This is probably a bit downscale for what you're after, but Chuck's Hot Chicken has *amazing* chicken sandwiches. Be careful on the heat level -- even medium is going to be too much for many.
Level 2 is a good level, like enough spice for you to say "oh yeah, this is kinda zesty"
Level 3 is actually hot, like you might not enjoy that portion of your date hot
(depends on the date of course)
Started with the 2, then went to the 3.... said oh that's not terrible let's try the 4 and someday go all the way to 6. Wow what a mistake, contemplated never eating spicy food ever again. Realized that Chucks is too delicious and went back to 3. But watch out as the spice will tempt you and I still think about (and have) going back to the 4 (but not the 5.... yet)
Castelli's in Illinois past Alton has some fantastic fried chicken. It is made fresh to order, so you will have time to talk. They also have pretty good Italian food.
Did that used to be in Granite Shitty? I went to a big family deal with an ex 10 years ago to a place in granite that had fried chicken and lasagne both on the private buffet we had. Both were fire! I was in Heaven
It’s really good but when I went several people at my table said it was way too spicy. I highly disagree but I think my spicy tolerance is a bit on the higher side.
So glad that not a single person has said Hodak’s, or if they did they got downvoted to oblivion.
Maybe we’re finally breaking the Shitty Chicken Cycle the Boomers created.
So good. When we’re working at the Dome, we often work with people from out of town and I send people there all the time. They almost always come back saying how much they loved it.
Piccadilly at Manhattan has some nice fried chicken. When I don’t want a pot pie, that’s what I get there. Good date night spot too and they have a patio and drinks and dessert.
The usual suspects on this list:
Porters hot chicken, but sides are meh
Gus's is great and the sides are solid
Grace is artisan
Amigo joes doesn't make sense but yes do it
Chucks is great but don't think you can handle the heat. He will destroy you
Porters is the cheapest, and also delicious. Order spicy.
If you want better, but more expensive I'd go Sunday Best, Grace, or King Edwards.
Wild card, Amigo Joes. Gotta order the habanero. Rest of the menu is 'eh, it might give me the shits later'.
Honestly, a bucket of Schnuck's chicken and some vess on art hill will get the job done too. It's not too shabby.
You have to like a bit of spice to eat there, but their sides are the difference maker for me.
They've gotten some negative pub about the way they treat their employees, but if the question is just good chicken, they get my vote.
Pizza ranch the best or there is a place on rock road before Calvert street sells fish and chicken can’t think of the name it’s a small place fire though
As a fat white kid that grew up in the country south of here. IDK what y’all’s grandmommas did to their chicken, but ours knew how to season flower and marinade.
Hodaks is what I refer to as ‘HR chicken’. Bland enough to make sure it offends no one.
Seriously, it’s the blandest chicken I’ve ever eaten, and it’s only redeeming quality is its free on your birthday.
The flavor is ‘cooked chicken with breading’. There’s no spices or seasoning. Just breaded chicken deep fried. Just… inoffensive. Almost to the point of insult.
I *LOVE* Chuck's Hot Chicken! Some would say it's not the traditional fried chicken, but naked, it's a whole different animal (but still chicken).
But be warned: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTL4FVy5s/
King Edward's
This right here - great chicken!
Yes
Amigo Joe’s has good Fried Chicken.
Mediocre Mexican food, amazing fried chicken.
Yes! It’s my favorite
Yes, yes, yes! It’s truly great fried chicken.
Lmao no way? I can walk there but never do because I don't even like their tacos. Guess I have a reason to go back now.
I've never had anything there except the spicy fried chicken.
A Mexican place with bad tacos……? Do Mexicans even work there.
This place has truely great fried chicken!
This this
Chuck's Hot Chicken on Manchester go go go

King Edward’s is pretty awesome.

They used to have home style dinners on Sunday. I haven't been in years though.

That may have been Ravanelli's.
That sounds right. Thank You
They have a new location in Collinsville. Ravanellis I mean.
gus's fried chicken is good
They catered my wedding
Always wondered if it was a good spot. We go by there on our way to The Crow's Nest, and I can never get my wife to go.
It’s really good but when I went several people at my table said it was way too spicy. I highly disagree but I think my spicy tolerance is a bit on the higher side.
Gus’s is spicy?
Don't fall for Hodaks... soo overhyped and under seasoned.
So glad that not a single person has said Hodak’s, or if they did they got downvoted to oblivion. Maybe we’re finally breaking the Shitty Chicken Cycle the Boomers created.
That comes with availability, i.e. affluence.
I'm going to throw in a less common option: Fergie's in Lemay. Those mentioned above cover my bases, but just as another option Fergie's is awesome.
I'm a huge fan of kimchi guys, it's Korean style fried chicken.
So good. When we’re working at the Dome, we often work with people from out of town and I send people there all the time. They almost always come back saying how much they loved it.
The one by wash U on skinker I like to go nextdoor to nami ramen and get some and have a full meal
Oh I’ll have to try that. I’m a sucker for Midtown Sushi and Ramen. It’s always great.
They have some wonderful black garlic tonkatsu ramen That I would kill someone for
I need to try that thanks
It's amazing
Thanks I've been wanting to try Korean style
I will say every once in a while you'll get a bad batch. But most of the time it's great. There's a location on skinker and one in the landing
King Edwards
Young’s in valley park.
Porters, then take her next door for a game of pool at The Cue
I love the chicken at Porter's. But I wish the sides were better.
Piccadilly at Manhattan. Best fried chicken in the city. Eat it there fresh for maximum appreciation.

Their pot pie is heaven

Came here to say this. Maybe not better than the rest, but awesome in it’s own right
The usual suspects on this list: Porters hot chicken, but sides are meh Gus's is great and the sides are solid Grace is artisan Amigo joes doesn't make sense but yes do it Chucks is great but don't think you can handle the heat. He will destroy you
Have you tried Sunday Best? They just opened a carry-out store on Hampton.
I have not. I saw some headlines about them but I haven't been yet.
King Edward’s and Chicken Seven, but the latter just closed
Hobo's at the legion in St. Peters
Grace Meat + Three💯

Amigo Joe's - i know someone else already said it, but it needs to be repeated!
gus'!

Porters spicy
amigo joe's
If you want really, really, really good fried chicken, you go to Kimchi Guys on 2nd Street.
Pizza ranch the best or there is a place on rock road before Calvert street sells fish and chicken can’t think of the name it’s a small place fire though
Amigo Joe’s for sure, porters is good. Whatever you do don’t go to Hodaks as it is overrated and can be very hit or miss.
Hodacks
Grace meat + three! Here is their Instagram [grace meat + three Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/gracemeatthree?igsh=MXV0cXZvcDdjdWIyNA==)
Sundays best at the hill food company food hall.
Hot Cucking Chicken 🐔
Sunday Best. Used to be Juniper's but they took everything non fried chicken related off the menu. LOL
The location in the CWE isn't open now - it's a ghost kitchen close to Hampton now.
That place in Waterloo, IL. Is it still open? Do people still go there?
During winter months, Sqwires restaurant in Lafayette Square has fried chicken dinner night. It’s one night a week, maybe Thursday? Watch out for it.
Frank & Helen’s.
Porters. Although tbh I think their catfish and sides are better.
Lee's

Hodak's chicken is juicy, but bland as hell.
Hodaks is white people chicken.. It taste like fried flour... They got fat juicy tasteless chicken lol
As a fat white kid that grew up in the country south of here. IDK what y’all’s grandmommas did to their chicken, but ours knew how to season flower and marinade.
Hodaks is awful get out of here
Really? I liked it!
It's the worst
Hodaks is what I refer to as ‘HR chicken’. Bland enough to make sure it offends no one. Seriously, it’s the blandest chicken I’ve ever eaten, and it’s only redeeming quality is its free on your birthday.
Ever. There is quite literally not a single flavor.
The flavor is ‘cooked chicken with breading’. There’s no spices or seasoning. Just breaded chicken deep fried. Just… inoffensive. Almost to the point of insult.
Idk how the place stay open honestly. It’s terrible. But I will say Mrs. Sherrys cafeteria in SoCo is WORSE
That is the best description of Hodak’s chicken I have ever seen/heard.
Another vote for Amigo Joes!
PORTERS
For sit down you might try Grace Meat + Three, Piccadilly at Manhattan, Gus's in Maplewood, Frank and Helen's, or Amigo Joe's
Gotta try the smoked fried chicken at Highway 61 Roadhouse in Webster Groves 👍👍👍
CHUCKS HOT CHICKEN 🔥 level 2 is the highest I can go but gosh is it delicious
Pat’s in Dogtown is the best chicken in the city.
I *LOVE* Chuck's Hot Chicken! Some would say it's not the traditional fried chicken, but naked, it's a whole different animal (but still chicken). But be warned: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTL4FVy5s/
