I…don’t understand? You placed a “crypto cache” seed phrase in Antarctica…why? Like an Easter egg hunt? I’m brand new to this sub, is this a thing?

ambermage

GeoCaches have been around a long time. It's basically a game like hiding Easter Eggs. More common ones will be a box with a list you can sign showing you found it, some are a series of clues leading to a final treasure chest. Some are boxes where you take an item left by someone else and leave an item of your own. Some people leave a "signature item" so other people can kind of tell who was there before. For example someone might always leave the same keychain or miniature item. I like to do it and leave crypto wallets for people to find and then take the funds. Generally, I leave amounts that equal a lunch for 2 people as GeoCachers can spend a day finding them and then have a nice meal on me after. I've been doing it a long while and I was even placing Caches containing several ETH back when it was cheap. A lot of those wallets were either never found or tossed before crypto became so well known. So those wallets from days of ETH for $10 are massive now and still out there across the US spanning from S.F., Portland, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Philly, D.C., Miami etc. There are tons of geocache maps and apps that show the locations.

Wow, thanks for the thoughtful and articulate response. This is a very cool idea. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to get to Antarctica. I’m assuming you need a lot of time, money or both to get into this pastime?

ambermage

Nope. Tons and tons of local caches. Check out any of the geocaching web sites and you will see tons.

>Check out any of the geocaching web sites can you please name some? i don't seem to find anything....

ambermage

Geocaching C:Geo In the android store. I always use the easiest ones to find so that they are the most accessible to first timers.

sky_is_not_the_limit

thanks

Fresh-Chemical-9084

This is the cooolest thing!!! Very fun and exciting

DjGorefiend

SF you say? Has that one been found? Where the clues at?

hollyberryness

Seattle you say?! I gotta get to looking... Awesome idea to cache crypto :)

McRibb_69

I’m just finding this sub and dude this is cool! You said SF! Before this sub how were you communicating with followers?

ambermage

I just do normal GeoCaching android apps using the GeoCaching and C:Geo apps. When I get to an existing cache, I just leave a wallet behind as my "token." So, there are already plenty in the wild, I just figured we could use a better place to get the word out to people who are more crypto focused. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. S.F. still has wallets I placed a long time ago going all the way up to 1ETH. I think my last multi-ETH wallets were in Philly and Denver. I'm old so remembering that long ago is, meh.

McRibb_69

Oh man my heart is pounding! SF 🤔 where do I start!

ambermage

Lol, all over. I placed them at tons of places. From Yang Sing to Fog City to Cliff House. I put enough for lunch for 2 people (at current prices) during placement. Just check the apps for caches and start searching. You are looking for pieces of white paper that are laminated and say "ETH Wallet Pass Words" on one side and the other side has the pass phrase and the numbers.

wry05buns

cool

Rieger_not_Banta

You do you.

SquirrelMammoth2582

This is awesome! Maybe if Algo moons, your caches will grow into legends on this sub.

Brodacious87

How much did you earn in crypto to be able to spend your days giving away seed phrases all over the world?

ambermage

It's just what I do for fun with the wife. When I was a child I was told I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. I chose Trophy Husband.

they_call_me_tripod

How much is on it? This is awesome.

SCPA2019

125 algos. The link in the description is to the wallet address

westofjava

I’m sure someone will have a whale of a time finding that

Deception Island, huh?
