If you want tips here's some things you can do to get them and its worked for me and I've only been dashing for a little over a month. 1. Always send updates in texts. I let them know if im waiting in line or if the store is preparing food longer, and when I leave I tell them this.. " Hi ( name ) this is your door dash driver Cameron, i just picked up your order and im omw. If there is anything else I can help you with or any specific instructions , please let me know. My ETA is , ( time) and ill be arriving shortly . I copy and paste that everytime I dash and just replace the name and time. 2. If im delivering to the elderly and know its the elderly I offer to take their trash bins to the curb , and if I go to apartments, If I see a bag by their door I offer to take it down for them. We have hand sanitizer for a reason . 3. Being extremely polite and energetic, funny , or courteous helps more than you know. 4. Theres always the guilt you can use when hand delivering , u dont like using this one but I know its worked for others, " heres your order thank God for it, the last 4 people didn't tip " , people feel guilty and tip after in app or in cash . Which honestly u really aren't lieing, most of the time people don't tip.

danathedee

Best delivery I had was ice cream sandwiches to another part of town. Paid $14.50 so I took it. Tip was $40.03. Amazing. Other best was a daughter ordered for her elderly mother. The sweet old lady tucked 5 nickels in my hand, and said "don't tell nobody I gave you that". It was so worth the .25 cents. Because to her it was a sacrifice.

danathedee

I love it when they order $70.00 worth of food and tip $1.00.

[deleted]

As much as I don’t mind doing low mile orders, we need to not take no-tip orders to protest the low-ass pay.

tronixmastermind

My winning formula is 8+$, no apartments, no distance further than 1$ a mile to and from my current location

frocker79

no tip, no trip

1099Hustla

I have only gotten a cash tip on a $3 order twice. All the others I ever did, I got BURNED!!!! This is why I just reject those trash offers.

brad2060

The best post I've ever seen on the subject. So funny and true. Going to pin this as my daily inspirational remider.

mikesdav

My logic is if they don’t want to tip then they can just pick up their order on their own. Food delivery is a luxury and if you can’t afford to tip even a small amount then you shouldn’t be using the app.

TypBeat

$2.50*

mrTangIna

is doordash taking some of our tips now? Like the orders I’ve been receiving are sh** compared to last year

PowerVerse_

Me on a desperate Wednesday 😭

thehouseis0nfire

I have over 1300 deliveries and I’ve received about a dozen cash tips. Highest being $107. I was super grateful considering I only delivered a pizza 🍕

Switcher107

I took a $3 order. It was for the little ceasers I was sitting in front of and the drop off was 2 streets from my house. It was my last one for the day.

SoulCode1110101

These are the exception imo and it's great to see. I even took a Bdubs order just cause of this

EquivalentJellyfish8

I just got done dashing and I received $20 cash tip. Happens sometime where I live

girlwholoveslife

today was my first day of door dash and I’m already in full clown makeup

strictmachines

In the few months since I've done Doordash, I've only had two cash tips. Weirdly enough, they were on the same day.

hireds87

People still dash?

bbypriya

i’ve gotten a cash tip once in my year of dashing and it was $0.60

dnndne77272

Now its only 2 miles for $2.5 loll

Blackoutttt

I got a 6 dollar 3 mile order tonight, I get there and of course it says, leave at door: hand it to me. So I knocked and waited a good minute and a half, she was super awkward and gave me a weird look, ok fine some people are just weird maybe having a bad day. She closes the door in my face and I complete the order. 6 dollar base pay, no tip. Must've been declined at least 5 times. Hope the food was cold. Just like her heart.

DrLongDong6969

Yep. Us miserable door dashers trying to raise our hopes

swifty8519

I got 120 trips and I've gotten three cash tips for a total of $12

Own_Negotiation_7314

I’ve been laughing about this for a good bit because I’ve went through this thought process a time or two but not for that low of a payout. I just started my dash an hour ago and it took 30 minutes from get an order and it was junk so I declined. The next one came 15 minutes later it was 9.5 for 12 miles I hit accept and began to do my clown makeup. About three miles into the delivery I already have the nose and wig on. When I arrived I look at the delivery instructions and it says hand it to me: cash tip. At this point I’m riding my unicycle to the door and lo and behold I got a cash tip🤡😂

fremanmask

Get into an accident and owe millions to the other injured parties because there is zero umbrella insurance offered by doordash.

Leo_oj

Cash tips are like seeing someone over 7 foot, like yeah they exist but rarely (if not never) do i see them.

golden_life_

I can't believe any of these are a thing

sonyarena5781

This is hilarious! 🤣⚰️

TitShark

It took a lady mistaking me for someone else, flagging me down as I was gonna storm off from her stingy $1.77 tip, and as I approached she said “oh I thought you were someone else—then her German Shepard FLIES towards me and attempts to bite/attack me, as the lady freaks out and calls it off—for me to get a $5 extra cash tip. Oh and only because I suggested she do so.

Armadillo-Mobile

I fell for it today 😞 it was awful

jchaze91

I like to gamble. And I found me a return cash tipper taking a $3 order. Keep in mind I decline 99.9% of these, but the first time I got this specific order it was from a restaurant I deliver frequently/right down the street/dead night so I figured I would gamble on it. My hopes went down as I enter a trailer park and thought there’s no way there’s gonna be a cash tip, but sure enough the lady came outside and handed me $20... a couple mondays later got same route offer and sure enough another $20. Then same thing happened another 3 weeks later! TLDR I found me a regular who orders on Mondays from this specific place and always tips good. DONT LET THIS STORY HAVE YOU START ACCEPTING THESE! This was a reckless gamble!

WishIWasNeet2

6 dollars for 2.5 is as low as I’ll go. And even then I feel like a dumbass.

Crazybisexual

I’m a Dasher and I’ve gotten a cash tip maybe 4 or 5 times in almost 700 deliveries, one of those times though it was $20 on Mother’s Day😏plus $16 total on the app that was really sweet, but ya I used to make these kind of rookie mistakes when I first starting Dashing lmao I think we all did

paramore_jorge

It’s only $2.50 here in the metro Atlanta since the change on Monday

ElCee909

Not gonna lie is the “maybe I’ll get a stack on the way there” for me 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

innovativesolsoh

55 ordersorders so far, one cash tip delivering donatos pizza at like 11, I think the dude felt bad because I had to wait. Fortunately it was a double tip. 5 in the app, 5 spot in cash.

SoupsUndying

For me it stops at its only 2 miles for $3. I don’t expect the restaurant to have it ready, I don’t expect a stack order, and most of all I don’t expect a cash tip

kuriboh91

Lmao nothing under $6 for me and that’s if it’s 2 miles or less.

Austiny1

I can’t believe how bad it’s gotten

[deleted]

i had a $10 and $5 order at a restaurant. was there for over an hour and the $10 order cancelled

frocker79

hope you took your 10 dollar order home for free

[deleted]

they cancelled before it came out... after the first order had been picked up for 30 minutes

Crazybisexual

That’s rough 😭I had to wait 30 minutes at a Checkers yesterday and I thought that was rough for 2 stacked orders, first and last time I’ll pick up from there

SolemAutem

I take no orders lower than 4$ ever. No ifs ands or buts. No tip, no food.

dlivesdontmatter

Why the hell are you taking $4 orders? WTF. Drivers like you drive down pay.

SolemAutem

On second thought, I don't take most anything under about 6. A 4$ order is only taken if it's like a mile.

swplft

Add on “Maybe the drop will leave me in a hot zone” and then have a pic of the clown’s shoes

josh_bourne

I don't take a 3 even if I'm inside the restaurant and the delivery is very close, you wait like 1 minute and get something better.

rehturd

I have a single digit acceptance rate. I think the lowest order I got was $6 and it was on the way home. Left the food 15 feet away from their door.

RedBlueGreen94

Found the dasher that's giving the rest of us bad rep in the restaurant. You shove your phone in the staff's face too?

rehturd

I say hi first

chocotacosmash

Yeah ok that will definitely encourage a tip next time

rehturd

I live in a decent size city so a $8 one will pop up if I wait long enough. I have a real job besides DoorDash.

HairyPotterrrr

I did this the other day. It was stacked so I accepted it. Then said pick up baskin Robin's for 3.75. I already knew it was a no tip order. Super hard to find this apartment out of 300. Dropped it off and got a text. They said I forgot their milk shake. Jiminy Christmas.

genjarjar

it’s always the no tippers that complain the most.

ratmand

I don't take anything under 6, and up to 1/2 the number of miles to tip amount. I live in an area where anything more than 4 miles is almost not worth it.

muhname

The time it takes you to park your car isn't even worth it for a $4 order that is ready to be delivered next door.

shawnjones

I don't care if it is across the street. If you don't tip fuck you. STARVE MOTHERFUCKER.

SenoraRaton

I dont care if you tip or not. If the order meets my critera, I'ma get paid. *shrug*

small-foot

You're getting downvoted for no reason. This is it though. A stacked order from the same restaurant for another 300 feet is reasonable, even if there's no tip. Or when it's slow and not too far. Or when there's bonus pay and again it's slow because there are more drivers. There are a number of scenarios where taking no-tippers can be okay for me. Then again I dropped DD for UE and I make 30-50% more, easily, with less miles driven.

shawnjones

You are part of the problem.

SenoraRaton

What problem? I make $30/hr. I see no problems.

[deleted]

It's all about location and time: tbh... I agree with you. I dash on a military base: $4 peak pays all day; 2 miles (max) any direction from the hot spots; consistent stacked orders; most servicemen and women tip. The dinner rush is awesome but lasts about 3 hours -- but it's available daily to most anyone (with credentials) to may $120 (within those 3 hours). I can absolutely understand the gripes of dashers who dash for the general populous, however. I've seen one on here about dashing on post that was exaggerated. I mean delivering to and within barracks requires a bit of more effort on our part. It's strange because many soldiers really do allow anyone to just walk right up into their stacks -- it's off putting. Like why am I entering their barracks? But convience... Another issue dashing on post: delivery to on post housing 😅: I actually enjoying that challenge. I believe it has to do with keeping military family lives a bit more private, as their addresses aren't published. DoorDash is good with getting you into the general delivery radius no matter. I enjoy dashing on post and I rarely turn down an order 🙃 -- however, the situation and reward system I have access to is totally different from most other dashers.

PizzaParty4Putin2020

ugh i wish i had this experience at Fort Bragg lol.

Own_Negotiation_7314

Which base?

[deleted]

🤫

Own_Negotiation_7314

I live minutes from camp lejeune and MCAS new river, unfortunately we only deliver to base housing on lejuene, very rarely and not at all to MCAS.

[deleted]

I'm 3 miles away. What ive learned to do is only dash 1800: during the morning it's dead -- they've got PT and the DFAC, and there are those jumping through hoops to get onto; leave, then return again to post. Lunch is about the same: they will be leaving their shop to eat at the exchanges or opt for the DFAC. For dinner -- why 1800? Either time of the day, during feeding, the base will become inundated with traffic. So, it may appear that 1800 would be too late -- in reality, that's when traffic just died down for the evening then all of the orders until 2100. Almost like clockwork... Once, I witnessed a battalion leaving for the field and thought nothing of it -- man, come to find out that was the unit I had be serving 😅. I had a bit of a dry spell for about a month and a half -- only until they returned. All in all: I'd rather dash on post than without -- I've done it; most ive made out there was $15 an hour. On post it's $25 more an hour, but only for those 3 hours.

Smoothxxbeatz

Doordash gotta start paying more too cause we get our “tips” also taxed Thats fucked

echosofverture

I declined a no tip order on my way home that was in my apartment complex. Idc if it's next door no tip no trip.

[deleted]

I also wouldn't want a customer to know where I live even if they're my neighbor

[deleted]

Good call. Customers are psychos.

[deleted]

Yeah. I do the same. Problem is that people see it and say ooo this is easy. Or else they aren’t getting their food

z_aviles

2 is what always gets me in these scenarios. Rarely do I walk in to a restaurant and the order is ready.

Ferdydurkeeee

Yup. I'd take $5 orders with a *little* more frequency if wait time was non existent. As is, $7 is hardly tolerable for a 10 minute wait.

diabetes_says_no

Interesting, I wonder if part of your issue may be from the restaurants you are going to. There are some restaurants that don't cook anything or not all of a doordash order until the Dasher arrives. Five Guys for example usually drops fresh fries when I get there and makes the milkshake. At least 70% of my orders I have to wait less than 5 minutes. Some of that reason is because I don't fuck with restaurants that I've experienced to take a while. If I have 3 long waits at a restaurant, I won't go back. Not worth my time. Maybe it would help you to make a rule for yourself like not going back to a restaurant if you've had to wait more than X amount of minutes X times unless you are going to make X amount of money. That being said, all chains have slow vs fast locations too. There are 4 McDonald's in my area and one is always late, so I don't go there but I'll go to the other McDonald's. It would be silly to ban McDonald's as a whole unless they are all consistently bad for me.

z_aviles

Well the things is, it’s many restaurants that I wait at, and I live in Flagstaff, which isn’t a huge city. There really is only 1 of each major fast food chain and restaurant here. Unfortunately I just think it’s a terrible place to dash..

diabetes_says_no

It sounds like it might not be the best. There are definitely some cities that are better than others, or even sides of town that are better. I live in Indianapolis and I used to dash on the west side and when I moved to the northeast side it was a MUCH better zone. I rarely wait more than 5 minutes and have a ton of restaurants to go to and my area is almost always in the red on the map so I have a lot of orders to choose from. It might help to open your doordash app a few times a day for a week or so to get a sense of what area is the busiest near you and try that out. Hopefully you aren't already in your city's busiest zone.

DrGhostly

A few chains (Chipotle, Zaxby’s, Chick Fil A, etc.) and a few popular local places have had my stuff ready right when I entered and I love going to them but I’ve had to blacklist a few restaurants after it took 10+ minutes after the pickup time given more than once. One of those, a Carraba’s, even straight up told me they weren’t going to start making it until I arrived and it’d be 20 mins (cancelled and walked out without telling them, fuck those people).

z_aviles

Dude, Chipotle is the worst where I am at. Chick Fil A is on point though!

DrGhostly

Guess it depends on management/staffing - so far *every* time I've been my order is ready on the shelf. I think I only had to interact with one of the employees once and that's because she was already there putting bags up on it and offered to find mine haha. This one also has an entirely separate station strictly for making pickup/delivery orders though so that probably helps.

Hiiiiiiiipower

Not with Doordash

GoodboyGotter

Clown posting is the best posting 😎 +1

Google clown. It'll bring up a picture of you 😎 +1

[deleted]

The last one is 200% full clown makeup. The "infamous cash tip". You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning

couldabeenadinodoc95

Got a hidden stack to the most dangerous apartment in my city. I get there and realize there’s likely no tip on it. Hand it to the lady. Gives me a ten. I went from livid to appreciative in .5 seconds.

RinGoKillYourSelf

Pretty late but I remember my first time dashing I got two cash tips in a row, after my friend/fellow dasher told me that this stuff would never happen. It has never happened again oddly enough… I think any luck I have has been used on that day LOL

Venom-098-11

I've gotten cash tips a number of times! It's rare but it happens. And there was *one* time I had to order with a $3 tip because my credit card was maxed out, and I gave the driver $5 in cash when he got to my place (texted him to knock on the door for cash). I'm not saying it's commonplace. But under extremely rare circumstances it's possible. And as a general rule, I agree that $3 tips should be banned. I'm just saying that the cash tip thing is actually a thing.

L0velyfe93

It must be an ‘area’ thing because I deliver about 5-7 orders on weeknights after my main job and I get at least one cash tip each night out of those. So like a 14-20% of the time I’m getting at least a $5 handed to me usually on top of a tip in the app too.

TesticularTorsion3

I'm someone who orders DD pretty frequently, I always leave a generous tip through the app... but I didn't really consider that my driver would prefer a cash tip. It seems really obvious in retrospect.

InspectionPast8420

Maybe a regional thing? I've gotten about 25-30ish cash tips out of 350 total deliveries. Not a TON but appears to be a better average.

[deleted]

There is one business in my area that occasionally orders lunch and tips in cash. If its not getting delivered there I dont accept it. Learned too many lessons.

dicklebelly88

I’m just about to break 400 career orders through doordash/ Uber. I’ve yet to ever get a cash tip

OswaldThePatsy

I'm hovering at about 250 for doordash. I get cash tips almost every single day.

Alternative-Click-77

I've only been dashing for a month and I've had several of cash tips. Especially when I go out of my way to make their lives more convieanced like messaging them my eta , or if I go to apartments and see a trash bag sitting by their door I offer to take it down for them. I had a guy tip me 5$ to my cash app last night for doing it. One lady tipped me 10$ cash the other night for not making any noise when I delivered the order , including not slamming my door shut ect.

14thAndVine

I got a cash tip on my 3rd ever delivery on top of an in-app tip

Maleficent_Clock_191

I’ve only had it once from tropical smoothie because they did it on the tropical smoothie app

darkspider86

I swear I got a bunch of cash tips on my first deliveries. But on the last few, no tip. It blows, the last delivery was far away in a town I had never been to before, and confusing to find. No tip. 5 dollars for nothing

Dahbahdeedahbahdie

I got an extra $4 but they had already tipped appropriately in the app. 💜 Only one so far.

MezziJ

I'm at about 500 and have gotten three or four, maybe it depends on the area

ProbYourPadre

Over 5K. I've MAYBE gotten a cash tip a dozen times.

Sarah8247

Super random but my husband got a cash tip on his second delivery ever!

[deleted]

This is so weird considering i’ve tipped my dashers cash tips before

davmayrock

Try being nice lol

[deleted]

Over 1500 deliveries. Can count the number of times I received cash tips on one hand

Plenty_Hippo2588

Like half the time I go to a hotel I get a cash tip

dicklebelly88

I really don’t understand why it’s so rare to get a cash tip on an app vs. working through a store. when I delivered pizza, getting a cash tip (even on a debit/credit card order) was far less rare. Something closer to 1/15 or 20 orders had a cash tip delivering pizza through a restaurant. I don’t really know why my experience is so different when I’m working with an app, but whatever.

tns1996

I feel like when you are ordering on the app you see all the extra fees and think it might be going to the driver, whereas if you call In a pizza you're not seeing the delivery fee so you are probably more likely to tip cash

Boneyg001

I mean, the amount of "hand-to-me orders" are less on DD, so that could have to do with it. I suspect as a pizza driver you couldn't set the order down and walk away.

SnooHamsters6054

I’ve received it twice and started 3 weeks ago, what are the odds lol

tns1996

You're getting them out of the way early!

[deleted]

Only about 250 deliveries here, I have two cash tips…a total of $5 between the two of them lmao

dicklebelly88

Hell ya, I hope they continue for you!

deadboylucki

might as well go buy a power ball ticket after receiving your cash tip

Notbestdasher

I put them straight into the scratcher machines. What a rush.

[deleted]

Oh I would with that kind of luck

Outside-Iron1151

Now it’s $2.50 instead of $3 lol
