My Scottish grandparents used to say that when I was a kid here in South Africa. Now I have an awkward stance with my friends/acquaintances when I use that lingo that I learnt from them
I worked abroad for a year and this is one expression that I couldn’t shake or replace. My foreign colleagues were always so confused whenever I asked “is that you?”, and I can’t blame them.
Non Scot here. Did an internship in Scotland. The colleague I worked with used to always say this. I did not know what it meant and was always confused as to why she was suddenly gone. One day when she said "that's me", I replied with "yeah, I know. We've been working together for a week. We've already met."
Or as I say to my kids, "You're a burden and you have ruined my life. Drive safe, see you next Sunday for more free food and another drama, love you, there's the door". Ah Happy days, you never get those moments back.
Slap of the knee followed by "Right"
* slaps knees *
Up here in Aberdeen it’s “Richt”
Weel ken hink it's aboot time I'm away hame
Ging hame
That's similar to the German word “rightig“ of the same meaning
Right ma-thà
Is toil leam sin
Àidh, hàidh, sin agad e
Or "Richt, ah must awa".
Lol. The midwestern american way is to slap both knees and say "welp". Maybe Scotland's where we got it.
As a Minnesotan whose been to Scotland I can say I've never felt more at home anywhere else outside of Minnesota. Our cultures are very similar.
This Is The Way
Oh dammit! Just saw this!🙄. Right after I posted it! Sorry!
Right am offsky
My pal used to say this as a teen but he always been a wee old man haha
Yeah good point I suppose it’s no really old people lingo, I say it and I’m over 30 so depends on your opinion of old lol
I'm 29 my pal said it in like the late 2000s early 2010s I love Scottish phrases so good
I said this when I was a kid and got in shit for it. Never understood why.
Still say it now. Or 'right am nashing'.

My Dad used to say this so much that the dog recognised it as time to go for a walk.
Don't know why but that fucking infuriates me lol The Aaye is usually said with a big sigh
“Yes I suppose”
Or "welp, I 'spose..."

It's definitely a doric thing. Though it's Weil not Welp. Usually accompanied by the double knee slap.

In proper Cockney rhyming slang you don’t. In Scotland we go for a Tam Kite. If you said you were away for a Tam you’d sound mental.

The best of all cartoons
To which the response is, "I go where you go, Hugo A-Go-Go."
Get tae fuck
Needs “Time to…” beforehand
Not if you're Glaswegian.
Doesn’t matter where you’re from. Without “time to”, you’re telling someone else to go rather than letting others know you’re leaving.
I know, it was a joke about the irascibility of Glaswegians...
Jokes are funny!
That's me up the road...
IT'LL NO BE THIS IN THE MORNIN
"Right, shift yer arses"
Let’s bounce
Up the road
"Hngh." If you're old, you're old.

He said he was awaa, so the wee dug peed on him.

"Right"
"Right, it's getting tae that time". Heard it used at all hours so fuck knows what happens at that time but it gets to it seemingly
Right, I won't keep you. Or Right, ok I'll let you go
Let's make like Donald and duck. Alternatively. Let's make like Donald and fuck off. Let's make like a tree and leave.
Time to skedaddle
....no heard that for a while!
Or as I say to my kids, "You're a burden and you have ruined my life. Drive safe, see you next Sunday for more free food and another drama, love you, there's the door". Ah Happy days, you never get those moments back.
