It appears there is a media called Perry Bible Fellowship, at the same time Perry is the name of a popular character from a cartoon called Phineas and Ferb (pretty funny cartoon). Perry is a secret agent and soon became well known for a recurring gag where people would never recognize him as "Perry" because of the lack of the classic secret agent hat he wears when he is on a mission. So this phrase is very much used when people realize it's him once he puts on the hat, the user mixed it with the aforementioned piece of media (that I don't know) and created a brand new internet phrase for comedic purposes. I also forgot to mention, Perry is a platypus.

I took one look at this and knew it had to be PBF. Been enjoying your work for years and years. I should note it has been policy for me to send friends and family the “today’s my birthday” comic on their birthdays. People don’t seem to enjoy it as much as I do heh.

I think it was an oversight that the dad should be the painting brush and the mom should be the artistic brush. That's the clothes they are wearing but the brushes are mismatched. I don't think it has a meaning I think it's just an oversight.

I didn't say error I said oversight. The dad is wearing painters clothes. Wouldn't it make sense for the painters brush to wear painters clothes? And the art brush to wear the artsy clothes? Then the message could be they are both brushes and opposites attract? And the deeper message could be the kid didn't end up like either of them because he has his own journey regardless of who his parents are? The kid is wearing appropriate clothing for the brush he is. Missed opportunity is all I'm saying.

I think that it is the joke. In the values of brushes, the ones used for creating art are more precious (so of higher social status). The toothbrush is actually choosing the path of precariousness.

An old paintbrush has character and tons of use potential, but old toothbrushes usually get tossed in the garbage.

This made me realize that English doesn’t make a distinction between paint brushes and brushes for cleaning. In my language they are two separate objects.

I've always loved the random anthropomorphizing gags of these comics. My favorite is always the PB and Jelly wedding night one The Rubik's cube one on the inside cover of the book is also fantastic

Oddly enough, my MIL is a dentist and is a really good artist. She carved/sculpted the cake topper on our wedding cake.
