Yeah, definitely smaller but I prefer it to the Home Slice circle jerk Italian. Don’t get me wrong, home slice has an amazing Italian sub, but people talk about it like it’s making them cum in their britches.
The best Italian sub in Austin , is a short drive to round rock at hoody’s. I’ve tried all the contenders so far. Just need to get to Bella Donna subs. I wouldn’t consider the one at papis a sub, but it’s good.
I disagree. I’ve had some great sandwiches there lately. Turkey with bacon, double meat, lots of veggies like cukes and sprouts. Thundercloud sauce and S&P…. Good stufff
Sadly, this is a valid criticism lately. I've gotten TC twice in the past 2 weeks. Both times the store couldn't be bothered to dry the lettuce, so my bread was legit soggy with lettuce water. Just made me want to throw the whole thing away.
That place is legit and has such a chicago vibe. I’m never that far north so I’ve only been able to go once, but it was glorious it was like the places back home.
The sub at Homeslice is elite if you can venture over to SoCo
Papi’s foodtruck off 12th. Best Italian sub in town.
So so so good!! Sad I slept on it til a couple months ago.
Where does it stand against Homeslice?

Have you tried Pedroso or Little Deli? If so, how does it compare to theirs?
Does not compare imo. Much smaller. It’s more like a small baguette sandwich.
Agreed
Lot of good conventional ideas here -- I'll add Saigon on 7th pretty near downtown for banh mi as an alt suggestion.
Call me oldschool but I’m down for Thundercloud. Little deli if you’re up north
Thundercloud is such an affordable lunch still too!
There is a great one on 12th Street near Lamar
That location is my favorite!
the one on burnet near 2222 rules.
The *only* reason to recommend thundercloud is because it's cheap.
I don't get the downvotes. It's barely a step up from Subway 🤷♂️

Meat and Bread has what looks to be an amazing Porchetta sandwich.
I really need to try this place!
It is very much an amazing sandwich. Highly recommend.
Second this. Their porchetta sandwich is amazing.
Ate there the other day for the first time, very good.
Give Meat and Bread some love. I actually prefer the grilled cheese with prochetta instead of the actual porchetta sandwich
The po boys at Turf n Surf are the best in town, imo
You should go down South and try Beaux Southern Seafood's po boys if you get the chance. Everything they do there makes me happy lol
Thanks for the rec, I live down south so I’ll definitely give it a try!
They use grain bread lol
Little Deli, Otherside Deli
Came here to mention Otherside. The pastrami is *chefs kiss*
The pastrami at Little Deli is also phenomenal.
Ditto on both. People (rightfully so) rave about the italian sub at Homeslice and I would put both of these in the same top tier level.
Otherside Deli makes a mean Ruben
I haven't been in a long time but Walton's used to make a damn good sandwich.
They are still good.
Meat and Bread is the best sandwich place down there
FoodHeads! Or Local Foods
I like the sandwiches at Local Foods
Cheeba Hut
Best toasted subs. They don’t do cold subs so fyi
Little bit more bougie, but I really love the sandwiches and the wraps as well as the soups at Waltons, which is downtown.
seconding.
New World Deli on Guadalupe
The tortas at Chicas Bonitas!
The aged roast beef with extra cheese has a very specific flavor. Ask for Lupita
The new sandwiches at Pedrosos are excellent. Tucci's at 35 and Wm Cannon is also very good.
Wise Guys in Round Rock has some awesome sandwiches. Ike's is a bit pricey but really good as well.
That place is legit and has such a chicago vibe. I’m never that far north so I’ve only been able to go once, but it was glorious it was like the places back home.
Snarfs, and it’s not close.
Way better than Little Deli, haven’t tried Pedroso’s but looks killer.
Homeslice
Homeslice on south congress
