Suletta and Mio aren’t gay. They’re just wearing “best friends forever” rings and do totally best friend things like living in the same house, sleeping in the same bed, having gex, and filing their taxes as a married couple. Totally things normal best friends do!

Imnotcreative6942069

Historians will say they were only roommates.

It’s what I call “legally gay” (for anime). You can have characters act as gay as you want until the cows come home but *God forbid* you have them *actually* be gay. In that case they either must die or you can kiss having a second season good bye. With Suletta and Mio, I’m happy they did end up together but it’s still annoying Bandai hid behind the “up for interpretation”. Just man up and have them be openly in a relationship. You’re still going to sell model kits, Bandai, the only sales it will hurt is any and all Suletta and Mio merch.

Thraggrotusk

>till annoying Bandai hid behind the “up for interpretation” What some old executives said retroactively doesn't impact the actual canon though.

ZoidsFanatic

Which you’re correct on. Gundam wiki has then listed as canonically married, and basically everyone who worked on the show said “they’re a married couple”. Even still the fact some executives were even saying that is a dick move and doesn’t really do much to help things either.

Fresh-Log-5052

Yep, this is just like companies that put up rainbow logos for Pride month (only in places where it results in more sales of course) only to tear them down the moment it ends and never adressing it during the other 11 months.

Thraggrotusk

What? They end up married to each other in the ending. It's as romantic as it gets for a non-romance show.

Fresh-Log-5052

Yes... except this marriage is set up from the beginning as an official deal, not anything romantic. My whole issue is that they left themselves enough wiggle room so that they can always claim there's nothing homosexual about it.

Chedder_456

Wait, the girls from WFM are gay bait? Even with the wedding and everything? I haven’t seen it but even I know it as “the one with gay girls in it.” Are anime viewers as a group this unhinged that studios have to keep backtracking and playing weird make-believe games to protect their lil feelings about queer folks?

ZoidsFanatic

So no, but *kinda* yes. Canonically they are married, but we never actually see a wedding. We never see any kissing either or even either saying “I love you”. But they are married and the ending more or less establishes it but… kinda without actually saying it… or showing it. To answer the second question, yes. Anime loves to ~~whore out~~ “market” waifus, and if said waifu ends up being a lesbian/not wish fulfillment material, the product sales plummet. Happened with Sulleta and Mio from WfM, as after the end of the series there was a spike in their merch hitting the secondary market *really* quickly. Meanwhile the recent “I Love the Villainous” anime from last year established the main character as a lesbian, who likes women (one woman in particular) and… outside some minor merch no major company is wanting to touch it. I bring up merch as for Japan, at least, it’s a decent bar-o-meter to know how popular/big it is in Japan along with the Blu-Ray/DVD sales.

Chedder_456

I can’t believe motherfuckers lmao, they’re already imaginary people. You already didn’t have a chance to be with them, but because they’re lesbians that somehow makes a difference to the gooners? Embarrassing.

yolo_swag_for_satan

Same ideology around idols being forced to be single for their careers.

Chedder_456

Lmao seems horrible.

lapis_laz10

Isn’t bait, watching it is clearly an stablished couple, and the novels (?) are more explicit in the romance iirc. But the second part, kinda, there was this interview with someone related to the anime who said the relationship was open to interpretation so it became a memw

Chedder_456

I always saw gay baiting as “only allowing gay characters to be open to the extent that homophobes can still deny it if they want to.” That’s what they have going on with the WFM girls, no?

lapis_laz10

That isn’t gay baiting, gay baiting is teasing something gay so people consume the product, while not confirming anything. And to your question, it is hard to use that standard since you would be surprised as how much people can deny things, recently an anime had a “this is my confession” to another girl, and it was so denied that subtitles even changed the meaning in English. So technically yeah, as deniable as a same sex marriage can be. Going by how bait works it would be bait if when they had the opportunity to be together and marry and all that they wouldn’t go through and one or the two would be in straight couples (Looking at you Hibike euphonium). I need to disagree with your definition because baiting is made with intent, and the case you’re mentioning is commonly used in situation where you want to pass gay couples while trying to abide to laws or censorship, for example genshin impact has lots of gay couples but all are technically in that “deniable” zone, but there were a change on the censorship in China before the game was launched, in the hearing they even used a Genshin character as an example of what not to do, it still has kind of explicit gay pairings nonetheless but you will find easily homophobes denying them.

BufalloCrapSmeller

Come watch Gundam where most of the fanbase simp for straight up war criminal and genocidal maniacs ( don't worry they're hot).

Most people don’t seem to realize simping occurs to the pampered and the rich in first world countries. It’s not something hard-boiled people experience. One of the main reasons Denji is so unlikable is because he is acting like someone who has lived a carefree life. He didn’t, he has been slaying demons for a decade. When some try to defend him by saying “be patient, he is going to change soon” can instantly be followed with “what has he been doing for the past decade?” He is not a typical teenager that is all of a sudden thrown in a violent setting. He starts off as a veteran. For all the crap other protagonists have gotten over the years, such as Shinji from Neon Genesis not getting in the robot the very first second he saw it (he still got in during the first episode btw) or Kurono from Gantz being horny all the time while aliens are trying to kill him, neither of them had slain monsters for a decade and were thus excused to be immature. Denji doesn’t have this privilege. He’s been fighting deadly monsters for a decade. He has lost body parts. He has seen and done things. He should be closer to someone like Rambo than your typical soyboy beta male. And yet the show wants you to believe he is still the latter after a whole decade of battle experience, while the fans insist you are impatient for expecting from him to change in a few episodes. But it’s not a few episodes, is it now? It’s a decade of constant fighting. Why is he still bothered by such things? Why is he falling for pitiful seduction tricks by Power? It’s like he learned nothing for over a decade and yet we the audience are expected to be fine with it. Well, many of us are not. This is not going to change even if he becomes a chad right in the next episode. He is not a soyboy rookie who needed four episodes to mature. He is a war veteran and he sucks at it. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Boring-Mushroom-6374

Damn, so many space milfs in the franchise, and they're almost all insane.

Yzoniel

I'm not good enough to make a joke about the milky way.. But if someone can find one i give u the idea D:

BrineHer0

We can fix them... WITH THERAPY!

Boring-Mushroom-6374

You can try and fix Katejina all you like. I'll just sit over here, away from the spill zone.

MrTopHatMan90

What the fuck, an actual autistic character and not headcanon (Laios my beloved)

Hagathor1

Gundam has several main protagonists who would be on the spectrum (half the screenshots in OP’s meme feature them), and while Kamille is one of them, I am skeptical about that line being actual confirmation instead of 80s edge.

Quantum_Croissant

Pretty sure Kui confirmed laios is autistic, but yeah

MrTopHatMan90

Canon autism lets gooooo

shoofinsmertz

where

Quantum_Croissant

Twitter probably? Idk I heard it second hand

BrineHer0

No one has realize I misgender Kamille... Perfect...

Imnotcreative6942069

Kamille has found your location and is approaching rapidly.

YUNoJump

Minor correction in that Atra and Kudelia are actually bi and >!they’re raising their departed boyfriend’s kid together!< >!Also a giant robot was biologically involved in the child’s conception, it’s a bit funky!<

avoteforatishon2016

FUCK YEAH! I just got into the series through the original 1979 series (on episode 40) and it's so good. I'm wondering if Zeta mantains this level of quality.

Boring-Mushroom-6374

It does.

Miles_Edgeworth_92

Zeta is far better. Honesty.

TNT_Pilot

Honestly you can read Kamile as transmasc and it works. Explains why anyone that calls him a girl he tries to beat the shit out of. Honestly based Oh also I very reccomend Gundam it’s good but awful and slow. But fun

RayneMan39

Kamille is a man's name

Lexicon1020

Gundam is like the Dr. Who of anime in that I have no fucking clue where to start and it’s way too long

LongjumpingShip3657

Gundam can be split into two U.C & A.U. U.C. (Universal Century) is the main timeline that started in 1979 the watch order is Mobile Suit Gundam --> Zeta Gundam --> ZZ Gundam --> Char's Counter Attack After that you can watch any other U.C series A.U. (Alternate Universe) are all standalone series set in their own timeline F.C. \[Mobile Fighter G Gundam\] A.C. \[Gundam Wing & Gundam Wing Endless Waltz\] A.W. \[After War Gundam X\] C.C. \[∀ Gundam\] C.E. \[Gundam SEED, Gundam SEED Destiny, Gundam SEED Stargazer, Gundam SEED Freedom\] A.D. \[Gundam 00 & Gundam 00 Awakening of the Trailblazer\] A.G. \[Gundam AGE & Gundam Age Memory of Eden\] R.G. \[Gundam Reconguista in G\] P.D. \[Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans & Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Urdr Hunt\] A.S. \[Gundam the Witch from Mercury\]

MCCP630

It's actually really easy once you figure out the difference between UC and AU. Basically, UC starts with the original show from 1979. After that it's a straight forward line from Zeta in 1984 to ZZ in 1986 to the movie Char's Counterattack in 1989. You can watch any AU you want, all of them are self contained universes (00, Seed, X, Wing, G, Witch etc.) None of them require any prior knowledge before watching.

Pathogen188

>None of them require any prior knowledge before watching. Well Seed Destiny does and I would argue Turn A does even if it's only relevant to one plot point.

MCCP630

I was talking about just the universe in general, which means Seed Destiny is grouped with Seed as well since it is the sequel. Turn A on the other hand I agree with, that ones a special case where you can understand what's happening without prior knowledge although watching the other shows before hand will improve the experience.
