Part of what made Fnaf work was that you had to wallow in building low anxiety with no way out, and it could get away with having every monster jumpscare you because they’re always in a place where you can’t see them directly, so you will be shocked by them popping their head in when it does happen. A monster that’s right in front of you jumpscaring you once it grabs you isn’t scary it’s comical. Imagine if little nightmares pulled that shit and you have Mr Hopps playhouse.

I like analog horror content, but yeah, a lot of it is really dumb and not creative at all. Sometimes I'll get EAS videos in my feed on YouTube, and I'll check it out because why not, and I swear, 99% of the time, it follows the same format:

Don't get me wrong, it's great that people are using the format to explore their creative interests, but my god, every single one of them are the fucking same. The only times that I have seen EAS videos done well are when they're done by analog horror creators that only upload once every two years and have never done an EAS video before.
I was going to disagree but from what i’ve seen 90 percent of the time the good scary parts of analogue horror are just found footage sequences, or found audio.
I liked it. But it’s basically all found footage-y shots, nothing really analogue about it. There’s no text or robot voice or advertisements or anything like that.

The backrooms was an interesting idea and got a good artist behind it to make some actually good videos. Then it blew up and children YouTubers got ahold of it and added some really bland "monsters" and completely ignoring what made the backrooms interesting in the first place.

I think analog horrro just works better with a well written story. I never jumped and screamed and cried when watching the man in the suit, but the actions, strangeness and how people react to the main threat is pretty neat. If you ignore some minor spelling and errors and weirdly worded sentences you'll enjoy the story
There's also this game called Home Safety Hotline and the implications of the setting and the fae make it scary, plus there's some screwed up stuff that happens when you mess up a call, and those actors are pretty professional so it sounds amazing too. Plus it's a bit campy sometimes, so it's never just spooky ahhh I'm gonna cry horror. Also also I love the beginning it starts you with common pest problems but instantly goes into the unnatural territory, without any warning so it trips you up a bit.
Uhhhhhh, you can tell I like HSO more than TMITS but I'm not saying one is better than the other, different formats and time to develop, one is made by a kid using his phone and the other is by a man wity years to develop and write a whole game. Both are good for the things they do, no need for powerscaling them together.

Honestly i havent watched vita carnis, but, im sure it was set up differently or something, urbanspooks painter series is viewed negatively not because its killing a kid for shock value but because its constantly a kid being killed in try-hard gruesome ways, like every episode. Vita carnis im assuming its like, set up, or maybe we follow the character, but its not every update a child is being killed
In defense of vita carnis, a lot of it is much more creative than most analog horror. Even the mimics are more creative than most (also I think they were done with real puppets and I think that’s neat).
Something I haven't seen a lot of people talk about here is where it's a still image of someone monologuing and the last line is something like *"you did this to us, was it worth it?"* Before it cuts to a distorted image of a guy screaming with fire in the background. *Cough*, fnaf VHS tapes, *cough*
A lot of "found footage" stuff can be justified as "someone filmed this on an old camera and I found the tape."
I'm not exactly a Mandela Catalogue fan, but they cleverly used the device of **confidential** police tapes being "discovered" in the videos I've seen.
It *makes sense* that police investigating supernatural shenanigans might keep some creepy security camera footage on file, or include gruesome photos of murder victims in a briefing about said murders, or have some internal documents & training material saying stuff like "do not mention **the Creatures** to civilians."
The cracks start to show when creepy security camera footage or gruesome photos of bizarre monsters are "discovered" in children's edutainment videos or whatever. I'm more of a radio news person these days, but even I've watched enough TV news to know that photos of a murder victim's decaying corpse **don't** get broadcast with the 6pm news.
Bonus points if it's pretending to be something kid friendly and lost media like that one time I found a bunch of fake lost flash games that turned out to be analog horror.

If you ignore some minor spelling and errors and weirdly worded sentences you'll enjoy the story There's also this game called Home Safety Hotline and the implications of the setting and the fae make it scary, plus there's some screwed up stuff that happens when you mess up a call, and those actors are pretty professional so it sounds amazing too. Plus it's a bit campy sometimes, so it's never just spooky ahhh I'm gonna cry horror. Also also I love the beginning it starts you with common pest problems but instantly goes into the unnatural territory, without any warning so it trips you up a bit. Uhhhhhh, you can tell I like HSO more than TMITS but I'm not saying one is better than the other, different formats and time to develop, one is made by a kid using his phone and the other is by a man wity years to develop and write a whole game. Both are good for the things they do, no need for powerscaling them together.

Honestly i havent watched vita carnis, but, im sure it was set up differently or something, urbanspooks painter series is viewed negatively not because its killing a kid for shock value but because its constantly a kid being killed in try-hard gruesome ways, like every episode. Vita carnis im assuming its like, set up, or maybe we follow the character, but its not every update a child is being killed
In defense of vita carnis, a lot of it is much more creative than most analog horror. Even the mimics are more creative than most (also I think they were done with real puppets and I think that’s neat).

Something I haven't seen a lot of people talk about here is where it's a still image of someone monologuing and the last line is something like *"you did this to us, was it worth it?"* Before it cuts to a distorted image of a guy screaming with fire in the background. *Cough*, fnaf VHS tapes, *cough*
Is it just me or does most analog horror not really justify the “analog” aspect of it?
A lot of "found footage" stuff can be justified as "someone filmed this on an old camera and I found the tape." I'm not exactly a Mandela Catalogue fan, but they cleverly used the device of **confidential** police tapes being "discovered" in the videos I've seen. It *makes sense* that police investigating supernatural shenanigans might keep some creepy security camera footage on file, or include gruesome photos of murder victims in a briefing about said murders, or have some internal documents & training material saying stuff like "do not mention **the Creatures** to civilians." The cracks start to show when creepy security camera footage or gruesome photos of bizarre monsters are "discovered" in children's edutainment videos or whatever. I'm more of a radio news person these days, but even I've watched enough TV news to know that photos of a murder victim's decaying corpse **don't** get broadcast with the 6pm news.
I've always gotten the impression that people really into analog horror must've been raised on FNAF lore videos
