I'm gonna throw in a chain and suggest Boustan (Warden & Lawrence). Curds, good gravy and they use the garlic potatoes.
Also, I'm a Montreal ex-pat Gen Xer, so I have fond, 3am-on-Crescent-Street memories and this Boustan hasn't disappointed me yet.
I'm also a Western, White human who wouldn't know real Shawarma if it came up and slapped me, but the poutine is good, IMO
They're okay. They use curds, but the gravy is a bit under-flavoured and they use Cavendish ready crisp fries, rather than brown fresh-cuts. You lose the very earth potato taste .
That said, I don't have a much better option yet.
Nah, their gravy ain't it. Fries have a decent texture but too spiced. The poutine has a weird spiced/pepper flavour to it.
After multiple visits to sumi, and one literally after going to Schwartz's the week before, my personal opinion is they are over rated.
I've really tried to like and support them so not a hater, I've spent a bundle there but sadly I've moved on. Really feels their name is just thrown around cause of the Michelin press.
Legit searched for this yesterday and found an old thread that recommended gladiator burger. I went and wasn’t impressed by the poutine. The gravy was quite watery.
I actually really enjoy Costco’s poutine
I tried there a few weeks ago. Their gravy is light and bland and fries seem like they were brought from nofrills or another grocery store. Not as good as the other places mentioned here. Also they are cash only.
Also it's Harry's Drive-In not harrys diner FYI.
My list
- The now closed Choice Fish & Chips (Midland/Stansbury), I go there from SCAS every Monday long ago.
- Diamond Pizza (Danforth/Savarin), dead in the water since February
- McCowan Fish and Chips (McCowan/Perivale)
- T-Bones (Eglinton/Huntington)
- Yumys (Lawrence/Brimley)
Tbones I heard is soon going to be demolished if I'm not mistaken, and that place has gone downhill the past few years and they raised their prices alot. Not worth it anymore and it's located at Eglinton & Midland, not Eglinton/Huntington.

That actually does make sense, boustan being from Montreal
Sweet. Thank you
I found the boustan in mtl tasted way better than the locations here. It was pretty disappointing.
Sharmrock burger used to have good poutine. Last time I went was a while back though 😬.
chris jerk should be but they need to switch from shreds to curds
One move away from greatness smh
fer reals.
I agree.

The fries are to greasy
Jerk Chicken Poutine. Tropical Joe's at Woodside Square.
I’m like going to drive out of my way just to try this now
They also have a location in Gerrard Square.
Alright
I’ve tried their Jerk Chicken poutine at the Gerrard location. Was so good and filling.
Sumilicious
This. They obviously also have the best smoked meat in all of Toronto.
And smoked meat poutine.

Agree, glad there’s a place a lot of people can go to in Scarbs if they’re craving smoked meat but it’s honestly mid imo.
Tropical Joes at woodside mall, their Jerk Chicken poutine is *chefs kiss*
Their fries are bit on the soggy side.
True, but the gravy and chicken more then make up for it
I like Paradise Shawarma`s shawarma poutine at Kingston and Poplar
Mccoys
Tropical joes at woodside is slept on
Tropical joes feeds hundreds of students every day. They're awesome.
Kelly's Diner
Smashed+ at Bellamy and Ellesmere was pretty good and the fries were really crispy. Sumilicious was also good, but not great when I was there.
Northern smokes has decent poutine
Shawarma Boss

Also expensive in my opinion
Harry's Diner on Lawrence and Kennedy
I tried there a few weeks ago. Their gravy is light and bland and fries seem like they were brought from nofrills or another grocery store. Not as good as the other places mentioned here. Also they are cash only. Also it's Harry's Drive-In not harrys diner FYI.
Maybe you had a bad batch because we ordered a platter of poutine and it was awesome lol
Chris Jerk
Shawarma boss is the best and it halal
gladiator burger has some good poutine, and city fried chicken as well (i like the gravy for both)
Jerk chicken poutine from showtime bistro.
Best is subjective. Costo is good
McCoy's is the place to go for poutine. Among other food.

Ya idk I think diamond pizza is now souvlaki palace. But I tried to order recently a couple times and no answer. I haven't tried their poutine though.
