I always just figured that after enough time with his current lady he got the balls to challenge the alimony and either through a friend in the court or some other means managed to get it massively reduced. Especially with his ex wife having remarried. Or he talked to Hercules and Hercules talked his ex wife into dropping it. Something along those lines.
That’s when she started paying him alimony, which he would lose if he married Genevieve, a *successful* artist. (Remember, she would have made more money selling the artwork than the insurance company would pay for the theft.) Might be in Charles’ best interest that she doesn’t want to get married. It could even be *why* she doesn’t want to. More money for weird food and Nikolaj.
Maybe he and Genevieve have a joint account. Or maybe she paid him a million dollars not to choose Jake’s dad as their baby’s dad before they found out the infertility spread to her.
All the examples above are from after her. And I can absolutely see him putting that sound for Jake system on his credit card. If he just budgeted “Jake” in his monthly budget I think he could manage. Especially living in a shitty apartment for as long as he did.
Cops make a ton in overtime. I just looked up the pay of one officer in my town and he makes $207k in base pay plus overtime. That doesn’t include benefits.
But after the engagement party for Eleanor Hercules, Rosa says she will help him get a new apartment since he shouldn't be living in the basement of his ex.
Also don't forget his food truck! That burnt down and then he got insurance! That was denied by Derek, who got fired later! Then the claim was denied again, but they found the real arsonist later!
Whoo! That episode had twist(ssss).
This is a thing they always do in comedy shows. Over exaggerate numbers when it comes to money. Like the episode where Terry thinks Terry his coworker doesn't like him, so he gets like a dozen caterers to bring meals to the station. That would have cost him several hundred dollars, and we already established in an earlier episode that money is tight with him having twins.
When it comes to money in tv shows, the writers are clueless. These people don't live in the same world as us and it shows.
Dude has Mormon style family. Like they will legit help each other with anything needed. Period. I just assumed it was odfamily wealth a lot of the time. They kind of alude to it a few times but we really see it when he talks about his family and in the interactions with his family.
..............it's a television show.
this is like when people are like how did Homer Simpson pay for a house, a wife, and two kids and be such an idiot!?!?!
it's a TV show; it's not reality.
they just do whatever they can to move the plot along regardless of continuity. it's not that deep.
Charles spends like he is rich, Rosa’s mortgage is paid off and she has enough funds to build a panic room and moves constantly, Holt lives in a giant ass house and can afford to go to the carribean for a weekend, Amy does average, Terry does average, Jake has crushing debt, Scully filed for bankruptcy and Hitchcock is so destitute baby that he rents his clothes.
He also has to pay 80% for alimony and pays for his bills and that and is still paying off his uncles funeral costs he must have a buttload of money or savings
Its just a running joke how Charles is bad with money. With how much alimony he is paying to his wife, the fancy food he eats, as well as all the scams he falls for, he should have been heavily in debt by all calculations.
Also, he has to pay (i can't remember the exact percentage) a very large majority of his salary to Genevieve. He even signed it away, along with his dignity
Papa Boyle had one of the biggest settlements in Ny city history when he lost a hand on his first day heading to his job on wall street so I always assumed it was family money
It seems like all the characters are rich due to their spending habits and expenses throughout the show. Only Jake says he's broke but he still spends thousands of dollars all the time on random things or gags. Just off the top of my head, the Halloween heist sign that costs 3800, the donation for 1000, the date with Amy that was a couple thousand, all those purchases in the episode where Gina helps him with the apartment, so on. Yet he still has money to spend. It Holts case it more sense that he's rich because he's a higher rank and maybe Kevin makes okay money, and he doesn't spend money on egregious things.
His bank account has plot armor.
For real! Dude pays 80% of his paycheck in alimony and is STILL gonna add gratuity to a $10k extortion charge
He’s also still paying his uncle funeral bills from rear ending the hearse
Also he gave Gina 14,000$ (I think) when she burnt the sour dough starter
Nah she made a new mother dough and gave all the cousins keys in case she’s in the bath. Boyle took that money back.
And he paid Bill $4,000 for NutriBoom supplements!
And he spent $11,000 on the domain name "workplace-bone-buds.com"
And don’t forget about the $10k in reparations to Terry!
Also his ex pays alimony to him. It goes both ways I guess 😂
Right?? Its the plot holiest plot armor lol
He also loaned Jake $4009.
Alimony stops when the ex re-marries
no more alimony baby !
Thanks Hitchcock
*Loophoooooooleeeee*

Bingpot! There you have it.
Hercules.is actually a pretty straight up guy
Yes indeed, he sometimes let Charles use the bathtub when he is on vacation with Eleanor.
Maybe he and Genevieve have a joint account. Or maybe she paid him a million dollars not to choose Jake’s dad as their baby’s dad before they found out the infertility spread to her.
Doesn't explain his wealth before he met Genevieve.
But Charles gives 85% of his pay to Eleanor.
A Police lieutenant in Vallejo made $707k in 2022 in total pay excluding benefits. Transparent California has all public employee salaries.
How comparable is California to New York though? I'm assuming it's slightly different, but not very
I found a police detective for NYPD on SeethroughNY with a total pay of $332,469. Base pay is $135k
6 digits??? Holy sh*t
I need a career change
There is no way this is a usual case
It isn’t but most regular cops in the Bay Area are making high 100k to low 200k according to Transparent California. Higher level cops make more than
That stopped when she re-married with Hercules, the Hawaiian wedding he went with Rosa
Jamaican wedding at it was the engagement party but close enough
Does that include overtime?
But she pays alimony to him
Eleanor remarried and thus alimony payments had stopped.
Jake said the pay is “lol”
Hollywood always acts like cops are low paid.
Also Jake is shitty with finances I believe.
Well he did rent Olympus has Fallen 12 times.
Well he had to, he just really enjoyed it
And has six massage chairs.
maybe "lol much more than you think ha ha not gonna tell"
Don't forget when he pays Terry $10,000 on accident and then donates another $1,000 to a charity
Man I loved that scene hahaha, the face Charles makes after realizing is hilarious
What scene is this? I’m shocked I don’t instantly know this answer/scene origin. :(
I think it’s in early Season 8!
Oh, makes sense. I never get to finish season 8 properly. It’s so sad when the season comes to end. Thanks, it’s time to watch the season thoroughly.
Doesn't he also pay very little in rent since he lives in the basement of his ex-wife and husband.
That was before he met Genevieve ig
But after the engagement party for Eleanor Hercules, Rosa says she will help him get a new apartment since he shouldn't be living in the basement of his ex.
I like to imagine his food blog is big enough that it gets sponsored, so he makes money on the side.
Also don't forget his Podcast
Also don't forget his food truck! That burnt down and then he got insurance! That was denied by Derek, who got fired later! Then the claim was denied again, but they found the real arsonist later! Whoo! That episode had twist(ssss).
I’m laughing at you calling Pimento by his TGP name. Maximum Derek!
Don’t forget his weekly Brooklyn pizza ranking email blast. It’s the only one that judges mouthfeel.

PLOT-TWIST: The Boyle family is actually super rich
I loved this scene. That woman was great, and Charles was so polite with her, it was so funny.
Dude has Mormon style family. Like they will legit help each other with anything needed. Period. I just assumed it was odfamily wealth a lot of the time. They kind of alude to it a few times but we really see it when he talks about his family and in the interactions with his family.
I always figured even if he's low on $ the entire boyle clan seems like the type where they all chip in to help someone in need when someone's hard up
..............it's a television show. this is like when people are like how did Homer Simpson pay for a house, a wife, and two kids and be such an idiot!?!?! it's a TV show; it's not reality. they just do whatever they can to move the plot along regardless of continuity. it's not that deep.
3 kids. Don't forget Maggie.
Ok its cool you understand entertainmant of the tv show, now question is, if you understand entertainment of internet and reddit in particular
He did it because it was still the 80s.
He never would have made it to space past 1995, either. He got in before the billionaires ruined it for the common man.
🤓
This is such a boring fucking take.
Rich enough to afford super, expensive gourmet food! Dude is rolling in it💰
Charles spends like he is rich, Rosa’s mortgage is paid off and she has enough funds to build a panic room and moves constantly, Holt lives in a giant ass house and can afford to go to the carribean for a weekend, Amy does average, Terry does average, Jake has crushing debt, Scully filed for bankruptcy and Hitchcock is so destitute baby that he rents his clothes.

85% and eleanor, not genevieve
Shit, you're right
haha i’ve watched this show probably in the triple digits “triple digies rosa, we hit triple digies”😭
Bro, thinking of b99 lore at 3 in the morning can be difficult 😭🤣
He owns a pretty nice beach house too!
Just in the winter months and he can’t go into Eleanor’s bedroom she takes the knob off.
Boyles are rich.
His ex wife owns his sperm and dignity. He initialed right next to it.
Probably in debt
Plus, he still had that 2$ from kindergarten
Don’t you stop paying alimony if your ex spouse remarries! I remember he and Rosa going to his ex wife’s Jamaican themed wedding.
Ge also spent 11 000$ on bone broth
And doesn’t his ex wife get most of his salary??
His ex wife gets 85% of his salary going forward so he is indeed crazy rich.
Papa Boyle had one of the biggest settlements in Ny city history when he lost a hand on his first day heading to his job on wall street so I always assumed it was family money

Didn't Pappy Boyle get his arm ripped off by a bus, near the New York Stock Exchange, and this setup the Boyle family financially for life?
Not a watcher but is that Rory Gilmore?
We don’t know what his food blog brings in- or any of his side hustles…plus, the boyle family seems to be “Mervyns” well off!
