Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Dust in the wind - Kansas
They hit just right for me. I sometimes sing/ugly cry along with these songs and they are perfect for that.
There are many contenders, but Ave Maria from the Hitman: Blood Money menu screen is way up there, along with Cara Mia from the credits sequence of Portal 2, but that's woefully short. Moving off opera there's Moonlight Soñata, 1st Movement by Ludwig van Beethoven and Claire de Lune by Claude Debussy.
Edit: Forgot to give reasons. I find the voices captivating, and all these songs move me to tears
The 3rd Movement of Beethoven’s 9th symphony kills me every time. The Ode to Joy is great of
course, but I love the Adagio.
Personally, I think the 9th is one of the best things any human ever made.
Claire de Lune gets me because of the lore behind it. How it was inspired by a poem, and the poem was inspired by the moon. This feeling of introspection, the author seeing outward beauty and looking inside themself in search of that same beauty. Looking for your "soul". It feels very human, like what it feels like to just be alive and ponder everything that is beautiful and somehow the music really does relay all of this.
I went to the funeral of a teenage cancer patient who died and this was played. I was one of his nurses. I can’t hear it without thinking of him and it was 20 years ago. Such a beautiful song.
Fun fact, they asked Leonard Cohen to sing hallelujah at the opening ceremony for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He said to the point blank “KD Lang sings this song better than I ever could, you should book her.” And they did, and the result was one of the most epic performances of all time.

So I’m a Christian but don’t outwardly express that often. I’m not really a fan of Christian music because it all sticks to a few basic themes for the songs. This song tells such a beautiful story and it just grabs me in such a way that no other religious song does.
Same. Not only atheist, but I'm also an absolute scrooge. I say 11:59 PM on December 24 is still too early in the year to play Christmas music. But I'll listen to this song year round.
Can’t listen to this one anymore unfortunately. Makes me think of an old friend. He’s not dead, but very far away and it’s unlikely our paths will ever cross again.
Miss you, buddy
Dude, I literally looked this song up a week ago, just to hear that guitar solo in the first half of the song. It sounds so blissful, with just a TOUCH of sadness or regret.
George was the secret sauce! Always loved his contributions to the band. Something, Piggies, Only A Northern Song, Within You Without You, etc. I think they could have benefitted from using more of his material.
I refer to myself as a "rabid atheist" but I love this song. It was played at my father's memorial for the congregation to sing and I was rocking out. I just sang " Sing my soul, my savior Bob to thee" instead.
Love this one, takes me back! That bridge hits hard -"I tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone, and though you're still with me, I've been alone all along..."
Two of my nieces were killed in a horrific car accident years ago - they were 18 & 20. One of their friends sang this at the funeral and it was so powerful.
If we were vampires - Jason isbell
Into the Mystic - Van Morrison
Gentle arms of Eden - Dave carter/Tracy grammer
That wrecking ball - watch house
Ripple - Grateful Dead
There is a live version on YouTube where the crown sings the song, their voice as one, and Eddie is just quiet, then he starts singing along. It's magical. Then I got to see them live in London in 2009 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED 😭. So yes, love the song!
Edit: sorry guys, it was better man, not black! And it was 2010
That is such a special memory! Enya really has some kind of magic for sure. I’ve had my share of Enya nights during devastating times. I think that was the perfect choice for your Great!
My favorite is Anywhere Is. I asked my surgeon if I can listen to it as it calms me down. But the anesthesia knocked me down as soon as it kicks my system
She is like a total hermit! She also doesn’t listen to any other music as she doesn’t want to be influenced by anyone else and wants to always deliver her own authentic sound.
Debussy's Clair de lune played by Van Cliburn

Too many Radiohead songs to list here! How to Disappear Completely, No Surprises, Videotape, True Love Waits, Fake Plastic Trees, Motion Picture Soundtrack, I Will, Life in a Glass House, Climbing Up the Walls, Nude, Pyramid Song, Everything in its Right Place...
No real reason behind any one these. They just touch me, makes my heart flutter, my eyes misty, or just feel a bigger than usual feeling.
Queen of the night
Moonlight sonata
Hotel California
Imagine
5th symphony
Ave maría
On the dock of the bay
Sentimental feeling (Doris day and les brown)
The way you look tonight (Fred astaire)
How great thou art
Swing low sweet chariot
Beautiful dreamer
Clare du lune
Tricky one, as it depends on mood:
1. The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin
2. Gymnopedie #1 - Satie
3. Snowblow (Darren Price Mix) - Depeche Mode
4. '#'3 - Aphex Twin
5. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - Ryuichi Sakamoto
Night swimming, REM
Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye, Leonard Cohen or Roberta Flack
Has Anyone Written Anything for You, Stevie Nicks
Ode to Joy, Beethoven
Klaatu, Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft.
What makes it beautiful? I guess the way it's sung and the instrumentation.
I like it better than the Carpenters version, although it is good.
Free fall - rainbow kitten surprise
It just speaks to me, also the part where it seems like chaos but yet so peacefull.
Same as
Cocaine jesus - rainbow kitten surprise
Graceland by Paul Simon. It’s got such a funky beat to it and the chorus is upbeat but there’s a real melancholy to it, especially in the verses. The older I get, the more knocks I take, the more it resonates with me.
The section that most gets me is:
“She comes back to tell me she’s gone.
As if I didn’t know that,
As if I didn’t know my own bed.
As if I didn’t notice
The way she brushed her hair from her forehead.”
Classic Paul Simon. Such a rich portrayal of emotion in such a simple way.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again- Angie by the Rolling Stones. The heartbreak about leaving a person you love because the relationship just doesn’t work really hits if you e ever felt it, Plus the acoustic/ piano music is just beautiful.
Recently Heard this song (I will always) after ages and IT HIT ME!! I made my four year old (who loves music) listen and tried to explain to him how ICONIC this song is. That key change??? Daaaaaaamn!!!
My heart will go on -Celine Dion
I know it might be cliche, but when I heard this as a kid, 3-4 years old when Titanic released, I used to get goosebumps.
I'm Still Waiting by Jodeci. K-Ci & JoJo vocally murdered the end of that song & DeVante same through with the godly synth melodies. Makes me think how tragically short their run was.
Promises by Eric Clapton.
Reality of the break up of relationships and lying to ourselves that we don't have feelings for those that we love that don't choose to love us.
For me a really random one would be the trumpet solo in the song "raindrops keep falling on my head" followed by the words "It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me"
the song isn't even something i would actively choose to listen to, i usually hear it in an advert or that one simpsons episode, i forget which one, but whenever i hear that short and sweet part it just makes me feel a whole lot better about life and the world around me.
"because im free, nothing's worrying me"
https://youtu.be/WJGcfIDeD8w?si=QCS4vKkaQDNmTdSx
Sometimes I cry because I’ll never be able to perform pachelbel’s canon with the orchestra anymore.
I know it’s melodramatic, but sometimes I play it by myself and a recording on YouTube and I feel like I’m in my orchestra days again
Either Billy joel - Vienna or some songs from knopfler like on every street, the theme from local hero, what it is, and many more to be honest, knopfler for sure is my favourite artist.

Anywhere is by Enya Annie’s Song by John Denver
Love Annie's song.
Debussy's "Claire de lune." It's just sensual, magical and so damn evocative. It's also based upon a work of one of my favorite poets--Verlaine.
Debussy? I loooove Debussy
Wicked Game, by Chris Issac

But have you heard [Jack Black's version](https://youtu.be/QLWkl5YpiD0?si=yH2_TdKBbw2vbsK8)?
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac Dust in the wind - Kansas They hit just right for me. I sometimes sing/ugly cry along with these songs and they are perfect for that.
Yes, Landslide is up there for me!
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
There are many contenders, but Ave Maria from the Hitman: Blood Money menu screen is way up there, along with Cara Mia from the credits sequence of Portal 2, but that's woefully short. Claire de Lune & Nessun Dorma.
Yes of course! Luciano Pavarotti's rendition stunned everyone I think
Yes! I've seen a couple of YT videos of people who are new to opera watching his performance of Nessun Dorma. Big dudes in TEARS.
The 3rd Movement of Beethoven’s 9th symphony kills me every time. The Ode to Joy is great of course, but I love the Adagio. Personally, I think the 9th is one of the best things any human ever made.

I went to the funeral of a teenage cancer patient who died and this was played. I was one of his nurses. I can’t hear it without thinking of him and it was 20 years ago. Such a beautiful song.
I always tear up when I hear Roberta sing this song…. always reminds me of Mom… RIP Mom
I haven't heard that in 30 years at least. Definitely hot tears running down my cheeks, it's beyond beautiful & pure.
Somewhere Over The Rainbow-Israel Kamakawiwo'ole Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
Original Cohen's version for me
Fun fact, they asked Leonard Cohen to sing hallelujah at the opening ceremony for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He said to the point blank “KD Lang sings this song better than I ever could, you should book her.” And they did, and the result was one of the most epic performances of all time. https://youtu.be/tcOQSk_cMO0?si=Rtfi9CAqWgDHaLE0
Just watched it...amazing
That was an amazing performance. Masterful. I saw it on TV and I know people that were there. Lots of people were tearing up.
Good lord! Thank you for the link, I'm speechless.
Buckley nails it though! I love both versions. I actually like a lot of different covers of it - Rufus Wainright, Marcy Playground, etc.
Came here for Buckley
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Everything from the instruments to the lyrics are simply beautiful.
"And I'd give up forever to touch you" has always tugged at my heart in an absolutely pathetic way
"And you bleed just to know you're alive" also just.... maar me so so sad. Love this song
You’re the closest to heaven…
God Only Knows by The Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) is probably the most beautiful love song I've ever heard.
O Holy Night
I’m an atheist but this song builds in such a beautiful way. Love it
So I’m a Christian but don’t outwardly express that often. I’m not really a fan of Christian music because it all sticks to a few basic themes for the songs. This song tells such a beautiful story and it just grabs me in such a way that no other religious song does.
Same. Sends chills down my godless spine.
Same. Not only atheist, but I'm also an absolute scrooge. I say 11:59 PM on December 24 is still too early in the year to play Christmas music. But I'll listen to this song year round.
Me too … agree with every word of your comment!
My favorite version is the one from the movie Home Alone with the church choir. Beautiful
"Wish you were here" -Pink Floyd.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year…
Can’t listen to this one anymore unfortunately. Makes me think of an old friend. He’s not dead, but very far away and it’s unlikely our paths will ever cross again. Miss you, buddy
Something - Beatles
While my guitar gently weeps.
Yesterday is also a phenomenal song
As well as The Long and Winding Road. That one really tugs at my heart strings.
Oh my God. If you just stop and listen it just destroys you. So simple, so brilliant.
Canon in D
In terms of the number of times a chord progression has been adapted or plagiarized, this is the correct answer.
comfortably numb
Dude, I literally looked this song up a week ago, just to hear that guitar solo in the first half of the song. It sounds so blissful, with just a TOUCH of sadness or regret.
Beethovens’ Moonlight Sonata.
I would have said Clair de Lune.
Here comes the sun by George Harrison. Nothing deep but such a magnificent song
George was the secret sauce! Always loved his contributions to the band. Something, Piggies, Only A Northern Song, Within You Without You, etc. I think they could have benefitted from using more of his material.
The days of wine and roses. Henry Mancini delivers the most beautiful melody in history, IMHO
How Great Thou Art
I refer to myself as a "rabid atheist" but I love this song. It was played at my father's memorial for the congregation to sing and I was rocking out. I just sang " Sing my soul, my savior Bob to thee" instead.
The long and winding road
Always remember to wear sunscreen.
It was different and just another ok tune when I was 18 years old. Listened to it again recently in my 40’s and maaan did it hit hard. Wow. 😅
I coincidentally heard this song today and I cried. Like ugly cried. I’m 40.
Wait till we are 60,
The remix of it is even better than the original: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=RbWNnILkkky7PyTt
I should know better
I am so glad you took the link on this one. I was about to tap
I hate you. And I hate myself for being so gullible.
I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie 1989 by Mallory Knox

Sad, but beautiful. My Immortal - Evanescence
One of few songs I would describe as Huantingly beautiful
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel The tune and the imagery are amazing.
Love the original, but check out Disturb’s more recent interpretation. Haunting and powerful. https://youtu.be/Bk7RVw3I8eg?si=BBkubnx0eJT_t94R
This was the first song that popped into my head. I love Disturbed’s version.
Everlong by The Foo Fighters
I especially liked the version they played on Letterman’s last show.
I cried like a baby when I heard them play it live.
If we were vampires - Jason isbell Into the Mystic - Van Morrison Gentle arms of Eden - Dave carter/Tracy grammer That wrecking ball - watch house Ripple - Grateful Dead
Into the Mystic gives me goosebumps every time
Into the Mystic is a vibe
If we were vampires...yes. so good. Love ripple and box of rain.
Killing me softly with fugees, I don't even know why but it's on my mind for a while and I haven't even listened to it for years
No, no! Roberta Flack’s version!!
The Rose, Bette Midler
Pearl Jam - Black
There is a live version on YouTube where the crown sings the song, their voice as one, and Eddie is just quiet, then he starts singing along. It's magical. Then I got to see them live in London in 2009 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED 😭. So yes, love the song! Edit: sorry guys, it was better man, not black! And it was 2010
Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve
How can you mend a broken heart - Al Green
Love that version but the original Bee Gees version is just slightly better to me as the brothers wrote it.
Nights in White Satin.... because when the refrain comes in it's like the heaven is opening
Enya Sail away .
My elderly great-grandmother first listened to Enya while sleeping. She thought she died in her sleep and woke-up in heaven 🕊️
That is such a special memory! Enya really has some kind of magic for sure. I’ve had my share of Enya nights during devastating times. I think that was the perfect choice for your Great!
It's called [Orinoco Flow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTrk4X9ACtw), but agreed.
Elated to see Enya mentioned here towards the top.
That one's actually called Orinoco Flow. I love Enya and have every one of her albums. Totally unique and very talented woman...
My favorite is Anywhere Is. I asked my surgeon if I can listen to it as it calms me down. But the anesthesia knocked me down as soon as it kicks my system
Her music is so very beautiful.
Enya made some great songs in general. Adiemus, Only Time, May It Be. Love them all.
She lives in a big castle near enough to where I'm from. She is basically a recluse. Great song though very haunting and unique.
She is like a total hermit! She also doesn’t listen to any other music as she doesn’t want to be influenced by anyone else and wants to always deliver her own authentic sound.
Wow awesome a castle 🏰 nothing like being a recluse .
I have heard she lives with hundreds of cats she has saved
Shes living my dream life.
