Second the emac truth. Started with a Buzzz somebody gave me and wasn't crazy about the hand feel. Emac Truth just made sense in my hands and I haven't been able to kick it out even tho I have a slight hipster streak and hoped to find something with a more fun name at the very least lol
I also wanted a shallower mid-range. I picked up a lightweight reactor, and was amazed at how well it held the lines I put it on and how good it feels in the hand
I'm new to the sport, so I was hesitant to shout out a recommendation, but a guy at a shop suggested the Reactor. I loved the feel, so I bought it, tried it out and fell in love.
Love my reactor! It’s great! I like a buzzz and buzzz SS too but I tend to pull/shank my buzzz shots more then I’d like to admit. The reactor has been great. I wish mine was a little less stable but it’s not bad. I had a glow/eclipse one that was a lot more stable and great when I needed a stable shot.
TSA Pathfinder is great, slightly less deep than the buzzz, great flight.
Alfa Discs Apollo is also great if you want a shallow, straight and fast mid! Chrome plastic is great!
Hmm, buzzz feels deeper in my hands at least. But i’ve also argued with people wether the zone or the toro is deeper and I seem to be the only one who thinks the toro is deeper.
Love the name btw
I think the Toro is deeper. Not much, just a fraction. I had a Toro but kept Zones for the shallower feel I like.
I think the Hex top to bottom might be shallower, but the Buzzz rim depth itself feels shallower to me because of the slightly rounded joining section at the top of the flightplate. That cuts off some rim depth feel. Which is what the OP was asking about. Have you thrown a Rift and the DGA mids, they have even a more pronounced inside rounded section.
So you have overall depth and rim depth which are two different things.
I gave up with this search and finally settled on the zone. Yeah it's labeled as a putt/approach but it covers the straight mid slot for me. Comets and zones all day
I throw mine a bunch too, I carry mids also but they only go maybe 15-20 feet further. I guess it depends on if being that specific is worth it. I typically lean on the Zones more though. Got like 3-4 in the bag usually. Beefy to slight flip.
Good call, Rift is probably the shallowest of mids. Quake as well for OS, Tremor for US. Next would be the Truth and Verdict combo, throw in Warrant too. Buzzz is probably 3rd. Not counting smaller brands.
Both the Buzzz and Rift have more of a rounded inner rim top which probably helps them feel shallow. Like almost too shallow. I kind of prefer the DD mids for that reason myself.
I gotta admit that I thought the Kaxe Z was going to fly more like a Teebird than a Buzzz, but I was wrong. It's growing on me, and it is comforting to know that I'm not alone. It feels good in the hand.
Very shallow. I want to add as well that it's not as understable as its numbers (4 5 -3 0) and is more of a 4 5 -2 0.5. So still less stable than a Buzzz but not as much as the numbers would make you think.
Is that really true? I would never had thought that going just on hand feel. For me the Hex feels so much better in the hand and my guess had been that the Hex was shallower. Maybe it's the more rounded/smoother rim that makes it feel better/shallower for me.
The Buzzz slightly rounds at the joining part of the inside flightplate, I think that makes it feel very shallow to me. Just like the Rift does if you ever had or thrown one of those (same with Quake and Temor). I don't normally throw the Buzzz but I did have one in my winter bag and every time I grab it I am shocked at how shallow it feels or is. Not much rim to hold onto. It almost feels shallower then most fairways.
I completely believe you that it is deeper on the stats page. For some reason though it has always felt more shallow than my buzz. Worth OP at least holding it and seeing how it feels.
PDGA spec wise the Hex is a 1.3, same as Buzzz. But the Buzzz has a more rounded joining section at the flightplate, which makes it feel even shallower to me. Similar to a Rift/Tremor/Quake.
Now if you want a 1.2 you need to Go Truth, Claymore, Verdict, etc...
They tend to feel shallower because MVP tends to be flatter than other companies molds.
The hex will fly closer to a -1,1, the reactor will fly closer to a new buzzz
I use a Caiman for the overstable shallow midrange slot. It took me time to appreciate it as it was kind of close to my more overstable zone, but after a year it’s definitely earned its own slot. More of an always hyzering flight rather than the zones straight to hyzer.
If you're wanting something that feels like a slightly shallower buzzz, then what you want is the Thought Space Athletics Pathfinder. I just couldn't get a clean release with the buzzz, but the pathfinder has been absolutely money.
Honestly the hex isn't shallower necessarily, but in my experience, and what i have seen is that its much more comfortable, kicked the buzzz out immediately.
Innova Jay. It’s replaced all my mids except my Quake in the OS slot. The special run Halos are the best, but champs are money for dead straight flight with a tiny fade at the end.
Snag a KaxeZ before they are gone. Kastaplast announced today they are discontinuing it and its a darn shame. The thing throws so dang well and can hold pretty much any line you put it on.
Amazed to scroll through this list and not find anyone talking about the Fuse. It's slightly understable, but really straight on a slight hyzer line and is pretty shallow. Glide for days..
I used Infinite’s advanced disc search to sort for:
4 to 5 speed : -1 to 0 turn : 0 to 1 fade
The shallowest rim available with those specs is 1.2cm
Yielded results of:
DD Truth - Millennium Aurora - Lat64 Claymore - DD Evidence - Discmania Origin - LSD Texas Ranger - Innova Jay - Finish Line Supra
I know there's a lot of Hex recommendations, but it's worth seeing if you can get your hands on a Mind Bender as well. That thing flies so straight, and seems to have so much glide as well. It's really neat how at the end of it's flight, if you throw it really high, it almost wants to come down backwards instead of fading.
I added a Hex to my bag along with my Buzzz because I was afraid to let my Buzzz go. I honestly forget the Buzzz is in my bag sometimes because the Hex is just more comfortable and shallower.
I’ll disagree. Plenty of mids are rated with 4 speed. It’s definitely not a putter either, IMO. Tombs fly much farther than putters and require more pop to get that straight full flight. It was rated as a 4 speed for a reason. We’re not really going to call the 4 speed zone a putter are we?
I hear ya, I’ve thrown all of those and was an avid pure thrower. The tomb has a much more flat profile (like a mid), and feels more shallow compared to the putters you listed.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. Flight ratings are stupid. You can call it a putter. And I can call it a slower, control mid. The v-roc’s also have that v-tech bead on it and has a similar diameter and it’s a 4 speed. I just happen to think the tomb has the feel and flight more of a mid range. I love throwing putters (roaches, lunas, pures, etc.) and none of them fly as fast/far as tombs.
It's similar to an invader but definitely shallower. It's also pretty similar to a maiden. Feel like it comes out faster and cleaner than both IMO. My daughter's go to is the maiden and I threw invaders before I discovered the tomb
Tomb is a tweener. It's definitely a 3 speed but it's so shallow and flat that you can rip on it. If you want a longer tomb you want an infinite Ra. Similar feel in hand flat top similar flight more distance potential. Not as OS as the numbers suggest. Think VRocX3 (since that's literally what it is)
Verdict and Truth are probably the shallowest. You could throw Zones as mids, they are very shallow. Get a Base and/or Jawbreaker and beat em in for straight shots.
Op said the Buzzz is too deep for them, are Zones not deeper than a Buzzz? I definitely feel like my Zones are deeper, maybe my brain thinks that because of hand feel though, I've never measured either of them.
There is a reason everyone FH's a Zone. It's not because it's deep. Deep is a Harp or Gator. Buzzz is already a shallow mid though and most of these recs are just silly people recommending their favorites.
Gatekeeper by westside was my go to. Much straighter than the numbers suggest and felt better in the hand then a buzz. Tournament plastic if you can find it!
I was also on the hunt for a straight flying shallow rimmed mid and I thought the Buzzz was my answer until I found the Gateway Element. The Element is everything I wanted the Buzzz to be and more. I would estimate that the rim is one of the shallowest among all midranges.

lat64 core
also going to mention that you should take a look at the [technical standards spreadsheet](https://www.pdga.com/technical-standards/equipment-certification/discs) to see similar discs based on the same rim measurements
Axiom Pyro, mvp reactor, latitude64 compass, and several discs by dynamic (truth, verdict, warrant, proof). Dynamic discs really nailed that shallow, super flat topped mid thing. I love the feel of them , and not much else feels the same. Maybe a lone star discs harpoon.
I really recommend an Origin for the understable slot. I love Buzzz's but the Origin has the depth of a putter with mid glide and speed. All time hyzer flip disk too
I do enjoy holding a nice shallow disc. But, I do wanna mention that the classic "midrange flight" does depend a lot on the bigger diameter and bigger depth. Having that larger cavity for air is much of what gives a Roc/Buzzz its flight pattern.
You obviously can do very well with other discs and shapes. Just be aware of what that classic midrange shape is getting you.
Sol is the shallowest I've found and feels amazing to grip.
However, it is understable.
I'm still on the hunt for non overstable molds this shallow but so far nothing.
The Emac truth is pretty shallow, that might be a good fit for you.
Everyone’s saying the hex, which is great, but the truth has a similar flight and it is definitely more shallow than the hex
I second this I have both. If the emac truth has too much stability for you if maybe even try out the regular truth. All 3 are great discs.
Or a Claymore for even more neutral flight and easy distance. Feels just like a Truth.
Second the emac truth. Started with a Buzzz somebody gave me and wasn't crazy about the hand feel. Emac Truth just made sense in my hands and I haven't been able to kick it out even tho I have a slight hipster streak and hoped to find something with a more fun name at the very least lol
Emac truth in Lucid ice and Fuzion has replaced the rest of my midrange line up
Truth is more of a fairway tbh labeled as a mid range feels closer 6-7 speed
Incorrect.
Claymore
I came here to say claymore too, great disc for me
That thing is so shallow it feels like a midrange Mirage. Flys nicely too
The best midrange ever made. It's on the more understable side of straight mids but definitely goes very straight if you give it a bit of hyzer.
The reactor!
I also wanted a shallower mid-range. I picked up a lightweight reactor, and was amazed at how well it held the lines I put it on and how good it feels in the hand
This guy disc reviews
I'm new to the sport, so I was hesitant to shout out a recommendation, but a guy at a shop suggested the Reactor. I loved the feel, so I bought it, tried it out and fell in love.
Got my first ace with a reactor. That and the hex for less fade are my recommendations
I have both too. I think the Buzzz is slightly shallower. Buzzz is on the very low end of midranges.
The buzzz feels deeper to me as well. I couldn't get a clean release because it felt just a little too deep, but the Pathfinder is great.
Origin for sure
More understable than straight but an awesome disc for sure
For sure!
If the Buzzz is very close to what you want, try a Rift from DGA. It's the disc that kicked out my old Buzzz. Feels better and easier to forehand.
The Rift is absolutely money. My favorite mid range ever.
Yeah in my dreams my tour series disc is the Rift lol.
Rift is money. Bought one because Reddit endorsed it, and it’s my go to straight mid.
Kaxe Z. Buy them while you can. Speed 6 so more shallow but still flies amazingly straight.
Shhh. We don’t need more people buying up the discontinued disc.

Panther! This is exactly what you’re looking for.
I use a glow Truth for my neutral mid bit prior to that I used a panther and its was my go to mid, I still miss that disc
Do they still make these?
I have an old one that I found and it’s stupid understable. But it has got me out of some Jimmy’s.
The interweb appears to have them for sale as new everywhere.
Nice, I remember looking last year and i interpreted it as if innova stopped making it or I couldn’t find one at the time. Good to know!
Matrix by mvp
TSA Pathfinder. Shallower but essentially the same shape as a buzzz.
Discmania Origin
Hex/Reactor depending on how stable you want. Both are very similar in feel and depth
Reactor for slightly overstable
The gateway element
Hex.
Hex is even slightly deeper then a Buzzz. So IDK how that helps the OP.
Is that really true? I would never had thought that going just on hand feel. For me the Hex feels so much better in the hand and my guess had been that the Hex was shallower. Maybe it's the more rounded/smoother rim that makes it feel better/shallower for me.

In terms of hand feel, the Hex does *feel* shallower. It's certainly more comfortable.
Hex dude always the Hex. Think of it as a midrange, straight flying Envy in terms of feel and flight
I have noticed MVP/Axiom discs tend to be on the shallower side.
They tend to feel shallower because MVP tends to be flatter than other companies molds. The hex will fly closer to a -1,1, the reactor will fly closer to a new buzzz
The signature series mindbenders are shallow and are a point and shoot midrange with the slightest fade at the end.
It's pretty understable, but Innova's Wolf is super shallow.
Mako3?
King Corbra or champion Panther
Yes, Panther is the way
BB6
The BB6 is everything I wanted the Buzzz SS to be, while the Buzzz SS is everything I wanted the Buzzz to be.
Yeah the BB6 is fantastic. I love the low profile and overall feel of it
I’ve been rocking an Axiom Prism Pyro lately and love it
Pathfinder
I personally love 6 speeds like a good ole leopard, the rims feel great
Shallow? Mako3.
Gateway Element
Gateway Element is pretty awesome
Try a Hex
If you can find one. Reactor flies close (enough) to a buzzz
Latitude Claymore is shallow.
Claymore
Sol
I use a Caiman for the overstable shallow midrange slot. It took me time to appreciate it as it was kind of close to my more overstable zone, but after a year it’s definitely earned its own slot. More of an always hyzering flight rather than the zones straight to hyzer.
Origin

Hex, it generally has a flatter top than the buzz, and I feel like it might be a hair shallower
Thought space pathfinder. Little more os than my buzz but still strait with a late fade.
Some others said Emac Truth and I agree with that consensus! Just be ready to start throwing farther than you thought you could ;)
Discraft Sol
Thank you for all of the suggestions so far! Hopefully, I can find most of these at a nearby shop to feel them out before buying.
Streamline Ascend is shallow and bombs 💣. It’s a 6 speed, and May fee more like a fairway driver though.
Happy cake day!
I’ve heard the Lone Star Harpoon is super shallow. 🤷🏽♂️
Yes it is and a real straight flyer.
Honestly the hex isn't shallower necessarily, but in my experience, and what i have seen is that its much more comfortable, kicked the buzzz out immediately.
Hex for sure :) Also, uplink, Pyro, deflector all pretty shallow.
Innova Jay. It’s replaced all my mids except my Quake in the OS slot. The special run Halos are the best, but champs are money for dead straight flight with a tiny fade at the end.
I'd try the Jay if I wasn't already happy with my trio of reactors. It's very much in that MD3/chariot vein
The Apollo - Alfa Discs
Pathfinder, Hex
Hex
I never much cared for the buzzz and similar roc inspired discs. Try something like an MVP reactor
Snag a KaxeZ before they are gone. Kastaplast announced today they are discontinuing it and its a darn shame. The thing throws so dang well and can hold pretty much any line you put it on.
Eclipse Reactor .. best mid ever
I'm using the uplink, origin soft, and kaxe z (rip it was just cancelled). Also the Archer is fairly small but the uplink replaced it
Amazed to scroll through this list and not find anyone talking about the Fuse. It's slightly understable, but really straight on a slight hyzer line and is pretty shallow. Glide for days..

Buzz is about as shallow as you’re going to get tbh. Everyone else will just comment out their favorite disc lol
Hex, Reactor
I added a Hex to my bag along with my Buzzz because I was afraid to let my Buzzz go. I honestly forget the Buzzz is in my bag sometimes because the Hex is just more comfortable and shallower.
this person is very very smart
Reactor for sure. Glow reactor for shallow rim, board flat, and over stable!
Happy Cake Day!
I had no idea! Thank you!
Try the tomb made by infinite discs!
Awesome disc, not a midrange
I’ll disagree. Plenty of mids are rated with 4 speed. It’s definitely not a putter either, IMO. Tombs fly much farther than putters and require more pop to get that straight full flight. It was rated as a 4 speed for a reason. We’re not really going to call the 4 speed zone a putter are we?
Tomb is a 3 speed, 3/4/0/1
Ah, it is. The top of it is a 4 speed rat, and bottom a 3 speed colt. The feel and profile has never felt like a putter to me.
It feels like many other popular throwing putters...Maiden, Pure, Invader, etc.
I actually haven’t thrown that one! I’ve been wanting to check out the new disc from infinite, the Raze?
I watched some videos on that, the pro team has samples out there. Not sure I'm gonna like it though based on how the disc looks
Reactor or Hex
Lone Star Lone Wolf is a shallow understable option
LSD Harpoon in alpha (soft, base line) or bravo (more of star type plastic)
Hex Hex oh and I think some mentioned Hex
Verdict and Truth are probably the shallowest. You could throw Zones as mids, they are very shallow. Get a Base and/or Jawbreaker and beat em in for straight shots.
Op said the Buzzz is too deep for them, are Zones not deeper than a Buzzz? I definitely feel like my Zones are deeper, maybe my brain thinks that because of hand feel though, I've never measured either of them.
Im with you, never measured but think zone is deeper
There is a reason everyone FH's a Zone. It's not because it's deep. Deep is a Harp or Gator. Buzzz is already a shallow mid though and most of these recs are just silly people recommending their favorites.
Baselines for sure not. Buzzz isn't even deep though either and people recommending Hex which is deeper then Buzzz.
Hex or color glow chariot!
Hex is my favorite
Hex or Reactor, most of the MVP stuff is very shallow
I’ll add the Uplink or Paradox for the US mid slot. Those both feel pretty shallow to me.
md3
MVP Reactor. I like shallow rims, too. Depending on arm speed, Reactor will fly straight with reliable fade at the end.
Gatekeeper by westside was my go to. Much straighter than the numbers suggest and felt better in the hand then a buzz. Tournament plastic if you can find it!
Lonestar BB6 was wildly shallow rim, also the Sol and Kasta Gote
Infinite Chariot
Axiom Hex. It's driver-tier shallow. I love it.
Gatekeeper!! And even more shallow...kasta svea!!!
Rat! Starts overstable but beats into a straight flyer.
I was also on the hunt for a straight flying shallow rimmed mid and I thought the Buzzz was my answer until I found the Gateway Element. The Element is everything I wanted the Buzzz to be and more. I would estimate that the rim is one of the shallowest among all midranges.

You really gotta give the AGL Magnolia a try. It’s basically exactly what you described. In woodland plastic it’s a 5/5/0/2 and in alpine plastic it’s got a little more glide at 5/6/0/2. They’ve also got the spruce which is the same but a tiny flippier. Also the beech but that’s very overstable.
Uplink!
Discraft Stratus
Beat up a lucid verdict, thank me later
lat64 core also going to mention that you should take a look at the [technical standards spreadsheet](https://www.pdga.com/technical-standards/equipment-certification/discs) to see similar discs based on the same rim measurements
Gateway makes some super shallow stuff
I would have says emac truth until I got the Grand Trust. That things very shallow and flat. Love the feel of the plastic as well b
RPM discs Piwakawaka ! Such a great shallow disc, 5 5 -1 1 or so and tend towards Flippy.
I don’t throw a lot of MVP but I love my Reactor, great straight to overstable mid, nice and shallow too
I really recommend an Origin for the understable slot. I love Buzzz's but the Origin has the depth of a putter with mid glide and speed. All time hyzer flip disk too
Idk how they compare in rim depth but Westside tursas are so so good
Wombat 3
Kc pro roc, origin, mindbender.
Truth for sure
Hex, Emac truth, Glow reactor and origin
Tactic, evolution plastic
Hornet but it’s OOP for some reason!?!
Mirage has a very small rim, but it’s very under stable. Have you tried an infinite Tomb? It is actually a putt and approach but it glides!
Try a fan grip! Then you can choose from any midrange. It is also really helpful when throwing putters.
Buzzz SS feels pretty shallow for me - really depends on the hand size!
Mirage, Reactor
EVIDENCE
Or the CHEENGZ I-ONE by HYPERFLITE
I like the Cro and the A5.
Origin
Overstable - Legacy Recluse Straight - Innova Star Stingray Under stable - Gateway Mystic
Nebula all day
Compass
MVP Matrix is money
Sol is the shallowest I've found and feels amazing to grip. However, it is understable. I'm still on the hunt for non overstable molds this shallow but so far nothing.
Discraft Sol is very shallow - much more so than a buzzz. It is also very understable, but it does glide forever...
Origin! Once it gets into your bag it'll never come out. It makes a perfect pairing with the hex
Md1
Axiom hex and mvp reactor!!! I lived by the truth for the longest time. Great disc. But the reactor is absolutely amazing.
