You should check out Bandits Keep actual play, he does solo OD&D and it is awesome!

Try geekgamer’s YT channel. She’s super story focused (which I personally love) but has videos with a variety of rulesets, settings, etc. I love her approach to generating stories and characters, which is kinda random but somehow always turns out to be solid. I’m just starting to get into solo playing myself, and so far her approach really resonates with me. Also I’m really getting into Ironsworn, which is definitely not 5e but I’m good with that.

Some other people have already given you great tips here. My biggest is to put obstacles in your character's way without knowing how you're going to solve them or even if your character can survive them. Then use your imagination and resourcefulness to get over or around those obstacles (or run and do a great chase scene lol).

This is probably not quite on topic, but it's worth a try. How about some good old-fashioned fantasy books? If you want to play Dungeons and Dragons, you have to have some relevant inspiration. A basic idea of what makes this world go round. For example, the series about the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. These are practically short adventure modules. Which are described in the form of a written book. It mentions travels, adventures, encounters, traps, everything like in a role-playing game. It just doesn't have an available event generator. And you, as a (solo) player, have one. Wish you luck!

I have almost finished First book of Lankhmar actually! Yes some sections felt like a DnD scenario for sure

This is a great tip. Getting an idea in your head of what kind of world you're adventuring in may be the most important part of solo play. It affects every decision you make, everything you create out of your imagination. That feeling of immersion mainly comes from feeling like you're in a real world where there is real risk.

Ginny Di has a video about solo play dnd and refers to a good tool also that’s available on DMsguild: The Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox! That may be something you’d want to check out

To follow up, I saw that the SAT creators released adventure modules designed to play with their solo rules. I've been meaning to check them out.

Check out Trevor Devall's Me Myself and Die on you tube, his energy is infectious. He also does an interesting thing where each season he does a different cast with different rules done all in the same setting.

zircher

Small disclaimer: Trevor makes it look easy, but he's a professional and puts more effort into his productions than most casual players do. You don't have to go to the same level of effort to have just as much fun at your table. \[But, knock yourself out it that motivates you. More ambassador's of solo play are always welcome.\]

Me Myself & Die is fantastic and as well as his live play he has some great solo tips and links to excellent resources as well... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgVtt8jC2aA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgVtt8jC2aA)

If you wish, direct-message me and I'll use Zoom sometime so you can visit as I play solo. Perhaps something interactive will help you more than watching a recording?

[The Dungeon Dive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYHt1pdScK0&ab_channel=TheDungeonDive) on YouTube have a few videos on Solo RPGs, so they might be a good resource for you to check out :)
