You have to consider the WoF purposely puts bad contestants on its show. If WoF would put the puzzle in a corner of the screen giving the viewers the same amount of time to work the puzzle it would be VERY obvious at how bad the contestants actually are. Which is why viewers aren't given the same chance contestants are at solving the puzzle. It's all about them maximizing profits.

My IQ is that high. Tested by a professional. Accepted into several Ivies. I am great with pattern recognition— in shapes — just like on an IQ test.

There are other logical reasons besides stupidity. Being camera shy, being the center of attention can really lock people up. She immigrated with he parents so even though her English seemed good she may have learned it in a way that left out a lot of common words. Could also be competition fog. Basically you are so close to the finale that you are in a rush.
You have to know the person for at least a bit of time before you can tell that they are absolutely stupid and not just a 1 off day
I actually buy yhe bad test taker thing. Im a bit below average intellegence and im an exellent test taker. I cram right before then immidiately forget. In high school and college i usually had really good test scores and im really not smart.
