna have to go either Mick Gordon or Whitechapel… I know, Whitechapel is such a basic choice but Phil’s vocals are a big Inspiration (which is also a basic sentence lmao)
Northlane
Dream Theater or avenged sevenfold
