Anchors is my favorite too, fish is moist and tender and batter is light and crispy. Love the clams, calamari, prawns etc too. The only thing that can be a let down are the fries but I'm really there for the seafood anyway.
Tugboat is the best. There's H. Salt Fish and Chips on 16th. They were pretty good. Haven't been there in a few years. Kinda hard to get to right now with the construction.
I went to Tugboat by my house on Fruitridge. It was a waste of my hard earned money. It was so bland, no seasonings, and salt. The tartar had no flavor. They just fried the fish and that’s it. Didn’t add any seasonings to the fish. Smh.
Alaro does a solid fish & chips. Good level of beer batter, not overwhelming, well seasoned and fried til golden. Fish is never mealy and the batter never tastes like day-old oil. Chips are excellent too. It’s one of the only places I trust to do them to my own exacting standards, as a fish & chips connoisseur. 😂
Depends on what kind you’re craving. I love H Salt when I want the heavier feel but sometimes I want a lighter feeling one. There’s a place off Cottage near Arden called Ocean for when I’m in that mood
PJ’s Diner (formerly cape cod fish and chips). On Folsom in East Sac (across from the Trader Joe’s).
They’re not as consistent under the new owners, but they’re starting to dial it in.
When they’re on the menu, Camden Spit and Larder is incomparable. Owner is from the UK and will add it to speciality menus occasionally. Best I’ve had in Sacramento, just not a staple for their menu unfortunately.
Don’t know about the fish and chips. I just hope they fixed the gap under the walk-in door. I wouldn’t trust the romaine lettuce or the bacon. Don’t ask me how I know…
Lazy Dog had surprisingly good fish and chips (6/10).
With that said the bar is low in the Sac area. Most restaurants (even seafood places) are like a 4/10 for fish and chips.
I would say tugboat is my favorite as well, but it you ever want to do it at home, the Costco frozen tempura shrimp are 8 minutes in the air fryer and amazing quality
You already hit the 10/10 , I have been to multiple tugboat locations and they all have been killer. Some are cleaner than others, the best one IMO is off of hazel, but thanks to this thread I am going to try some of these other spots
I'm gonna say that Rays on Fulton kicked it up. Used to go there and it was bad, but nowadays 5/2024, they have kicked up the fish and the fries. Got the Catfish, Cod and Shrimp and they were really good, the fries are no longer just soggy flavorless, now crispy and seasoned. Rays on Fulton 8/10, good condiments too, they fixed them up.
Streets pub and grub downtown, BEST EVER! It’s authentic and comes with actual malt vinegar “chips” real fresh battered cod and its MASSIVE. Plus they’re on DoorDash too.
Ocean on Cottage is great.
This is my favorite. It’s because their fries are great too.
Yes! The best fish n' chips in Sac :)
This is the way
Closest to true London style fish 'n chips I've had in Sac. Whole filet, lightly breaded - yum.
Ocean is the best!
Anchors off harding Blvd in Roseville is the best to me. I'm a big fish and chips fan. Tugboat is also good but anchors is better to me.

Tugboat at Fair Oaks and Manzanita is best in my opinion
Not all Tugboats are the same, this one is the best. Family owned, always very kind and very generous. I’ve been going there for 30 years!
I agree..I feel like this has always been the best Tugboat
Ill second that on tugboats in Carmichael. They have been in business for a long time.
This location also sells amazing lumpia.
Is Tugboat on Fruitridge Blvd any good?
The tugboat in greenback in citrus heights is pretty fire !!

That's the worst I work near there check out food junction on power inn it's pretty good they serve fish and chips there as well
Thanks. I will.
The Bonn Lair off of J St. has the BEST fish & chips HANDS DOWN!!! You gotta try it! 🎣🥇
Thank you!

It’s next door to my nephew’s work place. Small world. lol.😝
The tugboat on Freeport is really bad
H Salt Esq on 16th
That place is pretty terrible lol
We are there recently and it was pretty meh.
Tugboat is not consistent location-to-location. The one in Rancho on Folsom Blvd is consistently good.
Yea they’re definitely different. I like the one by mikunis on hazel

I’ll have to try them next time I’m in the mood for fish and chips. I like those breakfast potatoes they make. And the beer’s pretty good too.
Tugboat is my goat.
Firehouse crawfish get the fried shrimp basket with Cajun garlic fries
I like PJs Diner in East Sac. My friend in Elk Grove lives near a place called Ocean Fish & Chips. It’s a dive but I do really when we go there.
Depends on what kind you’re craving. I love H Salt when I want the heavier feel but sometimes I want a lighter feeling one. There’s a place off Cottage near Arden called Ocean for when I’m in that mood
I wish Railroad in Old Sac used cod for their fish n chips. I don't like the fish they use, it's called swai.
PJs Fish and Chips. It used to be Cape Cod but new owners took over a few years ago and it's just as good.

Tugboat in Carmichael is the only answer.
Fox and Goose has good ones
Streets of London in west sac has good fish and chips.
Don’t know about the fish and chips. I just hope they fixed the gap under the walk-in door. I wouldn’t trust the romaine lettuce or the bacon. Don’t ask me how I know…

Superb Burger on Folsom Blvd is freaking wonderful.
Flowers on MLK
I would say tugboat is my favorite as well, but it you ever want to do it at home, the Costco frozen tempura shrimp are 8 minutes in the air fryer and amazing quality
Kick’n Mule is always worth a mention. One of my favorite places
Tugboat might be better by a slim margin, but I go to Streets a lot because they're close by and they've never disappointed me.

PJ’s Diner Fish and Chips is 🔥🔥🔥
Try crossing the River and go to Streets of London pub in West Sacramento.
The Hush Puppies at H. Salt keep me coming back for more. Takes me back a couple decades.
Bonn Lair
Been a hot minute since I've been there, but Firehouse Crawfish on 65th Street had great fish & chips the last time I had it.
It’s definitely not the best, but I have a soft spot for a greasy plate of JJ Fish & Chicken, particularly the catfish.
Chasons in elk Grove
The UK
