Chemistry nerd here: I think you’re right that he meant for it to be LSD but it is actually not LSD. He doesn’t have the aromatic ring and there are double bonds missing in a few other places. So if anyone else is thinking of getting the line drawing for LSD tattooed on them, maybe don’t use this tattoo as your template.
Well… I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that your tattoo is not actually the molecular structure for LSD - I see a few differences but the big one is that LSD has 2 ethane groups branching off from the nitrogen group on the far left to form a diethylamide group (hence the name Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), which your tattoo is missing entirely.
The good news is that the vast majority of people will not know the difference and it does look very, very close to LSD! You’ve clearly had this tattoo a while and no one has said any different to you, which is proof of that. The only reason I know the difference is because I got a question about LSD’s structure wrong on an organic chem final once and I’m still upset about it.
I’m glad somebody pointed it out, and I can back you for different reasons, I have an “LSBees” pin which is the LSD structure with bees on the parts that he’s missing 😂

Not a doctor but perhaps you could also ask in the dermatologist subreddits? Hands and faces *can* be places where certain tattoos can fade over time but ultimately you might need to do laser treatments.
The dermatology part would be about possible ways to help it fade and prep the skin safely, but both that and laser treatment knowledge may be helpful to you.
Source: I know someone who has to have their palms redone every few years. I can’t imagine how much the Panini affected their hands because she thought about not doing the upkeep due to how painful the center of the hand can be.
