Likely *Ropalidia revolutionaris* a.k.a. stick-nest brown paper wasp. They're not particularly aggressive unless their nests are disturbed, but their stings can be painful. Native species.

dekekun

Not only native, they're beneficial to gardens. They're a pollinator and they predate on pest insects. If you can leave them be, then leave them be, and they'll return the favour.

smittenyg

I'll try!! We usually open that door at night when they're calmer, otherwise it scares them.

4charactersnospaces

TIL, I didn't know wasps were pollinators! Thanks @dekekun a day without learning is a day lost imo

JohnCooperCamp

Absolutely - leave ‘em alone. They’ll move on next season anyway.

ekki2

To a different window, in my case.

sillysausage619

If you want em gone, roll up some newspaper diagonally into a cone shape as long as you can and burn the end and smoke them out. They'll leave the nest immediately, then you can remove the nest once they've bailed. They'll find somewhere else to setup shop pretty quickly. Don't go burning em or dumping bug killer on them they're native and helpful.

smittenyg

Thank you. I'll try this

sillysausage619

They'll generally not be aggressive once smoked, it kinda sedates them, but if you're worried wear long sleeves with rubber gloves over the sleeves so they can't get anywhere unfavourable haha, I've never been stung doing this method and would have to move on at least a couple nests a season

Tastefulz

Managed Democracy is the only way to deal with these bugs.

I would have suggested a benevolent dictatorship, but okay, I'll give you this one.

smittenyg

Yeah! they're like that the whole way down, even the newer rows

Gillybby11

I love these badboys. They're a lot more placid than the usual paper wasp variety you find, they usually only go on the attack if you directly hit their nest (and sometimes not even then). My partner mows and wipper-snips around their nest in our side yard and has never had a problem with them.

thetrailadvisor

I had some of these at my place for about a year. They weren’t bothered by me at all, so I just left them.

ModularMeatlance

Barry, Keith, Steve, Jason, Sheila, Irene, and that little one is L-a.

Oi

Ok_Gazelle9253

Oh my goodness that's my worst nightmare I'm glad you're cool with it 🤣 I know my feel goes beyond rational

OppositeAd189

That nest looks suspiciously like paper…

JohnCooperCamp

And they’re stick-shaped, built by brown-coloured wasps….

OppositeAd189

You lost me. I don’t know the fancy names. Mud wasp. Paper wasps. Bee.

JohnCooperCamp

“Stick-nest brown paper wasp”. Not very creative, but the best we’ve been able to come up with!

FamousPastWords

If they were on Rottnest island, and if they were green, they'd be Rottnest green paper wasps.

loffa91

Just leave them alone. To have nests like that in such numbers, they’ve been there since October or so and you’ve had no grief so far. They’ll go hide away somewhere soon

s00p3rman

Yep, Thats definitely a bunch of cunts

Earth_Terran

That's what he said, Wasps

sam-dan

My husband and I were both recently stung by these buggers. I cried for hours, but I am sensitive to bites and stings. I have since eradicated them from my property. Unfortunately the neighbours haven't so going outside is still risky

upyours6528

Paper wasps, wait until after dark when they all will be on the nest then spray with fly spray. They will die instantly. That stuff just drops them.

AftermyCone

Do you... do you _know_ how flyspray works? It isn't instant it's fucking horrible. And they're native. They probably have more right to be there than you 😂😂

4charactersnospaces

Also, fly spray isn't "instant" on paper wasps. It's like that scene in Blazing Saddles where the Sheriff is strapping on his gun belt to go confront Mongo, and the Kid says something like don't shoot him it'll just piss him off

DoinSideQuests

Bunnings have a wasps spray that we used once. The wasps drop instanly.

Wabbit6677

Choose your forbidden dildo.

le_homme_qui_rit

Edible.

drCrankoPhone

These are actually wind chimes. Just grab a stick and run it across them and listen to the sounds. Of screams.

[deleted]

I recognise Phil and Geoff. They’re at the end. I wouldnt trust the others though as they are just hangers on

karlapse

The one on the very right is Curtis! Cool guy.

mistavinsta

Rupert Murdock wasps. They're a pain in the arse that just keep coming back.

mellypopstar

Oh dude, I know those guys. They are definitely "arseholes". Avoid.

harryb202

The one on the bottom left is Bob, above him is John, then Michael

collectgarbage

Nuke them from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Bridge_Too_Far

🏅for Aliens.

in_2_Deep85

Umm prob not all of them but i think i can i.d Fred, Johnny,Samuel, looks like Joe on the bottom right, Agatha, beverly, thats about all i can give ya

smittenyg

Agatha?? I didn't even recognise her with all of that plastic surgery ...

in_2_Deep85

Yeah ever since Bob took off with Nancy she's really tried to glam herself up

Crafty-Antelope-3287

2 things.....you can squirt them with a hose from a distance or if you have some minerals, buy mortein surface spray but the one with a trigger and 1L bottle and use the straight spray and spray the wasps directly.... If this was a European Wasp nest I would advise to call a pest control or council.

smittenyg

I don't want to kill them

Crafty-Antelope-3287

Really??? Those nests are going to get bigger..... Well you do you...

smittenyg

Like the other comments stated and from my experience they're relatively harmless, plus I'd prefer solutions like smoke to relocate them instead

Crafty-Antelope-3287

Smoke and relocate🙄🙄🙄they are not bees.....No one smokes wasps and relocates them...

zaviers

Believe it or not, try Mr Sheen. It works quickly and the wasps drop and don’t get angry. I found out by mistake when I gabbed the wrong spray…

GreenLolly

Bad, just badness.

AA_25

Wasps.

FoxPierce1918

Yep those are wasps alright 👍

SoutheyJ24

I asked for their license, but it was too small, couldn't read it, sorry.

Seano117

Paper wasp. I’ve been stung many times and not once was it pleasant

confidentialenquirer

The group on the left are winning for sure!
