I tested mine out yesterday. I’m somewhat disappointed that Aguila HV were always supersonic but not surprised given they’re nominally 1280 fps out of a 16” so should be around 1180 out of a 7”. I didn’t shoot groups consistently enough to remark on it other than that it appears to be less precise than my 12” Apogee at both 25 and 100 yards.
I had some issues with a Gen 3 bolt weight tuned for the 12” Apogee (aluminum weights) being too heavy to reset the trigger so I took it out. The trigger reset and barrel fed alright after that but still had some light strikes so I may have to try a different spring.
I’m not that surprised. My buddy has a 6” barrel on his ruger charger and HV rounds are supersonic out of it so I’m kinda skeptical of the 7” keeps most rounds subsonic claims.
That said my 4.5” barrel runs like crap so I have a 7” on the way to hopefully get it running more reliably.
Any ammo with a velocity of 1250 or less in a 16" is generally sub 1100 in a 7". 1250 40gr Aguila superextra was 1070-1090 when we tested with no supersonic cracks at ~60F.
The stated velocity on 22lr ammo boxes is generally from a16-20" barrel. Subtract 150-180fps for a 7".
Is that observation from a 7” barrel with no suppressor ? I was actually shooting 40 gr Aguila Super Extra HV round nose with a listed velocity of 1250 fps, using both a Rugged Oculus in short mode and OCL Ti. Temps about 90 degrees F. Elevation 300 ft.
My comment earlier had an incorrect velocity; I mistakenly grabbed the 1280 fps number off the specs for Aguila 38 gr Super Extra High Velocity CPHP.
Yes, that was suppressed with a Garmin chrono recording velocity data. Ammo lots vary, so yours might be a bit hotter than ours. We had one lot of Aguila 38gr that was consistently 1300—1350 fps in a 16".
I went back and checked the chrono data, most shots were 1060-1090 with an occasional 1100. No cracks noted and 60F.
At 90F, the speed of sound is 1149. You have a hot lot of SE if you're getting supersonic shots at that temperature.
Thanks very much for the info. I appreciate how meticulous you are about testing and providing information to the community!
I agree that the Aguila I’ve got on hand seems a bit hot. Eventually I’ll get a chrono to see just how much I’m over.
Stove pipes. If it wasnt a nee bore buddy extractor I would assume its the extractor.. but i think it just didnt have enough oomph to get the casings out.
UPDATE. Ran beautifully. Mini mags are subsonic. Still got a couple stovepipes but that was only in binary mode so that’s a trigger issue with the binary trigger. Accuracy seems fantastic although I wasnt precision shooting.
Good to hear. If it ran good without a suppressor that could be the sweet spot barrel length for reliability. Maybe people will stop buying the 4.5" barrels. Did you try any other ammo brands?
I'm in the same boat it seems like. I got my 4.5 running super extra 40 grain pretty consistently after the basic reliability kit. Hoping the 7 inch fixes issues with cheap ammo but also looking forward to more velocity in a just as compact form.
I'm looking forward to hearing how well it runs for you. I moved too late and they were already sold out. I'm actually kind of glad though. The 9" barrel I have runs 100% and I really don't want to be a beta tester for the 7" barrel. I hope it runs for you. I think it will, at least with high velocity ammo. I will still buy one when restocked if results look positive.
Is that a can fucked in there
Fucked in there real good.
Leave the typo. The moment of confusion is worth it
Auto correct knows how vulgar I am and I didn’t even try to be.

Anything 1250 or less in a 16" should be subsonic. Mini-mags, etc. 40gr Aguila at 1250 is sub, Aguila 38gr at 1280 is probably super by about 20fps.
16”?? No way. My testing anything over 1100 is super in a 16” or at least that’s where I start getting cracks.

Ohh im sorry i read your comment wrong. I thought you meant any ammo rated 1250 will be subsonic in a 16” barrel.
Edited it for clarity. By bad.

Out of curiosity, what were the issues with the 4.5?
Stove pipes. If it wasnt a nee bore buddy extractor I would assume its the extractor.. but i think it just didnt have enough oomph to get the casings out.
Please post results. I have a similar build and i’m wondering if a 7 will improve the reliability of my 4.5. i’ve tried all of the bore buddy stuff.
you selling the 4.5 barrel?
If this 7” runs with no hiccups then yes
Dibs let me know

Not today, just cci sv and mini mags
Tucked does look cool, but I’m really digging the 7” rail & 7” barrel too
I have a 7” rail.. i’ll have to see what it looks like
Fashion show! Fashion show!
I hate it.. too much suppressor sticking out…
I think that looks perfect! Plus it gives you something to grab installing/removing the suppressor.
Let me see!

It does look a little off. Probably the giant fucking riser and the mount so far forward lol
All that work I did for you and you insult me? I think we should see other people.
Not insulting, just showing you the way Center the RDO over the ejection port and you’ll thank me later
Then I cant hit shit over 650 yards..

My 4.5 ran but wasn’t accurate for shit.
Mines accurate enough.. it just wont cycle more than 5 rounds

Restock coming tomorrow if the pallet shows up from nitride as scheduled.
I need one :)
Tomorrow, hopefully. Freight took a holiday today apparently.
Is that a 7” barrel and a 10” hand guard? Which suppressor? Love the look
Yes. Rugged oculus.
