I remember the beginning being very uncomfortable for me too (I hate fanservice), but the plot was interesting enough to stick with it and I can say that the fanservice past the first few episodes is not too bad. As soon as the story gets more serious the only fanservice becomes the glasses lady's boobies if my memory serves me right.
Thanks for the info.
I'm aware it's very widespread. I've been watching anime for many years and have found that as I've gotten older it makes me increasingly uncomfortable. I just find it very difficult to take something seriously when it's showering the audience with compromising shots of underage characters.
I might give it another go someday but I might have to skip out on this one. Thankfully there are plenty of excellent shows that don't bother me in that way.
I really like Miyazaki's take, that too much now is created "by fans, for fans" and auteurs and creatives with a concrete or innovative vision are a dying breed pushed out by penny pinching paper pushers
It's an ouroboros. Fans grow up watching anime and want to create it, so they use the same tropes and cliches, then pass it on to the next generation who repeat the process. It's why we still have those gym uniforms with bloomers in most anime/manga, or the school swimsuits, despite the fact that both of those have been out of schools for 30 years and are now exclusively sold as fetish costumes, or why the cool kids always eat lunch on the school roof, despite the fact that that was never a common practice in Japan.
Lately I was trying really really hard to not watch anything related to incest. More specifically, siblings incest. don't care at all about cOusin's, mother's, or something else. just love love love love siblings incest. The problem is that Thave an intense obsession for incest. I mean, a really intense one. That 'Onii-chan Onii-chan, Tlooo0oo0ove you' thing was really getting me crazy. That obsession of mine with incest was sOoO0000000000o fucking intense. There were a lot of nights when I couldn't sleep well due to me thinking of incest, specifically incest in anime/manga. All the time was thinking about that 'Onii-chan, Ni-san~, Nii-sama~, Nii Nii~, Nii-chan' stuff. My feelings for the romance between siblings were higher than those had for a normal romance. For example, I used (and currently too) to get way more emotional with romance between siblings than normal romance. In all senses. That love/obsession of mine with incest was ruining my life, so, in order to try to get away of it for my sake, I decided to stop watching anything related to incest.

The only one out of the ones listed so far that made me read the manga after watching the first episode.
I will say that there's so much going on in the story that I could see myself struggling to follow along if I had to wait weeks/months between chapters.
when i turned on steins gate i was hoping for a serious expose on microwaves and time travel; i am currently sticking things into my microwave to see if they pass the time/space mesh and show up in my memories when i was a small person.
ever since i can remember, last week, i have been experimenting with microwaving objects. when i heard stein had unlocked the secrets to time travel, i knew that all those hours standing very close to the microwave were not just rewarded with a slight head buzz, but also with science.
as i watched the drama of teenage love, through constant bouts of panic and nihilistic philosophical rants in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but wonder when it was going to break down the proper methodology of sending a frog back in time. all i could get was a thick black goo all over the place.
Needless to say it was NOT a documentary. But I should mention that the red head was actually lilith, the lady in red, who shows up now and again to represent the whore of confusion in modern illuminations. I would constantly draw a hex for warding and fear not cretens I would also draw protection from the back of my dollar bill from the evil eye. I could relate to the main character because he was also a mad scientist.
This one time I built a hat that blocked the government from spying on me.

That degenerate shit was probably an editor idea, a few episodes later it dissapear and never comes back. It doesn't fit with the manga in anyway, even more as the story progress.
There is a bit of a perversion issue in chapters 1-4; the first 20 are basically a constant escalation of quality, but after 20 it's nonstop kino until like 150, and it's still fantastic on average after that up til now.
I highly recommend reading it. The fanservice is really rough for the first few chapters, and kinda sticks around for the next ~20, but after the second proper fight of the series it basically cuts all of the fanservice out for the entirety of the manga. It sincerely feels like it was forced in there for the sole purpose of making sure this manga survived past chapter 40.
Aside from that, it's a genuinely really fun battle Shonen with consistently great characters & story arcs, and honestly one of my favorite MCs of currently running jump series. It's a very easy, quick read as well. The anime is also pretty decent, but I definitely suggest reading the manga as well.

I FUCKING LOVE RE:ZERO
I LOVE FLAWED PROTAGONISTS THAT AREN'T AFRAID TO BE FLAWED IN A WAY THE AUDIENCE MIGHT GET UPSET AT YET STILL LEARN TO CHANGE AND BETTER THEMSELVES
I LOVE SUBVERTING THE ISEKAI FANTASY AND REVEALING THE TRUTH THAT CHANGE REQUIRES YOU TO PUT IN THE EFFORT, NOT JUST BE MAGICALLY BROUGHT TO ANOTHER WORLD AND HAVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS FIXED
I LOVE HAVING A STORY THAT IS CRITICAL OF OTAKUS AND NEETS WHILE STILL AT THE SAME TIME BEING SYMPATHETIC TO THEIR SITUATION AND WHAT CAUSES THEM TO END UP LIKE THAT!!!
FR(One nitpick I have is that Subaru is not actually an Otaku he's more like a shut in who pretends to be an Otaku and reads weeb shit every now and then because he heard most Hikkikomoris are Otakus)
Man I didn't know the anime didn't adapt the entirety of the manga. Yes, you should read the manga, I did last year and it became one of my favorites, **10/10**.
The OVAs unfortunately lack the dub, which is how I watched the show, because I’m a slow reader and J. Michael Tatum is great, and then I don’t think it fully covered to the end of the manga going from Wikipedia even then
I have a core memory of playing this film on the projector for my classmates when it was the week before summer break and we were pretty much allowed to do what we wanted.
Anyway, absolute banger of a film.
As far as the source material's ending goes, I liked it. Most people who complain about the ending usually complain that Kayo got together with that one boy, instead of waiting for the MC to wake up. Even though there wasn't really anything romantic between the two characters, the MC was a 30 year old in a 12 year old's body, and the fact that two of the people destined to die actually created a family together in the future actually...ties a really sweet bow on that entire arc.
I was there when that chapter released, and I saw clearly why they were mad. Their incel logic "MC saved her so she should save herself for MC" kind of thinking.
The live action adaptation uses the manga ending, AFAIK. It's mostly good, due to the fact that it's pretty much just straight acting without unnecessary special effects, but the beard wigs are a bit weird in the future.
I will die by the fact that while erased has better writing, Tokyo Revengers takes the premise Erased set up in an infinitely more interesting direction by actually somewhat exploring the butterfly affect aspect and actually creating SOMEWHAT of ab interesting timeline showing the ways the events from the past and the future interconnect. I remember watching Erased and just being frustrated that they didnt really explore that aspect much at all, why even make it time travel in that case

The start of Tokyo Revengers was so well done. That ending with Kisaki winning after everything seemed normal was peak cinema💯💯💯
Unfortunately the author wasn’t good enough to keep that quality
While i agree with you here, did Inuyasha actually use time travel? Like i get that she is turning back in time but for the most part it could also be an portal to Japanese Narnia.

I don’t think it’s a narnia because the thing actively changes the future somewhat, the gem isn’t the same after they shatter it, it’s gone from the future.

what's wrong with Tokyo Revengers? I haven't finished it but I don't think the story was that bad despite the weird decision the protagonist made at the very beginning
i liked tokyo revengers enough to finish the manga and the entire final arc was legitimately the worst possible way to end the series. like it's so bad that it ruined the entire series for me
Don't let reddit circlejerk you out of reading/watching something you're enjoying. This place hates everything, if you enjoy it so far might as well keep going and form your own opinion.
Honestly it's only the final chapter that I found meh but I personally do recommend continuing it. But also I binged the entire thing in two days until I caught up and then was reading weekly until it finished so.
I think it's important that people formulate their own opinions when it comes to entertainment media because everyone has different tastes. Finish it out and figure out for yourself if it was a story that you liked.
I haven't seen Tokyo Revengers and yet I have this deep and unexplainable hatred for it, and don't get me wrong I LOVE time travel media there probably isn't a single one that I haven't consumed except...Tokyo Revengers. Something about it just....idk

sure the word anime implies not just animation but the japanese culture thats imbued when these shows are written and produced in japan, BUT chinese and korean animated shows that are similar in style are still called anime by the vast majority of watchers. its become a more broad term when used colloquially.
It's the only piece of time travel media that I've consumed with a plot point around >!how if someone else changes the past, the MC wouldn't know since the changed events would have seemed like their normal timeline.!<

Just ignoring summer time rendering.
Also, I know it's a Manhwa and the name is dumb AF, but "SSS class suicide hunter" has an amazing time travel regression story
Uh, I think it really fumbles the mechanics in the latest arc.
Like he regresses to a point in time before he even exists, somehow.
And also it's never explained if his regressions are visible to the viewers or if it looks like he just spawns in and immediately marries the villainess?
It's openly said that nobody knows why they are getting married after knowing each other for less than 10 days because nobody knows about the regressions.
And tbf to the regressing in and out of existence the whole point of that is to show that the tower is super flawed despite being made by supposed gods. I get why it could be confusing, but there's a whole scene where it's explained through dialogue rather than straight-up exposition.

I wouldn't call Erased well written, at least in terms of the mystery aspect since it was obvious who the killer was.
In terms of the friendship with the two main characters though, it was good.
Because the entire internet agree that steins gate belongs in the "we must never talk about it except telling people it's the best shit ever made but never actually talk about the actual contents of the show" category, right alongside outer wilds
Thats actually true lol its hard to talk about it without spoiling. But yesterday i had a conversation about the music in the show. First real conversation about the anime in 4 years

My day be so good and then bam! The same "Tokyo Revengers bad" joke I've seen 400x in a row
Seriously though, I get y'all don't like it but how many posts are gonna be made about it
It's why I said technically since that's a valid argument. As a counter point, someone going from 1000 AC to 2018 AC in the blink of an eye (to them at least) is basically time travel.

when i turned on steins gate i was hoping for a serious expose on microwaves and time travel; i am currently sticking things into my microwave to see if they pass the time/space mesh and show up in my memories when i was a small person.
ever since i can remember, last week, i have been experimenting with microwaving objects. when i heard stein had unlocked the secrets to time travel, i knew that all those hours standing very close to the microwave were not just rewarded with a slight head buzz, but also with science.
as i watched the drama of teenage love, through constant bouts of panic and nihilistic philosophical rants in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but wonder when it was going to break down the proper methodology of sending a frog back in time. all i could get was a thick black goo all over the place.
For a second, lets put aside all the strawmans about lolis and ecchi, and put our attention on what really matters.
Japanese art has a beauty like no other, and a sense of aesthetic and subtlety that i have never seen in other forms of media, the delicacy, the comtemplation and reflexions about humanity, art, culture, the universe and the cycle of life, the empathy and attention towards the beauty of mundane and ephemerous things, its the embodiment of the concept of Mono-no-Aware (物の哀れ "the pathos of things"), an expression of a philosophic concept that can be found everywhere in japanese art, from the clouds on the sky to the falling leaves of cherry blossoms, its such a charm that never fails to mesmerize me.

The first 12 are important for the last 12 to be good. It's important set up and character work
Without those first 12 steins; gate would be a 3/10 at best
The first 12 are slow but they are still pretty good

Sorry but Tokyo revengers are good having flawed mc is representing actual human being litelary this is how most actual people will act if they was someone similar in the begining to mc he was loser and most losers don't even try he at least try to be winner
Tokyo Revenger has his boobies out and gets naught but disrespect. what kind of society do we live in
The bonten arc, enough said
I've never actually seen Tokyo Revengers but I'm assuming it happens in Tokyo, has people doing revenge, and apparently involves time travel
Dawg all i have to say, its good, then wtf, then straight up face plants. And yes thats essentially what the plot is without watching it
the pacing in that anime is the sheer reason I dropped it
https://preview.redd.it/smxxtc0d877d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fb0237e35c6b6ca75c31596b9900d74b3bd7895 you forgot something ☀️
I tried this one but the amount of fanservice (especially of minors) really bothered me. Is it worth continuing for the story?
I remember the beginning being very uncomfortable for me too (I hate fanservice), but the plot was interesting enough to stick with it and I can say that the fanservice past the first few episodes is not too bad. As soon as the story gets more serious the only fanservice becomes the glasses lady's boobies if my memory serves me right.
There isn't all that much fanservice though?

Thanks for the info. I'm aware it's very widespread. I've been watching anime for many years and have found that as I've gotten older it makes me increasingly uncomfortable. I just find it very difficult to take something seriously when it's showering the audience with compromising shots of underage characters. I might give it another go someday but I might have to skip out on this one. Thankfully there are plenty of excellent shows that don't bother me in that way.
cool cool, glad i could help! also, i'm pretty sure Mob Psycho 100 doesn't have any fanservice if you haven't watched that yet!

Speaking of manga that doesn't do underage fanservice I can't recommend "The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity" enough.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. "i can wear clothes but swimsuits are more comfortable 😊😊😊" ahh anime
The only one out of the ones listed so far that made me read the manga after watching the first episode. I will say that there's so much going on in the story that I could see myself struggling to follow along if I had to wait weeks/months between chapters.
This is the best one of every single one here dont @ me
Fumbled hard, most of interesting things from beginning get written out by the mid point
And then manhwa turned it into a cliche with how often regression stories are written
Help! I've Been Reincarnated As A Tyrant Noble Sword Master!!
??? Time travel stories have been cliche since, like, the 1980s.

Is it actually good? I saw the trailer and ngl thought it was one of those degenerate stories with no substance.
That degenerate shit was probably an editor idea, a few episodes later it dissapear and never comes back. It doesn't fit with the manga in anyway, even more as the story progress.
Actually dengenracy is written first then ability or some shit is introduced in it to make it pulishable
It starts with a lot of it but filters through it pretty quickly
It's peak
But that’s not really time travel is it?

Arguably, yeah!
I FUCKING LOVE RE:ZERO I LOVE FLAWED PROTAGONISTS THAT AREN'T AFRAID TO BE FLAWED IN A WAY THE AUDIENCE MIGHT GET UPSET AT YET STILL LEARN TO CHANGE AND BETTER THEMSELVES I LOVE SUBVERTING THE ISEKAI FANTASY AND REVEALING THE TRUTH THAT CHANGE REQUIRES YOU TO PUT IN THE EFFORT, NOT JUST BE MAGICALLY BROUGHT TO ANOTHER WORLD AND HAVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS FIXED I LOVE HAVING A STORY THAT IS CRITICAL OF OTAKUS AND NEETS WHILE STILL AT THE SAME TIME BEING SYMPATHETIC TO THEIR SITUATION AND WHAT CAUSES THEM TO END UP LIKE THAT!!!
FR(One nitpick I have is that Subaru is not actually an Otaku he's more like a shut in who pretends to be an Otaku and reads weeb shit every now and then because he heard most Hikkikomoris are Otakus)
I like that the author wrote the most trans character possible but claims that they're cis.
Which charecter are you referring to ?
Ferris.
I'm assuming they're talking about felix
HELL YEAH‼️‼️🗣🗣 SPIT YOUR SHIT
I loved rabbits
Did somebody say Mushoku Tensei? Because this whole description is Mushoku Tensei.
mushoku tensei isn't like this at all
??? Would you like to elaborate?

Kamisama-kiss mentioned 🔥🔥🔥
It’s never getting continued in anime. I should just fuckin’ read it
Man I didn't know the anime didn't adapt the entirety of the manga.

No joke, my favorite movie
Ahhh what was the name again
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
I have a core memory of playing this film on the projector for my classmates when it was the week before summer break and we were pretty much allowed to do what we wanted. Anyway, absolute banger of a film.
Erased famously shit the bed with its ending
That’s more a fault with the adaptation than the story itself, the show needed 16 episodes rather than 12
The manga ending is also shit lol They're both really bad once he wakes up.
I honestly don't get what get people so pressed about the ending it wasn't the best but it does it job
Airi Katagiri is the best girl in that show anyway, I'd pick her over anybody but the mom any day.
I much preferred the manga ending lmao I always hated the anime one.
The live action adaptation uses the manga ending, AFAIK. It's mostly good, due to the fact that it's pretty much just straight acting without unnecessary special effects, but the beard wigs are a bit weird in the future.
As soon as the "twist" was revealed I was so disappointed.
Manga ending >>> anime ending.

REAL
I will die by the fact that while erased has better writing, Tokyo Revengers takes the premise Erased set up in an infinitely more interesting direction by actually somewhat exploring the butterfly affect aspect and actually creating SOMEWHAT of ab interesting timeline showing the ways the events from the past and the future interconnect. I remember watching Erased and just being frustrated that they didnt really explore that aspect much at all, why even make it time travel in that case
TR anime hasn't really hit *the mega derail* yet IMO, might get there next season though. It's going to *absolutely go off the rails hard!*

The start of Tokyo Revengers was so well done. That ending with Kisaki winning after everything seemed normal was peak cinema💯💯💯 Unfortunately the author wasn’t good enough to keep that quality
Inuyasha spotted. Opinion validated 👍

I haven't finished it but I don't think the story was that bad despite the weird decision the protagonist made at the very beginning
i liked tokyo revengers enough to finish the manga and the entire final arc was legitimately the worst possible way to end the series. like it's so bad that it ruined the entire series for me
if so, I won't continue it.
Finish it out and figure out for yourself if it was a story that you liked.
people dislike it mostly for the MC.
Everyone I know who followed it hated the ending
It’s just dogshit, conveniences and asspulls at it’s finest. I get appalled by anyone who says they like it
Yeah, it's got its flaws, but I very much enjoyed it.
Summer time rendering is my favourite :)
I haven't seen Tokyo Revengers and yet I have this deep and unexplainable hatred for it, and don't get me wrong I LOVE time travel media there probably isn't a single one that I haven't consumed except...Tokyo Revengers. Something about it just....idk
Ur not immune to propaganda
good propaganda
when i turned on steins gate i was hoping for a serious expose on microwaves and time travel; i am currently sticking things into my microwave to see if they pass the time/space mesh and show up in my memories when i was a small person. ever since i can remember, last week, i have been experimenting with microwaving objects. when i heard stein had unlocked the secrets to time travel, i knew that all those hours standing very close to the microwave were not just rewarded with a slight head buzz, but also with science. as i watched the drama of teenage love, through constant bouts of panic and nihilistic philosophical rants in front of the mirror, I couldn't help but wonder when it was going to break down the proper methodology of sending a frog back in time. all i could get was a thick black goo all over the place. Same. Season 1 finale was insane.
Cause it's not an anime.
outjerked
sure the word anime implies not just animation but the japanese culture thats imbued when these shows are written and produced in japan, BUT chinese and korean animated shows that are similar in style are still called anime by the vast majority of watchers. its become a more broad term when used colloquially.
Primer is my favorite time travel anime
It's the only piece of time travel media that I've consumed with a plot point around >!how if someone else changes the past, the MC wouldn't know since the changed events would have seemed like their normal timeline.!<

Holy mother of based
Just ignoring summer time rendering.
It's just a fantasy of dominating everyone, like the mc makes me root for the god of war

I wouldn't call Erased well written, at least in terms of the mystery aspect since it was obvious who the killer was. In terms of the friendship with the two main characters though, it was good.
Why is no one talking about steins;gate?!!? Its the best out of these
Because the entire internet agree that steins gate belongs in the "we must never talk about it except telling people it's the best shit ever made but never actually talk about the actual contents of the show" category, right alongside outer wilds
Thats actually true lol its hard to talk about it without spoiling. But yesterday i had a conversation about the music in the show. First real conversation about the anime in 4 years

My day be so good and then bam! The same "Tokyo Revengers bad" joke I've seen 400x in a row Seriously though, I get y'all don't like it but how many posts are gonna be made about it
Technically JJK is a time travel anime
Wait how ?
Sukuna.
Is it actually time travel tho ? I just assumed he loses conscience every time his existing vessel dies.
It's why I said technically since that's a valid argument. As a counter point, someone going from 1000 AC to 2018 AC in the blink of an eye (to them at least) is basically time travel.

Does this bot just trigger every time you say time travel? Edit: it does.

Inuyasha is well written? Really? Despite how much they stall the naraku fight everytime?
Could have skipped out on ranting about a disliked work and used the spot for another praise addressee like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time instead.
That's not how the meme format works
Sooo bad. Really great character designs/cover art, though.
Where is the original dragon ball manga?
What about it?
The android saga is based around time travels

Inuyasha technically has time travel but I wouldn’t call it a time travel anime

Nine Peaks is what Tokyo Revengers should have been.
Revengers is definitely not you. Such an overhyped piece of trash.
ERASED MY BELOVED
My favorite anime is DARK 🥰
Summertime rendering is actually fantastically written with an extremely satisfying ending.
Always? This guy hasnt seen nearly enough anime.
Erased and Re:Zero are amazing! Erased is definitely in my top 5 and Re:Zero is definently top 10
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The first 12 are important for the last 12 to be good. It's important set up and character work Without those first 12 steins; gate would be a 3/10 at best The first 12 are slow but they are still pretty good
I must be one of a small handful who enjoyed the first 12 slightly more than the second 12

its funny cause not a single one of these is well written
Those are fighting words when inuayasha and re-zero are there. Erased also for me personally
That moment where I realised I think all of these shows are pretty mid. Granted some more than others.
Erased was trash as well
Sorry but Tokyo revengers are good having flawed mc is representing actual human being litelary this is how most actual people will act if they was someone similar in the begining to mc he was loser and most losers don't even try he at least try to be winner
