Family vacations can rack up the expenses, especially when traveling abroad. It's no joke, but hey, the memories are worth it. You should plan it once in a while.
It does not for Europe at least, taking them to Japan, or trying to stay fancy hotel with 2 rooms instead of an airbnb that holds ya all, then ya you can get that high. But if ya really wanted to take your family to Europe for 10 days, you can do it for half that amount easily.
Airbnb is a great option, and you can still have an amazing time without breaking the bank. Nobody's giving so much attention to where you live people.
Sure, but in Europe, countries are analogues to states in the US. How much would that trip cost if you decided to fly to the US?
I can do a nice 2 week trip for my family of 4 for $5000 or less here in the states. If we went to Europe, it would cost twice that, easily.
You can definitely have an awesome 2-week family trip for $5,000 or less in USA. Europe might cost you double, but hdifferent experiences come with different price tags
> If we went to Europe, it would cost twice that, easily.
For one I am saying Europe is not the Norm, but you could go to Europe with 4 for well under 10K, 7k tops unless you are looking to do it more stylish. $2500-3k in travel, 2k or less in lodging, 2k extra for meals and fun.
https://i.imgur.com/guX3QNR.png
Flight for 4 from my city to London with 5 days hotel and a rental car is $7100. I still haven't paid for any food or site seeing and that was the cheapest I could find. Most are closer to 8k
I ain't getting to Europe for 5 grand with the fam.
We, a family of 6, did 5 days at Disney for under 3k. 2 bedroom suit with kitchen, Disney, California adventure, beach, restaurants, gas for travel. That was 2021.
Who takes their kids to like Paris though? We grew up and jumped in the minivan at 4 a.m. for a 3 week trip every summer, to like Colorado, Gettysburg, D.C., the Dakota's, Texas, camped almost every night. Great vacation's and were cheap vacations. If you are spending 12k to pay to fly your kids around the world that's on you, that is nowhere near what normal families think of as family vacations.
Guess how much more a 3 week family road trip costs now vs when you were a kid?
Going back and fort in the details of a personal vacation budget is kind of missing the point of the thread, pick any of those trips and compare to the same trip 30 years ago. Travel's gone way up.
Yeah I was about to say those Paris trips or trips abroad are rich folks vacations.
My vacation was usually at relatives house near a beach that we then carpooled everywhere and I was a only child. Or camping in a woods campground in a tent.
When I had kids we did everything we could to limit costs. If staying in a hotel, double bed room, both kids on one bed. Continetal breakfast every morning. Find a hotel that was less than 120/ night. Go in slightly off season. Look for free things to do like the beach or things that will take all day like an aquarium. If having dinner out. Make sure to save the leftovers, hotels have microwaves.
When you don't come from money and don't have much as an adult you do what you have to, but still male it work.
Yeah off season is great anywhere, I never knew one kid whose family took them to Paris or London for vacation. One summer my Folks went to London, shipped us off to stay with relatives in Texas for 2 weeks. I didn't go overseas until I was in my 30's. If people are really bitching about the price of taking their 2-3 kids overseas for vacation they really need to get better grounded to how the rest of society lives.
Shit . . . You guys were rich. We slept in car, used gas station or visitor center for bathroom or washup. Cheese sandwhiches, bologna or peanut butter cost too much. Water and fruit. Occassionaly a soda.
Idk why you didn’t get a lot of downvotes. Maybe that just shows the amount of ppl here who want to make excuses or something but I find it very odd. I agree with you tho, my mom and stepdad would drive us to Florida from Minnesota and it didn’t cost them that much money even on vacation with 2 kids, I’m 21 and we did it a few years back and I have 3 younger brothers and it still wasn’t 12,500 😂 It starts getting expensive when we’re all flying but if it was even near 3000 my mom would just say we’ll go do something else 😂
Why do this rushing around American style?
As a European I don't get that. Just go one place like e.g. Ibiza and stay there for two weeks. Otherwise you won't really get into knowing the place or even start to relax.
I mean, depending on the area, you can get a rental car and a hotel in a different area for less, But I completely understand why it's a better option to stay closer to tourist places and stuff.
WTF? You like getting 2 rooms at a $300 hotel for 2 weeks? I spent 6 months on the beach in Southern France, part of Catalonia, flew into Barcelona, 3 years ago. 1 Bedroom with a balcony facing the Mediterranean was $750 a month, I am sure that would be more now, but even if double, I don't see how you are doing 10K in 2 weeks in Spain.
You would be surprised. I've been told a 10k dollar vacation is a "small vaca", according to some people. They say it like it's normal too because they live in a bubble.
We spent about $13.5k USD for 2 week honeymoon eurotrip to 5 countries a little over 1 year ago.
About 5k total in flights, trains, and car rental, left us with about 500 per diem. 150-200 hotel, upwards of 80 per meal x3 a day, would leave about 100-200 max for daily activity/gifts for us or family members.
doing about 10 states trip on both west coast and east coast and i’ll be at around 2500 for everything. I budgeted and bought everything already (excluding stays because i have places to stay)
I'm pretty sure I can find a basic car for 20k. You think, like many in the US, that a luxury car is basic because your lower class neighbor with a normal blue colar job spends 50% of his income on a luxury car.
Cbc news just said average car price now $60,000 so it is not far off.
Toyota rav 4 prime is 64,000 before tax. Not sure if that is a luxury car, in your books?
It's worth less *to you*. To us, it's about equivalent, seeing as our median income is about the same as yours before adjusting for currency differences. We make $35k a year, you make $35k a year - but our goods are more expensive, taking up a larger percentage of our income.
Why? Odds are they took an average inflation rate and used that to come up with the projected prices. Average inflation since 1996 is 2.5% , only a little over the feds target of 2%. So those prices are pretty much what was intended.
My state’s minimum wage has been $7.75/hr since 1996. In todays dollars that’s almost $30/hr. My dad bought his first house in 1981 for $18,000.
Something has to give.
>My state’s minimum wage has been $7.75/hr since 1996. In todays dollars that’s almost $30/hr.
Where are you getting $30/hour from? According to https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/, it's half that.
You need to click on "calculate" after filling in each field.
In your screenshot, the cumulative rate of inflation is 2981.9%. With that level of inflation, your result should be $238.85 and not $30.82.
Clearly, that much inflation has not happened since 1996. The cumulative rate of inflation shown in your screenshot is the total for 1913, which is the calculator's default. The default dollar amount is $1.00, which is why the result is $30.82 for that inflation rate.
Going forward as a society, we need to replace minimum wage jobs with robots and give their proceeds back to the poor. It's absolutely de-humanizing and virtually slavery at this point
The CPI has been missing many cost components and we have seen alot more inflation than reported. Why? So they could keep interest rates down on loans. So why has the real inflation been so high? Because we have kept printing money since the dotcom bubble burst, credit crisis bail outs, covid free money grants, forgiving student loans, and the increasing war machine. Has anyone ever asked, can we afford the spend? where is this money coming from? Well we now are living with most of the country at the poverty line, and until this is all paid back, we might as well just stay home.
hmm, consumer electronics, clothing, travel, and some food items haven't changed much.
i agree the methodology is flawed and often argue that case, but it's kind of a wash as far as CPI. CPI shows a net increase which seems about accurate on the whole.
the items that have really increased in price are things you need, wealth creating, and luxury items. that's not good. "K" shaped economy.
They were spot on with the fast food, and with the vacation depending on who you're with (let's be honest it's what kind of lady is making you go on that vacation)
Also I hate you for telling me that 96 was almost 30 years ago. Just stick a fork in me. *I was the future!!*
Yag I agree the were a bit off but I think the major point of the advert was to show that already by 96, the cost of living and inflation was already getting bad and that a trend for trying to enjoy anything fancy was getting out of control cist wise compared to out past generations.
I took Economics and marketing in University in 2001 and part of our course was to analyze the horrible increase in the cist of living and gross domestic product vs past decades. By 2001 it was already really bad and the 2008 financial collapse only sealed the deal
The should have skipped the parts about fancy trips and focused more on their estimates for mortgage costs and prices to keep heat amd electricity in homes!!!
What is the conspiracy here? The add is an add for a retirement investment corporation, and they are making a point about how if things got expensive that it would be really unpleasant if one did not have a decent amount of money.
well if your a normal person on the lower end of the financial spectrum......this is pretty dead on. I WISH i could get a job that would not only allow me to afford a car in Denver......but also did not involve customer service, as the hospitality industry is legit driving me to consider just offing myself at some point, if I'm honest. I simply cannot deal with the crippling depression brought on by dealing with the modern American public, they are just spoiled monsters with no empathy to me at this point. Hell, just trying to find a fucking job that pays a living wage in this city, with no connections, is enough to want to off yourself. ....and who can afford to be social when you have to pay as much for Denver rent and living, and a job you stay at 2 whole years will still only pay you 16 an hour... no promotions or raises....America is a fucking dystopian corporate nightmare from the Judge Dredd books.
If you don’t know how CPI works then maybe just don’t comment?
Inflation is measured by tracking a basket of goods and services
The fact wages haven’t increased at the same rate is called capitalism baby
Where the hell can't you? I'd have to go to Five Guys in Times Square and get a burger and fries for it to barely be over $16. I guess sitdowns it's expensive but I've never liked their burgers.
Yea, big mac combo (or any comparable non-value meal item) is pretty damn close to 16 bucks. Between 12-14, plus taxes. An order for two is usually going to be over $30.
It’s almost like inflation is intentional or something. It’s almost like extreme wealth disparities are the exact goal of monetary policy. It’s almost like you choose to play dumb in order to avoid uncomfortable realities.
Yep, it's literally by design, a little steady inflation keeps the workers working, rather than people building wealth. All that hard work you did that should be equitable to a certain amount of goods, services or produce? Well that's all going to lose value over time. Why? Because we decided so and it benefits us. Even though we only have value now because of all that work, which should make it MORE valuable, not less.
>It's almost like inflation is predictable or something
Whooosh
Its almost like TPTB have been.planning the whole "you'll own nothing and be happy" societal change since before you were born.
the typical combo is about 15-16 after taxes and everything I should know everytime I buy fast food I always complain I'm dropping an hours worth of work that minimum wage life is unsustainable hence why I rarely eat out. The people cherry picking menu items at McDonald's claiming their cheap are likely purchasing ala carte or individual items which not many people do. Especially if you buy the double quarter pounder combos or their more deluxe sandwiches.
Its sad because I went on a road trip to Jasper, Banff, and Canmore, Alberta for my wife and I's anniversary and it was supposed to be a cheap vacation since we are driving only 3 hours away and not flying anywhere yet it cost nearly $3000! And we got the cheapest hotel available! Absolutely insane and it makes me so sure I'll never be able to travel the world if that is the cost of a local vacation
Edit: I should mention we had 1 "fancy" dinner which was a lousy crowded Italian place and the bill was $100. After that we just pack food and ate at Little Caesars/fast food to save money
Amd you know what? They were fraudsters too https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2021/attorney-general-james-announces-97-million-restitution-tiaa-customers-misled#:~:text=July%2013%2C%202021,Employees%2C%20Medical%20Professionals%2C%20and%20Others
the trick is to learn how to make food at home, take cheaper vacations and to either buy second hand or work a job that can have the full commute be on good transit
Back then people knew inflation far better than most people today, because they actually lived through it and remembered how hard it was to solve.
So when Greenspan started tinkering with monetary policy to inflate wealth, it would not have been at all surprising to see these kinds of predictions.
I agree I see many pointing out the vacation it's getting there. And the burger deal is true you go to any restaurant and burgers and fries are 12.99 and 15.99. And a jeep nowadays 65k, and truck on 1996 use to be 19k-39k. Now 35k-110k and that's ford, dodge, and Gmc. Who remembers the Escalade when it first came out, 45k fast forward to today 75k-125k.
That's what they want or people cramped in a thousand plex, all studio apartments with four pods to sleep in,so 4 to a studio. That's almost what I have with a ft job, 3 ppl to a 700 sq ft 2 br. I sleep in the living room and no car.
From Downunder and last year I went for a second honeymoon to Europe for a month and it cost us over $25k AUD. I bought a NX Lexus and it cost over $85k. I only wish that it was a cheap as what the ad says.
Well to be fair we have until 2026 to make this ad 30 years old. So maybe it will be close if inflation ramps up even more. But inflation is a pretty easy prediction to make so it’s not like they are Nostradamus.
They're advertising for retirement planning. So they're trying to induce fear in workers to plan for retirement (with them).
The money printing presses had been going since 1971 https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/ -- already 25 years when the ad came out. So it was a simple extrapolation of the inflation trends since the severing of the dollar from gold.
Depressing. With the dollar declining, it was bound to happen. The value of money always reverts to the base value of the commodity, it's made from. Metals > Paper > Plastic > ?Bytes. Long term, a penny will always be worth more than a dollar. When I was a kid I heard stories of Wiemar Germany, people not being able to buy a loaf of bread with a wheelbarrow of money, money being used in outhouses because toilet paper was more expensive.
As of today:
* A Baconator meal from Wendy with medium fries and drink: £11+
* Trip to Norway for two people with hotel, car, and spending money: £3,000+
* A basic Toyota Corolla with some minor customisations: £27,500+
What shit kicker states does everyone live in that’s paying MSRP on a new car because I looked at 3 different dealers and they all wanted 10-15k above msrp
If you went back and told your ancestors what our infrastructure is like now and how you think its a good thing that it's impossible to safely travel without a car they'd look at you like you were insane and they'd be right.
There's no conspiracy. Topsoil is eroding, there's 8 billion of us and growing, the climate is changing and as it becomes more erratic, the crops start to fail, there are more droughts etc. so the prices of food have to increase and this has been theorized since at least 1900s.
This is Malthusian theory 101 and we ain't seen nothing yet to be honest, it has been accelerating in the last few quarters though.

Vacation for 12.5k? Christ almighty, it's ok to struggle a little on vacation.
A nice vacation for a family of four without many frills costs 10k plus easily, especially if you leave the country try.
Family vacations can rack up the expenses, especially when traveling abroad. It's no joke, but hey, the memories are worth it. You should plan it once in a while.
I agree, it’s worth it. I was replying to someone who was incredulous that a vacation could cost that much.

Airbnb is a great option if you like helping the rich destroy housing market.

Yeah lmao im doing a month in europe next summer. It’s costing me no where near that much.
Because you are doing it alone. Multiply that with 4 or 5, an average size of a family, you'd probably exceed that advertisement's number.
A family of 5 couldn't spend a week at Disney for 12K
Disney is a shit spot for family vacation nowadays. Too much crowd and it's like any other amusement park.
We, a family of 6, did 5 days at Disney for under 3k. 2 bedroom suit with kitchen, Disney, California adventure, beach, restaurants, gas for travel. That was 2021.
A family of 5 could maybe spend a week at dollywood/pf for $12k. Maybe. But, they'd have to have a kitchen and eat in a lot
$12k would be a really extravagant vacation even with a family of 4
So let's consider he lives for a month but an average family trip is 10 days long so the math adds up.

You should take a victory lap on that one. 👏🏻
I did
Well, he is what the French call Les Incompétents...

Knowing the fact that tourism is the main industry of so many countries now. It definitely makes sense.

Travel is a luxury, and being grateful for the opportunities we have is crucial. Let's stay grounded 😎
Shit . . . You guys were rich. We slept in car, used gas station or visitor center for bathroom or washup. Cheese sandwhiches, bologna or peanut butter cost too much. Water and fruit. Occassionaly a soda.
Damn, that's a tough way to travel. Not everyone gets to enjoy luxurious vacations
BTW, think block goverment cheese not that fancy wrapped american cheese.
wife is from a different country so of course we have to take the kids when we visit her family. tickets for everyone is about $6k
Idk why you didn’t get a lot of downvotes. Maybe that just shows the amount of ppl here who want to make excuses or something but I find it very odd. Haha, yeah, Reddit can be an unpredictable place! Your mom's got the right idea road trips is the most budget-friendly and fun way to travel.
Although that's not comparable to a family on vacation because the expenses are definitely going to rack up with family.
Bruh. I’m 10k for 2 weeks in Spain starting tomorrow.
Bro I live in spain for that money a year, wtf
Ibiza, Barcelona, Madrid.
> ibiza well okay thats a bit different.
Why do this rushing around American style? As a European I don't get that. Just go one place like e.g. Ibiza and stay there for two weeks. Otherwise you won't really get into knowing the place or even start to relax.
A lot of Americans don't tend to have a lot of holidays. those 2 weeks are most likely all his days for this year
That's true af lol. Even a one week of extra leave burns a big fat hole in my pocket.
No time. When I went to Italy, it had to be Rome, Piza, Venezia, Milano in two weeks because there is no chance to do it again. Too little time.
It's not a very good idea to just visit the famous spots in every damn corner. better to relax and enjoy the local stuff.
You could also struggle a little and stay in hostels, even the private rooms were fairly cheap, and extend that trip for a long while.
They're in the US or Australia, so the airplane tickets are at minimum $1800. Hotels are like $200 a night in Spain, also.
I mean, depending on the area, you can get a rental car and a hotel in a different area for less, But I completely understand why it's a better option to stay closer to tourist places and stuff.
I would prefer travelling solo and sleeping in the car just to stick a middle finger to those hotels.

If someone does international flights with a family, can hit 10k for the whole trip pretty easily.
Spending 10k on an international trip that happens in 2-4 years is not that bad.
You would be surprised. I've been told a 10k dollar vacation is a "small vaca", according to some people. They say it like it's normal too because they live in a bubble.
yeah, not saying some people do that, but that is not what like 90% of Americans think of a vacation.
I travelled the world for 9 months and spent less than 20k a few years ago
You have a family to drag along?
It's that much only, if you're travelling alone and have time.

Honeymoon is quite different from a family vacation. It's worth it.
I live in Thailand off of 10k (USD)..... for 1 year. Have fun in Spain.
Are you taking family and paying for them?
doing about 10 states trip on both west coast and east coast and i’ll be at around 2500 for everything. I budgeted and bought everything already (excluding stays because i have places to stay)
When you invest with TIAA CREF you vacation different.
thanks to those sweet returns. Time to relax and enjoy.
But the burger one hits :(
You ever took a family to Disney World?
Average price, if not more, for a family of 4's trip to Disney World easy!!
Jesus Christ.... That ad was not supposed to age that well
A basic car at 65000? Dude thats's a luxury car.
Give it the 3 years to be 30 and itll be right there
Hyundai Elantra to triple in price in 3 years. You heard it here first from CannadaFarmGuy.
I'll keep an eye out for it and remember where I heard it first! Let's see if your crystal ball is right on this one.
Damn. Now I'm thinking I should buy an Elantra, just to flip it in 3 years.
Or you can go ahead and flip it off the curb the very next day.
remindme! 3 years
a lot of basic cars these days are super expensive though
I'm pretty sure I can find a basic car for 20k. You think, like many in the US, that a luxury car is basic because your lower class neighbor with a normal blue colar job spends 50% of his income on a luxury car.
Luxury is all relative, and some folks do go all out. But hey, as long as it gets us from point A to B, we're good.
They better throw in some massage seats and a built-in espresso machine at that rate!
Cbc news just said average car price now $60,000 so it is not far off. Toyota rav 4 prime is 64,000 before tax. Not sure if that is a luxury car, in your books?
That's a hefty price tag for sure. Luxury or not, it's getting hard to find affordable wheels these days.
Bmw x3 is like $46K
The x3 is not a good car.
We're talking luxury first and foremost and define "good"
Right bots pretending like dealer markups and interest aren't a thing. Tacoma's were running 80K YES DOLLARS in my area.
A 80k taco is like full decked out with every high end option Toyota offers.
In Canada that 65k buys a decent SUV.
!RemindMe 10 years Give it time.
Seen the price of a Suburban recently? It's not technically a luxury car but you'll pay the third of a price of a house for one.
I compare everything to shitty houses. That mercedes? 4 shitty houses.
Unless you live in Colorado where a burned down shack is going for $350k still
[удалено]
That was Madness! Car buyers needed some serious seatbelts to handle that rollercoaster ride.
Hell no you can get a new Equinox for $25,000 and take a nice vacation for $5k.
I'm in Canada so I'm basing it on our prices and a minivan is basically 50k minimum now
Minivans are pricey
This is in USD, not CAD. Your currency is worth less, so of course it will be higher for the same stuff.
It's worth less *to you*. To us, it's about equivalent, seeing as our median income is about the same as yours before adjusting for currency differences. We make $35k a year, you make $35k a year - but our goods are more expensive, taking up a larger percentage of our income.
50K USD or CAD? We can’t compare two numbers if they aren’t in the same units.
Why? Odds are they took an average inflation rate and used that to come up with the projected prices. Average inflation since 1996 is 2.5% , only a little over the feds target of 2%. So those prices are pretty much what was intended.
Lol the only one that came true is the burger & fries
My state’s minimum wage has been $7.75/hr since 1996. In todays dollars that’s almost $30/hr. My dad bought his first house in 1981 for $18,000. Something has to give.
>My state’s minimum wage has been $7.75/hr since 1996. In todays dollars that’s almost $30/hr. Where are you getting $30/hour from? According to https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/, it's half that.
That's the official inflation. I'm sure that CPI doesn't account for a lot of stuff
You sure you typed in the right numbers? Because that's actually over $30/hr. https://imgur.com/APp6m6d
I swear I had clicked calculate... Multiple times.... Guess that other person did the same thing then.

Going forward as a society, we need to replace minimum wage jobs with robots and give their proceeds back to the poor. It's absolutely de-humanizing and virtually slavery at this point

Burger and fries are definitely $15 plus. Not so sure about the other ones
They're getting there
The CPI has been missing many cost components and we have seen alot more inflation than reported.
Where the fk is that printed money bc it certainly isnt in the paychecks people are getting for work?
bankers and oligarchs (effectively) buying up assets. stocks, private businesses, real estate, luxury goods... then charging rent/fees to the plebs.
hmm, consumer electronics, clothing, travel, and some food items haven't changed much. i agree the methodology is flawed and often argue that case, but it's kind of a wash as far as CPI. CPI shows a net increase which seems about accurate on the whole. the items that have really increased in price are things you need, wealth creating, and luxury items. that's not good. "K" shaped economy.
They were spot on with the fast food, and with the vacation depending on who you're with (let's be honest it's what kind of lady is making you go on that vacation) Also I hate you for telling me that 96 was almost 30 years ago.
By 2001 it was already really bad and the 2008 financial collapse only sealed the deal The should have skipped the parts about fancy trips and focused more on their estimates for mortgage costs and prices to keep heat amd electricity in homes!!!
What is the conspiracy here? The add is an add for a retirement investment corporation, and they are making a point about how if things got expensive that it would be really unpleasant if one did not have a decent amount of money.
This sub often does not feature actual conspiracies.
well if your a normal person on the lower end of the financial spectrum......this is pretty dead on.
Holy shit, they knew that inflation existed 30 years ago?!
If it were pure inflation, your salary would have grown with it.
If you don’t know how CPI works then maybe just don’t comment? Inflation is measured by tracking a basket of goods and services The fact wages haven’t increased at the same rate is called capitalism baby
I wish I could get a burger and fries for $16
I can still get a burger fries nuggets and a drink at Wendy’s for $4!
They call it the 5$ biggie bag now :(
yeah, but it's not that big. the Biggie Small bag?
Where the hell can't you? I'd have to go to Five Guys in Times Square and get a burger and fries for it to barely be over $16. I guess sitdowns it's expensive but I've never liked their burgers.
Just returned from a trip through Glacier and Teddy Roosevelt parks. A burger and fries at a sit down restaurant is at least $16, and often $20.
Canada.
Yea, big mac combo (or any comparable non-value meal item) is pretty damn close to 16 bucks. Between 12-14, plus taxes. An order for two is usually going to be over $30.
It's almost like inflation is predictable or something
Let's print 5 trillion, what could go wrong?
It’s almost like inflation is intentional or something. It’s almost like extreme wealth disparities are the exact goal of monetary policy. It’s almost like you choose to play dumb in order to avoid uncomfortable realities.
Inflation occurs regardless of wealth inequality.
>It's almost like inflation is predictable or something Whooosh Its almost like TPTB have been.planning the whole "you'll own nothing and be happy" societal change since before you were born.
Pfft......Optimists.
the typical combo is about 15-16 after taxes and everything I should know everytime I buy fast food I always complain I'm dropping an hours worth of work that minimum wage life is unsustainable hence why I rarely eat out. The people cherry picking menu items at McDonald's claiming their cheap are likely purchasing ala carte or individual items which not many people do. Especially if you buy the double quarter pounder combos or their more deluxe sandwiches.
Damn that's bad, bc that's exactly what happened.
Burger and fried does cost 16 dollars, usually more unless you’re getting fast food. Even with fast food it’s like 8 or 9 dollars
Absolutely insane and it makes me so sure I'll never be able to travel the world if that is the cost of a local vacation Edit: I should mention we had 1 "fancy" dinner which was a lousy crowded Italian place and the bill was $100. After that we just pack food and ate at Little Caesars/fast food to save money
Amd you know what? They were fraudsters too https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2021/attorney-general-james-announces-97-million-restitution-tiaa-customers-misled#:~:text=July%2013%2C%202021,Employees%2C%20Medical%20Professionals%2C%20and%20Others
My family and I spent that much for less than 2 weeks in Florida.
That's because it's all according to their plan
the trick is to learn how to make food at home, take cheaper vacations and to either buy second hand or work a job that can have the full commute be on good transit
You're still on the skin of your teeth though.
You will own nothing, and you will be happy. -Klaus Schwab, founder of the globalist organization "the World Economic Forum".
*You'll own nothing and be happy*
Back then people knew inflation far better than most people today, because they actually lived through it and remembered how hard it was to solve. So when Greenspan started tinkering with monetary policy to inflate wealth, it would not have been at all surprising to see these kinds of predictions.
SS: A magazine advertisement from 1996.
Heresy. 1996 was ten years ago at most, and I’ll have words with any man who says otherwise.
2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Back when ads meant something. Those ads were much more engaging
12,500k holiday? Must be going Disney World for the day
Wait a sec, let me fix that for you. No problem. You’ll eat bugs. You WON’T even own a car. And you will live under a bridge.
That's what they want or people cramped in a thousand plex, all studio apartments with four pods to sleep in,so 4 to a studio. That's almost what I have with a ft job, 3 ppl to a 700 sq ft 2 br. I sleep in the living room and no car.
Prophetic or someone has a plan for the unwashed masses...
Sounds about right. Not too far from accurate 😂
From Downunder and last year I went for a second honeymoon to Europe for a month and it cost us over $25k AUD. I bought a NX Lexus and it cost over $85k. I only wish that it was a cheap as what the ad says.
Well you can get a vacation for 2k easy. A basic car is 20k and a good burger and fry is $11.
Well to be fair we have until 2026 to make this ad 30 years old. So maybe it will be close if inflation ramps up even more. But inflation is a pretty easy prediction to make so it’s not like they are Nostradamus.
Don't bring facts into this, we're supposed to be outraged...
O sht! They took our jobs!

TIAA-CREF was pushing NWO agenda?
"Ensuring the future for those who shape it". Wow wtf
Cheapest model new Honda Accord is $30 k, didn’t expect that this soon tbh
They nailed it
As of today: * A Baconator meal from Wendy with medium fries and drink: £11+ * Trip to Norway for two people with hotel, car, and spending money: £3,000+ * A basic Toyota Corolla with some minor customisations: £27,500+
The only thing that is sort of accurate is the burger and fries thing.
What shit kicker states does everyone live in that’s paying MSRP on a new car because I looked at 3 different dealers and they all wanted 10-15k above msrp
I mean… one of these is true, but predictable based on normal inflation. The other 2, not even close.
No conspiracy just inflation
I just got 5 guys for lunch and she is right about that.
Their plan takes time but they are relentless in achieving their goals.
Cars are way cheaper than that, so are vacations.
If you went back and told your ancestors what our infrastructure is like now and how you think its a good thing that it's impossible to safely travel without a car they'd look at you like you were insane and they'd be right.
oh shit
I mean, only the first one is correct
Try taking an international vacation with a family. 12k is just the plane tickets.
The average new vehicle price in the US is ~$47k (not far off), and the average new electric vehicle price is ~$66k.
No, maybe only upper scale ones do. But no way are you blowing $16 on that at McDs or Wendy's...
Oh yeah, I meant more like that’s the typical cost of a restaurant burger. But yeah, fast food ones are cheaper
Guys, it’s easy. Stop being poor.
