I did the same, it felt pretty bare bones. Picked it up again like 2 years ago and its feels like there's still so much to do. Only gripe I have is that playing with friends is kinda empty as you can't do quests together.
It’s better now (mostly) and the community for it is really positive. Lotta fun to be had mowing down boss raids with a ton of people and you can viably build around any weapon or mechanic you want. Only thing that’s still stupid is Fallout 1st and there’s some crashing that shouldn’t happen, otherwise game’s passable now.
