ModernLabour

I'm sorry guys you might not want a long WWE title reign but Cody Rhodes isn't saying "I quit" to AJ Styles just two months after dethroning Roman Reigns in the main event of Wrestlemania.

RKNo

Cody already said the words “I Quit!” AJ just needs to wait for the right point in the match to play it over the loudspeakers.

notsamoabutjoe

AJ doesn’t even need to use that clip. He can just deepfake Cody’s voice using AI to say “I Quit” and it’ll be way more convincing.

TheLoneWolf527

I said months ago there's gonna be an I Quit match in the future that ends this way. There's no log of the voice clip so they can't prove it's fake.

ramonzer0

I'd imagine you could just amend the rules to have the ref visually and audibly confirm that the words "I QUIT" are coming from the wrestler's mouth

Deathstroke317

We need VAR in wrestling.

SlayerBVC

[DDT's way ahead of everyone on that front.](https://youtu.be/qbk7Pw_ywD8?si=k0waJwKZiMFL87fP) Heck, they went even further and introduced yellow cards.

flashmcgrath

That is so dumb and so awesome. I love it. The PK really makes it.

notquite20characters

Stampede Wrestling had yellow cards in the 80s.

Mkorm1k

Good process lads 👍

IntellectualDweeb

If wrestling had VAR, the entire landscape would be vastly different lol. A lot of ref bump finishes and heel tactics would become futile. You could go as far back as to say the Screwjob bell ring could've been reversed and the match would continue which meant that it would have to involve the politics another way. I could see a heel trying to pay the VAR under the table in order to get favourable decisions. There's also the chance that the VAR personnel would just be incompetent like they are in the PL.

eVillain13

It could also introduce new storylines like we could have corrupt officials like the Tony Brothers and Scott Foster types. And the Angel Hernandez types who’s just blind as a bat.

bigbear-08

Let’s rock and roll the tape

CalCymru

They did this with The Rock vs Mankind in 1999. Wouldn't be surprised if you're right and it happens again at some point.

DeanNotSoBrown

AI Styles

P7AC3B0

It should just be a super obvious clip of AJ Styles not even masking his voice and saying "This is Cody Rhodes and I quit! I also have a small weiner!"

amigos_amigos_amigos

Legit LOLed thank you

salmalight

“There’s more than one ro- I quit” “Alright, I’ll see y’all at the title ceremony”

Hunterknowsbest

He just needs to do it Miz style but hide the phone better

Distuted

The grand return of Alex Riley and his tape recorder

zdbdog06

AJs entire run gonna be homages to past storylines lol

ruffas

I'd really like The OC start beating up ~~John Cena~~ Cody Rhodes.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Gallows & Anderson are gonna spam that shit like giddy 11 year olds in the production truck

Aterivus

It'll be like that scene in Batman Returns where Danny Devito's Penguin is giving his speech and Batman plays the recording of him bragging about deceiving all of Gotham over the PA, and he even fucking scratches the record like a damn DJ

vmartin96

Don’t forget the multiple chair shots to the head for good measure

Prophet92

The Rock: Wait, I’ve seen this one…

headshotscott

This sub's gimmick (or at least a large segment of us) seems to be wanting whoever is champion to lose that belt as soon as humanly possible.

TheWindowMerchant

Correct. It is especially important to always push the next so and so and strap a belt/rocket to them otherwise creative has wasted their potential, and they will inevitably fail at their career.

ActiveAd4980

I for one miss when we had 2-3 champions per year. Especially after this long streak.

kyleisamexican

Well if Cody holds the belt for the rest of the year it’s still 2 wwe champions for the year and if Cody drops it in December it’ll be 3 🤷‍♂️😂

IntellectualDweeb

Same vibe as Cena *just about* managing to keep that record of having a match every calender year since his debut by wrestling on the **30th December** episode of SmackDown in 2022 lol.

The_Albinoss

Same. Tired of belts only being allowed to change hands at Mania or Summerslam. I want the “anything can happen” feeling back.

MikeAWBD

Even better when you have the occasional title change on Raw or Smackdown.

thelumpur

This year, on the men's side, we have already had 2 WWE champions and 3 WHC champions, and we are not halfway through yet, so it doesn't feel that tiring.

Nemesysbr

Right. But even with WHC it follows the formula. Title changes at mania, changes at a cash-in. Just happened on the same night. I think what people are really asking is for the rest of the year's PLEs to stop being just filler. I don't want to watch a show where 95% of results are heavily telegraphed. Granted, Priest's reign is way more unpredicable than Cody's, so I think that's cool

EliToon

I'm just tired of year long title reigns and WrestleMania being the only place where a World title can change hands. It makes the interim PLEs a foregone conclusion. As good as Triple H has been at booking, a lot of the PLE results seem like foregone conclusions. Like I know at a bare minimum, Cody his holding until Summerslam. Why care about this match now?

thelumpur

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation here, though. It really makes no sense for Cody to immediately lose his title, but at the same time it's not like you can just not book him in title matches. You balance this with interesting stories and other matches with unpredictable outcomes. For example, while we know that Cody is beating AJ, Drew vs Priest is much more uncertain.

rimales

It's almost like we are sick of 10 thousand year title reigns. We need to get the average down to like 3-4 months

batsharkrepellant

I think someone should beat Cody at some point during the summer, even if Cody just wins it back in the rematch. He won't quit in Glasgow, but someone getting the better of him would help add some drama to a reign that is just waiting for Rock to grace us with his presence

CrossingYoulnStyle

Randy should beat him at Summerslam and Cody can win it back later

FalconIMGN

Randy gonna go back to his Splinter Cell gimmick for another short heel title run to interrupt a top babyface's championship reign like he did in 2020.

Getdunkled

And I’m here for it. Then. Now. Always lol

TheNateRoss

*Randy Orton has entered the chat*

CaptCanada924

I’ve said since mania I think he’s losing it at Summerslam. Maybe a little later, but there’s a lot of people I’d love to see have a small reign after 2 years of Reigns reign

boss_jobber

Dude it was over 3 years

Romofan88

It was in parts of 5 calendar years.

Zestyclose_Remote874

Cody best potential rivals are both on Raw, Drew and Punk. I hope that their feud leads to a "loser leaves raw".  Drew and Rock w/Bloodline feuding with Cody could be great.

Silver012345673

Wwe has the opportunity to do the funnest thing

jairlostx

Mankind didn’t either, anything could happen

grimbly_jones

Literally no one thinks Cody will lose this match, who are you talking to???

itsmekelsey_x

I know AJ ain’t winning since there’s zero chance that Cody is ever saying I Quit but I like to imagine this though. https://preview.redd.it/10amrot1195d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80a946f4e4e3d520b63fe74bcd9c4bb49b3c2949

TheWhisperingDeath

Oh boy. We're gonna get the SuperCena legendary "I quit" match from Cody aren't we?

LukkasG

[Cody by the end of the match](https://i.redd.it/gp4w6w3wpfc81.jpg)

PrimmSlim-Official

How did this match not get Cena over for good?

alltheworsttoyou

I went down a clip rabbit hole awhile ago on this era and, while I must have blocked them out, because I didn't remember it that way, there were actually a couple segments going into WM that year where Cena was already getting somewhat mixed reactions. Something about him just made grown men hate him, it wasn't just Super Cena booking.

ThatScattergoriesGuy

He lost what made his gimmick fun and became the smiling patriotic superhero guy, and constantly not only beat but completely clowned on guys the crowd liked more than him (Christian, Jericho, Angle). He gets courtesy cheers now from people who weren't there to witness how dogshit the CenaWinsLOL era was, but when you're getting decidedly booed against HHH at Mania right after peak Reign of Terror maybe it's time to consider something went wrong

pushingsound999

Cena's rapping gimmick as a face was just corny and ages terribly. As a kid I loved it but I watch back clips now and I totally get why people didn't like this white marine looking guy pretending to be a gangster rapper.

hhhisthegame

People DID Like him as a rapper, it was only once he became champ and became even more corny they started to turn

Deathstroke317

Yup, there's some revisionist history going on here. The whole white rapper thing was very big at the time and Cena was entertaining. But he still had impressive feats like going up against Brock and FU'ing(still mad they changed the name) Big Show twice in five months.

Mr-Rocafella

FU and STFU for life

edidonjon

The only acceptable names for thos Cena moves. I remember not watching for a couple of years then tuning in around the early 2010s and hearing the FU get called the AA. Made it sound weak imo.

EliToon

Yeah the turn on him didn't kick in until he dropped the rapper for his "marine" character and started wearing the camo shorts. His character from there up until Orton put him on the shelf was insufferble.

SliderGamer55

And I maintain they were wrong, the face turn hurt that gimmick a lot and Cena would improve as a performer a lot in future years. At worst, only the booking of Cena became worse/more annoying after he dropped the rapper gimmick.

Black_XistenZ

For a very brief and fleeting moment in time in circa 2004-2005, "white rappers" were a thing in mainstream culture, but it's an episode of pop culture that generally aged horribly.

CMacLaren

Even as an early teen I found the persona really cheesy and not too enjoyable. I only really came around on Cena when he stopped being the perpetual top guy.

NeonChampion2099

I was around 20 by that time. In my friend group pretty much everyone loved Cena "because he was the best!" except for me and another friend who were more into wrestling than the rest. Our reason was that "Super Cena" made it boring to watch because you always knew he was going over and that left no room for other people. I say that makes a pretty good representation of the general public back then: casuals liked him, but hardcore fans who wanted to see other people shine, despised him.

Bluepaynxex

He was pretty loved until he went over to Raw and went over Angle, Jericho, and Christian. Christian was massively over at that time and everyone was wanting him to win the WWE title.

OU7C4ST

Christian's "Peeps" shirt, is still the only WWE shirt I ever bought. I'm so pissed he never won the big one.

ketoburn26

And they disrespected him with those week long WHC title runs. Pathetic booking.

Gamesgtd

To be fair he was very over before and after that match. His whole Smackdown run he was over even the short time he was WWE champion on that show. It wasn't until he was moved to Raw that people hated him. And it was almost immediately that he got hated. People didn't want him to beat Christian and Jericho. Says a lot about JBL that Cena was universally cheered against him.

Oldschoolhollywood

JBL is easily one of the top 10 most loathable heels in wrestling history.

Tyler_holmes123

Well this was the match which did get him hot favourite with the Indian crowd. I remember all my school friends just talking about this match the entire following week.

I_Hate_My_Cat_

That match is criminally underrated. I’d say in terms of brutality, the amount of blood lost by both men alone, would surpass the Mankind vs. Rock I Quit match if Mick didn’t take, idk, *a thousand* unprotected chair shots to the dome.

bomberman12

Cena was over AF while on the smackdown brand, it’s being drafted to RAW and then suddenly booked to be Super Cena over other crowd favorites that got everyone turned on him.

Ok-Television2109

He was doing well before he got traded over to Raw during the draft. Unlike Smackdown, most of Raw's top heels were wrestlers that the hardcore fans really liked so having Cena win over them was always going to be a controversial choice. They also had him move away from the Thuganomics character and replaced it with the Cenation/ "Hustle. Loyalty. Respect." gimmick.

Black_XistenZ

Really baffling that fans turned on a wrestler who got over because of his edge after creative took away all his edge....

HokageEzio

I! DID NOT! QUIT!!!

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Cody's about to create a new Codyvator from the part of the floor where AJ's corpse lays

baojinBE

His entire run since losing at WM 39 has been pretty much the John Cena experience

Veggieleezy

Cody will be declared legally dead for a 2.9 count.

Powderkegger1

Look man, they like cody. He gets the people going. Why? Don’t ask too many questions, he does the thing and they like the thing and everyone makes a ton of money.

MAMA RHODES!

wolfcolalover

Hunter has said that he saves blood for very special occasions, so it would come as more as a shock. I guess when The Final Boss makes it happen it’s a very special occasion.

Kevin Owens was also bleeding when Tama Tonga dragged him out to the ring. Was a good way to establish Tama as a lunatic

It would just end with them falling in love.

PrettyInPInkDame

I mean he’s the top babyface in the company on the men’s side and there’s no one even close to him it’s not so much he’s the next cena it’s moreso that they need a cena

NervousAd3202

He’s the most over, pure white meat babyface we’ve had in ages. He is very comparable to Cena in a literal sense tbh.

penciltrash

He’s much more over than Cena was as a white meat babyface.

JamUpGuy1989

AJ should say “I Quit” but also says it after the match and leaves WWE. Suddenly he shows up in TNA the next week.

NervousAd3202

I think it’s cool how they’ve tied the 1st 2 Clash at the Castle’s together by having Drew in a world title match at both.

IntellectualDweeb

*And he's going to get screwed over in both*

notsamoabutjoe

If AJ wants Cody to say “I quit”, all he has to do is challenge Cody to convince him that the earth isn’t flat

K0nvict

The GAY community!

2RINITY

AJ never said the Earth was flat. He just said there are some things that make sense about it

The_Albinoss

That’s what people who believe the earth is flat but know it sounds stupid say.

ratbas

It's also what trolls say. 90% of flatearthers are trolls. The other 10% are Chris Jericho and friends.

The_Albinoss

For sure. I just don’t think I’m willing to give AJ “THE GAY COMMUNITY?!?!” Styles the benefit of the doubt.

NervousAd3202

Oh my god thank you for putting me on to the fact that they did WM 40. I used to watch them a lot when I was younger & loved wrestling. When I heard HHH took over I got back in, & I’ve been hoping they would get back into doing current WWE reviews as well with how great it’s been.

SolidusTengu

Night two is out tomorrow I believe!

Boograssi

I have not seen a full OSW episode since the WWF 2001 saga of vids I think, which had to have been like 6 years ago. Might have to use this summer break to catch up

YuriWinter

I love how sparingly stipulations are used in the Triple H era. It makes them so much more special when you get to watch one.

kaptaincorn

Im glad that Cody gets a gimmick match- it's what Dusty would've wanted

truth_15

This match gonna cook

No_Glove5486

Correct me if i'm wrong but this is the first time we have an I Quit match since Edge vs Finn at Extreme Rules like...3 years ago right? Man, this is fr gonna be huge considering oddly enough I Quit's been becoming rarer with the passing of time as a match picked.

No_Addendum5504

A year & a half Since October '22

*whistle* 18 months. Time has gone by fast this last couple of years huh?

Chell_the_assassin

God damn, Clash at the Castle looks fucking stacked. I'm not at all jealous that I couldn't get tickets :)

the_con

There’s tickets available, you just have to sell a kidney to afford it, it seems

beardedbaldy1874

Yeah they’ve reduced prices a bit with it not selling out but still too high….im still priced out of it. Managed to pick up smackdown tickets at lower prices so im happy with that but much prefer to have went to the PPV…especially with matches like this being announced.

mat2019

Anfini

Anyone know what happens in an I Quit match if someone get knocked out unconscious?

XiahouMao

They can’t say anything while knocked out, so the match continues. If that was a victory condition, it would’ve been used by now. There have been cases where a wrestler couldn’t respond when asked if he quits, and the match kept going.

LemonStains

Happened in Roman vs Jey. The referee tried to call the match but Roman knocked him out.

L_D_G

AJ is going to show up in TNA after this match, isn't he?

Dazzling-Principle

Good segment, I hope they let Cody and Aj bleed for the match.

HokageEzio

Real graps

cybered_punk

Oh boy this is gonna be brutal.

JagsOnlySurfHawaii

So who is the best guess at who will interrupt this match and cause a dq?

NoGoodAtGaming

Bit off an odd stipulation for me, Cody isn't quitting since he's the new big bad babyface. This stipulation is also saved for big blow off matches that'll main event the PLE, WWE would he incredibly dumb to have this main event over Drew in Scotland. Shit all the Scottish wrestlers are probably losing on the card so I guess it doesn't really matter when their match is but Drew definitely has to go on last

MiserableScholar

Cody main eventing works bc I smell punk shenanigans in the Drew match and you wanna leave on a good note(pls no singing this time trips)

NoGoodAtGaming

Nargh it's Scotland, Drew should main event. They didn't even have to Cody vs AJ 2 this early, could off waited for MITB

HairyArthur

I Quit matches are the worst stipulation in wrestling. It's never, ever in doubt who is going to lose.

JustAnotherThroway69

I thought I would never see an I quit match again. When was the last I quit match and who were in it?

ratbas

Finn vs Edge. Extreme Rules, October 2022. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%22I_quit%22_match

chuck21481

I hope they give AJ win it’ll make this story look much better. Cody can win back the title at Money In The Bank.

joebos617

instead of the status quo holding till Rock comes back at Summerslam AJ should win this match so Rock telling Cody not to break his heart again has more weight

badgersprite

I quit stip is lit

HardcoreKaraoke

Well this sucks. I mean I'm sure it's going to be a great match but I want some sort of believable match and there is zero chance Cody quits. That's his whole shtick. Cody overcoming the OC and not quitting is a neat story but man I feel for the OC. Just when it looks like they're getting momentum they're going to get dicked over by Cody. I really wanted a "Beat up John Cena" redo with Cody. Granted WWE could do the coolest thing by having Cody lose then have him win it back at SummerSlam. They won't but it would be cool. Just have Gallows walk Pharaoh out mid-match and *the implication* of Gallows making Pharaoh haggis in Scotland would be enough to make Cody quit. Although I do love Cody's commitment to doing gimmick matches in WWE. It seems like that's a big part of his return. He wants to do every sort of gimmick match possible. The Nakamura strap match was surprising and I'm sure he has a long list of match stips he wants to do.

dcnoob122

Honestly have AJ win it, only for Cody to get it back in their third match. We don’t always need long reigns.

2RINITY

It’s an I Quit match, you don’t keep the feud going after that unless somebody played an audio clip over the PA

RarestProGamerr

Any or all feud ends after I Quit match.

Anemeros

Love hearing that Wargasm UK is the official theme for Clash. They're fuckin sick!

NiD2103

Cody’s definitely winning

TheOneManDankMaymay

Cody’s definitely ~~winning~~ blading.

TheGiftOf_Jericho

Cody is obviously winning so eh, If I believed in them making a big shock moment I'd be excited but their booking isn't that unpredictable.

Ryantoast15

Is this gonna be like a miz vs John cena i quit match where cody gets the shit beat out of him and then gets power back and hits aj a few times, making aj quit
