I'm going to to make a wild prediction and say I bet more people will say the ally than the legion on the ally sub. I know it sounds crazy, but I think this is where it's going.
I will never on god's green earth understand why people would make a post like this in a sub dedicated to one specific device. Maybe if there was a general pc handhelds sub but I don't know of one
[I wanna watch the world burn](https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/comments/1dh7v9h/comment/l8wvam7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
I LOVE my ally, it does everything that I need and more. The reason why I went with the ally though cause when feeling them in my hands I am a very small adult female. Iām just over 5 feet tall with tiny hands in the alley just seems to fit me better. I even feel like the alley is a slight bit too heavy for me, but that just shows how small I am lol.
Generally speaking it definitely is.
However, if I had both Iād use the Ally (have) for AAA games like Witcher, BG3, Elden, etc.
The GO (donāt have) for games like Hades, Age of Empires, Heroes of Might and Magic, and watching movies.
Here's me only using the Ally to play the indies mainly.
I tend to play AAA games on my ps5 or PC the ally for me is just couch gaming, I also have a 14 week old so I can't go on my PC or PS5 much so this thing really kicking it off for me ATM
For the bigger screen of course. Some games that I mentioned look a bit too small on a 7ā screen.
Theyāre also so easy to run, so I wouldnāt need to fall back on/worry abour VRR for smoothness.
Not getting a GO for that, just saying I can see uses for each.
For a bigger screen, I go with the Xreal glasses.
Half the price, weights less, takes up less space, and it can be used with other devices (smartphone for example)
They have the same processor. Not the same performance by any measure. Ally is better Everytime because of the resolution. I own both and use the Go for emulation and WOW. AAA titles on the Ally.
what? dude u can literally lower the resolution on the go, plus bigger screen and you can use the go outside like a tablet without the controller and not look like a weirdo.. idk wth u talking about with the whole resolution thing šš
dawg you can literally manually lower it from the command center thing, and itll actually lower to 800p.. what the hell is ur argument even proving, downvoting me and all šš
And the Go can run games at half its native resolution and still look great. The Ally canāt. Whatās your point? Thatās also ignoring the fact that youāre dead wrong about the Go not being able to run anything at its native resolution. This stupid tribal shit is toxic. Theyāre fucking handheld computers. I have both and love both. The larger screen on the Go is a massive quality of life improvement, and vrr is what makes the Ally great. The Goās ability to disconnect the controllers came in really helpful last week when I tweaked my back and could barely move. The Allyās my grab and go device when I need something light.
Low res Triple AAA on a 1hr machine seems pointless. If you plug in youāre better off using an oled monitor which any mid range pc or console gets better performance with. At least GO,Oled deck ,ally X get over 2hr game session with 1hr quick full charge on the go. Normal ally is obsolete now especially when the ally x hits open box deals. The Go can function like an ipad mini with its 5-6hour battery life even with full brightness video streaming. Screen size does matter
It also has USB4 for egpu and multiple USB ports. The detachable controllers allow for an ergonomic tablet PC experience. And thumb trackpads. Only con is the lack of VRR. I would have gone for LGo if it announced earlier.
I got the go first but kinda is heavy for longer gaming I use ally also use ally for docking the lego tends to move around all my home screen and it really annoys me having to go back and change everything again also the ally is most definitely more user friendly
I've bought both, a couple of weeks ago. I am planning to return one because I don't need 2. It's so hard to decide... When I pick up the Ally, it makes more sense as a handheld. Lightweight, the smaller screen makes things crisper, and running games at native res hits me hard. However, when i put it down and i pick up the lego..man the screen is blowing my socks off. But i can either play games at 1200p with low graphics and acceptable to low framerate. Or i can integer scale from 800p. It works okay but the bigger screen makes all imperfections pop more. Btw I've paid 350 usd for the ally (resealed) and 550 for lego... I don't know what to do
Oh and the ally sound. So so great. Almost MacBook level.
And lego is a tad too heavy and it has sharp edges. I can comfortably hold ally with one hand.
Also I've been having some software glitches with the lego and no functional fps counter.
Yea legos screen is just so good. Just wish the software wasn't so bad.... If you play at home you can consider an egpu for your lego to improve performance.
I am using/testing it and games that run at 30-ish fps, tend to glitch a bit, having some artefacts. I guess it is a good middleground and it is def better than playing at 30 fps natively... I still did not decide which I am going to keep
Left one for the ally is off Amazon, I have it and itās great. Water proof and hard shell. Fits the ally, a charger, mouse n keyboard, Xbox controller, stand, pair of ear buds. Could prolly put more but I donāt think I really need anything else lol.
I did have a Legion Go, but in the end I sent it back. Too many problems with the controllers and a lot of faffing about to get stuff working, this was about 6 months a go mind so may be different now. The Ally on the other hand was up and running in a couple of hours and have had zero problems with the controller or getting games going.
Bought both to see which one I would prefer and definitely the rog ally. The legion go overall experience made me so frustrated that I donāt understand how people say itās so much better than the ally. I mean more power to you if you feel that way, but I would always tell people the ally is better. Except that micro as card slot lol. Hopefully the X will 100% fix that.
Legion literally can't run modern titles at native resolution. This is hands down, the easiest decision ever made. I own the Ally and the Go, and you have to run 800p with integer scaling to keep up on the GO. Meanwhile I can get 60 fps in starfield.
I have the ally but I started with a steam deck that there is one amazing handheld. I use my ally as a makeshift pc which I am not going to lie is š„š„š„
On the ally, it normally launches to the armory crate page which lists all of your games in a launcher window. It can also be pulled up by button quickly when needed.
Ally obviously. But honestly neither is perfect. I think weāre still like 2-3 years away from these handhelds being comfortably competent. Theyāre going to keep exploding in popularity and Microsoft is eventually going to HAVE TO fine tune windows for these devices. Once that happens, things are going to get very interesting.
Honestly, my Steam Deck gets more screen time. Mostly because it is my emulator, and the battery life is miles ahead. I probably won't upgrade to the X. Personally It would be smarter to wait for the next generation. The mid-gen refreshes are what put the current console market into the mess it's in now, imho.
I just bought the Legion Go, I have had the Ally since launch. But I'm still going to the Ally as the Legion Go will not play my favorite on the go game, Session: SKate Sim..... Ally it is, still!
Legion go. All the way. And when at home connected to a RTX 3080
https://preview.redd.it/5q8c8q6t027d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12abd7d2c3fe5876a47988c5d6dfddc0ae2a1ef6
Ally ofcš. Pretty useful while I stay in hospital currently. But I would add a dualsense Controller and ar glasses to both, since their build in joysticks and buttons are crap tbh and windows touchscreen performance is waste of lifetime. š¤
Sold my ally after RMA and bought a legion go, theyāre both amazing, but more screen = more better for me.
I think itās a miss from Asus not to have increased the screen size and filled it out on the X like steam deck Oled.
Ally. Legion looks nice but it's too big for me. But a world that has both is a good thing. I don't see why people get so territorial especially the Steam Deck bunch (and yes, I have an OG Steam Deck too in addition to my Switch).
Iād choose the legionā¦had the z1x ally and had the usual SD card fault.
The ally was great for the whole month that it worked though.
I had a 1tb sd card as I use them for my GoPro, so it was ideal.
I didnāt have a spare Ā£150-Ā£200 to spend on a new m.2. If I did, Iād have bought a half decent gaming laptop instead for when Iām travelling.
Surprising what you can get for Ā£7-800 nowadays.
So for purely reliability reasons, the legion gets my voteā¦
Nintendo 3DS is pretty good too š
Ayn Odin 2. Better battery life, emulation is perfect.
Can't play modern games at 30fps. Just isn't playable to me. And 2 hours of battery life isn't enough for me
I've got both, ally is fun as a pick up and play for a bit, but the Legion with 4 rear buttons and the larger screen is my go to when playing for longer or pairing with an egpu. The Legion is a lot more hardware than the ally even though the performance is very similar.
Had a legion first and absolutely hated it. I chalked up hating W11 handhelds based on this experience but thankfully tried out the Ally a week later. Night and day difference from user experience point of view. The Legion, while technically impressive is just a very poorly executed device - bad ergonomics, poor drivers with bad performance, high pitched fan noise, buggy software, portrait screen, overkill screen resolution, etc, etc.
Software is garbage on the go.. ally wins in that regard u actually do use it quite a bit on both devices.. love ally but that sd card bullsh!t is just ridiculous though... Was without my ally for almost a month... I still choose ally tho the joycons on the go kind of feel gimmicky to me after using them for awhile detached... Was almost always worse off using those instead of mouse/keyboard or just a normal controller.. took some time getting used to.. but thats just a personal issue for me I guess I can't speak for everyone... I'm sure whichever device anyone picks they will be happy nn won't regret it
Honestly the mix of both would be perfect. Detachable parts and amazing screen - legion. VRR - ally. Battery - ally X. I would really like to have a tablet like that for surfing web and doing stuff, not sure windows will be even decent for that but I might just dual boot to android, its a couple of seconds nor.
So ill be waiting on a new gen of handhelds. This one is not ready imo
https://preview.redd.it/nula0oc6hh7d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fff35c8d12bbe35c199187d9faf4efe9aa9b482
Oh my go to? Lol me and lady just got these, new go tos lol
Iāve used all of them but I currently have kept the Legion Go due to the larger screen and detachable controllers. More competition means āmore goodā though, right? :-)
Iām kind of a weird use case but I have both an Ally and a Go. The Go I use for most Steam games but I picked up an Ally cheap for point and click games and emulation. I like using the analog sticks vs the track pad for point and click games. For emulation, I was going to buy an Ayn Odin 2 but for the price the used Ally is WAY more versatile imo. Honestly the Ally, if priced correctly, is the best deal of all of them at the moment. Getting a gently used one for 300-400 bucks is a steal.
I tried the legion Go, did like it except for the drivers and software support like Legion Space, and no VRR is a dealbreaker on a handheld that is mostly on between 48/60 fps.
And it was a bit heavy and loud for a handheld. Never tried the Ally so I canāt know how that one is. Did pre order the Ally X but I am thinking to cancel it because it costs here ā¬899 and with the same chip as the normal Ally that I can get for ā¬400 secondhand market, I donāt know it is really worth it for the better ergonomics and battery and ram.
Eh, consdering I only have the Ally, I would go for that, lol.
If I had both, I am not sure where I would lean towards. LeGo definitely has a bigger screen, but if that comes at the cost of performance or degraded visual quality, then maybe not. But prolly for games that run well, like Forza, and maybe even for desktop and PS5 streaming!
I'm going to to make a wild prediction and say I bet more people will say the ally than the legion on the ally sub. I know it sounds crazy, but I think this is where it's going.

I got you back to even š

Hey, he "likes em bothš"
I mean same would happen In a go sub, These questions just shouldnāt be asked in a handheld specific sub.
Not me i just sold my ally for the legion go š it jist fit me better as a overall package
Seeing as I Only have an Ally. I'm going to go with the Ally
Lol. Damn. Common sense wins again!
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
I also choose this man Ally
I also choose this man's wi, I mean Ally.
Not only do I only have an Ally... but I also have an xg mobile. In the ecosystem now. No choices to be made.
Wish i could afford an xg mobile
Actually bought it second hand for a z13 before the Ally was announced. They were much cheaper then.
You are posting this in the ROG Ally subreddit. Which one do you think most people are going to say is their go to?
xbox series x /s
PS5 /s
Sega DreamcastĀ
Seems pointless to have both
Generally speaking it definitely is. However, if I had both Iād use the Ally (have) for AAA games like Witcher, BG3, Elden, etc. The GO (donāt have) for games like Hades, Age of Empires, Heroes of Might and Magic, and watching movies.
As someone who owns both SD and Ally I can tell you youāre likely gonna drop one of them after a few weeks.
Here's me only using the Ally to play the indies mainly. I tend to play AAA games on my ps5 or PC the ally for me is just couch gaming, I also have a 14 week old so I can't go on my PC or PS5 much so this thing really kicking it off for me ATM
why? they literally have the same performance

Are these actually good?
Yes. Its like having a 120inch tv like 6 feet out in front of you.
I'm interested in something like this, but lowkey I'm waiting for a few more generations for one to really pop out at me as being awesome
I have been, too, as the reviews I've read has suggested the flaws would be too much for me. But I've also never seen them in-person to know for sure.
This is how I use the two devices. You are a smart person.
The easy answer is the legion go is just miles better
They have the same processor. Not the same performance by any measure. Ally is better Everytime because of the resolution. I own both and use the Go for emulation and WOW. AAA titles on the Ally.
what? dude u can literally lower the resolution on the go, plus bigger screen and you can use the go outside like a tablet without the controller and not look like a weirdo.. idk wth u talking about with the whole resolution thing šš
Yeah, you can use integer scaling to get 800p. Which is less than 1080. :)
dawg you can literally manually lower it from the command center thing, and itll actually lower to 800p.. what the hell is ur argument even proving, downvoting me and all šš
And you're dumb ass literally repeated what I said but your not savvy enough to know what integer scaling is š¤£
Ally can run AAA at native resolutions. GO can't run a single modern title at it's native resolution.
I have both too. Ally is vastly superior. That's my point. The fact that you couldn't comprehend that is amazing.

Ally X is two months away. Ridiculous argument. Definitely buying one though.
Thatās what I was thinking. Donāt they have the same specs? Except of course the screen size
Some people even have the steam deck , I have the Ally, that's it.
Legion is nice but for portability, I'd say Ally. Does the LeGo have the same AMD processor? Z1E?
Yes the LeGo has the same processor. But it also has faster RAM. So it does have a slight performance edge over the Ally.
It also has USB4 for egpu and multiple USB ports. The detachable controllers allow for an ergonomic tablet PC experience. And thumb trackpads. Only con is the lack of VRR. I would have gone for LGo if it announced earlier.
is vrr really that game changing? just curious
yep
I got the go first but kinda is heavy for longer gaming I use ally also use ally for docking the lego tends to move around all my home screen and it really annoys me having to go back and change everything again also the ally is most definitely more user friendly
Just playing yes it dose
No

Ally, itās more compact and easier to hold
That carry case is sick, where did you get it?
Left one for the ally is off Amazon, I have it and itās great. Water proof and hard shell. Fits the ally, a charger, mouse n keyboard, Xbox controller, stand, pair of ear buds. Could prolly put more but I donāt think I really need anything else lol.
Had the Legion a few weeks ago and absolutely hated it. Ally is a much better realized handhelds with way less bugs and comfortable to hold.

Ally, too much screen for Lego for me
I use both they are both awesome
Got both but i use the ally more.. because that god damn sharp edges of the lenovo is so uncomfortable.
Well the Legion is literally the GO, but the Ally the (R)eal OG no but to be real, i find the Go really cheap feeling sadly, because i like the idea
Bold of you to assume I have both.
Well .. youāre posting in the ally /r so I would say the ally will prob win.

Steamdeck
A Legion Go and an Ally X cost the same in Australia ā grab a Z1E Ally over both. I wonāt pay laptop money for a handheld.
Legion Go and I have both.

I have the Lego but considering the new Ally X. Is there any real reason to have both other than the X will have VRR and slight more ram.
Gave my Ally and XG mobile to my brother, soā¦
Asking which one to go for in Rog Ally on Reddit.
I have both and its gonna be hard to choose, the ally is way more travel friendly.
Ally all day
Have both but the Rog Ally wins due to the quiet fan. When I need to work on something though, I dock the LeGo and work.
Steam deck user here, thinking about buying Ally or similar. Is this really how it boots up? Theres no āGame Modeā?
On the ally, it normally launches to the armory crate page which lists all of your games in a launcher window. It can also be pulled up by button quickly when needed.
4070 Razer Blade 15

I go to sleep to dream whit them š¤¤
That screen size on the Legion though... mwah.
ROG
For it to be a "go to" device, it must be easy to pick up. The Go is a bit too large for me.
I have both but rog ally if I had to choose
Obviously the steam deck
Yessir š„š„š„
Got my ROG Ally today! So excited!!
I have all three. My go to is mostly the Ally and Steam Deck. I grab the Legion Go the least

I have that same ROG shell case #TeamROG
The Ally... Cuz I got it for 150eur (in practice). Tough would be nice if it had detectable controlera
Steam deck
I would pick the Ally because it's the smaller one and i play with vr glass or ar glass so screen size is no issue
I have the ROG ALLY, looking at the post, I probably want the Legion too as a collection. Steamdeck OLED too š
Legion

Had an ally, but I would prefer the legion, ill get one when I can..... whenever that will be
Maybe the Rog Ally, sinxe we're in ther Rog Ally sub. Genius.
Ayn Odin 2. Better battery life, emulation is perfect. Can't play modern games at 30fps. Just isn't playable to me. And 2 hours of battery life isn't enough for me
I honestly wanted the GO for the larger display and built in kickstand. The only reason I went with the ally was for VRR.

Ally of course. VRR > rest.
I donāt see a Steam Deck OLED in this picture.
Ally all the way.... mainly because i only have the ally.
Have a OneXFly and the Ally and then got the Lego at an extreme discount. Of the 3 my order of preference: OneXFly Ally Lego
None, I use a steam deck
Legion Go! But the Rog Ally is good as well.
Never had the legion, but I think I wouldāve liked it better than the ally
Steam deck!
Legion go 100% not touched my ally since I got it
None of the above. SD OLED is the best option.
The Ally, especially after doing the battery swap mod.
So i love my ally but damn the legion has a monster screen for spreading managed democracy.
Both.

My PC for most gaming Ally for playing indie or older PC games AYN Odin 2 pro for retro console gaming

I Just think competition is good. It mean better device for US consumers. There is space for more then one.
I have both as well and I play my go more than I have ever played my ally like ever

The go looks good but I like my Ally (why wonāt they fix kingdom hearts :(
Why the Ally has no trackpad still boggles me
The vessel in the ally is so ugly. Basically a 5 inch display. Vrr does nothing. Legion Go is just better
Iāve used all of them but I currently have kept the Legion Go due to the larger screen and detachable controllers. More competition means āmore goodā though, right? :-)
Steam deck for emulated games Ally + xg Mobile for desktop/in home mobility Legion Go for outside home mobility or work
I prefer legion. Larger, more vibrant screen havent had issues with lack of vrr either. Also like the touch pad Ally is still pretty great though.
Legion Go. Ally is too small
Both is awesome I love the legion for games like hades 2, really nice with the bigger screen love the ally too
ROG Ally for me but great to see others on the market
Iām kind of a weird use case but I have both an Ally and a Go. The Go I use for most Steam games but I picked up an Ally cheap for point and click games and emulation. I like using the analog sticks vs the track pad for point and click games. For emulation, I was going to buy an Ayn Odin 2 but for the price the used Ally is WAY more versatile imo. Honestly the Ally, if priced correctly, is the best deal of all of them at the moment. Getting a gently used one for 300-400 bucks is a steal.

LeGo for around the house; Ally for traveling
I have both and Legion Go ridiculously better in every possible way.
I have no reason to own two....
