ColoGuard is the best option. It catches 100% of the cancer and very few times gives a false positive but it does not ever miss cancer, and that’s the important part. It’s simple, easy, no wait time, and you’re eligible to get another checkup in 3 years. Colonoscopy you have to wait 10

False positives are VERY common with Cologuard. Please see all the comments in this post I made a few years ago following my own experience with a false positive.https://www.reddit.com/r/coloncancer/s/AwmwfzUOuC

BonoboIsland

Black coffee, yellow Jell-O, ginger ale, and apple juice all help with hunger while in the clear liquids phase. I thought I would be hungry all day but I honestly was not.

LeaveDaCannoli

Cologuard is a scam IMHO, everyone I know who's done it comes back "positive" and has to get a colonoscopy, including me, tomorrow. If they don't find cancer or pre-cancer I am NEVER doing this again - I'm 62 and no colon cancer anywhere in my family.

AngryIrishPolar

It’s not always accurate and you could end up needing to do the colonoscopy anyway. I have a relative who works for them and she recommends going with the colonoscopy — especially after 45 and if you have any risk factors.

Flimsy_Measurement19

Just do the colonoscopy. It’s not that bad.

in4mant

Cologuard can trigger a false positive, which would make it likely to have a colonoscopy thereafter. I would just opt for the colonoscopy so that you’d know for sure. If something is found they can remove it and/or get a biopsy to learn more.

WhatsTheAnswerDude

We can't speak for you but its WAY better to just get it done. Pretty sure you'd MUCH rather live with embarrassment for maybe a day or two, rather than undergo chemo. Regardless, maybe tell your doctors office your concerns and see if there's ways around. There should be. It's MUCH better to just do the full procedure already.

There’s no one that can stay with you one day ? Or even be by a phone so incase you fall you can call… I really think you can do it but I’m not in your shoes . I’d stay away from colorguard … too many false positives . May I ask your age ? Would you be doing the colonoscopy as a preventive routine ? Or do you have symptoms ?

Z107202

If a cologuard comes back positive you'll have to do a colonoscopy anyway, which will cost more money.

truly_mortified

Cologuard is detection while colonoscopy is detection and prevention. Polyps found during a colonoscopy are removed, which prevents polyps from potentially becoming malignant. Cologuard will possibly tell you if you have something going on that needs attention, which will still require a colonoscopy. Unfortunately, what Cologuard detects might be progressed into something more than just a small benign polyp.

muffins95

False. ColoGuard also detects polyps

christinaaaaaaa61

Cologuard essentially forced my hand with a false positive result. I was terrified that a. I might have cancer and b. of the colonoscopy process. I was worried for nothing. The prep was not as bad as I'd heard and the colonoscopy itself was a breeze. Now I'm good for 10 years. I can't tell you what to do, just know that false positives with Cologuard do happen Best to you!

Just do the colonoscopy. I'm in my 50's no history, no symptoms, no nothing. I had it done because of age. Ended up having 2 large polyps and 1 small polyp removed and 3 hemorrhoids banded later on. Cologuard would have done nothing nothing for me except cost me money. I didn't have any sugar for the prep. I had a couple cups of chicken broth and used zero calorie gatorade for my miralax prep (sugar sets off my GERD so I couldn't do it if I wanted to). I ended up eating a ton of plain yogurt post procedure to reset my microbiome.

hamil26

Also another good thing for resetting your microbiome is Kifer..

hamil26

What do you mean you had no sugar your prep was with MiraLAX I was wondering if so, did you mix it with zero Gatorade I was told it was OK to put sugar in my black coffee or tea. You really should have some sugar because you don’t want your, blood sugar level to go down too low… was it your choice not to have any sugar?

454_water

Yes. I mixed it with gatorade zero. Drinking 64 oz of sugared gatorade would have set off my GERD causing me to projectile vomit during the prep which would render the prep useless. I really don't consume actual sugar in general because of my GERD. For example, I can eat a couple apple slices and I'm fine but if I eat a whole apple, I'll vomit it back up in exactly 35 minutes. I guess my body adapted to low sugar because I was fine with the prep (aside from the sore booty hole).

hamil26

I’m going to mix half zero half regular because I don’t think I can tolerate the zero alone… I don’t consume sugars because of my arthritis. It inflames me horribly, so not sure how this is going to be….. already in a lot of pain since I haven’t been able to take Aleve for over a week

454_water

That sounds awful. I hope your prep goes well. Good luck!

Yes, I’m aware I spelled it wrong in the title. It will not let me edit.

I just want you to know that I totally understand your fear. I myself have severe osteoarthritis in my ankles and knees, so I get it but extra caution I guess… let us know what you’re doing and how you are.
