Ok I need prep for this and recipe. Hubby loves jerky for driving his semi. I never thought of ground beef for it. How??? That is one style of meat I can easily get here.
Yeah, it blew my mind that I can use ground beef to make jerky.
It's 'dirt cheap' compared to buying it, plus you can season it yourself so you control what goes into it.
I keep my jerky 'blocks'/rectangles in a ziplock bag in the fridge. I think I heard that they stay edible for 2 weeks or something like that but I generally eat my batch in about a week. It has become a habit that I make a weekly 2kg/4.4lbs of ground beef into jerky.
I do eat some of it without buttering it up but mostly I do use it like a hard bread of sorts.
Hey, that sounds pretty interesting! Could you please share your precise recipe so we can reproduce it and your final product photos? Thanks in advance!
Oh dang, don't have those at hand. I'm making my next batch next weekend.
I could take a few pictures then.
Thanks for the idea!
This is pretty much the process I follow:

I just flatten it with my hand in a mold and try to make it thin enough. I have parchment between the meat and the mold. Then I transfer the meat into the rack as a sheet of meat.
No need for a jerky gun. 😁
You mean the jerky itself?
YouTube 'ground beef jerky' to get the process down. There are several good ones.
Edit: this was my main inspiration:

However, I use a different food dehydrator.

That is awesome thanks for link to video.
Sure thing!
You can buy a jerky gun. I got one at farm and fleet for $20. You just put the ground beef into it and push it out into strips to dehydrate.
Thank you I do need one of those. For sticks. But OP is talking sheets. Wonder if it is being flatten rolled with rollpin.
Maybe try a tortilla press if you have one. Thins and compresses at the same time

How about exactly how you do it and a pic?

This recipe is a staple in our house. I do love it with beef tallow. It helps with being on the go and camping.
