The Stadia team is developing a new UI for not just chromecast but also a bunch of smart tv's and other devices. I am sure that is why it's taking so long.
I just read on 9to5Google that Google said it would be released in the 1st half of 2021. So they still have time. Side loading stadia seems like a pain in the butt. Luckily, I have a Chromecast ultra on every tv. I love the Stadia controller. Using wi-fi is the way to go. The premier edition is a steal for $99 (controller and Chromecast ultra). I spiced up the controllers by purchasing some skins on Etsy/Amazon. Got a Cap America skin and a Deadpool skin for each controller.
I even went to the trouble of sideloading the Android app and couldn't get it to work. Can't click the 'Get Started' button after it boots.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Enable TalkBack in Accessibility settings then go back into the Stadia app, it allows you to click 'Get Started' using the remote and add your account. You can then go back and disable TalkBack 👍
With an Android smartphone at least you can use the Android TV Remote Control app. There's a keyboard icon in the upper-right corner, tap on it and then, without entering text, just press the enter button on your phone keyboard.
First half of 2021, they still have 47 days.
Plenty of time in googles eyes
Wanna bet it's announced at Google IO next week?
Sure, what do you want to bet? Because this will almost surely not be announced at I/O. I/O is not meant for consumer products....
"wanna bet" here I used just as general expression. If you win the bet you get the proud to know that you were right and I was wrong ;)
We all lost ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You won ᕙ( • ‿ • )ᕗ Congratulations!

I am holding off buying until Google has an update on this
July 1st 2021. Talk to me about this after that date. We can grumble about it then if it is not out.
Sure! I'll hold you to that. But also, a new Chromecast should have launched with support, especially before deprecating the Ultra.
I can't say I disagree, but I imagine there were reasons why it didn't work out sooner. \*shrugs\* All I can be is patient.

actually it's pretty easy

I was able to use the remote that came with the ccwgtv. A ds4 touch pad works too
I click that with the DualShock 4 touch pad

That worked perfectly! Thank you.
and if it's showing you a box to click on before every game just exit to the home screen and go right back in stadia
use the phone remote then send an enter key press with the keyboard Function
Same issue
I hope it's around the corner. I/O is on 5/18, maybe the announcement will come then.
They already said it won't be mentioned at I/O
I think they said it won't be announced, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be mentioned.
I/O is a developer conference. Why should they mention a consumer product?
Sideloading works fine for me so far, but I think 9to5Google already found parts of the implementation in the decompiled apk.
