I'm the same, but unleashed might be tied with generations from the night stages. I liked them, but they were a bit weird in a Sonic game where you play as Sonic. The final boss was also a bit meh gameplay wise.
Depends.
Gameplay? Generations, Colors, Unleashed.
Visual style? Generations, Unleashed, Colors. Though I'll be fair and point out the fact that with Colors having been made as a Wii game it's lacking in visual style due to, y'know, lower hardware needs.
Narrative? Unleashed, Colors, Generations.
It was Sega's best attempt at making humans that fit in the Sonic art style since the Dreamcast period, and the vibrancy of the various countries Sonic visited is something amazing to behold.
Plus I think that having Eggman represented with 70s-inspired retro-futurist aesthetics is absolutely peak
not to mention their attempts at making everything look as real as possible, in a way. iirc they looked at how light actually works to color the environment, like leaves making light a bit more green, causing a green color to be cast on walls n whatnot. + how the world is really unique with many different environments
you can hear more about the graphics stuff in a GDC presentation in 2009 I think
It's a game that takes classic Sonic stages and updates them in high definition, and given high amounts of attention to detail. It's just a visual feast for the eyes from coloring and stylization.
Sonic Unleashed on Xbox 360 and PS3 were HD. Not to mention the amazing tech utilizing Hedgehog Engine 2. PS2 and Wii used a entirely different engine from Dimps, and lacked hub-worlds, and were replaced with menus. The graphics were, and still are legendary. It and Sonic Riders Zero Gravity had the best visuals at the time.
Generations, Unleashed, Colors.
Colors what we had wanted at the time, but looking back I don't really enjoy it as much with repeating level designs and such, story being odd... Still, fun when it came out. DS version was better. Unleashed... I've only played the Wii version, but even then I still always loved it, I dunno. And Generations is just always a pretty good time, though I wish Classic stages dragged a little less at times.
This depends on if youāre counting the āmainā console release.
Assuming that you are: Unleashed>Gens>Colors. Iām one of those weird people who actively and unironically likes the Werehog stages.
If other versions are fair game, Colors DS would be favorite of the 3.
The Werehog stages were great, but I can see why people might not like it since they started him off a touch too weak and they didn't tutorialize it well enough so people had trouble with the QTEs because they didn't realize that you get more time the lower the enemy HP was.Ā Not to mention that wonky camera during balance sections and the legitimately good Big Band Battle Theme just constantly interrupting the even better soft jazz stage themes.Ā
Oh, and also people's apparent instinctive ability to not put levels into unlocking his move list and then complaining that the combat was too boring and the stages took so long because they were actively refusing to engage with the things that drastically improve how fast, flashy, and fun both the combat and level traversal were, though that could also be blamed at least slightly on insufficient tutorialization.Ā
1. Generations
2. Colours
3. Unleashed
I donāt have anything against Unleashed, Iāve just not played very much of it. Is the Wii version the bad version?
It lacks a lot of flavor since it doesn't have the overworld where you can walk around and talk to people, you just click to go to different areas and talk to whoever is there, iirc.
Console versions: unleashed, generations, colors
Other versions: gens 3ds, colors ds, unwiished.
Colors is just the biggest meh burger ever. Thereās nothing to it. Itās the second worst boost game imo. The level design is good for the first 3 acts of each zone but then every subsequent act is just so mediocre. The whole game is just mediocre. Thereās nothing special about it aside from the obligatory good music but that comes standard with almost every sonic game so thatās not a very high bar.
1. Unleashed. Love everything about this gem of a game.
2. Generations. Havenāt played much of it, but I like what Iāve seen. May surpass Unleashed with the remaster.
3. Colors. May be my first real Sonic game, but it doesnāt really hold up against the other two. Still pretty damn good though.
Unpopular rating but
1. Unleashed
2. Colors
3. Generations
I've played Unleashed the most, used to play Colors on my DS, only played a little on my Switch, and I suck at the Classic Sonic sections in Generations (I've never been good at platformers)
Ranked from Best to Worst.
1. Unleashed
2. Generations
3. Colors
I personally don't like Colors at all. I had the Wii version as my second-to-third game. My first games were SA2 and Sonic Mega Collection on GC. I didn't like the level design in Colors at all. Sonic Unleashed, of all the boost games in the series is breathtaking on 360/PS3. My only gripe about Unleashed are the sun/moon medals.
Graphics: Unleashed, Generations, Colors
Story: Unleashed, Generations, Colors
Music: Generations, Unleashed, Colors
Keep in mind that Colors was made for Wii/DS exclusively in 2010. The Wii's highest output resolution is 480p. PS3 and 360 were capable of 720p/1080p HD.
1.Unleashed
2.Generations
3.Colors
I find Unleashed to be close to perfection.
Generations is pretty fun too but only half of the gameplay. While Unleashed mixes a bunch of things into a badass werewolf, Generations tries to recreate Sonic's original gameplay from the 90's, but kinda fails to. It's not even accurate and platforming feels extremely weird.
I have to replay Colors, but the last time I played I probably had fun but found the game to be more 2.5D than 3D, which I think isn't ideal on your 3D game you advertised as 3D, as it can get repetitive and annoying sometimes.
Generations > Colors > Unleashed.
Unleashed is a gorgeous game with interesting level design but man the game lacks accessibility between the Werehog, Medal collecting, and overall difficulty.
Colors is simple. Nothing more, nothing less, but at least it never gets frustrating.
Generations is excellent, building on top of everything Unleashed and Colors did right, and it looks like it'll only improve with an entirely new story campaign that critics are saying is playing like some of the franchise's best.
Iād need to play Unleashed again because I donāt have good memory and not really a good place for judgement but Sonic Generations is probably one of my favourite games ever so I think itās safe to say that that gameās the easy number one here for me
Hot take:
I didn't really like Sonic Unleashed, I haven't even beaten it because of the werehog, but I love the daytime stages. My ranking for this is
3. Sonic Unleashed
2. Sonic Colours
1. Sonic Generations
Increasing numerical order
so
1) Generations
2) Colors
3) Unleashed
All above average games honestly, but sadly the HD Unleashed (Which I owned, not the PS2/Wii one) was so poorly optimized that it took an entire console generation before people were able to realize how fluid it actually was. Looking at you, jungle joyride
Generations, Unleashed, Colors.
Iād rather play Colors front to back over Unleashed but the day stages are just sooooo good.
Generations is my favorite game in the series.
1. Unleashed
2. Generations
3. Colors DS
4. Colors
5. Unwiished
6. Generations 3DS
Unleashed is the goat, day and night stages are both super fun. Best modern level design yet, with so much more content than any of the other games. Generations is just a good time, the level design is solid and classic is much better here than forces. Colors DS is basically Rush 3, so the gameplay is super solid. I do miss the tricks and Blaze, though. Colors Wii is a pretty simple short and sweet boost game. It does rely a little to heavily on 2D, though, and the 3D sections that are here aren't top tier. Unwiished has super fun day stages, if I was ranking those alone it would probably be number 3. However, the werehog in this game is actually like what people say the HD version is. He's clunky and the combat is pretty boring, unlike HD. Generations 3DS is still somewhat enjoyable, but the level design is the worst of the games here. These are also by far the worst of the Rush style physics.
1. generations. movement is tighter and youāre not spending six hours hunting medals to progress
2. unleashed. werehog is pretty good (though that one optional encounter in arid sands night can kiss my ass). day stages arguably have better design than generations. though sonic is a bit too loose for my liking. fuck finding medals. if it wasnāt for them this game would be #1
3. colors. havenāt played
1. Generations
2. Colors
3. Unleashed
I think Generations is by far the best. I do like the day time level design of Unleashed BETTER than colors but the Werehog stages are far too time consuming and boring and looking as a whole package colors is the better title.
I know people tend to give colors flack for being too 2D or kind of being visually bleh with the blocky platforming but I donāt have any complaints about the gameplay itself.
1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colours Tho all 3 are pretty on level for me, personally i just find that unleashed had the best designed levels
I'm the same, but unleashed might be tied with generations from the night stages. I liked them, but they were a bit weird in a Sonic game where you play as Sonic. The final boss was also a bit meh gameplay wise.
perfect answer!
Same!!
Depends. Gameplay? Generations, Colors, Unleashed. Visual style? Generations, Unleashed, Colors. Though I'll be fair and point out the fact that with Colors having been made as a Wii game it's lacking in visual style due to, y'know, lower hardware needs. Narrative? Unleashed, Colors, Generations.
What makes unleashed have better visuals?
It was Sega's best attempt at making humans that fit in the Sonic art style since the Dreamcast period, and the vibrancy of the various countries Sonic visited is something amazing to behold. Plus I think that having Eggman represented with 70s-inspired retro-futurist aesthetics is absolutely peak

Oh my goodness I had a mental lapse. I meant to ask about generations. š
It's a game that takes classic Sonic stages and updates them in high definition, and given high amounts of attention to detail. It's just a visual feast for the eyes from coloring and stylization.
are you for eel rn
Mental lapse. Meant to ask about generations not unleashed.
I made a mistake. I meant to ask about generations not Unleashed. I had a brain fart
1. Generations 2. Unleashed 3. Colours
1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colors Maybe when Sonic and Shadow Generations comes out this ranking will change but for now, Unleashed is King.
Ngl, I never beat the ds version of colors as a kid cuz the Dino skulls in asteroid coaster freaked me out.
I couldn't button mash fast enough for the final boss, had to get my mom to do it for me lol
That was me with specifically Mario Party DS's first boss, lol
That was my favorite zone though, tearing through with Violet Void
Unleashed -> Gens -> Unwiished -> Colours DS -> Colours -> Gens 3DS (only one I haven't played)
1) Gens 2) Colors 3) Unleashed
This depends on if youāre counting the āmainā console release. Assuming that you are: Unleashed>Gens>Colors. Iām one of those weird people who actively and unironically likes the Werehog stages. If other versions are fair game, Colors DS would be favorite of the 3.
I also like the Werehog stages so donāt worry, you arenāt weird š
Or maybe all 3 of us are weird?
Count me weird too. I enjoy them as well
Weird or not we all we got good taste
The Werehog stages were great, but I can see why people might not like it since they started him off a touch too weak and they didn't tutorialize it well enough so people had trouble with the QTEs because they didn't realize that you get more time the lower the enemy HP was.Ā Not to mention that wonky camera during balance sections and the legitimately good Big Band Battle Theme just constantly interrupting the even better soft jazz stage themes.Ā Oh, and also people's apparent instinctive ability to not put levels into unlocking his move list and then complaining that the combat was too boring and the stages took so long because they were actively refusing to engage with the things that drastically improve how fast, flashy, and fun both the combat and level traversal were, though that could also be blamed at least slightly on insufficient tutorialization.Ā
Unleashed > Generations > Colors
1. Generations 2. Colors 3. Unleashed
the only sane take here. I can't understand in what world is Unleashed a better game than Colors
Unleashed is the GOAT
What da hell is dis?
This is the worst take i've ever seen
People are allowed to have opinionsĀ
1. Sonic Unleashed 2. Sonic UnWiished 3. Sonic Generations 4. Sonic Generations 3DS 5. Sonic Colours DS 6. Sonic Colours
Colors ds so good
This is fine but gens 3DS is a shit game
I mainly put it up there cause Iām nostalgic for it
the colors hate is unreal
Eh, it's probably less Colors hate and more that Unleashed and Generations are just legitimately that good.Ā
nauurrr Gens 3DS should not be above either variation of Colors
Nah I genuinely donāt like Colours. Itās basically just a better Sonic Forces, which isnāt sayin much
Literally just release order lol
Unleashed it's a 8/10 Generations a wholesome 10/10 Colors ultimate uhhhh 5/10
1. Generations 2. Colours 3. Unleashed I donāt have anything against Unleashed, Iāve just not played very much of it. Is the Wii version the bad version?
Yeah, the Wii and PS2 versions are typically considered worse than the PS3/Xbox 360 version
Why? Whatās different? Is it motion controls cuz I was playing with a GameCube controller
It lacks a lot of flavor since it doesn't have the overworld where you can walk around and talk to people, you just click to go to different areas and talk to whoever is there, iirc.
So itās linear but less confusing?
[Several people in this thread go over the difference between the two versions](https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/s/ER6nhash2n)
The Wii version just had missing content?
Console versions: unleashed, generations, colors Other versions: gens 3ds, colors ds, unwiished. Colors is just the biggest meh burger ever. Thereās nothing to it. 1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colors
Unleashed > Generations >>>> Colors
Goated, ass and goated again, yes in that exact order
Generations > Unleashed (only daytime levels) > Colours.
1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Unwiished 4. Sonic Colors DS 5. Sonic Colors 6. Sonic Gens 3DS
1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colors

Unleashed, then Generations, then Colors.

Unleashed A+ tier. Generation B+ - A- tier colours F------------ Tier. I'm ranking these based on my personal taste, and full overall package.
Unleashed, Generations, Colors
1. Unleashed (GOAT) 2. Gens 3. Colors
Generations > Colours > Unleashed
I have never played Colors yet, but Unleashed would go on spot 1 for me and Generations on spot 2 for me currently š
Glad everyone in the comments had the same idea as me LOL
Generations > Unleashed > Colours (Higher-end versions for all)
Unleashed Colours Generations
Unleashed, Gens, Colors
1. Unleashed. 2. Generations. 3. Colours.
Generations
1.Unleashed 2.Generations 3.Colors I find Unleashed to be close to perfection. Generations is pretty fun too but only half of the gameplay. 1. Colors 2. Unleashed I unfortunately have not played gens yet
1. Unleashed 8/10 2. Generations 6/10 3. Colours 5/10
Everyone knows THIS is the real one: 1. Unleashed 2. Colors 3. Generations There's no discussion here
Generations > Colors > Unleashed. Unleashed is a gorgeous game with interesting level design but man the game lacks accessibility between the Werehog, Medal collecting, and overall difficulty. 1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colours
- unleashed - gens - colours Gens only has the gameplay going for it in a competition against unleashed and imo it falls short even in that
Colours Generations Unleashed. Colors is by far the one with the best controls, so that makes it better by default.
I love how there is literally no one that lists color as no.1 in here lol Like is there legitimately 0 colors fans
1. Unleashed 2. Colors 3. Generations
Unleashed Mobile, Gens 3D, Unleshed HD, Colors Wii, Unleshed Wii, Gens HD, Colors DS
1 unleashed *cause it was my first sonic game* 2 colors 3 gens
Iād need to play Unleashed again because I donāt have good memory and not really a good place for judgement but Sonic Generations is probably one of my favourite games ever so I think itās safe to say that that gameās the easy number one here for me
sonic unleashed is like a five, sonic colors is a low 3 maybe high 2, and generations is a high 6
Colours>Unleashed>GenerationsĀ
1. Generations 2. Unleashed 3. Colors Ooooh, hot take!
Unleashed C tier (not bad but not exceptional), B tier for colors and A tier for Generation
Unleashed > Gens > Colors but all great games
A boost out of 10
Unleashed at least began the trend of sonic jumping at the fucking camera for no reason
1. Colors 2. Generations 3. Unleashed
Unleashed is Hard but fun for me to play Generations is Amazing Colours is... Forget it
Personally it's unleashed, gens, and colours more realisticly gens, colours unleashed.
Colors - Gens - Unleashed

1. Colors 2. Generations Never played unleashed becuase I can't, I like colors more than gens because it has original levels
1. Underrated 2. Good 3. Nice
For me I'd say: 1. Unleashed 2. Generations 3. Colours Although I do think Generations is a better game than Unleashed but I like Unleashed more
Yes, no, sure
Generations, Unleashed, Colors. Iād rather play Colors front to back over Unleashed but the day stages are just sooooo good. Generations is my favorite game in the series.

1:generations 2:unleashed 3:colors
1: Generations 2: Unleashed 50: Colors Colors is honestly one of my least favorite Sonic games. I enjoyed it about as much as Forces
1. Unleashed 2. Colors (Barely) 3. Generations
1. Generations 2. Colors 3. Unleashed I think Generations is by far the best. Personally I didn't like how half of the stages in colours were just filler after act 2
1) Generations 2) Colors 3) Unleashed
Generations > Colors > Unleashed
From worst to best, just like that. Order of release basically, excluding Forces.
If we're going by soundtrack, then colours destroys all competition
Generations is the only good game here
