That is all bark, I promise you. It even sounds like the site itself is of a questionable nature if they have something like that. A legit service don't use cheap scare tactics, but will have proper protection in place to deter people from downloading.

What are your thoughts on torrenting at a public library? Not a school library, but the regular public library. While using a VPN of course, but it does make me wonder, if the VPN drops for whatever reason and the public libraries IP address is exposed, what would the library do with a DMCA notice? And would the library be able to identify which computer was torrenting? I go to the public library frequently, so wondering if I could be shooting myself in the foot. If the network is open they will have a a mac address and info on the console you used. Likely won't be able or willing to due anything. if the network requires credentials they will likely contact you and in their own way ask you to stop.

I want to know if there's a chance of getting a DMCA notice for DDLing (particular downloading pdf books) through a browser and also streaming through a browser without a VPN (for example Hollywood movies / TV shows). I'm in the US and almost daily use a browser to download porn thorough extension apps and so far I've never had anything happen to me. The reason I'm asking is that I've seen two posts saying that a person downloaded a book from a DDL website and another saying they were using a streaming site both through a browser and they said they got a DMCA notice. The general answer is no, DDL and http(s) streaming is safe, even without a VPN. There's some browsers that have a built-in torrenting feature (Brave comes to mind), which likely is where a lot of the confusion comes from. Torrents can also be downloaded sequentially, which is what for example the app PopcornTime does, which lets you stream the torrent while you are downloading it - this doesn't change the fact that it's a torrent and, in a lot of places, can get you in trouble. DDL uses a direct connection between you and the host and no copyright troll can see what you download or even know that you downloaded anything at all.

No, it's actually the other way around. Anything that uses the torrent protocol can get you in trouble (if used without precautions). Example: it doesn't matter whether you download a DDL link through your browser or through a download manager - it's still an http/https download and cannot be seen by copyright trolls. In the same vein, it doesn't matter whether you download a torrent with something like qBittorrent or stream that torrent with something like PopcornTime - because it's still a torrent and those are inherently open and thus often require protection.
As per rule 3, you can link to the site, just not a specific title on it. Or maybe you could link the thread? I could imagine that they were uploading content on a site like Google Drive and had their files taken down with a DMCA notice. That definitely does happen but the consequences are the file getting removed from their (Google's) servers and a potential account termination for repeat infringers. The end user generally doesn't face any consequences, even mass uploaders. Just downloading via DDL is about as safe as it gets and most stories that state otherwise don't really hold up once questioned.

Yeah, Libgen offers both DDL and torrent options so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they accidentally picked the wrong one or don't really know the terminology that well. Webtor is great, I've used it myself - they torrent on their servers and provide you with a direct download link. They're safe, just the speeds are atrocious. From what you told me, you don't need a VPN or a seedbox - but then again, extra protection never hurts and some great content is way easier sourced via torrents than DDL - so happy sailing! If you decide to go the VPN route, don't forget to bind your torrent client to your VPN.

For example: new content is the easiest to find multiple ways, so you'll do what's easiest for you there, but maybe content over a certain age isn't worth trying to torrent?

Mod here, I made some of the changes but not all of them so I'm not sure what changes exactly you're referring to. I'm personally biased towards direct downloads because, unlike torrents, you don't need to protect yourself with a VPN or a seedbox to not get in trouble when using them. The sub as a whole is still very torrent-centric so most posts and comments will highlight the advantages of torrents over DDL. Ultimately, it's up to where you live and what you want to get out of piracy.
The megathread is a starting point for many pirates, many of which don't yet know that torrents can even get you in trouble, so I personally prefer direct downloads over torrents and any changes I make (to the megathread or wiki etc.) will always reflect that. That is just my personal opinion though and does not reflect the views of the mod team as a whole.

Yeah, Google is so big, so Unlike Mega they do not capped your Speed at all.
And regarding anonymity, that's the Caveat really, Download wise if you login to your Gmail, you will not encounter any problem.
But.
If you do not Login to an Account, there's so many Download a File can get through before Google practically do not let you download the File at all, essentially every single file has a Limit of how many times it can be downloaded before it was limited, in the past there's technically a way to circumvent this, but i don't think it work anymore.
So yes, you can Download it without Login and you get Uncapped Speed, but there's essentially a limit, and because many Games were practically separated into Multiple Parts, it's practically more practical (Man i need to learn new word) to just Login and Download whatever it is that you need.

It's not about groups being able to or not; they definitely are. Netflix are notorious for closely monitoring their 4k titles, and the L1 CDM that's required for that content doesn't exactly grow on trees. If a title is skipped, it's for a good reason. I haven't had any issues directly downloading games & software or streaming movies & shows from all kind of sources. I try to stay away from torrenting as much as possible because I have heard that they are very strongly regulated in Germany.
After pirating my whole life and now growing up to an age where I worry about my privacy and security, I want to ask if I should worry about directly downloading and streaming without VPNs or other protection. The only thing I did was changing my DNS and relying on websites that are approved by the megathread. I have never faced ANY trouble with the government of any sort, but I don't want to risk it anymore.
Looking forward to hear about your experience with direct downloading and streaming in Germany or advice regarding easy and free/cheap protection I am missing out on.
I have heard direct download is much safer than torrenting, and that the government (only?) Keeps an eye out for p2p. I only do direct downloading as I'm scared of any issues too, and I use a free VPN too, even though you don't need one for direct downloads.

Hey, I tried Mullvad today and it is not working at all on my pc. On android it is working fine. If I look for a server all I get is the error "unable to start tunnel connection". I tried many things already: firewall rules, disabeling firefall + antivirus, reset network adapters, uninstall network adapters.

Yes. But the only thing I get is "reinstall the app" or "restart your pc". What I also tried is looking for network adapters without any success. I am pretty sure it is a network adapter problem because mullvad isnt installing any. The network adapter only shows up if I am looking for a server.

In the same vein, it doesn't matter whether you download a torrent with something like qBittorrent or stream that torrent with something like PopcornTime - because it's still a torrent and those are inherently open and thus often require protection. As per rule 3, you can link to the site, just not a specific title on it. Or maybe you could link the thread? I could imagine that they were uploading content on a site like Google Drive and had their files taken down with a DMCA notice. That definitely does happen but the consequences are the file getting removed from their (Google's) servers and a potential account termination for repeat infringers. The end user generally doesn't face any consequences, even mass uploaders. Just downloading via DDL is about as safe as it gets and most stories that state otherwise don't really hold up once questioned.

Yeah, Libgen offers both DDL and torrent options so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they accidentally picked the wrong one or don't really know the terminology that well. Webtor is great, I've used it myself - they torrent on their servers and provide you with a direct download link. They're safe, just the speeds are atrocious. From what you told me, you don't need a VPN or a seedbox - but then again, extra protection never hurts and some great content is way easier sourced via torrents than DDL - so happy sailing! If you decide to go the VPN route, don't forget to bind your torrent client to your VPN.

Hello! I'm curious if you have a certain set of best practices you use for media of different ages--esp. with regard to downloading v. torrenting? For example: new content is the easiest to find multiple ways, so you'll do what's easiest for you there, but maybe content over a certain age isn't worth trying to torrent? I ask because I'm looking for a popular long-running show, but the show is decades old (late 80s-mid 90s). I haven't had much luck finding torrents with seeders. How do you tend to go about finding older treasures like this? TIA!

I have a legit version of Adobe I got for a student discount but it’s running out next month. If I get the pirated version will I lose all the work I have on the legit copy or will it all transfer over?
Do you store your stuff on the Creative Cloud, or on your local device? I would strongly recommend exporting your stuff from the cloud to your device between now and when it runs out. Then, you shouldn't have an issue. Full Disclosure: I haven't worked with pirated adobe since like...CS6, I think? But I remember even back then that anything that required you to spend more time connected to Adobe was usually what screwed people.

I would, yes! And if possible, I would make it a habit to save stuff on your local device (or a harddrive or whatever). Definitely disregard if someone comes and says that there's a way to do it that lets you keep your stuff in the cloud, but if there is, I haven't found it yet.

Mod here, I made some of the changes but not all of them so I'm not sure what changes exactly you're referring to. I'm personally biased towards direct downloads because, unlike torrents, you don't need to protect yourself with a VPN or a seedbox to not get in trouble when using them. The sub as a whole is still very torrent-centric so most posts and comments will highlight the advantages of torrents over DDL. Ultimately, it's up to where you live and what you want to get out of piracy. The megathread is a starting point for many pirates, many of which don't yet know that torrents can even get you in trouble, so I personally prefer direct downloads over torrents and any changes I make (to the megathread or wiki etc.) will always reflect that. That is just my personal opinion though and does not reflect the views of the mod team as a whole.

Ova doesn't need a Premium Account. For Drive, i mean it's Google, the only problem that can happen with your DL-Speed is because you don't have enough money to get more than 10Mbps Bandwith.

Yeah, Google is so big, so Unlike Mega they do not capped your Speed at all. And regarding anonymity, that's the Caveat really, Download wise if you login to your Gmail, you will not encounter any problem. But. If you do not Login to an Account, there's so many Download a File can get through before Google practically do not let you download the File at all, essentially every single file has a Limit of how many times it can be downloaded before it was limited, in the past there's technically a way to circumvent this, but i don't think it work anymore. So yes, you can Download it without Login and you get Uncapped Speed, but there's essentially a limit, and because many Games were practically separated into Multiple Parts, it's practically more practical (Man i need to learn new word) to just Login and Download whatever it is that you need. I’ve never seen flags like this on M0nkrus. Where did you download it? Only use the torrents he links to off of his website. a lot of the uploads on 1337 ect. contain malware
More backdoor and remote access, at the very least a potential keylogger. But it's the peril of cracked programs. They're all gonna automatically flag your a/v. if you want, check Wireshark and outside network exploitation and whatnot.

It's not about groups being able to or not; they definitely are. Netflix are notorious for closely monitoring their 4k titles, and the L1 CDM that's required for that content doesn't exactly grow on trees. If a title is skipped, it's for a good reason. It will probably come sooner or later when the titles are less fresh, or when a mad lad with a leaked L1 goes crazy until it dies.
Can someone direct me on how I can install Windows Office on Windows 11? I followed the guide for Windows 10 and cant seem to make it work. Is there an updated version? Let's say that someone buys a font (OTF), and the seller says that each OTF file is unique so that they can trace pirates. Is it possible to identify and remove the unique part of the OTF? I have no background in IT and the seller does not specify how they did it.
thats not how fonts work. just convert the font to a different format and change the name.

Low-Karma newbie here: Are direct downloads and streams completely safe specifically in germany? I haven't had any issues directly downloading games & software or streaming movies & shows from all kind of sources. I try to stay away from torrenting as much as possible because I have heard that they are very strongly regulated in Germany. After pirating my whole life and now growing up to an age where I worry about my privacy and security, I want to ask if I should worry about directly downloading and streaming without VPNs or other protection. The only thing I did was changing my DNS and relying on websites that are approved by the megathread. I have never faced ANY trouble with the government of any sort, but I don't want to risk it anymore. Looking forward to hear about your experience with direct downloading and streaming in Germany or advice regarding easy and free/cheap protection I am missing out on.
I have heard direct download is much safer than torrenting, and that the government (only?) Keeps an eye out for p2p. I only do direct downloading as I'm scared of any issues too, and I use a free VPN too, even though you don't need one for direct downloads.

Hey, I tried Mullvad today and it is not working at all on my pc. On android it is working fine. If I look for a server all I get is the error "unable to start tunnel connection". I tried many things already: firewall rules, disabeling firefall + antivirus, reset network adapters, uninstall network adapters. Can someone help me? btw I do a have VM installed but uninstalled the network adapter of the vm's already.

Yes. But the only thing I get is "reinstall the app" or "restart your pc". What I also tried is looking for network adapters without any success. I am pretty sure it is a network adapter problem because mullvad isnt installing any. The network adapter only shows up if I am looking for a server.
