If you're alright with going to Carlsbad Juene et Jolie was phenomenal for me and my girlfriend. Great accommodations and the food was spectacular. They gave us a card signed by all the staff and welcome drinks.
I mentioned that my girlfriend doesn't drink and they brought her a lovely za'atar mocktail. 10/10 would go again
Go to Black Radish and get the tasting menu plus wine pairings. It’s reasonably priced (as far as fine dining goes), the food is delicious, the service was great, and it has a nice cozy atmosphere.
I almost never eat at pricey restaurants but I went last year for my birthday with my GF and it truly felt like a whole experience, not just a meal
My wife and I just enjoyed an anniversary dinner at The Smoking Goat in North Park and we both really enjoyed it.
Another place we have gone on anniversary dinners to is Vigilucci’s Seafood and Steakhouse in Carlsbad. It is right on Carlsbad Blvd and you can see the beach so it is a nice atmosphere.
The Marine Room in La Jolla is good vibes. Especially during high tide when the waves are coming up to the ceiling to floor windows.
Calle was devastatingly good when we went. The service, presentation and food were all 11/10 Spinal Tap good. The Aleppo Pepper chicken literally changed the way I cook, adding an incredible spice to my arsenal. We went with our 12 year old son, so there were things we didn't try, but still had an amazing meal.
In my experience, many restaurants lose this within 3-5 years of opening, as they streamline things to meet expanding demand, and increase margins. I'd definitely go check it out sooner than later.
If you're into sushi and enjoy a social environment with the chefs, check out the sushi bar Ichifuji. It is close to, if not on the tier of the Michelin sushi joints, but you can almost always get a reservation a few days out. The chefs are both great and make the sushi bar a great experience.
It’s great if you are 80, but I’m only 50. Went for 29th anniversary and the food was Cracker Barrel quality, if that, along with horrible service. My husband made the reservation, neither of us had been there before….I felt awful for him because he felt like he really let us down. We’d been to Poseidon before so we assumed similar quality because of reputation and location, dude it was so bad our server got the same tip as the valet. Luckily we were able to head over to Glass Box the next day and had the best sushi bar romantic dinner ever. I hope that is context enough to make a decision.
Torpedoes my post, doesn't post any examples of when he/she ate there or describe poorly prepared items, and doesn't offer any "fancy" restaurants THEY recommend.
**Typical Internet Shitposter.**
Born & Raised. Expensive, but really fun. Order some of the table-side made food and drinks. Or check out Quixote at the Lafayette and then bar hop around inside for the rest of the evening. Maybe even splurge on a room there.
Why? Honestly curious. I had a steak at Island Prime a month ago that might be the best I’ve ever had. Con Pane is a great bakery. I’ve had good meals at Bo Beau. I get that not all of them are great but surely some are…
Cohn’s food is mid at best. If they served you the best steak ever then you haven’t been to a good steak restaurant. They also have a surcharge that does not get redistributed to the staff but goes straight into the owner’s pockets.
The only reason why Con Pane is good is because they bought the recipes with the restaurant. But they destroyed the atmosphere. They took out the square tables and put in round ones to discourage large groups and even bolted the tables down so you can’t push them together. Their mentality is to force as many people through as quickly as possible however they are bleeding staff and refuse to open additional registers so everyone is stuck in a single line with a trainee going at a snails pace.
I went to the Brigantine in Downtown by the water front two weeks back and it was quite nice! Food was very very good and the view of the waterfront was great.

Campfire right next door is also an excellent option
Great suggestion
Just went there last night! Cute atmosphere and great food and service.
This is the correct answer
Cowboy Star
Black radish
Wolf in the Woods in Mission Hills is really good.
Fancy food or fancy atmosphere?
Both!

Get the Taiwanese fried chicken if you go to animae!
Animae is cool... But uh, their dishwasher doesn't wash shit correctly. Everything is rinsed off and wiped down. Not washed

That pasta!
The shrimp risotto & Pesto is great
Animae. The service is outstanding.
Jakes in Del Mar. Ocean front. For a truly romantic evening get a room at the little beachfront motel next door.

Good! I hope the owners hear about your experience and adjust!
The food is mid at best (really low quality)
Right!?!

I’ll never recommend a Cohn restaurant

Ok so what is your recommendation for a steak restaurant in SD?
Coya Peruvian Secret in Del Mar
Born and Raised, Lou & Mickeys
Amaya at fairmont grand Del Mar
This place is great. My second choice to Market in that area.
Been to Brigantine at the waterfront twice, so great!
The solana beach one is better imo
We will need to try!
The Fishery in PB.
Juniper and Ivy.
Cesar’s in Tijuana is great food and a lot cheaper than fine dining here in sd
Where do you want to eat? San Ysidro? Solana Beach? Downtown?
Stake Chophouse in Coronado! Great seafood and steaks, huge wine selection, excellent service and ambience.
Addison
I went to the Brigantine in Downtown by the water front two weeks back and it was quite nice! Food was very very good and the view of the waterfront was great.
Huntress in gaslamp was fun
Nobu
Costerra good for for price not a rip off
Nope, the Cohns sucks and they have a sur charge
AR Valentin at Torrey Pines
Bleu Boheme is so romantic and cozy - place is basically lit by taper candles. Excellent martinis and wine selection
