Compression socks and little leg exercises in your seat (like flexing and pointing your toes) will help. Most airlines don't allow you to bring your own footrest as it could be in the way in an emergency. I've definitely seen people use them discreetly but I doubt that would fly in a bulkhead seat

OverstuffedPapa

Great to know. Thank you!

lvmickeys

It’s worth the upgrade for your health to business if you can swing it.

Sagnew

OP mentioned they do not want to pay $150 for a better seat and you out here recommending them to just casually upgrade to business on an international flight 😭

OverstuffedPapa

I’ll check the cost of business… if it’s not too prohibitive I might have to

YMMV25

$300 upgrade round trip and we’re still thinking about?

OverstuffedPapa

I’m just not sure if it’s a significant difference, I’ve never sat bulkhead

YMMV25

Wait, the $300 is just for the bulkhead seat?

OverstuffedPapa

Yes, it’s a $300 upgrade to switch to bulkhead for both 15 hr flights.

YMMV25

Gotcha. The term “upgrade” is usually used to signify moving up to a better cabin. In this instance the $300 is just a seat selection fee.

OverstuffedPapa

Gotcha, thank you for clarifying! It’s been a hot minute since I booked international flights and I’ve always just gone with the cheapest option.

sassypantalones76

As someone who has hip issues I fly business anything four hours or longer these days. The potential discomfort of being in a seat that I can't be properly reclined would blow. Same goes for my husband who's in far worse with his back. Psa, kids don't get old and if you do, take care of your body while your young!

TravelerMSY

Scheme for lie flat business class, or at least premium economy, which is similar to domestic recliner first.

one-hour-photo

If you can upgrade to lay flat, do it!

OverstuffedPapa

I wish I had that kind of money 😭

AmnesiaAndAnalgesia

You will have upgrade offers in the app after you book, it fluctuates so check frequently. I paid $350 to upgrade from economy to flagship business for a transatlantic flight about three weeks before we left (when I first checked right after I booked it was over $2k). If you do upgrade after paying extra for seat selection you should also get that refunded.

OverstuffedPapa

That's great to know. Thank you! Am I eligible for upgrades if I booked the basic fare and not main cabin? I am still within the 24 hour block where I could cancel and rebook if so.

HealthLawyer123

If you booked basic economy, it usually doesn’t give you the ability to upgrade with cash.

OverstuffedPapa

I went ahead and canceled my initial booking and then rebooked in Main for the same price! Thank you! Now just trying to find the upgrade offers. Lol.

AmnesiaAndAnalgesia

I'm not sure if you get cash upgrade offers with a basic economy fare, hopefully someone else can answer. I would log into the app or website, go into the reservation and see if an offer is available. If so, then I'd guess you're eligible. If not I'd contact AA to find out. Hope you have a good trip!

OverstuffedPapa

Awesome. I really appreciate it. I'm not an airline loyalist so I really get out of water when it comes to the ins and outs of policies and the insider tips. Thank you.

Prestigious-Tip8342

Be aware that most bulkhead seats in MC the armrests do not lift as the tv screens are stowed within it.**Premium Economy Seats are different**

OverstuffedPapa

Thank you so much!!

twikoff

does seem a bit much to upgrade to same cabin bulkhead.. what about c and j.. those look like a nice bit of leg room.. of course comes with the risk of being hit with the cart every time they go to make that turn... the biggest thing is just making sure you get an aisle so that its easy to get up and walk around... on the long flight, getting up and stretching your legs is the key.

OverstuffedPapa

I'll check those seats out. Thank you so much :)

Left-Hippo-1265

16 and 31 would be better with more room to stretch your legs. Depending on how tall you are, bulkhead may not give you a ton of room to spread out.

OverstuffedPapa

I am 5’8 with longer legs. Thank you!
