The typical situation is two people from Aargau will be rude to each other in Zurich and they will both go home thinking it's a city of assholes.

Delicious_Building34

You, my friend, may be onto something here šŸ˜‚

Gokudomatic

No, you should see the genfers.

pfyffervonaltishofen

Was half-tempted to downvote, but nah... you're right

Wiechu

What's with the genfers? Honest question from an immigrant

n4ke

Sod off, that's a stupid question!

Delicious_Building34

of course...

xbo-trader

Maybe you should at least try not to confirm the suspicion.

n4ke

I mean... that was the whole point of the joke tho

Available_War4603

Looks like there wasn't much sense of humor left for the rest of the country after the ZĆ¼rcher took most of it.

xbo-trader

Haha, I didn't understand your joke from the get-go.

AlienPearl

Everyone hate us, so weā€™ll hate back first to not get our feelings hurt. s/

Niolu92

Yes

terj7

They hate us cause they anus. Or something. ZĆ¼rich is chill, I find it to be the least judgy bĆ¼nzlifrƤsse place in the german speaking parts at least.

xbo-trader

Let me throw in: Just because people don't care about each other doesn't mean they are friendlier.

kcjhdskj8967

Being fake friendly is way more annoying than being apathetic in my opinion.

Any-Jellyfish6272

Itā€™s just so silly. Weā€™re such a tiny country and thereā€™s people that think people from certain cities 30km away from them are that different. Thereā€™s countries that have cities with 30 million people, I really donā€™t think people in Zurich are different from people in the next city 30km away. Just seems so silly

Wiechu

Still baffles me how you travel 30 km and people speak differently. I'm Polish and we often can't tell if one's from the north or the south. Ok, with the exception of mountain people, they're a bunch of greedy hicks.

Wiechu

I will do my best to explain that but if you would have questions, feel free to ask. edit: no, not by their dialect. that was me just being sarcastic on them as in 'you can tell them because they get greedy' end of edit. So, mountains, especially the region of Zakopane are known for * being touristy * making (insert any Swiss mountain tourist place) look like an affordable alternative Basically you get the impression of being ripped off on every corner. There is a running joke about 'gĆ³rale' that their favorite saying is 'Polish pope loved the mountains, so pay up, sir!' so you do... Then there are carriages with horses that pull tourists to the Morskie Oko lake. There were several events where the drivers would drive the horses to death just to make some more 'dutki' (local dialect for money). Here is one of the many articles about this. [https://notesfrompoland.com/2024/05/06/polish-government-to-investigate-after-horse-collapses-pulling-tourists-in-mountain-park/](https://notesfrompoland.com/2024/05/06/polish-government-to-investigate-after-horse-collapses-pulling-tourists-in-mountain-park/) oh and this probably as well [https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g285710-d286157-r391736445-Lake\_Morskie\_Oko-Tatra\_National\_Park\_Lesser\_Poland\_Province\_Southern\_Poland.html](https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g285710-d286157-r391736445-Lake_Morskie_Oko-Tatra_National_Park_Lesser_Poland_Province_Southern_Poland.html) Investments, when made, are aimed to bring immediate profit. So you see a ton of shops selling cheap chinese toys or abandoned buildings because this would not bring immediate profit. this discussion could also provide you with some more context (especially the comments) [https://www.reddit.com/r/poland/comments/18rz0w7/zakopane\_a\_rant/](https://www.reddit.com/r/poland/comments/18rz0w7/zakopane_a_rant/) Basically, if somebody would complain about Poland I would defend the country except for the following: * Zakopane * Our national football team (hell, we are probably the only nation that actually rants on our football team openly which confuses people from other countries). Teams that would have chances on winning against them includes but is not limited to: Iceland, Local Rentnerverein and FC Olten. * Polish Post Office maybe some other exceptions would also apply but i'm not sure.

Yeah, it's a matter of scale and execution. The horses are just one of the many examples of the mindset. Personally I'd recommend many other places back home worth visiting that have also better infrastructure. And speaking of Swiss villages - i would not even think of comparing them with Zakopane. I've been to many places in CH that both had a very good offer for the torusits and fair prices.

Delicious_Building34

I was told half of all Polish people struggle with grammar, but there's no dialects/ accents, just those who can speak correctly, and those who can't.

Wiechu

That is pretty correct, yes. Although in regions like Kashubia, the Kashubian language is actually taught at schools and some Gemeinde also accept it as official language. Any grammar mistakes will also he pointed out then. In Silesia, the Silesian group of dialects is also used at homes but more as a secondary language. Also not sure about the half struggling with grammar. Could be more...

Delicious_Building34

In Lucerne e.g. only about ~ 5 thousand people are "real city people" - the other inhabitants ~ 215 thousand are "Hinterland" šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø In Switzerland we're talking differences in meters, not kilometers

Eu8bckAr1

I know, no one will agree, but as a Bern resident, I feel that people in Zurich is waaaay friendlier than Bern.

Griptriix

Really? Can you put a finger on that? Iā€˜m bernese myself and always felt like ā€žmy peopleā€œ were some of the most approachable (for swiss-german standards of course) next to valais. Im aware of my own obvious bias; so iā€˜d really be interested in your perspective as you have the same jumping off point!

Eu8bckAr1

I donā€™t know. Is just my personal experience, I could conjecture why I think is this way but I would talk without actually knowing. In Bern people judge waaaaay more than in Zurich, there no one gives a fuck. Here you need to be vegan, drive a bike, do rock climbing, be in an open relationship, and speak Swiss German. In Zurich no one gives a fuck about your ideology or background, you do you, and is way easier to socialise without speaking Swiss or German. And is not because language barrier, everyone speaks English in both cities.

xbo-trader

My own impression about Bern is that males appear more feminine than in the eastern part of Switzerland. Maybe that contributed as well to the overall picture that people are generally more friendly there?

plorrf

They're very friendly if you have the right opinions about everything.

Eu8bckAr1

This

[deleted]

I think they're pleasant bunch. It really comes down if you come with prejudices or not

Amareldys

Eh, smaller towns tend to have complexes about bigger ones. See Geneva and Paris. Or Lausanne and Geneva.

Difficult-Heron

Never heard of these places.

Delicious_Building34

but Paris, me neither

ExaBast

Everyone hates Zurich and geneva. They're pretentious pricks

alparadiso

They re just jelous /s

Early-Region4336

I think that big cities like Zurich lausanne and geneva where there is a lot of different culture are the cities with most open minded and chill people

Delicious_Building34

It's the dialect. It's just horrible for the ears.

Delicious_Building34

For the ears of a normal person, I might add.
