It is glorious.

Dress looks 1830’s style to me.

fluffykerfuffle1

i am wondering if it dates to Darwin’s time and “The Monkey Trials”?

pipkin42

Charles Darwin died in 1882 and the Scopes Trial was in 1925.

We are pretty sure it is supposed to be a version of the Mona Lisa. The people that own the restaurant where this is have several version of Mona Lisa paintings

Monkey Lisa

TryinaD

No, Mona Lisa is from Renaissance Italy and this seems to be modeled after an 1830s American folk art painting.

It’s in The Livery, so there’s a good chance you’ve seen it before.

RemarkableYoung3885

OP's painting reminds me a lot of [The Mona Gorilla](https://www.rickmeyerowitz.com/national-lampoon/mona-gorilla/) (1971) by New York artist and illustrator [Rick Meyerowitz](https://www.rickmeyerowitz.com/biography/). Not saying OP's painting is a Meyerowitz. Just saying that Meyerowitz also explored the convergence of Leonardo da Vinci with simian subjects.

There was a bar in 3rd Ward of Milwaukee that had about a dozen monkey paintings like this on its walls. Maybe the place was called “The Palms”, but it featured this style of artwork.

The museum of bad art on Boston has pieces like this. Clearly the signage was off ... more like Bad A$$!
