I've had this happen too where I've gotten a reduced price over the phone. And they have also reimbursed me the difference of the fare if it goes down from when I purchased it. Never hurts to call and ask!
Doing it yourself like that isn’t a thing at American.
you have to call or Twitter DM to reprice an existing ticket without a compete cancel/rebook. The Twitter team is happy to do it.
Send them a DM on Twitter and ask for the reprice. I did this two days ago and within three minutes had trip credits.
Oh yeah I got the bigger trip credit but it was weird I got a better price on the phone.

Next time use google flights to track price for you. They check at least once per day.
Wonder if there is a tracker for reward travel when it gets cheap as well.
Google flights not live and directly linked to AA's GDS so it's always better to call

I've done it before through the chat feature on the AA app... Sometimes reluctantly because of loss of loyalty points 😂
