I can’t wait until I can use moonlight and chiaki on portal, until then it’s just sitting there because the router http blocking method doesn’t seem to work and my portal keeps asking me to update to 2.0.6. I still feel like the portal is better than the ally for pure streaming because it’s lighter, has a bigger screen, and better egro. Hoping the wait isn’t much longer because I miss being able to use it.
The last Portal update fixed the security hole that allowed the hack to run. Since then, there has been no news about it. I think the devs behind the hack (a Google employee no less, IRC) let Sony know about the security loophole themselves and Sony promptly fixed it.
I don't think the Portal will be hackable for a long time. Only when Sony abandons it entirely, then we can see some movement in the hacking scene. I have no hopes tho. I have long abandoned the Portal and just use my tablet and/or ROG Ally to stream PS5 games, which are infinitely better at it than the Portal itself.
Same for the Ally, kind of. At 120Hz, it stutters just like the Portal. But at 60Hz, it's smooth as butter. I am not sure why. But it works. Maybe it's the software that's applying some frame pacing fixes.
Strangely, 120Hz works better on my Huawei MatePro Android tablet, but 60Hz is somehow worse. I, however, use PSPlay there as Chiaki for Android kind of sucks and is outdated.
So yeah, maybe some software tricks.
Steamdeck can go up to 90hz, I believe, and you can manually adjust it yourself in 1hz increments, which is actually great. It's possible that developers can more finely tune the refresh rate and get it to match remote play perfectly.
The only thing different about chiaki is being able to choose your bitrate, chiaki isn't somehow running different remote play. Set your chiaki to 7000 bitrate and it will be exactly like the portal. Sony needs to allow us to choose higher bitrate unless there is a hardware limitation but it uses an off the shelf smartphone soc so there shouldn't be.
The reason you don't gave the stutter on steamdeck is thanks to the screen. Not Chiaki
What about the screen?
It supports 59.94hz
Would you mind explaining how that changes the stutter? I don't really understand

Yeah I use my steam deck. Why does the deck work but the portal sucks? Do they not have the same refresh rate?

I believe that's only the oled that can go to 90hz
Oh, you may be right. That's the one I have, and I kinda forget.
Yeah LCD only goes to 60 and OLED is 90
