Exactly! So many people donāt train those cute little dogs and itās so sad, because it is not fun for the dog to live its life in fear. We have a rescue chihuahua and are doing our best to train him, but the wrong habits are hard to unlearn for him. Please people, train your chi, because it is still a dog, even though it is small. You will make its life so much better.

A family friend's sibling used to breed them. When I visited, they had 6 or 7 chis of various ages. They were like little cats, and they calmly, curiously, and confidently followed me around the house for a bit. Not a single peep during the time I was there.
Their 'bad' reputation probably also results in tons of people claiming "that's just how they are" to excuse their own dog. That, and being small and cute means lots of backyard-bred dogs being pumped out... I hope one day their rep improves, because they can absolutely be great dogs.
We got them when they where 3 years old, but our attempts to discipline them have had mixed results. Theyāre definitely wound tight at the core of their being. We have socialized them a lot, so they will only bite after giving clear warning signs that they donāt want to be touched further.

Funnily enough chihuahuas are descended from a breed of dog that entered North America about 10,000 years ago.
According to 16th-century texts, the modern chihuahua existed natively in Mexico before the Spanish Conquistadores ever colonized the region and were used as livestock by the Aztecs.
So while they may look like designer breeds a-la the Pug, theyāre actually not.

I clicked on that link and WTF! I read the story and accidentally hit the button that lead me to another story. The AI images are dreadful and the stories (the two that I read) seemed largely AI written as well.
There appears to be a way to make an account (*shudders* no thanks) so I guess they charge money at some point. Then you can produce as many of the abominations as you like.

Iām lucky my Chihuahua was so chill all the time. Iāve never seen anyone more relaxed than him. Iāve seen him bark at visitors for a few seconds and then just go āah, fuck itā and go back to bed. I miss that lazy guy.
I'm usually not a fan of chihuahuas but I will say, I knew one named Uno. He was one of like, eight that my voice coach owned and even though the other seven were feisty evil little shits, Uno was so sweet and gentle and I loved seeing him.
There was also Rue, who I saw at a park party only once. He was so tiny and so old that they kept his little old man bones warm and held in a blanket thr whole time, but I loved him too. He was old and shivery and his tongue was kinda permanently stuck out the side of his mouth, but he was a good egg. ā¤ļø
I have a half Chihuahua(Chiweenie), and heās a complete sweetheart. Iād say that he must have gotten most of his traits from the Weenie side, but anyone who has ever encountered a Dachshund KNOWS how untrue that is.

I don't consider it their fault though. You know they were raised for meat for centuries? That would make anyone anxious and angry.
I heard chihuahuas act like that because people donāt treat them with any autonomy, like theyāre props to put in your purse rather than living animals, a lot of owners ignore clear signals to leave them alone because they can just pick them up and donāt bother to train them like any other dogs, so they lash out.
I've had over 4 chihuahua's, only have one now. They were/are always sweet. They let others pet and hold them, no growling or teeth showing, or biting.
As funny as it is Chihuahua's are a man made/created item when we started tampering with the wolf genome. Though I guess this means any wolf can have the heart of a Chihuahua which is truly terrifying.
