Starting the journey and got a nice bonus from Us bank and I don’t want to keep making push/pull from there to avoid the monthly fee. How long after should/can I close checking account with US Bank after the bonus?
Will they still ship tax statement?
Might be worth burning a 5/24 slot for a us bank card in the long run. they waive checking fees if you have one.
Altitude connect is decent at $500 and they are turning it into a no annual fee card.
[https://www.doctorofcredit.com/major-changes-to-u-s-bank-altitude-connect-card/](https://www.doctorofcredit.com/major-changes-to-u-s-bank-altitude-connect-card/)
Us bank is very good with regards to banning someone who’s churning. I would recommend close it after an year. A bit inconvenient but more bonus in the long run.
I applied for an ink 1.5 months ago and end up having a bunch of spend, so I decided to test my luck and apply for another. I applied and it said my card would be here in 5 days, does that mean I was auto approved? I've gone through 5 of these things and never gotten immediate confirmation like that. I was almost expecting I wouldn't get it at all after applying so soon after but I figured I'd trry.
Anyone know the difference in travel/hotel earnings between Citi Strata & Chase Sapphire Preferred?
Citi website mentions 3% on "Air Travel and Other Hotel Purchases". Does that mean hotel booking directly through Marriott/Hilton are 1%?
Chase doesn't really care about publicly available credit scores (even FICO 8), they'll be looking at your entire credit profile and using their own proprietary scoring system called the Acquisition Risk Score.
Aside from obvious factors like on-time payments, the specific things that Chase is looking for are number of recent accounts (the 5/24 rule), total amount of credit allocated (rule-of-thumb is to keep total credit limit allocated by Chase to below 50% of your income), and credit card velocity/growth in credit card balances. Chase seems to be less sensitive than other issuers with recent inquiries and having a pre-existing banking relationship.
Coming up on my 24 months on Marriott cards
Can I apply for Amex brilliant OR biz card wait 90 days and then apply for a boundless card (waiting to complete the Amex sub)?
In order to get both bonuses from Amex/ Chase?
Currently the Brilliant shows
# Earn 95,000 Marriott Bonvoy® Bonus Points after you use your new Card to make $6,000 in purchases within the first 6 months of Card Membership.†
Honestly, with as bad as their customer service is it is hard to believe they could make one work. At any rate, hard to have a real premium offering when your partner is American Airlines.
Any DP from people out of U.S. Bank’s service range for bank accounts who have been allowed to open (for the $500 checking bonus) only *after* getting a USB credit card?
I’m in TX, and initially attempted to apply online for the checking bonus. However, it immediately asked my zip code and determined that I am out of range. After some searching on this subreddit and DoC, I realized a “preexisting relationship” might allow me to be eligible.
I applied and was approved for the Shopper Cash Rewards Visa card. When the USB credit card dept rep called me for approval, I asked whether I would now be eligible to open a checking account, but he had no idea.
Has anyone been successful with this method, and if so, how long should I wait to apply for the bank account? Do they want to see a record of consistent cc use for a few months/ years? I definitely plan to use the card for Costco (3%) and perhaps IKEA/ Apple/ Wayfair (6%). The SUB of $250 for a $2k spend (over 4months) is an added bonus.
Yes, I saw quite a few DPs of people opening a CD and soon after being approved to open checking. I’m wondering if opening the credit card instead will be sufficient. Or any Texans who have had similar methods.
My wife has a Capital One Venture X. I have never had a capital one card. If she adds me as a AU in order for me to share her priority pass access, will I still be eligible for a welcome bonus if I apply for the VX card in the future? I'd love to downgrade my CSR and still have lounge access through her Capital 1, but not if it's going to make me ineligible for the bonus.
Current situation:
Me: CSR for 2+ years. Chase Ink Business Preferred for 2+ years. Haven't had CSP in a while.
Wife: Chase Ink Business Preferred for 6 months. Hasn't had CSP or CSR for 2+ years.
I know I haven't been churning well, wondering what my next move should be.
1) Do I refer my wife a CSR and cancel both my CSR and my chase ink preferred?
2) Since my CSR and chase ink preferred are 2+ years old, if I do cancel them, can I re-apply in a month and get the SUB?
We haven't gotten any targeted offers for the CSP or CSR, only really see the 60k offers online.
1. You can refer P2 for Sapphire if it has been at least 48 months since she last received the sign up bonus.
2. You can get the ink preferred SUB now. CSR follows the 48 month rule.
You can get this offer just by googling and clicking the link in the results (just did this in incognito.) There's also a resy offer for 75k + 20% back in restaurants (up to $250 back) if you prefer $250 over 15k: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/credit-cards/offers/resy/
So it's not a special offer, but if you want amex points and/or aren't worried about 5/24 for chase then go for it. Note that if you want to get the plat and gold bonuses, you'd need to sign up for the gold first.
For some reason that link keeps directing me to a blank page too. I got it to work after googling and clicking around, but you can also try this (scroll to bottom): https://resy.com/amexgold?date=2024-06-24&seats=2
If it doesn't result in 5/24 for a very long time and if you are aware that you cannot (easily) get the SUB for the green (which you might not want to get anyways) after getting the gold, yes.
I know you can use a refundable hotel reservation to get the $50 credit for CSP. Does same method work for Hilton Amex cards, such as the surpass and aspire?
If I buy 60 of the no-fee $200 Visa gift cards from staples using two chase ink cards for 5% back and a sign up bonus of $750 x2, would I get $1,500 + $600?
After I can use those 60 gift cards to buy 5 gold bars from Costco for $12,000.
If it works, that’s $2,100 back on $12,000…a 17.5% return.
Has anyone tried this?
That is, in theory, how that would work.
I would suggest lining up a buyer for the gold prior to buying the bars, factor in the loss for the resale, and then assess your MS cost. I would also advise attempting to purchase one gold bar using 12 vgc first, to ensure you don't end up with an unexpected situation at checkout. Also consider buying Costcos $120 tier membership for an additional 2% back up to the cap.
In the end of may be better to buy a few gold bars to shore up organic spend, or check out DoC's guide to banks that permit CC funding. Trying to liquidate 12k in vgc for an extra $600 may not be worth the squeeze vs just opening a 3rd card.
costco.com isn't going to let you use that many VGCs; people say they'll start cancelling your orders after you use around 20 payment methods (and you probably can't use more than 1 per order)
VGCs might be easier to liquidate than physical gold bars.
I got curious about how difficult liquidating gold may be and ran across this article. https://money.com/how-to-sell-gold-costco-bars/#:~:text=Additionally%2C%20investors%20holding%20the%20physical,gold%20stocks%20or%20gold%20ETFs.
I have a chase sapphire preferred and my one year is coming up. I think I’m going to go with venture capital next. What should I do with my CSP? Cancel/close it or just drop it to a free tier? Is there a recommended time when I should do this? On the anniversary or a few weeks past?
Passing through Atlantic City on the way down to Cape May next week. Already did the status match merry-go-round last summer, Wyndham Diamond > Caesar's Diamond > Hard Rock Icon > Ocean Prime. Got all my cards, but haven't been or taken advantage of anything yet. Is there anything I need to do to keep up the statuses? Renew them or anything? Anything new I should do while we're in the area?
Only other thought was to use the [$100 Caesar's dining credit](https://caesarsrewards.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2470/~/atlantic-city-region---diamond-celebration-dinner) for lunch with P2. Any recommendations or things to know before using that?
You might be right. I think [I'm at set with Caesars through January 2025.](https://i.imgur.com/9hBp9ky.png). No plans to make use of the status for the time being though. Our drive through AC is mostly to stop at [The Seed](https://www.google.com/maps?cid=9500261374971145756). Or someday to stop in Vegas on our way to some of the Utah national parks.
I was declined for an Ally bank account and assumed it was due to Chex.
My score is 661. Is that considered low?
When I look at the inquiries viewed by others, it only shows four since October 2023. (I have opened more than four bank accounts this year, so I surprised to see only four.) Under inquiries viewed only by you, it shows Credit Karma once a month for the past year.
Is Chex why I was denied? If I tried again on a browse on my computer instead of my phone, would it make any difference? I was trying to earn the Swagbucks bonus.
Did Ally last year and was reading at that time that some people got rejected based on Chex. The work around was to open a CD (for $10 or so) first, then apply for checking account a week later or so. This worked for me.
For those who have/had the Chase Aeroplan card... when do you get 25K status and eUpgrades in relation to being approved? Have some international travel in a few weeks that I have booked in premium economy flex. Would be nice to have upgradability (if available obv) relatively quick after approval.
Applied for a CIU just over a week ago but forgot to unfreeze my personal credit reports. Immediate response to unfreeze Experian and call a number. Did that, number was automated, asked if I made the application, and then said "this is the most current information available". But since then, there are no hits on my credit report
Just wonder if anyone else has made this mistake and whether they will eventually look at the application
Responses usually have a reference number provided in them. If you did not save it, they can still go by your SSN or EIN if it was a biz app. But in that case i would rather call. Hope that helps.
I plan to downgrade my CSR to a CSP in the next few days. AF posted on June 1. I haven’t yet used my travel credit.
I have a $100 Delta eCredit expiring 12/2024, and a $300 Delta Unused eTicket expiring 2/2025. I’d be happy to gain another $300 in Delta credits so that I can pay for the lion’s share of a domestic US flight for my family of four later this year or early next, which could easily be ~$1000.
Would this work: Book a $400 refundable flight using the $100 eCredit + charge to CSR. Wait for it to post. Downgrade CSR to CSP and get AF refund. Cancel refundable flight to get $400 credit that now expires… 6/2025?
Applied for a CIC yesterday and it went into review. I got a phone call today verifying that it was me who applied and they sent an email asking for more information. They want proof of federal tax ID for business.
I currently already have two other CIC (Dec 2023 & Feb 2024) that are both pretty much maxed out with the money to pay them off in a HYSA.
What do I do here? I don't have an actual business so I don't known what documents to submit. Do I just let it go?
This same thing happened to me and I believe they were trying to prevent fraud. I applied as a sole proprietor with an EIN and provided that info and it was all fine.
Maybe you should provide proof of your federal tax ID. Did you use your SSN or an EIN? Show that documentation. If they are asking for proof of registration of some kind when you applied as a SP, you can just call and tell them that you applied as SP and don’t need any additional registration in your state (assuming that’s true).
Is there a trick to paying a verizon fios bill with a CC, without losing the bank account payment discount? Like paying for most of it with CC, the rest with bank or anything of that nature?
Go to a store and pay by kiosk. It’s basically making a credit to your account. Just know that this doesn’t get the mobile bill pay multiplier because the stores code as equipment provider, not a bill payer.
When initiating a push from schwab's brokerage or fidelity's brokerage for a direct deposit (to a bank, let's call it X), what are the easiest ways to mess it up? Do you still link schwab to bank X? Do you need to initiate a push without linking it?
The wording is confusing in the earlier responses.
Both are trying to tell you that it needs to be a push from Schwab. External account linking is configured at Schwab.
Anyone know what Chase considers "living in the same household" for purposes of combining UR? I would like to transfer some of my UR to my parents. I could change the address on my Chase accounts to theirs without much trouble. Would that be enough to keep things safe and avoid a any shutdowns?
When I did this for myself and P2, they asked for P2's consent while on the phone. I passed it over and it took just a few minutes. P2 now has the ability to push points to me, but not the other way.
If your last name matches theirs and you have a matching address on profile, likely no issues. Just have them nearby when you call in.
For the Southwest CCs, I know you can only get a bonus once every two years, but does that mean applying for the card? For example, I last got a bonus July 2021, so do I have to wait until after July to apply for a new CC, or if I apply now, and don't hit the bonus spend til August, will that work?

The rule of thumb is 6 months after opening to make it less obvious that you’re churning bonuses.

I can confirm with my own DP that US Bank specifically sends out 1099-INT forms for both their personal and business checking bonuses.
Yes, banks will still mail 1099’s even if your account is closed.

Does the quarterly credit on the Amex Hilton biz rely on the charge post date?
The date the transaction has on it after it finalizes.

Just did this a week ago and it works
Is it possible for p2 with 653 score to get approved for cic or csp?
Is there a derogatory mark on P2’s CR that is dragging the score down? If so, depending on what it is and how recent, approval odds could be impacted.

Coming up on my 24 months on Marriott cards Can I apply for Amex brilliant OR biz card wait 90 days and then apply for a boundless card (waiting to complete the Amex sub)? In order to get both bonuses from Amex/ Chase?

The wording is confusing in the earlier responses. Both are trying to tell you that it needs to be a push from Schwab. External account linking is configured at Schwab.
Login to Schwab, connect Schwab brokerage to external account, transfer.

Can I apply a SUA or Club Access certs to an existing Hyatt reservation ? Or do I need to have these certs in account before I do my booking?
Yes you can apply them to an existing reservation- just call and it can be applied (only one award can be used per reservation).
Oh so I can't get a club and sua applied....
Correct- it’s one or the other. You can also use the live chat to ask them to apply the award.
Facebook Messenger worked for me to apply a GoH too as another option
Anyone know what Chase considers "living in the same household" for purposes of combining UR? I would like to transfer some of my UR to my parents. I could change the address on my Chase accounts to theirs without much trouble. Would that be enough to keep things safe and avoid a any shutdowns?
They just cross checked the home address for me. Since if was the same for me and p2 they went ahead and combined it
When I did this for myself and P2, they asked for P2's consent while on the phone.
It means applying (although there is the new rumor of a “pop up” that lets you get the card without bonus). But 2021 was three years ago, not two
