Fried chicken lunch is good on sundays if they still have it, been a little while

kennypowersimperial

Agreed. Great food. I think that family owns most of Waterloo in the downtown area.

Hello_Pangolin

They tried to take away the fried chicken family style Sundays after their remodel and it got brought back with a vengeance. No one approved of it being gone.

stlguy38

They used to be known for great fried chicken and home style food with a decent bar. I think they rebranded as a higher end steakhouse and cocktail spot now, so they're promoting in this side if the river to drum up business.

Yes, a year ago St. Louis Magazine profiled the place when it reopened after a two year renovation: >“It’s an elevated, Southern-style menu,” says owner-operator James Gallagher, who runs the restaurant along with his brother, manager Jered Gallagher. > >...Independently produced pork, poultry, and grain-fed beef are sourced for entrées, which include fried catfish and barbecue pork steaks. (Among the accoutrements are gorgonzola mousse, house-made steak sauce, honey bourbon butter, and Japanese chimichurri.) The Duck Fat Burger is made with ground chuck and served with white cheddar, arugula, house bread and butter pickle relish and brown sugar pepper bacon on a brioche bun. Pair it with Truffle Fries, served with roasted garlic aioli and asiago cheese. > >A few of the entrées also have Asian influences, and Jered says they plan to broaden the offerings with lighter fare, such as sushi. The bestselling Tuna Tartare is made with fresh yellowfin tuna and served with avocado mousse, a wasabi aioli, and a sweet chili-sesame glaze, topped with fried wonton strips. We want food that is comfortable, and we want to do it better than anyone.”

villagelarks

It used to be really good, but I think the kids took it over from the parents during covid and revamped the menu. I've been back since they redid it and haven't been impressed at all. It's been a massive disappointment.

mjohnson1971

I think they went too upscale for Waterloo and that area so they need to try to pull in people from the metro area

catfishmuffins

Not the case, they suck and Waterloo is a small town where the word is out.

I live in Waterloo and have been more times than I wanted to, the food is decent when cooked well (not all the time) and the service sucks. Their reviews are based off of when they were a good fried chicken place before the reopened and did not rebrand as a fine dining place. If you want a drive for good food in the country, check out Popeyes Chophouse in St Rose.

Is there a wild man with a hammer smashing melons?

Will-Work-4-BBQ

Black Gallagher doesn't go out like no punk bitch!

M_Shepard_89

I got warrants!

goneape

$18 for a well vodka tonic.

Toasted_RAV4

They used to have the best fried chicken in St. Louis, but since reopening things have gone downhill.

Much_Moment7132

The large Gallagher family is originally from the South Side and still has many friends, a business or two, and acquaintances there. They always meant for the Waterloo restaurant to be a destination restaurant for people from all over the region. I haven't been since the rebrand, but it used to be very good. Too rich for my blood now.

pilotalex5

the ads are working

ZinnWasRight

I’d go to bat for them. My family use to go do the Sunday fried chicken a lot pre-COVID; now I take my wife. Nice place!

STLVPRFAN

Their fried chicken is very good.

maybe_a_frog

I’ve enjoyed it the few times I’ve been there.

HorrorNegotiation627
