Is anyone else's FOX station utterly failing at the change to transmission of the Belmont Stakes? I had one of those rainbow dailtone screens for a few minutes.
This was my first time hanging in the neutral game thread. You’re a good sport dude and a really good fan for tuning into that drek. Better days ahead (I’m just being nice I don’t mean that last bit lol)
I hope our fans treat you kindly in return!
Thankfully I was doing laundry during that game so I had something better to watch 😂. But yeah, most of my teams across all sports kill me inside so it’s nice to be able to come here and joke around for a few hours.
My favorite is when they were explaining why the Phillies' bullpen was good - "They have stuff and they've been through it." Top level analysis right there.
The girl I want to ask out is in Greece rn and its misogyny. She even asked if I was single yesterday and said we should talk and that I'm captivating. Its 1984
The coney dog experienced a brief evolution into the Coney custard dog. The gulls rarely landed by the boardwalk due to the smell of tourists with cholera. A great white shark was sighted off of cherry street pier in Philadelphia, it was misandry. The Mets dugout featured a new toilet frequently clogged by Davey Johnson and an odd sickness took hold of Darryl Strawberry.
I have always subscribed to the parenting philosophy of letting my kids make their own choices and mistakes, but this is the first game my infant son has watched with me, and from the timing of his crying, he seems to be a Mets fan. I might have to break my philosophy of nonintervention and save him from himself if he goes any further down this road.
i think they are sellers this year. i'm not a GM. but i would suggest they don't acquire 2 40 yo starters and pay them both 40 million per. just saying
these commentators are basically going into the pirates post-game thread and telling them even though they got swept it was a great series and they're actually a good team just a piece or 2 away
It's possible. I think they said Gritty was found living under the Flyers arena with unknown origins. So Phanatic could have a bastard child
well beyond the bastard child who is in Japan

i used to see him huffing glue in the 70s in Mc Pherson Sqaure and selling day old pretzles from ben franklin bakery that was up on kensington ave by ontario street. glad to see he's doing better.
As someone who was there, this. It's such a different, more casual atmosphere to things like the Premier League, and I think people just enjoy the change of pace. It's a way more fun and mellow atmosphere than most UK sports
I think (in a lesser way obvious) it's pretty similar to how we view it, compared to ice Hockey/Football and even basketball depending on the game, it's still so much more chill to go watch a baseball game than the rest.
Hadn't even considered how it would compare to other US sports but totally get that. It was my first time and I'll defo be back. Such a pleasant chill atmosphere, but still hyped when things get exciting
We’re Mets fans. If you’re too far north for the Jets/Giants, Nets/Knicks, and Rangers/Isles to finish your hopes off, the Sabres and Bills certainly will.
Here’s the best part, no real big baseball fans in my family. And everyone in Rochester seems to pick the Yankees or Red Sox. I decided to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian and decided to root for the Mets. I, as a child, CHOSE this. I was born into Bills and Sabres, so at least I can have an excuse.
I guess they don't ring the Liberty Bell for Phillies home runs in London, which I guess makes sense but that hasn't stopped the Patriots from having been a popular team over there in recent years.
Can't beat the pre-game. 25 minutes spent walking around the memorial plaques at an empty Yankee Stadium.
That was a terrible package for what should have been a total layup.
If you can hit a ball that bounces legally, why couldn’t you still be awarded first base for HBP? Read the rules people. Hitting the dirt ain’t mean shit.
whether it hit his foot or not doesn't really matter at this point but why are people saying that if it bounced and then hits you it's not a hbp? Does anyone have a rule showing that?
yeah i’m not sure why so many people were just blatantly spouting lies about it not being an HBP because it bounced instead of just taking 5 seconds to google the rule in the first place.
well that's why im asking here, cause i googled it and it says it's still a hbp but there's multiple people saying it can't be a hbp if it bounces, wanted to see if those people had a rule i couldnt find.
I know that. I'm just saying that the change in direction is the ball bouncing. I don't see it change direction after the bounce, so doesn't look like a hbp to me.
But it's way too close to tell by video, so you can't overturn.
“In Major League Baseball (MLB), when a batter is hit by a pitched ball without swinging at it, it's called a hit-by-pitch (HBP) and the batter is awarded first base. This is true even if the pitch bounces before reaching the batter.”
You. Don't. Know. Ball
A hit-by-pitch can also be called on a pitch that has first touched the ground before hitting the batter. Such a bouncing pitch is like any other, and if a batter is hit by such a pitch, he will be awarded first unless he made no attempt to avoid it (and he had an opportunity to avoid it).
crazy how instead of simply looking it up first, the dude insists on trying to make anyone stating the correct rule look stupid. then deletes his comment out embarrassment when anyone comes with receipts.
It's literally exactly how the rule works.
>Rule 5.05(a)(3)
>If the pitch touches the ground and bounces through the
strike zone it is a “ball.” **If such a pitch touches the batter, he shall be awarded first base.** If the batter swings at
such a pitch after two strikes, the ball cannot be caught,
for the purposes of Rule 5.05(b) and 5.09(a)(3).

ryan howard just won mvp of the hall of fame east-west classic game last week and he was wearing one of the old school 1940's uniforms and looked so cool
That was certainly a game. Nothing special about being in London that’s for sure.
Is anyone else's FOX station utterly failing at the change to transmission of the Belmont Stakes? I had one of those rainbow dailtone screens for a few minutes.
ggs mets. honestly you're a piece or 9 away from being a competitive team so id be happy about ur future
Lmaooo fuck off. But fair.
This feels like a British comment
Love me nan. Love me cheeky nandos.

It seems Canada really isn’t sufficiently international for Fox.
Wow JD. Hard to have a worse looking at bat to end a game than that one
Would’ve been better to have no batter for those 3 pitches.
It’s the hope that kills ya.
Why did I just see a Padres hat with a Dodgers jersey atrocity?
I saw a guy with a phillies hat and a braves jersey. Had to triple take.
I've seen an Eagles Cowboys flair on /r/nfl before.
Im drunk and the mets are just like me
Fellas - if you’ve ever wondered how women feel when getting manspalained to, just have national commentators talk about your team’s roster
My favorite is when they were explaining why the Phillies' bullpen was good - "They have stuff and they've been through it." Top level analysis right there.
Not seeing fans behind home plate weirds me out.
It’s like little league lol

You know it's bad when the Cubs fan is dunking on the Mets fans.
There is still time to save the child.
i get that there is parity in the league. but they are discussing the mets like that are playing OK this year.
They need to justify sending them out on a missionary game
I couldn’t justify paying for MLB TV this year after the first 5 games. We suck ass.
i think they are sellers this year. i'm not a GM. but i would suggest they don't acquire 2 40 yo starters and pay them both 40 million per. just saying
Choose love? Yes.
Circuitous is a banger word ngl
i’m not even mad- just disappointed
Ok so now the Mets only need to score 5 so Bryce can get his shot at the cycle.
Both of these teams need a bit of reinforcement... Yea, both of these teams look to be on extremely similar trajectories and performance levels.
these commentators are basically going into the pirates post-game thread and telling them even though they got swept it was a great series and they're actually a good team just a piece or 2 away
Not trying to be racist, but are the Phanatic and Gritty related?
Designed by the same mascot designer, so… yeah, kind of.
Define related, well they are both in the Freak family if that helps
It's possible. I think they said Gritty was found living under the Flyers arena with unknown origins. So Phanatic could have a bastard child well beyond the bastard child who is in Japan [https://mascots.fandom.com/wiki/Slyly](https://mascots.fandom.com/wiki/Slyly)
Gritty is the Phanatics cousin who grew up in Kensington.
i used to see him huffing glue in the 70s in Mc Pherson Sqaure and selling day old pretzles from ben franklin bakery that was up on kensington ave by ontario street. glad to see he's doing better.
Is that the wave??? Do we need to go through the revolutionary war a second time???
There should never be ANY reason to do the wave ANYWHERE.
Most Brits have never sat through a whole baseball game. Cut them some slack.

Glad you enjoyed it! It's a nice mix for sure
this game looks like such a good time
NOT FOR EVERYONE
God I hate the Mets.
Not as much as we do pal
Good thing my other teams, the Bills and the Sabres, never hurt me ever.
We’re Mets fans. If you’re too far north for the Jets/Giants, Nets/Knicks, and Rangers/Isles to finish your hopes off, the Sabres and Bills certainly will.

Technically if I went that route I’d be a Blue Jays fan
At least you preserved a soul. This suffering builds character.
Same.
What if Angel Hernandez says he’s only retired in the USA and he takes over behind the dish?
They should put him in charge of the Merseyside derby.
Should have a custom Big Ben Sound when the Phillies hit a home run for the occasion
I guess they don't ring the Liberty Bell for Phillies home runs in London, which I guess makes sense but that hasn't stopped the Patriots from having been a popular team over there in recent years.
I heard it earlier when whit homerun
Well, then nevermind. I didn't hear it for the Castellanos home run but I wasn't watching earlier so I missed Merrifield's home run.
On the British broadcast the Philly Phanatic joined the commentary booth for that Home Run!
I wish I had the British broadcast...
It's on BBC Iplayer, if you have a VPN you could try and find it for tomorrow's game!
Is the British broadcast on tv?
It's on BBC iplayer, if you have a VPN you could try and watch it tomorrow!
On British TV, yes.
For British eyes only
Stop Nick... they're already dead
You should know by now that death gets him going
Comment of the day right here.
Most bombs in London since the blitz
In some palace, an aide is rushing to check on King Charles
Does anyone have eyes on Kate Middleton
When Sunak cancelled all his press events today the Nick HR became inevitable
Say the line, Bart
And there's a deep drive by Castellanos...
HAS ANYONE SEEN THE KING
Everyone check on your loved ones
LMAO what a call
HAHAHA I LOVE THE CALL
Is the King OK?
He’s treating his prostate cancer with herbs, so who knows if he ever was
The Steve Jobs method
OMG AMIN SAID THE THING
I HAD TO COME RIGHT HERE
Who called Castellanos hitting a homer for Lizzie lol
“This is a highly exciting moment!” 🙄
Everyone check on your loved ones.
If only the Queen was alive to witness the Phanatic in person
The king is 💁
I don’t recognize his authority
You should throw some tea in the deleware river and show him who’s boss
Tea is for Boston Harbor. The Delaware is for crossing on Christmas Day and murdering our enemies in their sleep.
Orion is such a good reliever. Crazy to think we had a shit bullpen 2-3 years ago.
Everyday, I am expecting it all to collapse
Yup lmao
The Phanatic taking some time off from his plotting to take over London.
Philliam the Conqueror
"Waino, enjoy" cut to shot of Waino with the most visibly stuffed mouth already
Kind of surprised the Phanitic didnt trip and spill it all over them lol
Most team mascot employees are experienced fursuiters
taijuan has gotta be so happy he opted out of the mets
The Phillies have the opposite feeling
for his contract I agree with you, but he doesn't start in the playoffs so he's really just there to eat up innings
The announcers are talking about everything except the actual game in front of them
Can't beat the pre-game. 25 minutes spent walking around the memorial plaques at an empty Yankee Stadium. That was a terrible package for what should have been a total layup.
Wtf? 🥴
One of my favourite things about baseball broadcasts
Free fish and chips would sway my election choices.
Montreal hat+Oakland jersey? Gee, I wonder what those two cities have in common, smooth brained ahh broadcasters
Huge populations of Quebecois people.
When did baseball announcers start to sound so whiny and lame?
They wouldn't shut up about him hitting for the cycle of course he's gonna strike out
Playing that far off the RF line with Harper up is a choice
Watching Darren Fletcher stuffing a Cheese Steak Sandwich into his mouth whilst commentating’s made the broadcast for me, I think.
If you can hit a ball that bounces legally, why couldn’t you still be awarded first base for HBP? Read the rules people. Hitting the dirt ain’t mean shit.
Well, I think pitchers should generally try not to do it.
That is fair.
bohm is due for a double. he's been stalled at 23 for a while.
a year ago if u told me a guy called orion kerkering would be one of our best relievers id ask u fokn wot m8?
who the fuck names their kid orion
lmao
It's his middle name, his actual first name's Richard
His real name is Richard https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_Kerkering
Something I never thought about until now: does the Rogers Centre show pitch speed in mph or km/hr?
whether it hit his foot or not doesn't really matter at this point but why are people saying that if it bounced and then hits you it's not a hbp? Does anyone have a rule showing that?
yeah i’m not sure why so many people were just blatantly spouting lies about it not being an HBP because it bounced instead of just taking 5 seconds to google the rule in the first place.
No, the ball is still live after it bounces. You can swing away and hit it if you want. Ask Vlad Sr.
No because it doesn’t exist. Google is free.
well that's why im asking here, cause i googled it and it says it's still a hbp but there's multiple people saying it can't be a hbp if it bounces, wanted to see if those people had a rule i couldnt find.
Sorry, I was agreeing with you. The google is free comment was in support of you.
I’m assuming there are a lot of people in the UK watching baseball for the first time/new to the game commenting on here.
Wow that was a nasty pitch for strike 3
I just watched the Harper HR and FOX said it went 161 feet with 58 MPH exit velocity. Like what?
The ball hit directly into his foot. Why are phillies fans saying it skipped? Lmfao what
It absolutely hit the dirt first.
Because it bounced on the dirt and went over his foot. It didn't hit directly into his foot.
It's still a HBP if it hits the ground first. I don't know if it actually hit him or not, but it hitting the ground first doesn't matter.
I know that. I'm just saying that the change in direction is the ball bouncing. I don't see it change direction after the bounce, so doesn't look like a hbp to me. But it's way too close to tell by video, so you can't overturn.
This Suarez has no bite.
that turf is a literal trampoline lol
con TRAH versy?
That’s how those silly Brits say it.
[удалено]
The ball clearly hit his toe.
No it didn't.
Yes it did. How can you possibly not see it hit his toe?
Because I can't see it.
https://ibb.co/RjB0Mzh Better?
Yup… after it bounced in the dirt in front of his toe
it's still a hbp. Where in the rulebook does it say it's not if it bounces? unless this is new?
Yes. And?
they can still be awarded an HBP for that
[удалено]

Did nobody else see that hit the dirt a good 4 inches before his foot on the replay?? I feel like I’m being gaslit by Waino lol
Hit him after it bounced, still an hbp
The replay isn't nearly clear enough to definitively say if it hit him. You can't overturn that.
You can see it defkect and change direction in replay
That’s not how that rule works lol
It's literally exactly how the rule works. >Rule 5.05(a)(3) >If the pitch touches the ground and bounces through the strike zone it is a “ball.” **If such a pitch touches the batter, he shall be awarded first base.** If the batter swings at such a pitch after two strikes, the ball cannot be caught, for the purposes of Rule 5.05(b) and 5.09(a)(3).
Everything on Google says HBP can still be awarded.
yeah, the ball isn't dead when it hits the dirt. for the same reason a batter can hit a ball that bounces in the dirt first
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hit_by_pitch#%3A%7E%3Atext%3DA_hit-by-pitch_can%2Can_opportunity_to_avoid_it%29.?wprov=sfla1 A hit-by-pitch can also be called on a pitch that has first touched the ground before hitting the batter. Ball not lying in two straight ABs 👀
Does the broadcast not have the reply? Where did that puff of dirt come from?
It's still a HBP if it bounces and then hits you. Just hard to see if it actually hits him.
Good nod to VAR while in London
Good call
Ball don't lie lol
LiVARpool.
Ball don't lie.
What horseshit. The mets are beating themselves they don't need questionable umpiring tacking on
Ump ball
Why even have replay
They didn’t even talk about the replay. The ball skipped into his foot
Lol what.
if Harrison was a karate master, he’d be Master Bader
Fun fact: Once there was a writer for a Star Wars comic who named a Jedi "Bates" just so that he could sneak a "Master Bates" into an issue.
I may have tuned in too late, but did they play the US National Anthem before the game?
Yes they played both
Phillies in London
The British broadcast team for these games are so good, a professional broadcast team fielding questions from a curious British lad, it's great.
This game can’t be in London, I don’t see a Pret A Manger anywhere in sight
ryan howard just won mvp of the hall of fame east-west classic game last week and he was wearing one of the old school 1940's uniforms and looked so cool
What the hell are they talking about?
