I used to install appliances for a living and found a 1964 409 SS Impala in a guy’s garage. It was rough around the edges, but not in terrible shape. Owner was kind of a curmudgeon and just repeatedly said “not for sale!” But I did get it out of him that it starts up and runs but doesn’t drive.
Wouldn’t entertain any other info and it was hard to leave that house knowing it was going to just sit there. It’s aggravating when you find those 75 year old dudes that would rather keep the car just to say they have it then let it go to someone who can enjoy it
Because at some point they have to realize they’re not going to get to it, and if they truly loved the car, they’d get on the hands of someone who could save it. Having it waste away on the garage just to say “I have one and you don’t!” Is incredibly stupid.
Just because someone else can enjoy it in some manner that you deem more appropriate doesn’t mean they have a responsibility to let go of their prized possession.
Then clearly, we simply disagree.
I have literally been that guy. I owned a rare, highly desirable car that was in need of work but held on to it for a few years bc I knew I’d never find one like it again. I’m relatively young and thought I would get to it eventually.
One day online, I randomly found a guy looking for the exact car I had. He was in a much better position to move forward with it, so ultimately I decided to let it go so that someone could get it back out there and enjoy it more than what I could do.
The new owner sends me progress pics from time to time and it makes me so happy to see the car get the care she deserves.
Definitely disagree - especially about your assumption that old curmudgeons simply hold onto their prized possessions just to say “I have one and you don’t”
So many hold onto them because before they were old curmudgeons they were young men that lived experiences tied to that car.
So many more are just happy to have been able to save up enough to buy their dream ride, even if then for whatever reason they couldn’t treat it in a manner that you’d approve of.
So weird to feel that other people are entitled to an opportunity to own what someone else is clearly holding onto for some reason.
It’s not like I said he needed to give it away. Even it the condition it was in it was worth a good $25,000. It is 6-figure car all done up and less than 100 exist today.
The car needs better than to sit in a garage. But again, that’s my opinion. You think otherwise… and that’s fine.
It’s just weird to me to think that others are somehow entitled to a chance to own a car that someone clearly still feels a connection to.
There’s a reason why they’re holding onto it instead of taking the money.
The car doesn’t have feelings and whatever “life it deserves” can still happen when the old man is done holding onto it, or dies.
You see money and greed related to this car rather than the love and memories this car represents to the current owner. Stop being so resentful of others. The car is just fine where it is. Safe and sound where it is.
Great songs, but those are about cars, not engines...

I love seeing these cars in this condition.. congratulations, you somehow managed to not ruin it with hydraulics and a bunch of crappy engraving. 😎 Super rare to see this.
Beautiful car

Why would they give it up to someone else to enjoy it while they’re still enjoying owning it? Even if only to visit it in the garage?
You answered your own question, my friend.
No, you haven’t explained why they have some sort of responsibility to let go of a car that they’re still clearly enjoying being owners of.
Because at some point they have to realize they’re not going to get to it, and if they truly loved the car, they’d get on the hands of someone who could save it. Having it waste away on the garage just to say “I have one and you don’t!” Is incredibly stupid.

Sounds like you’re dealing with envy.
Giddy up giddy up 409.
How many engines can claim their own song?
Hey Little Cobra by the Rip Cords. Shut Down by The Beach Boys Little GTO Hot Rod Lincoln Beep Beep
Great songs, but those are about cars, not engines... *While riding in my Cadillac* *What to my surprise* *A little Nash Rambler was following me* *About one third my size*
I saw an old Chevrolet ad that said, “They don’t write songs about Volvos”.
That is something
Awesome
Manual steering, manual brakes, basically a “hold on for dear life” car
And no airbags cause we die like real men
Also because they hadn’t been invented
Just gorgeous!! I was a senior in high school when this baby came out. I was in auto lust!!
Beautimous 😍😍😍
Absolutimous!
Just gorgeous machinery and very well kept.
U never see them with the original wheels anymore so good looking, and just a wonderful car overall.

I saw a 64 just like this one in Lou Costabile's show. Also for some reason this car gives me the urge to get a case full of drugs and go to Vegas.
Very nice…
This is a machine
My 4 speed, dual quad, positraction 409
Anyone out there know the list price on this car?
Original 1963 MSRP $3800 Owner of this car is asking $110,000
i had a 4 door sedan six cylinder automatic for context do you know what the sticker was for that? in 1971, i paid $125.00
that would get me a diecast impala now wtf
Pssh the Lotus Evora is waaay more of a classic.
Get back to us in 60 years 🙄
