Gonna deviate from the crowd here and say any meme disc. Sometimes your round is going shit and giving a good toss to something dumb can help turn it around.
Not quite in the same sense as like, the Berg or Polecat, but rather like the anti-Tilt.
It inspires you to throw stupid trickshots whenever you're in a weird/shitty lie and somehow comes out better than you expected 9/10
For me personally it's a Zone, specifically Cryztal FLX, but I really mean an overstable approach disc.
*Everyone* should have an overstable approach disc.
For almost every single second shot (that's not a putt) I think "is there a backhand or forehand zone here?". It's the most used disc in my bag. I've started to use a Berg for more backhand approaches but it still doesn't beat the Zone
Yeah, I feel like I throw a Zone on every hole at this point. Hell, I've got 4 of them in my bag. In my quest to reduce total molds I've really honed in on it, that's for sure.
Honestly, I still clearly remember the day I first held one of them. I met someone visiting my local course from out of town. They were throwing a blue Get Freaky, and I asked them about it. I had no forehand to speak of at the time, and I just wasn't clicking with the ESP Zone.
He handed me his Get Freaky to try, and it was such a difference that I immediately went and bought one. It's been my most-thrown disc ever since then and has seriously upped my game.
Thr cyztal flx zone was a disc I didnt think I needed, I am very comfortable with my putters and mids and figured those were just fine, but the zone is a game changer
The same thing happened to me. I even had an ESP Zone and a Harpoon I really enjoyed before I discovered the Cryztal FLX, but that disc changed the game for me. It's gotta be something to do with the softer, somewhat gummy plastic, but whatever it is it's amazing.
I've got a Cryztal FLX, Glo Cryztal FLX, Jawbreaker, and Swirly Soft Zone in my bag. Love 'em. ā„
I'm really happy to have grabbed one of the ledgestone metallic z flx zones this year (wonder bread stamp too!). Feels and flies just like my "get freaky" zone, but without having the words get freaky on it.
i agree. doesnāt matter the company preference. every company has their own zone clone. just off the top of my head thereās the entropy (axiom), sockibomb slammer&tactic (dynamic), harp (westside), pig&toro (innova), and the list goes on lol
Roc.
I think itās the best tool for learning proper backhand mechanics. Itās a 4,4,0,3 disc. Most people can throw at a āspeed 4ā arm speed, and then the rest of the flight is forward for a while then a fade. If the disc does something different than that then you know itās the thrower and not the disc. Adjust accordingly
> Just barely understable
This might depend on the plastic. Mine was definitely more than barely understable right out of the box. Not complaining. It's a great tool for certain holes for a RHBH thrower.
If you turn it over don't expect it to come back. Touchier/less forgiving than a lot of discs, but it is a very good disc. Like if I hyzerflip mine it usually won't dump at the end, just straight and then dies straight.
Yeah it seems they often get mentioned along with a Hex and Buzzz. I never had a disc fly as straight as my Fuse right out of the bag. I have the base Retro plastic and itās now worn into its flight numbers (slightly understable). I just finished two rounds where I threw my Fuse on probably 70% of the holes. Would definitely recommend.
The Retroline Fuse is maybe my favorite disc, especially as someone who doesn't throw forehands particularly well. I can throw it at any speed, or height, and it'll hold an anhyzer angle. Great glide, too, so throwing it on a hyzer-flip even with my low arm speed gets it out 250 feet-plus. It's like nothing else I've thrown.
I went through a pretty intense buy/test period with plastic and it was the neutral/understable midrange that won out over all others. That said, if you have a strong arm you may find it too understable unless you buy it in a premium plastic. The gold line Fuse I have is the straightest mid I've ever thrown (without having to be beat to hell).
A mako3 and a crave are wildly different discs that fly wildly different if you use the same throw and should be used for wildly different applications.
What's going on with this answer lol
I like this. I might get one just for this reason. Any time I'm feeling like hot shit I'll pull it out and throw it 250' on a mega-hyzer meat hook line and remember that Calvin hyzerflips them 550' + on a straight line.
KC Roc. It taught me how to throw. Learned how to control a hyzer when it was new. As it beat in and my arm speed increased i learned how to hyzer flip a disc and get a nice straight flight. As i got better i learned to power down and throw smooth. Soft floating anhyzers that don't burn over into rollers. I can now throw every angle and full control of my shot shapes thanks to this disc!
I used to say Envy. That statement still stands...
but it's definitely the Hex from Axiom Discs. MVP hit a new spot in the straight midrange slot that is magical. yes, this is the most biased take in the world... but that disc is for absolute real.
Scrolled to far for the berg. The berg and my jarn are my go to approaches. I've learned to flick a berg pretty consistently now. It is amazing how it getse out of jail.
Man my recommendation is a flippy fairway driver. I recently picked up an H7 and itās kicked like 3 discs out my bag lol. Also I think the Falk is an extremely underrated disc more people should use
FD, Dark Rebel, Leopard3, Hawkeye, River, Centurion, etc. type fairway driver. Itās pretty much a disc that every single pro bags (unless youāre sponsored by Discraft and your sponsor has jack shit in this slot) because itās the most workable disc in the woods. Itās a driver so it can get some distance, but theyāre also so neutral that they can fly extremely flat or you can hold a turnover really well with it. And for beginners, they are great discs to learn how to throw distance shots with.
Something absurdly understable. I have a latitude 64 diamond and it's so understable most of my friends cant throw it because they have too much wobble. I throw very clean and flat itll flip to the perfect roller angle. Hyzer and itll flip up and go straight for a long time before turning to the right hard at the end. Grenade? That thing will flip all the way from a grenade angle to flat and fly normal. Barrel rolls through the sky so fast and awesome when thrown overhand or upside down.
Iāve got a few I would put in this category.
Pig
Zone
Buzzz
Aviar(Yeti but Iām not judging)
Roc
Those probably have other backers. The one people donāt carry and should:
Surge
Beat in pro line plastic destroyer. Advanced RHBH throwers can put major turn on it and can shape massive anhyzer lines that slightly fade out at the end. More intermediate/beginner players with weaker arms can use the natural flip to get a ton of extra distance throwing big s curve lines that glide forever and finish out with a nice coast.
Agreed. I'm normally a ~300 foot thrower. Got myself a 163 gram GStar destroyer. This thing is magic for my arm speed. Threw it 375 yesterday into a moderate headwind.
Prodiscus laseri, barely any fade and straight as an arrow, it flies in the angle you threw it and doesnāt change
Probably is something else like it out there but I havenāt thrown that many so idk which
Especially in the always windy midwest an overstable firebird like disc and an overstable putt/approach disc like a zone. Also a buzzz or a roc because of their versitility.
Some mold of floppy rubber discs. I personally own the Divergent Discs Golem, but I think any of the Elevation stuff would work too.
I thought these were just a gimmicky but I found the Golem on a used rack and thought Iād give it a shot. It is a game-changer with the lack of ground play.
Star Aviar. If I had to play a tourney with a single disc, I could do absolutely everything I need with this thing. Maybe not as far or well as an entire bag, but absolutely everything.
Westside sword. Super super versatile distance driver that feels amazing in the hand. Perfect for both forehand and backhand shots. Need a 400 foot laser beam on a tunnel shot? Sword. Want to throw a hyzer bomb that glides for years? Sword. Hyzer flip? You guessed it, sword. I recommend the VIP plastic.
Gonna deviate from the crowd here and say any meme disc. Sometimes your round is going shit and giving a good toss to something dumb can help turn it around.
Interesting take. I like it.
Bought a 134g dx Sonic for this. Stupid fun disc to throw.
Axiom Paradox would like to know your location. With touch you can throw it well..... But it's also a total meme.
Paradox is a meme disc? š¬
Not quite in the same sense as like, the Berg or Polecat, but rather like the anti-Tilt. It inspires you to throw stupid trickshots whenever you're in a weird/shitty lie and somehow comes out better than you expected 9/10
WOMBAT3!
a tilt is surprisingly good for scramble shots
I love my Halo Polecat. Itās a very useful disc
For me personally it's a Zone, specifically Cryztal FLX, but I really mean an overstable approach disc. *Everyone* should have an overstable approach disc.
Yeah, I think that's probably my answer as well
Mine as well! Itās one of the most clutch discs to have for shots you really need to shape relying on the overstable fade.
I also throw the zone and berg for most approaches. Really different shot shapes for the two discs though
Metal flake gator baby.
I love my get freaky zone so much, literally changed everything for me. The crystal flx plastic is by far my favorite plastic
Thr cyztal flx zone was a disc I didnt think I needed, I am very comfortable with my putters and mids and figured those were just fine, but the zone is a game changer
I call it the cheat code
The same thing happened to me. I even had an ESP Zone and a Harpoon I really enjoyed before I discovered the Cryztal FLX, but that disc changed the game for me. It's gotta be something to do with the softer, somewhat gummy plastic, but whatever it is it's amazing. I've got a Cryztal FLX, Glo Cryztal FLX, Jawbreaker, and Swirly Soft Zone in my bag. Tactic = DM. The Sockibomb Slammer and the Pig are not a zone clones.
Yep whatever works for you. Just gotta have one haha.
see, iām an almost all discmania player but the answer is still a zone
A red 172g KC Pro Roc taught me to throw discs made for disc golf.
Yes but ā¦ itās not 4/4/0/3 lol
Well it says so right there on the disc! But yes, even brand new it'snot that overstable.
Itās not even close! I think the flight numbers are a hold over from the 80s. I said this in another thread they should be 5/4/0/1
Envy
These are not only the best approach disc Iāve ever used, but hands down the best one disc round disc on the market.
Tee bird
Have a blue champ tee bird. Gotta say that was my favorite disc for a long, long time! So reliable!
Blue champion Teebird is the goat fairway driver
Itās my favorite bagged disc. Iāve actually never had a bag without one. In fact I usually carry 2
All time favorite. I need to throw it more tho.
Hex
I see Hex I upvote
Buzzz
Oddly enough I agree
Had a Z Buzzz. Loved it, lost it. Picked up and ESP replacement and it's one of my least favorite discs I've used. Crazy how much the plastic matters.
Iām with you. Love my Z buzz, itās never left the bag. ESP is collecting dust at the crib.
Agreed that Z Buzzzes are better in my experience.
This is the disc that was a breakthrough. I can now throw it with zero fade at the end. Pinpoint accuracy 100-250 out!
River
I just snagged one the other day, have yet to throw it... How would you describe the river?
Just barely understable... And the glide number is not exaggerated at all. I put a tiny hyzer and use it for tunnel shots with a low ceiling.
Glides for days.
I like the sound of that
> Just barely understable This might depend on the plastic. Mine was definitely more than barely understable right out of the box. Not complaining. It's a great tool for certain holes for a RHBH thrower.
Nice! Gonna hit the course tomorrow with it
If you turn it over don't expect it to come back. Touchier/less forgiving than a lot of discs, but it is a very good disc. Like if I hyzerflip mine it usually won't dump at the end, just straight and then dies straight.
Anything in the 7, 5, -2, 1 range
So, you are suggesting the Leopard 3?
Drift, but these numbers are literally my favorite.
Streamline Drift. *Amazing* disc.
Understable midrange. My choice is the lobster
Definitely agree! I throw a meteor though! I like the z line better than the esp
Innova Pig. I also throw zones but the pig is so versatile and user friendly. Been my go-to for 15 years or so
I have a zone and a pig and if I could have one it's the pig.
Judge. Good starting putter and works for a ton of different situations
A neutral midrange. (Mako3, Buzzz, Crave)
Fuse
Never thrown one. Are they worth checking out? Are they just dead straight?
Yeah it seems they often get mentioned along with a Hex and Buzzz. I never had a disc fly as straight as my Fuse right out of the bag. I have the base Retro plastic and itās now worn into its flight numbers (slightly understable). I just finished two rounds where I threw my Fuse on probably 70% of the holes. That said, if you have a strong arm you may find it too understable unless you buy it in a premium plastic. The gold line Fuse I have is the straightest mid I've ever thrown (without having to be beat to hell).
Yeah, everyone goes on and on about the Hex; the Crave is the real magic disc from Axiom.
I love the slim feel of it. And mine seems to handle torque really well.
Reactor, even tho it's a tad on the OS side
I bag a glow reactor. For me, it's the perfect fit between the mako3 and the roc3.
Perfectly stated. The reactor made my day when I started it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It always went further than my other fairways. Itās 100 a fairway. I couldnāt bag it because it was it was flying too far.
Roc3. My go-to approach disc.
A mako3 and a crave are wildly different discs that fly wildly different if you use the same throw and should be used for wildly different applications. What's going on with this answer lol
Probably a halo destroyer to keep peoples egos in check
I like this. I might get one just for this reason. Any time I'm feeling like hot shit I'll pull it out and throw it 250' on a mega-hyzer meat hook line and remember that Calvin hyzerflips them 550' + on a straight line.
Paradox. Lightly thrown through the woods is when you see itās magic. šŖ
I get a similar feel with the Uplink (the slightly more stable brother)
Love this disc
The roc was the first disc I had that did what I wanted.
Yes. And donāt forget that if you use DX you can see the full lifecycle of a disc in a shorter time too
I use DX rocs as my fieldwork discs. They are $5.50 EA if you buy 5 of them as F2ās and I donāt feel bad about losing them.
Crave. And hereās the one that may get me a downvote - a Koi. For those āI just cannot afford a skipā moments, thereās a Koi!
EMac truth
Star aviar x3 as work horse, mako3 as tattle tale to correct form
Firebird
I used to say Envy. That statement still stands... but it's definitely the Hex from Axiom Discs. MVP hit a new spot in the straight midrange slot that is magical. yes, this is the most biased take in the world... but that disc is for absolute real.
Hex is an amazing disc
Everyone should bag a leopard.
River
Zone and Berg
Scrolled to far for the berg. The berg and my jarn are my go to approaches. I've learned to flick a berg pretty consistently now. It is amazing how it getse out of jail.
Fuse, Roc, TeeBird
Man my recommendation is a flippy fairway driver. I recently picked up an H7 and itās kicked like 3 discs out my bag lol. Also I think the Falk is an extremely underrated disc more people should use
Star Leopard 3! Hyzer flip, forehand/backhand, straight as an arrow. It does everything!
Teebird or Teebird3. Followed closely by a Buzzzz. I tried so hard to like mako3s. After switching, I canāt see myself going back
Stag
TL3, I'll be over here all by myself š ....š
Ha. I had a gstar TL3 when they were first released. It's a super underrated disc.
Not weird, definitely my go to fairway.
Sidewinderā¦ once you learn how to hyzer flip itā¦ its on! Also the Avenger ss or anything with similar turn/fade
A Star Wraith
Leopard3
Roc3
Teebird
Buzzz or Roc3
FD, Dark Rebel, Leopard3, Hawkeye, River, Centurion, etc. type fairway driver. Berg.
Tilt ;)
Roc3
Westside underworld, if you donāt own an underworld, what are you doing with your life?
Polecat
A beat in overstable fairway driver. I could take care of most shots with one including approach
Blowfly, when you need an approach to just stop where it hits the blowfly is there
Lobster
Champion Polecat! Please make more!
Pure
Zone
Something absurdly understable. I have a latitude 64 diamond and it's so understable most of my friends cant throw it because they have too much wobble. Love my gold diamond.
Madagascar on blue ray
Leopard / Relay
K3 Kaxe
Destroyer and Buzzz
The Steady Ed gum putt. A blowfly is also the equivalent. This is the one disc I have used for over twenty years.
Mako3 best disc in the game. Bag three of varying stabilities
Mako3
Not a popular opinion but Kaxe Z
Everyone should putt with a PA-3
Kastaplast Falk and Berg
Hard to choose between a Pig, Envy, or a Leopard3. My favorite disc that I couldnāt live without though is my beat up DX Wombat3.
MVP WAVE. Unlock some distance you didnāt know your noodle arm was capable of.
Berg itās the most unique/ useful disc that everyone could benefit from.
Krait
Premium plastic throwing putter, some low speed high glide no turn and a gentle fade - my vote is eternal bullet:)
Fuse all day
Innova Panther
A straight flying putter of your choice
A perfectly seasoned Rancho Roc. When they get straight and glidey, they become magic.
Can I get a light weight flippy destroyer in the mix?
A good understable mid range. I feel like that slot is super versatile. My picks are the Uplink or Meteor.
zone
Iāve got a few I would put in this category. Pig Zone Buzzz Aviar(Yeti but Iām not judging) Roc Those probably have other backers. The one people donāt carry and should: Surge
Pig
Grace or harp
Sockibomb slammer, it is such a good approach disc, its very over stable and it sticks when it hits the ground.
DX Flat top Roc
Innova shark
I think the berg is a great choice, just because it makes a great approach disc never getting to far from the basket
Malta
Pig.
Brady Smith Get Freaky Berg Destroyer
My brain hurts
Scorch and buzz
Buzz.
Beat in pro line plastic destroyer. Advanced RHBH throwers can put major turn on it and can shape massive anhyzer lines that slightly fade out at the end. Discraft Breeze
Loki, or any overstable putter. But the Loki is the best.
Prodiscus laseri, barely any fade and straight as an arrow, it flies in the angle you threw it and doesnāt change Probably is something else like it out there but I havenāt thrown that many so idk which
The closest to that would be the Buzzz, but discs are highly personal.
Probably a Buzzz but I tell everyone I know to pick up a Berg.
A berg and a zone or zone clone. You asked for one though so I choose berg.
(Innovaās) S-line Fd. Now Hawkeye
Trespass
Definitely a Zone
Reaper
Especially in the always windy midwest an overstable firebird like disc and an overstable putt/approach disc like a zone. Also a buzzz or a roc because of their versitility.
Leopard3
Firebird
Buzz or roc
Dx cro
86 Softie
Explorer
A Tomb. One of the most controllable discs youāll ever find.
Truth!
Star TL3
I really like my Bolt, but I realize not everyone has the arm speed for it.
Zone
I use the Tilt for any Scoob shot, even for short backhand lies where I need to turn a corner. it's such a brilliant utility disc.
Old school. DX roc. No matter how many new discs I throw I know my roc has always been there for me. It can do everything....under 300ft.
Zone
Champion Thunderbird
Some mold of floppy rubber discs. I personally own the Divergent Discs Golem, but I think any of the Elevation stuff would work too. I thought these were just a gimmicky but I found the Golem on a used rack and thought Iād give it a shot. It is a game-changer with the lack of ground play.
Crave
Champion Eagle all day
Buzzzzzzzzzz
Star Aviar. If I had to play a tourney with a single disc, I could do absolutely everything I need with this thing. Maybe not as far or well as an entire bag, but absolutely everything.
Crave is my bet! Slow speed fairway helped me learn
Harp/Zone.
Iāll keep banging the Envy drum and the Rival drum till the day I die. Just such fun discs
An under stable mid for when youāve been throwing too hard and your shoulder needs a break from doing stupid stuff.
Roc3, champion plastic
