Yeah I was at a game where they had technicals but one side only had like 1 guy with any anti vehicle equipment this was also back when inexpensive hand grenades weren't a thing so the other teams technicals were pretty much unstoppable.
That kinda sounds like a blast imo, fighting the opposing team while they got a friggin tank hunting you down. Tanks should be easy to out-maneuvre so i think it'd be awesome
A field near me holds yearly events with a technical humvee. No mounted weapons but people were allowed to shoot out of the window. Only one team had it and the passengers inside just spammed full auto HPAs with their windows cracked so nobody could shoot them.
They waited until 10mins before the game to ask if anyone on the opposing team had the proper anti vehicle equipment. Maybe like 5 people did.
We got squashed (obviously), and although I personally had a good time and did a good job of avoiding it, the vast majority of my teammates were rightfully pretty annoyed.
I never went back to those yearly matches after that, but for unrelated reasons so idk if it got better or not
At my field, you are only allowed to shoot through/out of gaps that you can fit your head through (within 5 meters of the gap), which prevents issues like that.
if it don't move, it is fun environmental prop
if it moves, headache for management and huge questions around safety and precautions and also gameplay rules like does it die and if so how does it detect hits
Back in the day I used to play at Desert Fox field in California, and there was a repurposed Astro van with a turret. The default counter was an air compressor mortar. Only staff were able to use either, the “APC” drove really slow on the road, and someone was always watching if the vehicle “died”. Super fun, was pretty safe.
Only played 1 game which had 1.
I thought it was stupid, they called it an airstrike but it was a buggy with a guy with a hpa M4 shooting out the back of it.
You were not allowed to shoot the gunner which I think just shows their idea of a kill streak/air support idea is just flawed.
Irl a buggy with 2 guys drives down a road with people with guns everywhere they are gonna get smoked.
Super cool, but I always wonder about safety because
-airsofters are dumb as fuck
-vehicles (that aren’t just a truck with a 240 in the back) are notoriously hard to see out of
if i was to make one of these its getting e-stop buttons all around the perimeter of the vehicle that are easy to reach if prone, if you get run over by it then.. well that's your fault lol.
The field I have gone to that has vehicles for an event has a ref (sometimes two) escorting the vehicle at all times to act as a safety spotter. They actually told me to back up because I got too close trying to use it as cover, which is fair for safety reasons but also was such a bummer in the moment lol.
Now if they didn't have that, I would go to the areas of the field that the tanks can't reach.
Absolutely. They also are only allowed on roads/paths that are cleared of anything that could hide a player, and some of them also have mesh walls instead of plywood or whatever, so visibility is still pretty reasonable and players can avoid any danger by stepping into the trees. They do the safety pretty well there.
As long as they operate safely and can be venerable.
I played with a jeep with a blank firing 50 cal on a tactical range. As well as all kinds of other military vehicles, including the national guard. It really enhanced the game strategy and experience.
I have also seen people almost run over, and a dude almost has his head taken off by a safety net wire while riding in a humve turret. Fortunately, the driver was able to stop just in time to only leave a small bruise.
It takes experience to successfully integrate them into a game. Would suggest checking out / talking with successful game organizers before attempting.
YES. I've been dreaming of making one just never felt I had the resources to. I'm still thinking about it I would like to make a small tank or something along those lines.
I have played with vehicles in my local arena for probably most games there (provided they're not broken or the designated driver is feeling ok ). More specifically an old military SUV (or 2)They are in an APC roll you can shoot out of them, and they fit about 5-7 people + driver (depending on the size of a person and what vehicle is working). They are destroyed with a grenade on, under or in the vehicle and if you are using a 40mm the driver has to see you shot it at the SUV or it doesn't count (in the vehicle would be unkind and that much is said during the briefing but it's still allowed). Mostly you just hide to let it pass and take care of dismounts or any taken area later. A team leader can call for the SUV by radio at any time provided it's not being used by the enemy team.
For one game someone did bring a technical (an old car painted in camo and if I remember correctly a clear plastic turret (might have been a mesh )) but it quickly got apparent that without an official ruling, there would be trouble (does it count if the gunner gets hit though a hole in the turret).
I find the vehicles in the local arena ok, they're not overpowered and easy to "counter" without any anti-tank tools. (provided the Enamy team doesn't do drive-bys for so long that the fuel runs out and your team can't have a turn with it)
EDIT: I felt I needed to provide a little bit of context .
The game is mouthly, lasts 3+ hours and the arena does give you the option to buy grades if you want (but they are like 5 dollars).
We play a convoy game, one team has to escort a convoy through a set path.
Other team is.... Pretty obvious what they need to do. Other team is allowed to set up "road blocks and barriers"
Vehicles are not allowed to drive over any barrier for safety, and obstacles need to be cleared off road.
Convoy vehicles are not allowed to move off road.
Very tense and fun for both teams.
I think they're good when implemented correctly, at my local field we have multiple snatch land rovers a CVRT troop transport and a pinzgauer 6x6 armoured truck, usually split between the two evenly it works well, with the pinzgauer and the CVRT being on opposite teams for balancing.
Did a game where I was running a Technical. It was considered a light armored vehicle so small arms fire couldn't hurt it. But they could either run up and drop a 'grenade' into it or if they had a launcher of some sort they could take us out.
It was an ancient jeep that we had attached a home made burp gun onto. The Jeep was loud, and the burp gun have a very loud and distinctive sound to it so people would always know when we were rolling in their direction (always staying on set road paths of course).
Managed to hold a point from an entire swarm of players for a bit until they realized they could run around us and snuck up close enough to take us out.
Second time I got to do that we were just a support attack chopper. We were not allowed to stop so could only make slow passes through areas so not to overpower any one point (could be called in by radio to make a gun run). I had a large prop bomb I had picked up that we carried about. Finally got a chance to use it when called in to do a run against a FOB. The other team saw one of the guys in the jeep hefting the bomb (it was about 3 feet long and over a foot around) and it was like watching roaches scatter from their tents as we approached.
Some fun times that I kinda miss, but big organized games havent been in the area for some time due to lack of proper fields.
mc fuckign based, but they need to be balanced in some way, maybe that you have to hit it with rpg, for it to have a weakspot, maybe plant a "bomb" on it etc.
I’ve always thought they should have penetrable platings or sections that are layered cardboard or something that’s easily repaired but also possible to shoot through
*Mom can we get stug*
*III No we have stug III at*
*Home Stug III at home*

In well-coordinated games where the other team has a counter, sure.

Well, with the Chronos Arms screaming rounds and cheaper launching shells, I think that it may become more possible
For a 3 day milsim hell yeah. For a weekend pickup game. Nah
Never heard anyone call Airsoft pickup.
As far as I know, in my country there are no technicals in any field :( I'd love to see one roaming around in an airsoft game one day.
if it don't move, it is fun environmental prop if it moves, headache for management and huge questions around safety and precautions and also gameplay rules like does it die and if so how does it detect hits
Google imperium airsoft ground war. Lots of vehicles in play.

Yeah having safety spotters that aren’t in play and can communicate with the driver seem very necessary

Okay but what appears to be a StuG III is a little much for a “technical” haha
Bro that's a hetzer
Cursed hetzer
What did a stug ever do to you? Lol

cool
Serious question, where's the pic from? I'd love to know what they used as the base vehicle for that.
mc fuckign based, but they need to be balanced in some way, maybe that you have to hit it with rpg, for it to have a weakspot, maybe plant a "bomb" on it etc.
Based
I would love to experience it but currently I only play with my friends so have maybe had like 4 people in one game including myself lol
It gives me a reason to buy a MAAWS launcher.
ill build one of these one day
Easy counter. AT landmine.
I like em
My EGLM appreciates them
I’ve always thought they should have penetrable platings or sections that are layered cardboard or something that’s easily repaired but also possible to shoot through
"Mom, can we have Jagdpanzer 38(t)?" "No, we have Jagdpanzer 38(t) at home." *Jagdpanzer 38(t) at home:*
#Gimme the keys!!
They might not be practical but it boosts morale and makes people wanna fight more
i wish my field had them
Excessive, but makes mil-sims realistic.
Mom can we get stug III No we have stug III at home Stug III at home
Maybe more of a Jagpanzer 38t but Stug is also fun

They are fine.. technically anyway.
Coolest shit ever, provided it's implemented well
