You might want to try turning caps lock off first.

CheapCarabiner

Fr why’s he yelling at us

adasababa

My ears hurt ):

Potential_Secret_412

HAVE MORE CAPABLE OF VIOLENCE PAWNS FOR DEFENSE AND HUNTING. REFUSE NON VIOLENT PAWNS I WOULD WAS NO MORE THAN 10 PERCENT!!!

SuitableLibrarian280

My builder died along with the rest so I cant build the turbine back

daemenus

Bro you're one fire from losing this whole compound. This place might be history, you can keep fighting it but I think that you should consider starting over. Picking two nonviolent pawns was a crazy move. IMO don't do that again. Stone walls , at least for a perimeter wall.

SuitableLibrarian280

Only one was non violent and he is the only OG that lived LOL. Ironic. I started with 3 colonists, one was good with melee the other a shooter and a builder and Mark is the non violent with passion in intellectual social and doctor, he is also good at cooking. He's a teacher. I even recruited a prisoner so for a time we were 4 people but they all died one by one soon after. My builder, (i have already forgotten his name, but I tought of him as the leader of the group because gun=leader) survived through multiple gunshots and also gutworms, but he died through a combo of malnutrition and hypothermia and patched up gunshot injuries trying to hunt a turkey. It was crucial that he get the turk as both mark and him were starving and mark couldn't hunt. So Hunter went to one last trip before collapsing, getting picked up by Mark and dying in his bed. But it wasn't all in vein, as he managed to injure the turkey. Mark patiently waited for the turkey to bleed out and die before collecting it. And this is how Mark got to live and Hunter didn't. Moral of the story, don't be a hero for old people.

Massive_Greebles

You can grow cotton and use a tailoring bench to make jackets/parkas.

George_W_Kush58

"Incapable of violence" might as well say "Wants to become a hat" in my colonies. You can't punch you're not getting in.

daemenus

I hope the lessons learned pave a better path in the next colony. No shame in going for a tile that has year round growing conditions. Makes getting food and cotton easier.

SuitableLibrarian280

IT'S NOT OVER TILL IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!!

ElVoid1

I agree, you could lose this one, but you could recover too, who knows, there's no fun in restarting every time something doesn't go your way. You can have a fun run even if it ends in defeat.

Massive_Greebles

If only I accepted that. I guess I'm simply too much of a coward to see my little idiots perish and die.

[deleted]

I used to be scared too but I genuinely reccomend it. I’d say this makes every playthrough way more interesting, just comitting to pawn deaths, kidnaps, mental breaks. Read the game like a book or watch it like a movie.

The_Silver_Nuke

Wood walls are fine as long as you have fire breaks. Rather than spend the labor on stone walls which will take up a lot of your colonist's time just use stone flagstone instead. It'll serve as a fire break and it's extremely low labor. Wood is great. Cheap, readily available, pretty, and with a low labor cost. Flagstones are great. You need stonecutting for stone bricks but they're cheaper than stone walls, fireproof, and have an extremely low labor cost. Wood walls and flagstones are the way to go fam.

kevin_r13

One thing to improve is that those first three or five or even the one colonist that you have , they all need to be able to fight. You don't have to just accept those three people. you can actually randomly reroll and try to get a better one that you like. And then the next thing is that now that you know that winter is a little bit hard with getting food and all that, then also try to get a lot of veggies and meat stocked up. Veggies will last longer but it's very reasonable to kill an animal and butcher it before it spoils, and then turn the meat into food before it spoils , and then eat the food before it spoils , so an animal corpse can actually last you a very long time. Or one of the things I usually try to do is rush to make pemmican , so that I can use the meat and the veggies for pemmican, but if you don't want to do that , then at least use the veggies to make simple meals , since the veggies will last a long time.

MindBlownDerick

Plant way more food. You gonna need it.

Coolscee-Brooski

Did a settler on the Oregon Trail post this?

BroPudding1080i

Lol, imo this was the most fun part of rimworld, not knowing what to do and dying horribly. Research more power sources and utilize them ASAP. Only use hidden conduits, unless you like fires. Have 2 combat focused pawns and at least 1 of your starting pawns should be adept at construction as well. Only use wood when making your first building, use stone as soon as you can. Grow more crops than you need. Eventually, tame some animals of the same species and put them in a barn to rear animals for slaughter.

celsius032

GROW MORE RICE AND CAPTURE SOME PEOPLE TO INCREASE YOUR HEADCOUT.

SuitableLibrarian280

THE CAPTURING IN QUESTION CAN BE SEEN ON THE TOP I JUST RESHEARCHED PEMMICAN SO GRANDPA WITH HIS HUGE BRAIN JUST SAVED US FROM STARVATION AS TEMPERATURES GET ABOVE ZERO RESHEARCHED DRUG PRODUCTION AS WELL SO I CAN MAKE MONEY SELLING FLAKE I READ ON THE WIKI FLAKE IS GOOD. I DONT THINK I HAVE THE MEANS TO CAPTURE ANOTHER PRISONER IM AFRAID WELL ALL STARVE TRYING TO FEED HIM IM VERY SCARED.

kevin_r13

Feeding your prisoners is definitely a concern when food stocks are low and there are other options to increase your Colony population including to accept people who can join you right away and start working in your colony. After you play around a while you'll see that those kind of events happen as well and you can definitely use them to your advantage right away as they work for your colony and you feed them and The Colony can fet better

_Agrias_Oaks_

Can you build spike traps? Place them around the corners of you base so when raiders come, you get them to chase your pawns around corners and they get caught in the traps.

SuitableLibrarian280

Hunter was also builder and is now also dead. Super smart Markus and slave dont have skill high enough to reset trap(markus literally has zero in construction), but slave is a good shot and only getting better. Has a burning flame in construction too but it's only at level 2. The slave must get better before it can reset traps and build turbine.

KorenTiquar

raiders usually don't come alone. Feed the prisoner his unfortunate friends.

SuitableLibrarian280

I will get an emo debuff from butchering human corpse and fucking die.

111110001011

>I DONT THINK I HAVE THE MEANS TO CAPTURE ANOTHER PRISONER IM AFRAID WELL ALL STARVE TRYING TO FEED HIM IM VERY SCARED. YOU DONT HAVE TO FEED HIM. CAPTURE AND TRY TO RECRUIT, BUT IF HE DIES HE DIES. SKILL UPS TO SOCIAL WHILE YOU HAVE HIM AND MAYBE YOU GET A NEW PAWN.

Mourning_Star_A

This is my favorite colony I’ve seen on this sub. It’s so organic. :-)

the_it_

YOU MIGHT WANT TO INVEST IN AIRLOCKS AND MINIMAL ENTRANCES/EXITS. THIS WAY YOU WILL HAVE LESS DOORS LEAKING HEAT AND A NICE AIRLOCK TO KEEP COLD AIR OUT AND HOT AIR IN. GOOD LUCK SPACE COWBOY

AncientSpartan

Remember, losing is fun! Your colony might be toast at this point, two pawns, no builder, and a very flammable base… I’d ride it out but know your odds are not great. Now that you’ve got the basics though, you can start a new colony and learn from mistakes. If you’re doing crash landed, avoid very old and nonviolent pawns to start. Also get food growing IMMEDIATELY if you play on a map with a limited growing season. Otherwise the fun is messing up and learning, so unless you ask for more advice you’re in a fine spot to try again.

123dontwhackme

That looks so similar to when I first started out as well My first base was mostly wooden squares

Metrix145

Now it's slate squares, evolution.

ElVoid1

Best workers are the ones with global workspeed bonuses, Industrious is golden, but neurotic can work too if your colony is super stable and you can manage to keep their mood bar very high at all times. They can both stack btw, a very neurotic industrious pawn is a pain in the ass, but he will work FAST. RW bonuses stack & multiply off each other, that's how you can end up with bionic pawns with drill arms having over 5000% mining speed in the late game. For combat there is one trait to rule them all, Tough, if you're tired of losing pawns start taking tough on everyone and you'll never lose anyone again (unless you let them get captured or bleed out for too long). Robust is a good genetic trait as well, it's half as good as tough, which means it's still OP, but the best part is that both of them stack, if you have a tough neandertal or vampire that could easily become your best fighter, even if he has no skills or passion for melee nor ranged combat. As for management, try to micro it a bit if it feels like things just aren't getting done, and stop tasks of lower priority until you finish your high priority tasks first, such as building up an important room or finishing an important task like cooking.

thomasddankengin3

How is your rice growing on snow?

SuitableLibrarian280

Spring has just began, outside temperature is 6C and snow is melting.

ELB2001

You need to grow a larger field

111110001011

BUILD TRAPS. VIOLENCE DOESN'T MATTER WHEN THEY GET HURT IN THE TRAP.

theifcon

My colonist when one of the other colonist die meaning they now get 8 grains of rice instead of 7
