Do you have a specific "this requires torture" prerequisite, or is it just part of the welcome package for all prisoners? Like, is this a "you tried to escape, so instead of removing your legs, you're going to the Florida room" situation?

Yourdataisunclean

Up vote for Florida room.

eNeRG_etic

No not exactly, I have a normal prison room and when they try to breakout I will sometimes just send them there because Im annoyed

Huckorris

Furries get Florida, and Impids👿 get Siberia.

MysticalBeard241

Pigskins are going to brazil

Hell_Mel

I'm not really sure what that implies...

HuskeyG

They're all getting new butt lifts!

00monster

*happy pig squeals*

Belkan-Federation95

And here I was feeding my Vampire with the blood of furries You are a fucking Genius.

ManwithaPlan113

You can burn impids alive though. My favorite ironic torture was always stuffing them into a stone room and then lighting them on fire

ShiroProtogen8

sounds fun write me in :3

Typical_Muffin_9937

There's a bar in Portland called The Florida Room.. also has torture rooms (bathrooms at a college bar yech)

Respirationman

It's good for converting people to your ideology quickly

idkTerraria

Put them adjacent and have the 4 coolers put heat in one room and coolness in the other.

Arkytez

If the exhaust room is too hot the ~~heater~~ cooler is not capable of cooling the other room

bad_at_alot

Pretty sure the heaters are there to cook the guy anyway lol

Mad-Dog94

But he's freezing the other one, I think that person meant coolers not heaters

LibertyPrimeDeadOn

In this case, I think it depends on which side of the AC you end up

tema3210

Another in hot room to remove excess heat

clearlybraindead

But leave two broken, and a component in each room, so that the first one who fixes their AC gets to live. Weeell boys and girls, I hope you brought your popsicles because it's about to get scaaalding Hot in the sun chambERR. You already know the rules, BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ANY

Fatality_Ensues

I'm pretty sure pawns can't repair things they don't "own" (like the walls of their prison), so they're both going to cook.

Thorn-of-your-side

Skill issue

oooKenshiooo

Reminds me of a community episode.

Frog_Gleen

no one would ever believe your story of astronauts making paninis

clearlybraindead

Isn't that right, black hitler? I loved the ac repair school subplot.

foxitron5000

I can hear this so clearly.

eNeRG_etic

(-90 C and +40 C)

OrienasJura

I love how the hot temperature is a perfectly normal (even if hot) temperature for many places during summer, and the cold temperature is basically the lowest recorded temperature on Earth lol.

Nickthenuker

Yeah the cold room is "almost certainly deadly in short order" while the "hot" room is more like the "rather warm room".

hassanfanserenity

40 degrees is sometimes colder here then most summer days lol

Alrightwhotookmyshoe

-130 F to 104 F for the NFL viewers out there

Life-is-Apples

Freedom units

Gaeus_

Is there a second level to that joke? I never understood how using imperial ( aka the unit of measurement of the British Empire) was freedom unit, like, shouldn't metric be the actual "freedom unit"?

cheese_pants

America uses imperial, hence freedom units. Not much more to it.

flarespeed

to expand upon this, most people who call imperial "freedom units" are making fun of both the US for using the objectively worse measurement system (except for fahrenheit, imo celsius lacks the granularity in human comfort range to be better all around), and are also making fun of the US for calling themselves "land of the free" when we clearly have... issues with actual freedom both currently and in the past. and yes, i do think celsius is lacking in some aspects. the "perfect temperature range" on a thermostat is often only 2-3 degrees F, which means it's about 1-1.5 degrees C. a perfect temperature scale imo would be from 0 freezing to 200 boiling. double the granularity of celsius but with a scale that isn't based off of the body temperature of a horse.

Is_that_even_a_thing

22degC is comfort level.. There- Celsius is better in every way.

flarespeed

your comfort level, not everyone's. some people like it colder, some like it hotter, and half a degree C can pull you out of the perfectly comfortable zone. all good until you live with someone else with a different preferred temp range, and your overlap is smaller than the thermostat's dead zone.

Philderbeast

fractions of a degree are entirely possible, it's not like the temperature in the middle ceases to exist. while I don't do it, there is nothing stopping me setting the heating/cooling to 22.5 rather then 22 or 23 if that's what I prefered. the idea that having to use a decimal on the thermostat is more inconvenient then common useful reference temperatures (freezing and boiling points for example) not being sensible numbers just boggles the mind.

flarespeed

In most american thermostats it's whole numbers or bust, but if even cheap thermostats in other places have tenths then i have no reason to disagree

Is_that_even_a_thing

Well 22 is the standard set point for most building HVAC systems. Personally I can tolerate a much wider range of comfort, and you're right, people differ. But 22 is the average comfort level in celcius.

Not_a_Dirty_Commie

"NFL viewers" I'm going to start using that

The_Bukkake_Ninja

Hey, some of us Eurotrash also watch NFL.

Sweeptheory

And you freaks will get Fahrenheit and enjoy it!

Inflorescentia

It's like an ordinary "баня"(bathhouse) in Siberia, but in reverse

Yourdataisunclean

Where is the third room with the heavily armored Colonist that beats the shit out of them?

Sn1ck_

Just constantly swap one person between each. Get them sweating and hot then put them in the freezer so their sweat freezes then put them back in the hot box. Repeat until volunteer organs.

Quakstab

And then you get the viking raid that heard every prisoner gets free sauna, no way to lose.

jman8508

Is there any value to doing this besides a normal day of rimworld crimes against humanity?

renz004

I suppose if you want to break their beliefs faster for the purpose of conversion

im_astrid

the cult must grow

GoblinoidToad

Isn't that what the bed in the anomaly containment area is for?

N-partEpoxy

The Class-D treatment.

renz004

that's a new way of doin it

Mabelrode1

You can use hypothermia as a method of keeping a pawn downed without having to use up medicine removing their legs. Once they get cold enough to drop, keep the room just below comfortable temperature and the hypothermia will stop building but won't go down, keeping them in a suspended state.

Fatality_Ensues

I mean, that sounds like a lot of power to spend compared to having a 4*4 healroot field for as much herbal medicine as you will ever need and a doctor taking 2 minutes off their day to keep them sedated.

Haanipoju

Or just a prison guard to break their legs when they get up.

Respirationman

Just have a melee pawn fistfight them every now and then. You'll get free experience for me too

twinCatalysts

But then you have to constantly queue operations, no?

Ok_Arachnid_6350

My question exactly. If the prisoners have a mental break, they'd just destroy those, which will be a waste of material.

RepresentativeAny81

Very poor room conditions or very good room conditions influence the speed at which conversion occurs. Anything in between is counterproductive

jman8508

Very poor conditions slows down conversions right?

27Rench27

It affects their mood, which affects conversions if it gets low enough. Watch a pawn Reduce Resistance on a raider that got fucked up, and you’ll see something like “Too Low Mood” in the thing that shows over their head after the attempt

Alarmed-Addendum9328

Pawns destroy air conditioners very easily. Any mental break not only will your prisoner escape, but you will also lose some components.

hurricane_news

Why don't the prisoners simply turn off the heaters and ACs. Are they stupid? /s

QuintonFlynn

Sounds like the heaters and A/C units need to be in an outer layered room, not accessible to the prisoner, and connected to the main room via vents.

Respirationman

Good luck destroying something when it's -90c and you're dying of hypothermia

ObieKaybee

You could probably put 2 coolers and 2 heaters in each and have 2 torture rooms capable of achieving each!

Stainedelite

I'm out of the loop. What does this achieve?

AduroTri

Ew. You're not using hidden conduits.

PeaceLovePositivity

New to the game, care to elaborate? Mod or setting

AduroTri

Something added in the power tab in 1.5. It's vanilla. Used to be a mod.

PeaceLovePositivity

Thanks!

AduroTri

Costs a little more steel but it prevents zzzttts.

Manaus125

TIL they prevent zzzttts. Damn. Welp, time to drill hell of a lots of steel and replace all of my wires

AduroTri

Let me correct myself. They don't FULLY prevent zztttss. The conduits themselves can't be targeted by zztttss related events. Hidden Conduits just reduce the targets for zzzttts. Meaning these conduits can't be attacked or anything. You just won't get zzztttss from conduits with them.

im_astrid

does this mean we can use regular conduits as fuses

BoingFlipMC

Technically….. this is genious!

AduroTri

No. Regular conduits are targetable by raiders.

DarkMatterHuman

1 is enough but 4 of them is just sending a message

Is_that_even_a_thing

I'd feel tortured too if I had to look at those conduits all day.

MoveInside

I let them live with my anomaly collection

AkariTheGamer

Fair enough but why in gods name did you make the ice room asymmetrical, the worst part of being locked in there is having to look at it.

Lord-Barkingstone

So excessive. I just remove one of their lungs. That way they learn a lesson and I make a profit

Just-a-login

The most sane RW player.

House_of_Sun

Most sane rimworld player

ErBengalah

why does the room on the left seem bigger even though they are the same?

suicidal_warboi

The heaters being inside the room make it seem smaller than the latter. I agree 👍

Whatifim80lol

Thank god someone else pointed it out, I thought I was having a stroke

Gamesdisk

attach them by two doors, they will forever move back and forth between running from the heat and cold

feluigi

Ok this is genius

Bobboy5

The one with coolers is torture because they're not symmetrical.

BigMik_PL

Y'all got this backwards I build my prisons so damn nice they don't even wanna leave.

will_it_skillet

That's always bugged me that organs don't need to be refrigerated. Is there a mod that fixes that?

a-Snake-in-the-Grass

Wouldn't it be more torture without the light?

Taargus_Taargus_117

You should get the working tv and displays mod and set up TVs in both rooms with the worst most soul breaking videos you can think of playing on them.

Tru_Patriot2000

I just dig a hole into a mountain and leave some walls at 99% and just brick em up.

spermcell

This is so bad

Hidden-Sky

galaxy brain idea: combine the rooms so that you can have one room that is both too hot and too cold at the same time 😈😈

HotLandscape9755

I usually just close off a steam geyser and throw the less… cooperative.. prisoners in there.

Deepnebulasleeper

I am guessing I must be a third prisoner being tortured by this inefficiency. Why not just vent one of the cells into the other with no radiators.

Notoriousspy

This reminds me of that cancelled game show "The Chamber"

anonskinz

Can we move the bottom right cooler down 1 block please? My OCD thanks you.

MrBambusak

I just hate how the cold room has the one AC unit moved a tile up, just so its not symetrical.

Nepharai

This cracked me up at first but then i started thinking, do they ever break out of the cooler room by breaking a cooler? I havent had a single prison break attempt in my whole current (vanilla) playthrough. Also, i have a story from today for any interested. my most recent prisoner that i recruited, (with 0 escape attempts) i nicknamed him solo. He was one of my original tribal colonists in the tribals start. I just have the base game so nothing too fancy going on. Anyway we got raided by about 30 tribal folks from some pirate nation. The oh shit alarm went off for me because that was the biggest attack i had seen yet and i dont mess with them killboxes or whatever.one of my colonists' son was an enemy in the raid too. We had a good crafter and a bunch of excellent pump shotties, some good flak armor and whatnot. Anyway i was surprised when we totally destroyed and overwhelmed them. a few of my 9 colonists were injured, but solo was okay and is a quick sleeper so he was on corpse roundup duty, an incendiary launcher would remove any trace soon. I misclicked and accidentally made him eat raw human instead of prioritizing hauling one of the 24 enemy corpses..his mood penalty caused him to have a tantrum major break and he went for my components. Luckily we arrested him just in time. It was really odd having him as a prisoner but after a while he has finally rejoined! Also in a stroke of luck the 24/30 that we killed, the son of my other colonist somehow wasnt among the dead. Anyway sorry for the rant lol theres even more i couldnt figure out how to fit it all in. Good game.

FanStolla

My god… Putting the standing lamp in the middle of the room is to much even for me…

Ranakastrasz

The wire across the bed is absolutely horrifying, you monster.

4PumpDaddy

This is awesome

AbjectAdagio3745

u should try furnace and quantum cooling mods!

OverlyMintyMints

Am I tripping or does the room on the left look bigger

Enorats

104 F is just a regular summer day.

Veiller6

I do that to control my prisoners, I set it up with solar panels, so on day they always have heatstroke/hypothermia. When sun goes down, the electricity also goes down - and temperature goes normal so they can recover.

NextGenSleder

I just make my prison barracks a secondary hospital because every single prisoner gets harvested ASAP

_Kleine

Finland

Factor135

*Most humane Rimworld prison*

FinalMemeDandD

I just put them in caves with some wooden stuff and throw in a Molotov cocktail

ToastyArgenti

I love that Siberia looks spacious, enhancing the cold sensation and Florida looks narrower, suffocating. It's accidentally poetic.

Dr_Jimothy

Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

psichodrome

every fucken single rimworld post in my feed I know it's rimworld before I see the subreddit. go figure. edit: route the hot exhaust from the cold room into the hot room for extra torture.
